(Landon’s POV)
I chased after my dad who was teaching me how to use my senses as a werewolf. I had just lycanthrope and I was eager to learn everything that there was to learn about what I was.
“You should always learn to be light on your feet.” My father said, “you’re a hunter and can never let your prey know where you are.”
He went low hiding in the grass when we heard someone running towards us, his ears perked. It was one of the packs betas.
“You need to come back to the town now!” He demanded, and you could hear the urgency in his voice.
“What is wrong?” My father asked.
“The Shadow Pack found out location and launched an attack. Our pack wasn’t prepared and they are killing almost the whole pack.” He said in a panic.
“Landon, I need to go back and I want you to stay away from the war, okay?” He asked.
“But father, I want to help. What better way to prove how powerful I am that defending our pack?!” I insisted.
“Landon, I don’t have time to argue with you and I need you to go hide. Don’t come out until I or someone from our pack comes to get you.” He stated as he asked me to follow him.
He hid me in this small underground bunker that he had made for such an occasion.
“Don’t disobey me and stay hidden, okay?!” He barked.
I nodded as I sat on the corner and was quiet, listening to the screams and shouts outside the bunker.
A loud bang on the latch made me become alert.
“Where is that no good son of yours?!” I heard someone yell.
Silence.
I heard someone get punched and a groan.
“I asked you a question!” The person barked. “You took my sister away from me and I want you to experience the same pain, I felt.”
I heard my father chuckle, “I am not going to let you hurt my son.” He said as the man punched him again and he fell back on the latch.
Something started to drip down where I was. I could smell it and it was blood. My father’s blood.
“Irving just tell him where Landon is and he’ll spare your life.” I heard a familiar voice say but I couldn’t quit put together who it was.
“Paul, you betrayed your own pack, what makes you think they would want a back stabber in their pack, huh?” My father started laughing. “You didn’t think if that, did you?” He asked.
I was looking up at my father, I wanted to get out there and fight alongside him. I wanted to be there for him. But I heard his voice in my head, don’t come out Landon. I’ll be fine.
“There is no point of you not telling me. He’s going to be an omega with no pack to go to. If you let me know where he is, you could be together. You’ll both be dead but you’ll be together.” He stated then paused as he leaned closer to his face, “I’ll ask you one more time, where is he?”
My father spat on his face as he laughed hysterically.
I don’t know what happened next but I felt a warm liquid dripping on to my face. A lot of it.
“Why did you do that?!” Paul screamed. “We don’t know where Landon is yet.”
“He’s a child that just lycanthrope, if he isn’t dead already he is going to be.” The man stated, “as for you.” A short pause then a thud.
I heard them walk away but I didn’t dare to move. I wanted to do what I promised my father that I would, and I was sure that he was right outside and he was going to come and get me. But for now, I needed to stay here and I was very much aware of all the sounds around me.
I had been waiting for a few hours at least when I heard someone calling out my name. I didn’t know who to trust so I was ready to pounce if I sensed any aggression. But when the latch door opened it was Conner, my father right hand man, and the one who came looking for us.
“Are you okay?” He asked when he saw me.
I touched my face and looked at my fingers, it was blood that was pouring down on me.
I stepped out of the bunker and the first thing I saw was my father’s head. His blood was what was dripping on my face.
I slowly bent as I picked up the head and looked right at it. I was angry and I wanted to make whoever did this pay.
“I know you want to avenge your father’s death but we can’t afford to stay here. We need to leave now, before they come back looking for you.” Conner said as he dragged me away from the body, as I dropped the head onto the group.
“Paul betrayed us.” I muttered.
“Our pack is a third of what it used to be. We need to rebuild before we can plan our revenge.” Conner reasoned.
“We need to hide in plain sight. Gather everyone that is left and we need to move immediately.” I stated.
Conner looked at me, surprised at how I was trying to take control of the situation. But he gathered everyone and we started out search for a new home, that was how we ended up finding the small town of Lore.
We stayed there for a while and as young as I was I went around looking at the town, studying weak spots in the area and possible points of entry for our rivals. But I needed to make sure that the rest of the pack was safe, so I needed to lay down rules. They had a town meeting the next day and I wanted to make sure everyone knew what to expect from me.
My pack and I walked into the meeting where the whole town was gathered.
I stood in front of everyone and they looked down on me. I wouldn’t blame them; I was a young teenage boy demanding their attention.
“My name is Landon Larkin, and I’m the leader of our werewolf pack, Dark Night. I’m here to warn you that no one is going to be leaving this town from now on, if you want to leave the town, you have until the end of the day to do so. If by tomorrow morning you are still here I will take that as a sign that you have chosen to stay here.” I paused as I looked at everyone murmuring among themselves, “after tomorrow morning, anyone who tries to leave will be killed.”
“I don’t think this is the right way for you to handle this.” Conner whispered in my ear.
“My father tried to be a fair leader and it only got him killed. Fear, people understand.” I replied as I turned to face the crowd.
“Any one has a problem with that?” I asked.
“You old boy should probably step down from there before you get hurt.” A man in a brown cowboy hat stood up and stated in a Southern accent.
I chuckled, “thank you for saying that. I needed someone to use as an example.” I strolled next to the man as I grabbed him by the neck and I was back standing in front of everyone before they could even blink with the man on his knees in front of me.
My iris turned red and I could hear the crowd gasp, and the man in front of me didn’t seem so mouthy now. “Respect is earned old man, not given.” I stated as I threw him over everyone up to the other end of the room. “Anyone else has something to say?” I asked and the whole room was quiet, I could barely hear them breath. Fear, it always works.
I walked out of the room, making sure everyone knew that had until the end of the day to leave town if they wanted to.
Some members of my pack didn’t like how I handle that but I made sure to lay down rules for the humans, they respect those and I wasn’t planning on killing anyone who obeyed the rules. I wanted us to live in harmony, but as human beings can be, some people did try to leave and I made sure to make them know that I wasn’t playing around with the rules I had laid. They were killed and displayed and after a few months, people stopped trying to leave, until that night.
I didn’t expect to have to kill them but it was too late by the time I realized what I had done. And more so, who saw what I had done.
I saw and heard the little girl whimpering in the tree and she reminded me of myself, the way I saw my father get killed and I decided to spare her a life, a choice that she didn’t know I had made but here she was trying to kill me. I didn’t blame her; I had been trying to find the people that killed my parents too but I was yet to find them.
I looked down at her limp body in my hands, she was determined and I both loved and respected that about her. But I couldn’t risk having her going around town telling everyone how she tried to kill me and failed. But there was something about her that drew me to her, it drew me to like her.
I carried her and took her to a cabin in a remote area close to where my pack had set up their new home.
I laid her on the bed, as I blushed her raven black hair. I would like to have a talk with her but I should probably let her get over the shock. I walked out as I closed and locked the door behind me.
(Celina’s POV)I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window. I looked around surprised, I was expecting him to have killed me and displayed me in the town centre but here I was alive and well.I quickly got to my feet, my shoes were still on and I ran to the door but it was locked. I sighed, what was I thinking? Of course he wasn’t just going to let me walk out of here when I tried to kill him. He is probably just keeping me captive here giving himself time to think of ways to kill me.I looked around the cabin, it was a nice cabin with a fireplace, furniture, a fully furnished kitchen, under different circumstances I wouldn’t have minded spending some alone time here but at the moment my mind was reeling.I heard the door unlock, I could feel my heart beating faster, as I tried to come to terms with the fact that I was going to die. But Landon walked in with groceries in hand, so calm and nonchalant. I almost thought that I had dreamed about what happened the night befo
(Celina’s POV)It had been weeks and the man who claimed to be my brother hadn’t shown up again. I was starting to question my sanity and or whether living alone in the woods was the right idea.“My parents are worried about you, despite me assuring them that you are a big girl and you can take care of yourself.” Andrew commented as I took the dishes to the old, mouldy kitchen at the back of the small diner.I chuckled, “what exactly are they worried about?” I inquired.“You went missing for a few days and then came back and gathered your things and said you were moving out. They were bound to have a lot of questions and you didn’t give them any answers.” Andrew replied.I sighed, “I just thought it was time I moved out of your parents’ house.” I stated as I set the dishes down, “they took me in while I was just a little girl. I don’t want to take advantage of their generosity.”Andrew laughed.“Are you kidding me?” He asked, “if it were up to them, they’d have us get married and live
(Landon’s POV)I had been doing a lot of things around our small village in an attempt to stop me from thinking about Celina. I found it impressive that despite all the risks of coming face to face with a werewolf, she didn’t hesitate when she ‘attempted’ to kill me.A smile crept up to my face just thinking about her.“You seem to be doing a lot around here.” Connor, my father’s right hand man, commented as he walked up to me, “and while smiling. That’s unusual.”“For you maybe.” I replied, “never seen you smile.”“What do you mean? I’m smiling right now.” He stated.I looked up only to see him with his usual frown on his face. I chuckled as I shook my head.“Let me guess, you met a girl?” He asked.I paused as I looked at him.“I’d rather not talk about it.” I stated as I continued with my work. I knew that the pack wouldn’t take it kindly to the alpha being in love with a human. If that’s what I feel for Celina. He put his hand on my shoulder, “I know that I’m not your father and n
(Brody’s POV)I slowly and quietly made my way to the girl who was seated in the middle of the forest with her back towards me as she read a book.A smile crept to my face as I watched how she turned a page with her face serious as she concentrated on what she was reading. She was my mate. It wasn’t easy to get her to be my mate though.“Don’t think about it. I can smell your scent from a mile away.” She spoke up.“You don’t know who I am.” I said trying to disguise my voice, making it sound deeper than it usually is.She chuckled, “you do a terrible fake voice Brody.”I hugged her from behind, smelling the unique scent of her hair that made me relax.“Do you know how much I love you?” I asked in a whisper close to her ear.She closed the book as she brought her hand to touch my face, her eyes closing. “I have known you loved me from the moment I saw you.” She replied.“I would have thought it would have been the moment I won that duel for you.” I joked as I kissed her.“You mean when
(Landon’s POV)I sighed as I stepped into my house, taking off my jacket with a smile on my face as I thought about the time I had spent with Celina. Before I could turn on the lights, someone else did starling me.“You should really pay attention to your surroundings.” Connor said as I felt my heart almost leave my chest.I sighed as I tilted my head to look at the roof.“I didn’t think anyone would be breaking into my house.” I replied defensively.Connor smirked as he shook his head, “you should always think and expect anything. You’re the leader of the pack, thinking and expecting should be all you do.”“Fine.” I agreed just to try and get him to leave my house.“Where have you been?” He asked as he slowly got up from the chair.“Trying to get a hold of my teen years that were taken from me because I had to rise to the occasion and become the leader of the pack at a young age.” I explained sounding slightly sarcastic. He walked up to me, putting his hand around my neck, “I underst
(Celina’s POV)I hadn’t seen Landon and Brody for days but I didn’t have to walk home alone since Austin and Paige always came to pick me. We wouldn’t always go home immediately, we would take detours where we could go and explore the forest. Paige would collect herbs while Austin made fun of her.I felt out of place since Austin was a werewolf and Paige a witch, but I was just a regular human. But they always made me feel included.I would feel the rough tree barks, the low hanging branches would snuggle on my hair, as the leaves gently scratched my face, the wind would whistle carrying the humming of the insects with it. I enjoyed our detours.“Do you guys want to see something cool?” Paige asked bringing me out of my thoughts.“I would love to see something cool.” I replied eagerly.Austin crossed his arms, his eyes turning a bright grey colour, “I am something cool,” he stated cockily, but with a shrug he added, “but you can show us your thing.”I chuckled at his childishness, it
(Celina’s POV)I sighed as I took a seat, grateful that the day was over. Today felt longer, and I felt more exhausted than usual.“Celina,” Andrew called out my name as he approached me, and before he could even take a seat, Austin and Paige walked in, arguing about something.“Okay, okay, then let’s ask Celina, and we can solve this once and for all.” Paige spoke over Austin, but they stopped when they reached the table where Andrew and I were seated.“What’s wrong?” Austin asked.Andrew shrugged.I was fighting the urge to cry.“He doesn’t care about me.” I blurted out, my voice breaking but still holding back my tears.Paige took a seat beside me as she pulled me in for a hug, but I backed away as I chuckled, trying to make it seem like I wasn’t bothered.“Landon came here?” She asked.“He did,” I replied, “but he didn’t even acknowledge me.” I snickered.Andrew looked at us, perplexed. He didn’t understand what was going on.“Landon is the alpha of the werewolf that took over our
(Landon's POV)I tried to steer Connor away from the diner where Celina worked, but I wasn't successful.I hadn't been there to see her, and it took everything in me not to go and see her, but when word got to the council of elders that I was able to locate the werewolf who killed my father, everything just had a mind of its own from there on.Suddenly I had to do this or that, and when Connor asked to speak to me, I knew it wasn't anything good.We walked into the diner, and I saw Celina’s face lighten up. I realized she missed me as much as I missed her, but I couldn't tell Connor that the person I loved was a human. As she approached, smelling her scent, I realized how much I had missed.“Hi, I'm...” She started, but I cut her short.“We'll have two coffees.” I said that without looking at her.I didn't need to look at her to know just how betrayed she felt. I could just feel it. But she didn't speak; she walked away to get us our order.“So what was so important that you couldn't
[Two and a Half Years Later.]As you approach the manor, a striking fusion of modern elegance and timeless charm unfolds before your eyes. The exterior, draped in various shades of soothing grey, exudes an air of both welcoming warmth and upper-class sophistication.Lucas and Celina wanted to build a home but they never thought it would turn out this beautiful. It had taken time for them to get to this point and they had. Together.Paul’s father, Alan, had been sceptical about pouring money into Lucas’ project. If Lucas’ father didn’t want to do this why did he have to?But he’s leap in faith had worked, and together with Lucas and Celina, they had bought other manors that they had made to be a safe haven for werewolves.Hiding in plain sight.Celina wiped the sweat off her forehead, she had been working on her garden for most of the morning. Not like they wanted for anything but Celina w
(Four Months Later)(Third Person’s POV)Jane couldn’t help but smile when she felt the warm, familiar kiss on her cheek. She had never been one to believe in love, but with Landon, she had no control over her heart. He had a way of making her feel safe and loved, and she couldn’t imagine her life without him.“Good morning, sunshine,” Landon whispered in her ear, his voice still husky from sleep.Jane couldn’t help but feel a flutter in her stomach every time he called her that. “Why are you up so early?” she asked, still feeling groggy from the early hour but a smile still plastered on her face.“I could ask you the same thing. Why are you asleep at this time of the morning?” Landon replied, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He reached for her hand and kissed it gently, his touch sending shivers down her spine. “You used to be the early riser, remem
(Celina’s POV)I felt like sleeping beauty when I woke up.I could barely remember half of what happened but I didn’t catch a small bit about Belinda not being the motherly person I thought she was.Lucas was beside me when my eyes flattered open.He smiled when I looked at him, “welcome back to the land of the living.”“You make it sound as though I was dead.”He chuckled, “you have no idea the rucks that ensued once you turned into…” he stopped, looked at me and shook his head, “I am just happy to have you back.”I tried to get up and Lucas was on his feet ready to help me.“Are you trying to protect me from something?”Lucas looked at me confused.“I heard the entire thing with Belinda. Maybe Paige should have let her get her revenge.” I stated, “remember how I felt when we found about the old man P
(Third-person POV)Belinda had vanished, taking advantage of the fact that everyone was concerned with Celina to slip away. But the rest of the group was confused. They turned to Paige; they needed answers to the bomb she had just dropped in front of everyone.“How did you know about Belinda?” Adolphus was the first to ask.Everyone would have expected he would have been the first to know and inform everyone, but he didn’t.It did leave a bad taste in Brody’s mouth.Brody had decided to come here to spend time with Celina, his sister, and maybe use this time as vacation, as he hardly ever left his small village.“The better question should be how you didn’t know.” Lucas definitely wasn’t pleased with this new information. They had made a plan with both of them. Celina had been suspicious and didn’t trust either Adolph
(Belinda’s POV)This was the night. The night when every meticulous plan of mine was supposed to come to fruition.I had been working towards this moment for what felt like an eternity, lurking in the shadows, orchestrating everything to perfection. It wasn’t an easy feat, especially with the unexpected visits from guests at the manor. But their presence only added fuel to my carefully laid-out schemes.I thought I had accounted for every possible obstacle and every potential threat. But then there was Celina. A sharp, observant woman who almost unravelled all my efforts with her sudden departure when she found out she was a werewolf. But then there was Adolphus.Ah, Adolphus. His loyalty and cunning mind were just what I needed to salvage the situation. However, the night took an unforeseen turn. A turn I never could have predicted. My past, with all its dark secrets, came knocking at my doo
(Jane’s POV)I didn’t have to do much to get Landon’s attention away from me. Even I froze when my eyes locked on where Landon was facing. There was a werewolf that seemed to have sensed our arrival and was looking right at us, but Landon didn’t even seem to notice, with his eyes transfixed at… my gaze following his. What the hell was going on here? I wondered as I looked at the werewolf, strung up like a sacrifice.Landon almost instinctively lunged towards the werewolf, who now had its back turned to us. Celina, I guessed, as I watched him confront the other werewolves, who were now attentive and standing guard.I looked at the door and headed for it. If my research was right, Theresa, the witch, would be able to reverse the curse. It had been someone in her bloodline—her mother was my guess—so she should do just fine.At least that is what I hoped. The door was open. It ma
(Third Person’s POV)[The Night of the Full Moon]As some of the werewolves were eager and celebrating as the sun went down, there were a few people who knew what this full moon meant to them.Unfortunately, Doris hadn’t been able to provide some sort of revelation about Celina’s condition or even dispute her daughter’s words. She seemed clueless as to what was even happening. It was also unfortunate for Brody when the third lady stopped by.“I couldn’t be able to make it here in person, so I am using her as a shell.” This mysterious, unknown lady said as she walked right in, making herself feel at home.Brody and Lucas shared a look of confusion.“I’m sorry, who did you say you were again?” Brody interrupted the relaxed lady. She sighed as she shook her head in annoyance. “I would have assumed that
(Third Person’s POV)[Day of the Full Moon.]While Brody was running around trying to make calls back home and track down a witch that was either going to help her sister, Celina, live or solidify her fate of uncertainty. Landon and Jane had already begun their day. Each had a plan in mind.Landon held the door open with his foot as he also struggled to carry the grocery bags. Jane chuckled. “What a gentleman.” Her tone was playful: “You have your hands full. I am sure I could have opened the door.”Landon stepped out, the bags now steady in his arms, and was able to look at Jane, “We are both outside, aren’t we?”Landon felt this need for responsibility over Jane. The old woman had taken him in after all, and now he was going to return the favour by protecting her.Jane’s sweet old voice started to chuckle. “Can you also open the car door wi
(Brody’s POV)[Eve of the Full Moon.]We were unable to hide the truth from everyone, as most of the night Celina had been howling. It made most people unable to sleep; they actually came out to find the source of the howling on the night before the full moon.“You have to put her to sleep so the rest of our guests can sleep too.” Belinda suggested. There was something going on in this house, but I had yet to piece everything together.“I don’t want to have my guest too exhausted for tomorrow night.” Adolphus, who I had learned was Lucas’ father, chimed in, “The point of coming to stay here is so they can rest up for the full moon while they network.” He mumbled the last part. I guess he forgot that most of us were werewolves. No one wanted to volunteer, so I guess I was the one to do this.I stepped forward, “How do we go about sedating her?
