Chapter 28 Luna Lisa

Louis, who was amused by my conclusion, chose to remain silent. Louis realized that by taking this route, we would not be able to arrive at our destination for more than two days as we strolled through the forest's northern flank, avoiding every area we could possibly invade. It was nearly daybreak when we spotted the cottage.

With optimistic eyes, I surveyed the area.

I wished my kids were still there. As I hurried to the spot, I discovered the door ripped off and darkness had descended upon the area, contrary to my hope that I would find them as soon as I passed through the door.

On top of that, when I yelled my boys' names, all that could be heard was the echo of my voice. There were just a few rooms in the tiny cottage, but when I walked into the fourth one, my heart stopped.

Hundreds of other smells filled the room, yet I could still smell my kids. A piece of cloth rested on the tattered old mattress. As I hurried over, I realized it was a piece of Lucas's cloth.
