Chapter Forty-three

As the figure stepped forward, I felt my pulse quicken. I stood up, preparing to fight, but I knew it was hopeless. There was no way I could beat this man. He was too strong, too fast.

And then, he spoke. "I am the one who sent the rogues after you," he said, his voice cold and cruel. "And now, I've come to finish the job."

My heart sank, and I felt a wave of despair wash over me. "Why?" I asked, my voice breaking.

The figure tilted his head, and his eyes glinted in the dim light. "It is not my place to explain," he said. "I am simply following orders."

I felt my anger flare, and I clenched my fists. "You're a coward," I said, my voice filled with contempt. "You attack women and children, but you won't even explain yourself."

The figure's face darkened, and I saw his grip on the dagger tighten. "Do not test me," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "I am not one to be trifled with."
