6. Blood Alpha

The name of the alpha rang in my head like a loud church bell. Alpha Zion Kincaid of the Valis pack. Everyone knew that name even if they didn’t know who he was in person. Very little is known about the man and for someone like me, I knew less than the others.

Dad for reasons unknown to me till this day had put a ban on that name so we couldn’t freely talk about the alpha or anything that had to do with the pack but that didn’t mean that I didn’t hear enough about him from people who carried gossip but that also meant I knew practically next to nothing except baseless rumors.

He was known as the Blood Alpha because he enjoyed bathing in the blood of his enemies but I didn’t believe that a person could be so terrifying so I always laughed off the exaggerated adjectives that were used to describe him.

It was said that he became the Alpha of a small pack after a tragedy that took his father, the previous alpha and within the space of five years, he had grown that small pack into one of the largest and most powerful packs in the world. People gossiped that his pack was at par with the alpha king in terms of strength.

That man I saw last night was definitely him. Though he didn’t look as horrifying as the stories made him, he was definitely a man of blood. The way his bloodthirsty eyes had killed Dad a thousand times still gave me chills.

The question I had was why had this man come to wipe out my pack when we had never had anything to do with him? Dad never let us talk about him and I guessed it was because of the stories about him that made Dad keep our pack away from the Valis pack. Even when other packs sought their help, we never did so it was unnerving to know that he was the one responsible for all these.

I ran as many scenarios as I could through my head for why this man would do this but I came back empty handed. Something was not adding up. Someone was lying and it was these people who were keeping me locked up.

My father would never hide anything from me or do something that would have endangered the life of the entire pack. He was considerate. It was these monsters that were trying to spin the narratives and make themselves the victims so they won’t be tagged the murderers that they were.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t hear the door open so I jumped with shock when the door suddenly shut. I looked up to see a young girl around my age or younger standing by the door

She stood by the door, not moving an inch and staring at me as if I was the predator and not them. Her eyes ran down my entire length and she couldn;t hide the disgust in her face as she took in my bloodied dress and hair. I knew I was in a terrible state but I couldn’t care about it.

She finally decided to walk further into the room and it was then I noticed that she was carrying some clothes with her. She placed them gently on the bed making sure to jump back away from me as soon as she did that

“You should take a bath and change into these clean clothes.” She gestured to the clothes she placed on the bed and also turn to point at a door I hadn’t noticed earlier “That’s the bathroom” She turned to walk away when I reached and grab her hand

She shrieked in surprise and jumped back away from me. I raised my hands up to show her I wasn’t any threat and it was so funny because it should be the other way around.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you” I told her and she gave me a long stare before she finally relaxed a little but not completely.

“What do you want? I am not supposed to say anything to you” She whispered and her eyes kept glancing at the door in fear

“I just want to know why they are keeping me here. Do you know anything? I need to go home, please help me” I pleaded

“I I I don’t know anything” She stumbled over her words and her eyes kept looking everywhere but me. She was lying. I could smell the lies on her

“Please help me out here. I am sure your people don’t want me here. Help me escape please and I would be indebted to you with my life” i grabbed her hands but she pushed me away

“Are you mad?” She gasped in horror “You want me to get killed” She ran out of the room before I could explain myself better

My frustration grew by each passing minute and there was nothing to elevate it or soothe my worries. I looked at the clothes laying on the bed and decided it wouldn’t hurt to shower and change into some clean clothes.

I moved towards the door the girl had pointed at earlier and opened it to be greeted with an impressive bathroom. It was as clean as the room but it wasn’t the time to admire the home of my enemies. I entered the shower stall and used the products there to take a quick bath.

I threw the dress over my head and slipped on the underwear provided. I didn’t want to think of how they guessed my size. It would only cause more headache for me. I felt way better on the outside than on the inside now that I had washed away all the dirt and blood from my pack members. I felt light but not free.

I paused when I exited to find a tray of food on the bed. The smoke escaping the plate indicated that the food was hot and my stomach grumbled greedily at the sight of food. I didn’t even think I was that hungry until I saw the food.

I should have eaten the food knowing how weak I was but it would be betrayal to my people. I couldn’t eat or take anything of theirs. I had already done too much by taking the clothes they gave me but I couldn’t touch anything else.

With the anger pulsing through me, I grabbed the tray and threw it at the door. The tray and the plates smashed hard against the door and shattered along with the content making them spill all over the floor.

My stomach whined in protest so instead of standing and staring at what I had just done, I turned and sat on the floor in a corner of the room before I began to regret my decision like a whim.

As soon as I sat down, the door opened and the brunette from earlier entered the room with wide eyes. His eyes scanned the room in panic but they slowly relaxed when he saw me curled in the corner.

His eyes fell to the mess of the floor and then he was looking at me

“You don’t want to eat?” He gestured to the mess I made on the floor but I turned my face to the side

Someone else entered the room shortly and also inspected the mess on the floor

‘What’s wrong Jeremy? She doesn’t want to eat?” He asked the brunette I could now finally identify with a name

“Get someone to clean up this mess. I can’t deal with this shit this early” he groaned before stepping out of the room without any word

“You should eat if you don’t want to fall sick” The young man spoke after Jeremy left but I also ignored him the way I ignored Jeremy

“I can’t say I understand the way you feel but I’m sure your folks wouldn’t want you to starve to death.” He spoke softly before bending down to gather the broken pieces with his bare hands

“It’s unfortunate that you were born to a man like that and have to suffer such a cruel fate and now…” He freezed as if realizing he had said a little too much than he should have but I already cut

“You better keep my dad out of your mouth you monster” I screamed “How dare you say that? I should be the one pitying you for being born into such a disgusting pack” I scoffed and tears that threatened to fall gathered at my eyelids.

“You came to a peaceful pack and slaughtered innocent people and you dare to claim that we are the wicked ones” I was on my feet now and was approaching the man slowly. He realized he was in danger now because I was so livid and would definitely hurt him.

“Look I didn’t mean it that way, I…” he didn’t finish his sentence before I lunged. He may be stronger but I was angrier.

I didn’t even stand a chance but my claws ripped through his face and I relished in the groan that left his lips as his flesh followed my fingers before I was thrown across the room. I was on my feet fast but he was gone.

I stood there panting and staring out of the door but I was satisfied with the mark I knew I left. They should know I won’t be going down without a fight.

It’s been six days since I have been brought here and kept in this room with no answers of why the life I knew was snatched away from me suddenly. It’s been seven days since I last put a meal in my mouth which meant I was not capable of standing on my own for long. I’ve rejected every single food they brought to me and I was honestly surprised they kept the meals coming. They were always here to also clean up my mess day after day but I won’t be stupid to think they are nice people. I noticed that they never sent the same person twice and all of them had been ordered not to talk to me no matter the situation. They came, dropped the food and came back in ten minutes to clean up the mess after I would angrily throw out the food they would give me. I was starting to feel bad for the people who had to clean my mess like the young girl currently cleaning the soup I had spilled a few minutes earlier. There was irritation on her face as she cleaned but she would not look at me or voice

This time, when the plate of food was brought into my room, I didn’t throw it away but gulped down the food like a starving animal which I technically was. The girl who brought the food was startled by the way I had ripped the plate of food from her before she could place the tray down and started eating but she didn’t wait around. She flew out of the door as I settled on the floor ripping the grilled meat with my hands and teeth. “She is eating” I heard the girl gasp out to the guard at the door the moment she left the room “You’re joking,” Marcus told her. I could hear the disbelief in his voice and I didn’t blame him. I would too if I had been in his shoes. “Would I joke about something like that? I’m off. I need to tell Alpha Zain that she finally ate” The girl told Marus. She made a move to leave but he stopped her “Seems the Alpha’s visit was the nudge she needed to start eating. I was getting worried she was going to die at that rate. I’m glad he visited her” “The Alpha vis

My eyes fluttered open against my will so I glared at the annoying sunlight streaming inside the room from the opened windows, uninvited. I felt better than I did in days and I knew it was because I finally ate and slept on a good bed for once. I wanted to be grateful that I felt better but the guilt that I was so comfortable with kept lingering in my mind and I didn’t know how to move on from the death of the people I had known my whole life. I kept telling myself that I am doing all these to be strong enough to take my revenge but I don’t know if I even believe myself anymore. I had run out of tears and words to scream so I just sat on the bed staring outside, my glare softening as my mind travelled in thoughts. My nose picked up the smell from my pits and my nose scrunched up in disgust at the terrible smell. I had not taken a bath in two days. I reluctantly dragged myself from the bed to the bathroom. I had washed the clothes I was wearing when I came here and it was hanging

My hatred for the man could not overpower the bond that we shared. I figured it was because I was in so much pain, anger and hunger that I had not recognized him as my mate and only did when my head was in the right place Ever since he left the room, I can’t get him out of my head. There was a contrast in emotion between my head and my heart. My head couldn’t and didn’t want to accept the fact that Zion was our mate but my heart was fighting us on it. It had accepted that he was our mate and because of that, my thoughts always trailed back to how amazing he smelled and how good he looked. It was dangerous to me, these unwanted feelings I kept having. I despised that I was starting to desire such a man against my will. I was scared and worried out of my mind. I couldn’t risk rejecting him and dying because I was so stubborn. I was once again in my starving phase and it was not on purpose. I was so angry, I couldn’t find it in myself to eat. Everytime, I closed my eyes, I could see the life I had lost and it was a scary feeling knowing I would never get it back. The day was crawling and the time was so slow. I didn’t know what to do and I was tired of just sitting all day waiting for whatever horrible fate awaits me. I knew but I didn’t want to admit it. I would just keep my eyes closed and remained ignorant to the harsh reality that was knocking at my door incessantly. In the last two days, I had cleaned with a cloth I found, arranged the already organised room and even jumped around so that I wouldn’t lose my mind. “I’m tired of staying indoors Genny, how long are we going to be kept here?” Violet whined an

THREE YEARS LATER...I was taking a walk through the garden towards the back of the pack house because my feet hurt and I needed to visit Ethan. It was swollen and Elena advised that I took as many walks as I could to alleviate the pain.I was due to give birth any moment from now and was not supposed to wander too far from the pack house but Elaine was with me.“Mom, are you okay? Do you need to sit for a minute?” He asked worriedly as I wobbled for a minute.“No, I’m fine. I need to stop sitting down every time.” I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him closer to me.When we got to where Ethan was buried, Elaine wandered off with Indigo leaving me alone. There was a chair beside the grave from the last time I visited.“Hey, Ethan. I came to say goodbye. I’m going to have a baby soon and I’ve decided to let go of my past, including you. She saw him as a threat and she was not going to let him go.“Zion, tell her to get off him. She is going to hurt him” I ran to his side.“Geneva, please calm down and examine the situation. It’s been just a few hours since Zion left with Elaine, leaving just me and Indigo in the house but she had already grown on me. It didn’t help that she kept trailing behind me wherever I went and it was funny. If I got out of her sight for a minute, she would come barrelling through the house, sniffing everywhere to know where I was. I looked behind at my new shadow where she laid sprawled on the kitchen floor as I did the dishes. I had to take her to Elena this morning so I missed out on training with Isaac so I could get a few things done before I took her to the pack clinic. “Are you going to follow me into the bathroom when it’s time for me to take a bath? Zion would kill you before that happen” I said playfully with a chuckle. I arranged the dishes into the racks and headed to my room so I could take a shower. When I entered the bathroom, Indigo attempted to follow me but I stopped her before she could get into the bathroom.“No, No, No, where do you think you are going? Sit”

I blinked open and felt a heavy weight on my chest. I looked down and shrieked in surprise to see the panther, Indigo laying on me and purring softly. I scrambled to the end of the bed in shock but the panther didn’t move from the spot and gave me a bored look before resting on its paws.I looked around the room and saw Elaine sitting on the floor beside the bed and he was busy playing with her tail and giggling.“You are so silly, Mummy. Indigo won’t hurt you. She is a good girl” He said and purred the animal who purred in response and even licked Elaine’s hand and he burst into another fit of giggles.“Stop, indie, it tickles”I sat back down hesitantly and looked at the animal who seemed to be better. It seems whatever Elena gave it was successful in helping it recover quickly but that didn’t explain why it was on my bed, on me.“Zion” I called out “Where is your daddy, baby?”“He is making breakfast in the kitchen” Elaine said happily and I understood why. We were having dinner in the pack house’s kitchen and it was one of those rare days when Jamie, Isaac, Elena, Lily and even Zion was present. Things have been slow lately so everyone was less busy. The pack was peaceful and it gave us enough time to connect and do things together.“Where is Elaine?” Lily asked as she took a bite of the chicken Emily had grilled to perfection earlier.“He is playing with the other pups. I can’t get him to stay in one place even to eat” I complained and they all burst out laughing.“He takes after you. You are so difficult to handle” Elena comments and I throw the napkin beside me at her face. They’ve all come to accept Elaine as me and Zion’s pup naturally and sometimes they referred to him as though I gave birth to him, always claiming that he takes certain traits from me or Zion and it made me happy.Elaine has also settled in as being our pup too well.
