As soon as I was out, the real me hit me so badly. What did I just do?!

But they real deserved it.

I looked around then noticed that the guards weren't around. I was happy for it. This time I didn't want to escape but I wanted the stupid ruthless bastard. Their Alpha.

I walked slowly due to hunger until my eyes landed on one of the workers.

"Where is Kade?", I asked and when her eyes fall on me, fear showed in her eyes. I was scaring with blood of the rotten meat all over my body.

She hesitated for a second but when she saw me open my mouth, she gave in i'mmediately. "He's in the meeting room."

My brows furrowed. Meeting room?"Where is that and what meeting?"

"The meeting with the council. It's downstairs, near the cellar." The servant replied, staring at me with wide eyes. The second the compulsion wore off, she walked away without a single thought of what happened.

I remained calm, used the energy I had in me and went downstairs, the underground level of the estate, one I had never been in before. If it weren't for the servant providing me with the information, I wouldn't have known there was a cellar, a meeting room and a council. When I reached down, I found the entire level eerily quiet and dead as if a soul hadn't passed by these walls in decades.

Upon walking further, a few whispers reached my ears and I perked my head at the direction of the voices. There was a large, giant door to my left where the voices left from-some voices I recognized and others I didn't. I placed myself against the door and eavesdropped on the meeting even when knowing how dangerous it was.

"You won't manage ruling this pack effectively without a luna", I heard one speak.

"There are some packs that are planning to fight us",

When I heard that, I froze for a moment. Fighting?! I wasn’t safe at all in this world.

After shaking my head, I returned my attention again to the chatters inside the meeting room.

"I can't rule a pack with a stupid weak rogue", That was Kade's frustrating deep voice.

"What if she isn't just weak, the moon goddess can't..... ", I failed to eavesdropp the next words.

What the hell just happened?! I'm a rogue.

"Let me......", My body immediately froze when the door out of the blue opened and Kade walked instantly followed by the elders.

Taking a quick deep breath, I stepped back with a pounding heart. My swallow echoed through the estate and when his eyes fall on me, I opened my mouth to apologize but was quickly silenced when he towered over me with a deep red spread across on his face and eyes.

"What the fuck were you doing here?", He questioned angrily.

I wanted to reply but my heart was at my throat. "I-I -I wanted to- tell you something." I stuttered, unable to form the words. It wasn't like I had been ever caught eavesdropping before. It was my first time and I had nothing to say.

He neared me i'mmediately and backed me to a wall. "And you decided to come down here? How long were you here, Reen? I won't ask this again." He groaned.

"Do you know how you fucking look?", He snarled.

"Ahh..... its not my fault", I shrugged my shoulders carelessly.

"Take her to my office",. "Let me first teach her lesson. She's in a dire need of a punishment and nothing more."

"Wh-what?", I blinked at him but guards were already dragging me.

As usual the guards’ grip on my arms was like iron, and this time I could feel my heart pounding in my chest as they dragged me toward Kade’s office. My defiance from earlier was quickly crumbling under the weight of reality. What was I thinking, confronting him like that?

When we reached the office, they shoved me inside, the heavy door slamming shut behind us. Kade was already there, standing behind his massive desk. His sharp eyes locked onto mine, and the tension in the room was suffocating.

He didn’t say anything at first, just stared at me with that same infuriating mix of anger and something else, something I couldn’t quite place. It was as if he was assessing me, deciding whether I was worth the trouble.

Finally, he spoke. “Do you enjoy testing me, Reen?”

His voice was cold, calculated, and it sent a shiver down my spine. I clenched my fists, refusing to let him see how much his presence unnerved me. “I don’t enjoy any of this, Kade. But I’m not going to sit quietly while you play God with my life.”

His jaw tightened, and he took a slow step toward me. “You have no idea what you’re talking about. Do you think this is a game? That you can just wander into places you don’t belong and challenge me without consequences?”

“I wasn’t challenging you!” I snapped, my voice rising despite myself. “I just wanted answers. You’ve locked me up, treated me like I’m nothing, and now you’re plotting God knows what with your council. I have a right to know what’s happening as your locked mate.”

Kade’s expression darkened, and before I could react, he closed the distance between us in two strides. His hand shot out, gripping my chin and forcing me to look up at him. His touch was firm but not painful, his fingers warm against my skin.

“You have no rights here,” he said, his voice dangerously low. “You’re here because I allowed it. Don’t mistake my tolerance for weakness.”

I glared up at him, my fear giving way to a surge of anger. “And don’t mistake my survival for submission. I’m still standing, Kade, and that’s more than you can say for most of your enemies.”

His grip on my chin tightened slightly, his eyes narrowing. For a moment, I thought he might snap, that he’d finally lose control and show me just how dangerous he could be. But then he released me, stepping back as if the mere sight of me was too much to bear.

“You’re insufferable,” he muttered, running a hand through his dark hair. “I should throw you in the cells and be done with this issue of you being my mate ”

“Then do it,” I challenged, my voice steady. “If you’re so determined to prove your power, then lock me up. But don’t expect me to grovel at your feet when you do.”

For a moment, there was only silence. Kade stared at me, his expression unreadable, and I could see the conflict in his eyes. He was furious, yes, but there was something else there, something he was trying and failing to suppress.

Finally, he sighed, shaking his head. “You’re more trouble than you’re worth.”

“And yet, here we are,” I shot back, crossing my arms.

His lips twitched, as if he were fighting a smirk, but he quickly schooled his features into a mask of cold authority. “Clean yourself up, Reen. The maids are going to bring you food and everything you need",

With that, he turned and walked out of the office, leaving me alone with my thoughts and the lingering tension in the air.

What the hell was that?!

Did he just talk sweetly to me for the first time.

I wondered as I walked back to my room.
