**Victor POV**

If my son weren’t such a hot head, I’d almost be proud of the way he dominated that omega in the kitchen. Being an alpha is all about displays of your authority to keep from your inferiors challenging it. I imagine that once Andrew learns to harness that power into a more calculated, calm exterior he’ll be an unstoppable alpha. Just like me and my father before me.

“Son, you know chasing omega skirts is a favorite pastime of mine, but it’s time we get you focused on your future. So far your alpha training is going quite well. I could see you being ready to take over the pack by the time you’re 20 or 21.”

“But everyone else takes over their pack at 18. Why are you holding me back?” I could see my son’s impatient, angry blue eyes attempting to pierce into me, but he just barely missed the mark of intimidation. I stifled a laugh at the pathetic attempt and he began to look puzzled. My facial expression must’ve given away my amusement.

“You aren’t everyone else and you’ve wasted a great deal of time with the, er, lesser members of the pack. If you’d spend half as much effort on your studies as you have on chasing skirts you’d be ready by now.” Andrew ran a frustrated hand through his shaggy blonde hair. He truly hated being told what to do, especially by me. “Son, we have all the neighboring alphas coming to the pack this weekend to discuss a mutual treaty and I can’t have you embarrass me or derail our communications by making a spectacle of yourself the way that you did in the kitchen. Please at least promise me you’ll be on your best behavior the rest of this week. The alphas will start coming in as soon as Thursday. That gives you two days to practice behaving like a distinguished gentleman. Are we clear?”

“Yes, dad.” Andrew rolled his eyes and huffed, but he still could not deny my authority. If he couldn’t restrain himself within the next two days, I’d have to alpha command him to do so. This treaty absolutely had to go through. This pack was weaker than every other pack in the surrounding area, and if the traditional pack allies didn’t agree to a contract of peace I could foresee us being pretty easily wiped out. If it could happen to Mystic moon pack 12 years ago, it could happen to us.

**Jade POV**

The rest of breakfast went off without a hitch with me cutting the fruit, baking the next several batches of croissants, and brewing the coffee in the kitchen with Emma replenishing the empty dishes and offering refills in the dining room. I knew I couldn’t remain unseen for the rest of the day but I could at least stay out of sight for the next short while.

Emma and I cleaned up after breakfast around 10 and helped ourselves to what little scraps were leftover. It wasn’t enough to fill us, but we were used to the feeling of being hungry. We made sure to down another cup of coffee before we headed to the alpha floor to start the cleaning for the day. We weren’t allowed to use the same coffee maker or event he same type of coffee as the other pack members, Alpha Victor always said he refused to waste pack resources on freeloaders like us omegas. I always tried to pretend I really was drinking the good coffee, but the taste of our coffee couldn’t even compare to the SMELL of the other coffee.

“God, the ranked wolves here are disgusting.” Emma griped as she held up a dirty pair of underwear with her little finger. I couldn’t help but laugh at her sass. We may have been pretty well beaten down since childhood but Emma had never stopped fighting back, something I secretly envied about her.

“Good thing they have us to wipe their asses for them, I guess” i said in between sweeping up garbage in Andrew’s room. We changed the sheets together as one well oiled machine, and after a quick dusting of all the surfaces and one unpleasant hour in the bathroom, Andrew’s room was totally clean for him to mess up over the next few days. The rest of the alpha and beta suites didn’t take long since nobody was as nearly as gross as Andrew and before long we were able to enjoy some quiet time in the laundry room. This was my favorite time of day because hardly ever did any of the ranked members come in here, so the other omegas and I could relax a little and not have to look over our shoulders waiting for someone to attack us over nothing.

“Andrew was sure in a shitty mood for lunch. You have to turn him down again?” Abigail, an omega only a few years older than me asked.

“I don’t know why I’m suddenly so alluring to him, he didn’t give me a second look until a few months ago. I turn 18 tomorrow, I’m worried about what’ll happen once he knows I’ve gained my wolf and my scent changes.” I had to hold back an actual shudder thinking about how much worse his advances would get in just 24 short hours, that is, if the birth date on a necklace I had on when I was brought here was correct. I couldn’t even really double check it because alpha Victor confiscated it as my “room and board f*e”.

“Just make sure you’re showering more and maybe wear some newly discarded clothes with someone else’s scent on them. I heard the alpha is hoping to find Andrew a mate at this little shindig they’re throwing this weekend so hopefully you can keep him at bay with a little bit of distraction until then.” Emma offered. She was a few months older than me and had already gained her wolf, so I trusted her advice. The plan was to wait until tomorrow night to shift together and go for a run. Emma had been waiting on shifting until she could do it with me.

I looked around at the small group of us smiling and folding clothes and sheets together. Every time I thought about it for too long I had to resist the urge to go tearing into the alpha’s office and demand that he treat us hard working omegas with respect. We are the back bone of this pack and yet he and most of the ranked members treated us like complete and utter garbage.

“I couldn’t agree more with your assessment, were it not for the way you just lumped yourself in with the other omegas,” a voice inside my head said and I froze momentarily before continuing with my work so as not to alert anyone.

**Jade POV**I had just broken the link with Elliott when I saw Emma passing through my bedroom door looking sleepy and defeated.Juliet rose from the table where we were eating and came bouncing up to Emma. “Hi! I’m Elliott’s sister! What’s your name?” She asked cheerily, not feeling the vibe of the room at all.“Uh, hi. I’m Emma. It’s nice to meet you, I’m sorry if I seem upset I just—”“Oh, honey I know! Please, come join us. We’ve been waiting to talk to you. Call me Juliet!” She said, linking arms with a bewildered-looking Emma and steering her toward the seat next to me before taking hers across from her.Emma slumped into her chair, looking dejected and beyond hope. “Where should I start?”“Oh! The beginning if you don’t mind! These two didn’t want to share the details with me unless you said it’s okay and I don’t want to influence you either way but I’m something of an expert at creating my own problems so I may be able to help.” Juliet said seriously and Emma started to laugh

**Elliott POV**“Care to explain what just happened?” I turned to our guest, knowing exactly what the turn of events pointed to but a bit weary of letting this stranger chase after Emma. I needed to distract him until Jade had the opportunity to speak with her friend and make sure she was actually okay with speaking to this man and in the right frame of mind to do so.“That’s Emma; she’s my mate,” Logan said with an oddly unsurprised look which didn’t make sense since the last time he would’ve seen her, both of them would’ve been far too young to know they were mates. “I always suspected. I’ve been drawn to her since we were kids.” He answered the question I hadn’t asked out loud.I had to think back to what my mother had said about Jade and I, that we’d always seemed drawn to each other since the first time we visited after she was born. I tried to sift through my own personal memories to see if I could remember how certain I was that she was my mate and realized that I had always th

**Jade POV**“Emma?” I called gently, tapping lightly on her door. No answer. “Come on, Em. It’s just Cleo and I. We know what’s wrong and we just want to talk.” I tried to turn the doorknob but it was locked. I put my ear up against the door and heard light snoring. She was asleep. Cleo held a finger up, running down the hall to my office and returning with pen and paper. She scribbled a quick note before showing it to me.“Come to Jade’s room when you wake up. We just want to talk.” I nodded in approval of the note, and Cleo slid it under the door. “Now what?’ She asked.“Brunch?” I asked, knowing we’d only be a few minutes late and could have the benefit of some quality time getting to know Elliott’s sister without the group. Butterflies swarmed in my stomach at the thought of meeting her acquaintance without Emma or Elliott as security blankets, but I had the next best thing: my brand-new sister.Cleo smiled and linked arms with me and we headed for the elevator.I was fidgeting w

**Emma POV**I had to get out of there. I didn’t know what else to do besides bolt. Taking a moment to silently thank Elliott for giving me my own space just down the hall, I crashed through the door and locked it. What had just happened? My heart was racing; I didn’t know how to make it slow or calm down. I’d looked into a pair of striking green eyes and now everything was somehow different.“He’s our mate, you dumb bitch!” Leona, my wolf who had even less qualms about telling it like it was than I did, purred in my mind.“I don’t think he’s out mate, he’s too hot,” I confessed out loud. It was just her and I, why have a silent conversation? Especially when I was getting the sense that I’d need to vent my frustration through yelling.“We’re hot!” Leona retorted, offended I didn’t agree.“Not as hot as him, or as Jade or Cleo!” I yelled back. “He met them first, he’s probably so disappointed he didn’t get one of them! He’s going to reject us.”“I think you’re wrong. You didn’t even gi

**Jade POV**Jasper nodded slowly; his eyes still illuminated in an eerie way. “We hid you and ran to help Mom and dad. We thought we’d be able to get back to you. We thought wrong. Jasper didn’t know what to do, he was so afraid. I was still dormant, but I managed to find the strength to take over and carry him through.” He was looking stoically only at me as if we were the only two people in the world. I could sense Cleo’s eyes on me, could hear her sobs, but somehow, I couldn’t break this eye contact.“We were on our way up to the alpha floor when we saw Laurel. We grabbed her and told her exactly where to find you. She tried to make us leave with her, but we ran away before she could catch us. We had to help mom and dad. We couldn’t just leave them to die.” He sounded robotic, devoid of emotion, but I knew Axel had come forward to protect Jasper from having to speak through this new memory. While Axel seemed calm and in control, I could only conclude that Jasper was everything but

**Jade POV**“What do you mean? She was the beta’s daughter?” I asked Logan as more of a question than a statement, but I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt he was telling the truth. It was like it had all hit me at once.Chasing each other through the hallways of the packhouse, making flower crowns with our mothers in the forests, playing princesses, sleepovers, hide and go seek when Elliott and his family would visit, her having a silly crush on my older cousin when he moved to the—I looked to Elliott whose eyes looked almost the size of golf balls. What was he thinking? Was he remembering things too?“I think he’s telling the truth.” Elliott linked me and I nodded slowly, trying to refocus.“Well, let’s move past that part for now.” Elliott offered diplomatically. “We’ll circle back at the end of the story.”“Okay,” Logan sniffed, looking positively bereaved as if he were the one who’d done all of this and not his father. “Well, I looked for Emma and her parents, but all I saw was—wa
