(Celina’s POV)
I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window. I looked around surprised, I was expecting him to have killed me and displayed me in the town centre but here I was alive and well.
I quickly got to my feet, my shoes were still on and I ran to the door but it was locked. I sighed, what was I thinking? Of course he wasn’t just going to let me walk out of here when I tried to kill him. He is probably just keeping me captive here giving himself time to think of ways to kill me.
I looked around the cabin, it was a nice cabin with a fireplace, furniture, a fully furnished kitchen, under different circumstances I wouldn’t have minded spending some alone time here but at the moment my mind was reeling.
I heard the door unlock, I could feel my heart beating faster, as I tried to come to terms with the fact that I was going to die. But Landon walked in with groceries in hand, so calm and nonchalant. I almost thought that I had dreamed about what happened the night before and I was still dreaming.
“I thought you might want something to eat.” He said as he handed me the groceries.
I looked at him confused.
“You didn’t try to kill me.” I said in a monotone manner.
“No, I didn’t.” He said coldly as he turned to walk out.
“Why?” I asked as I took a few steps towards him.
He turned his head slightly, looking at me through his peripheral vison, “if I wanted to kill you, I would have killed you the same day, I killed your parents.” He said coldly as he walked out the door, before he shut it he said, “you mentioned something about wanting to be a werewolf yester night, I have a book there that you might want to read and it might change your mind about everything.” He locked the door and I heard his walk away.
I sighed as I put down the groceries. I was glad to have my life spared but I also didn’t like being held captive. I sighed as I decided to make myself something to eat with the groceries he had brought me.
I made myself some food, I took a shower and got dressed in some clothes I found in the closet as I settled down to read the book he had given me, since I had nothing better to do with my day.
He came to visit me later in the evening. He looked at me from head to toe.
“I’m sorry. I should have probably asked before I wore your clothes but I had nothing to wear.” I stated as his stare made me feel the need to explain myself.
He cleared his voice, “no problem. I didn’t think I would ever bring anyone here.”
“I have just finished reading the book you gave me and I have to say, that stranger was right.” I stated.
He looked at me confused.
I chuckled, “I was reading this book about werewolves at my work place at the diner and this guy told me how wrong it was and I didn’t believe him.”
“What did you think you know about us?” He asked as he took a seat and I sat opposite him.
“In my defence I was trying to learn what I could do to get my revenge against you for killing my parents but I didn’t know about when werewolves first morph and how excruciatingly painful it is, if the description on the books were accurate.” I replied.
“It’s human bones reshaping to be a wolf-like creature. It’s not going to be a walk in the park.” He stated.
“And just how different werewolves have different eye and fur colours. And you are an alpha, the leader.” I said excitedly.
“Yeah I am.” He said and then looked at me, “what made you say you want to become a werewolf?” He asked.
I sighed as I stood up and looked outside the bared window, “that night as I watched my parents get killed I couldn’t help but feel helpless and weak. I thought that maybe if I was like you guys then maybe I could have intervened in some way.”
His voice spoke right behind me, “why were you running away anyway? The town is safe and werewolves protect the people in the town as one of their own.”
I chuckled as I felt a tear run down my cheek, “I don’t know. Parents don’t necessarily tell their children about the things they do.” I said as I turned around to face him.
He looked at my eyes, the tear running down it. He slowly brought his hand to my face and I unintentionally flinched, but he just wiped my tear away, so gentle surprising me. I didn’t know he could be that gentle, but he quickly took away his hand and took a few steps back.
“I didn’t mean to hurt your parents but I had a rule to follow.” He said.
“I know, which makes it hurt even more.” I muttered under my breath knowing that he would hear me either way.
“I have to go.” He said as he rushed to the door and I followed him.
“What is your name?” I asked as he opened the door.
“Landon.” He said as he walked out and closed the door.
“I’m Celina.” I said through the door hoping that he heard me.
I woke up the next morning, eagerly made breakfast as I tried to look around the house for anything to keep me entertained. I found a box with old books and a pad that had a few drawings in it.
I used to love drawing as a child but I hadn’t drawn for a while as I spent most of my time thinking about revenge, but maybe it was time for me to see if I could still draw.
I calmly on a stool that gave me a great view of the nature outside as I started drawing. I drew the trees, the birds that were chirping around, the blades of grass that were glistened in the dew. It was hard to highlight everything as I was drawing with coal.
I picked up one of the books, it wasn’t about werewolves but I read it anyway to help me pass the time.
I was concentrating on the book in front of me when on my peripheral vision I saw something move outside my window. I brushed it off but then there was a knock on the door.
I walked up to the door and there was a man standing outside there.
“Who are you?” I asked as I peeked outside.
“I can’t believe you’re alive.” He replied and I didn’t know what he was talking about.
“I can’t open the door; it’s locked from the outside.” I stated, hoping that would make him go away. But he opened the door, apparently it wasn’t under lock and key.
He walked in and his eyes went wide when he saw me, then he smiled as he stepped forward to hug me.
Startled by his sudden embrace I stood there, like a plank.
He stepped back as he laughed at the confusion I was sure was written all over my face, “you obviously don’t remember me. I’m Brody Conley, I’m your brother.”
I chuckled, “I don’t have a brother, I’m an only child.” I replied.
He sighed, “there is a lot you don’t know and I don’t think I have time to explain everything right now. But I’ll come back to see you again and explain everything.”
He hugged me again. “I can’t believe I have found you.” He whispered.
He turned around to leave as he looked at me one last time, “you look just like mom.” He remarked as he walked out and closed the door behind him, just as Landon did.
I was confused as to what had just happened. Who was that man? Why did he claim to be my brother? And most importantly, how was he able to find me here of all places? Did he know Landon?
My mind was reeling with a million questions and I wondered if I should ask Landon about it. But I thought that maybe I had imagined the whole thing, and it might hurt my request for him to turn me into a werewolf if he thinks just spending a day by myself was making me hallucinate.
“Celina you need to come down.” I said to myself, “if he was real, then he will come back like he said he would, then you could prove that you aren’t crazy.” I assured myself.
I took a seat as I stared out the window I saw the man, “maybe you shouldn’t me speaking to yourself if you are trying to prove that you aren’t crazy.” I added, as I grabbed the book to continue reading.
I could barely concentrate so I decided to take a nap.
I was woken up by the sound of the door creaking open. I ignored it, thinking it was the man from earlier and I was still dreaming. I sat up when I saw from my half shut eyes that it was Landon.
His eyes saw my drawing, he picked it up, “did you draw this?” He asked.
I shook my head to kind of gather my thoughts, “yes, I’m sorry for going through your things but I didn’t know what else to do with my day.”
He looked at it then his eyes went to the window.
“Wow, you are really good. The attention to detail is remarkable.” He commented making me blush slightly.
“It’s nothing. I haven’t drawn since I was a little child.” I replied.
He put down the pad.
“I think I shouldn’t keep you here considering you have nothing to do. You are free to leave.” He said as he stepped aside.
“What if I don’t want to leave?” I asked, not knowing whether the reason I wanted to stay was because of him or I was subconsciously hoping to see the man from earlier again.
“Why would you want to stay?” He replied with a question of his own.
I sighed as I tried to come up with a reasonable answer, “because after all this years, the time I have spent here made me relax. I wasn’t thinking about my parents, I wasn’t thinking about revenge, I was just relaxed.” I replied truthfully.
His stare that was soft turned cold.
“I kept you here to try and think of what to do to you but I think that was a bad idea and you shouldn’t be here at the end of the day.” He said his cold stare directed at me.
I shrugged, “I’m leaving to gather my things so I can stay here, I like the location of the cabin.” I stated as I walked right past him.
(Celina’s POV)It had been weeks and the man who claimed to be my brother hadn’t shown up again. I was starting to question my sanity and or whether living alone in the woods was the right idea.“My parents are worried about you, despite me assuring them that you are a big girl and you can take care of yourself.” Andrew commented as I took the dishes to the old, mouldy kitchen at the back of the small diner.I chuckled, “what exactly are they worried about?” I inquired.“You went missing for a few days and then came back and gathered your things and said you were moving out. They were bound to have a lot of questions and you didn’t give them any answers.” Andrew replied.I sighed, “I just thought it was time I moved out of your parents’ house.” I stated as I set the dishes down, “they took me in while I was just a little girl. I don’t want to take advantage of their generosity.”Andrew laughed.“Are you kidding me?” He asked, “if it were up to them, they’d have us get married and live
(Landon’s POV)I had been doing a lot of things around our small village in an attempt to stop me from thinking about Celina. I found it impressive that despite all the risks of coming face to face with a werewolf, she didn’t hesitate when she ‘attempted’ to kill me.A smile crept up to my face just thinking about her.“You seem to be doing a lot around here.” Connor, my father’s right hand man, commented as he walked up to me, “and while smiling. That’s unusual.”“For you maybe.” I replied, “never seen you smile.”“What do you mean? I’m smiling right now.” He stated.I looked up only to see him with his usual frown on his face. I chuckled as I shook my head.“Let me guess, you met a girl?” He asked.I paused as I looked at him.“I’d rather not talk about it.” I stated as I continued with my work. I knew that the pack wouldn’t take it kindly to the alpha being in love with a human. If that’s what I feel for Celina. He put his hand on my shoulder, “I know that I’m not your father and n
(Brody’s POV)I slowly and quietly made my way to the girl who was seated in the middle of the forest with her back towards me as she read a book.A smile crept to my face as I watched how she turned a page with her face serious as she concentrated on what she was reading. She was my mate. It wasn’t easy to get her to be my mate though.“Don’t think about it. I can smell your scent from a mile away.” She spoke up.“You don’t know who I am.” I said trying to disguise my voice, making it sound deeper than it usually is.She chuckled, “you do a terrible fake voice Brody.”I hugged her from behind, smelling the unique scent of her hair that made me relax.“Do you know how much I love you?” I asked in a whisper close to her ear.She closed the book as she brought her hand to touch my face, her eyes closing. “I have known you loved me from the moment I saw you.” She replied.“I would have thought it would have been the moment I won that duel for you.” I joked as I kissed her.“You mean when
(Landon’s POV)I sighed as I stepped into my house, taking off my jacket with a smile on my face as I thought about the time I had spent with Celina. Before I could turn on the lights, someone else did starling me.“You should really pay attention to your surroundings.” Connor said as I felt my heart almost leave my chest.I sighed as I tilted my head to look at the roof.“I didn’t think anyone would be breaking into my house.” I replied defensively.Connor smirked as he shook his head, “you should always think and expect anything. You’re the leader of the pack, thinking and expecting should be all you do.”“Fine.” I agreed just to try and get him to leave my house.“Where have you been?” He asked as he slowly got up from the chair.“Trying to get a hold of my teen years that were taken from me because I had to rise to the occasion and become the leader of the pack at a young age.” I explained sounding slightly sarcastic. He walked up to me, putting his hand around my neck, “I underst
(Celina’s POV)I hadn’t seen Landon and Brody for days but I didn’t have to walk home alone since Austin and Paige always came to pick me. We wouldn’t always go home immediately, we would take detours where we could go and explore the forest. Paige would collect herbs while Austin made fun of her.I felt out of place since Austin was a werewolf and Paige a witch, but I was just a regular human. But they always made me feel included.I would feel the rough tree barks, the low hanging branches would snuggle on my hair, as the leaves gently scratched my face, the wind would whistle carrying the humming of the insects with it. I enjoyed our detours.“Do you guys want to see something cool?” Paige asked bringing me out of my thoughts.“I would love to see something cool.” I replied eagerly.Austin crossed his arms, his eyes turning a bright grey colour, “I am something cool,” he stated cockily, but with a shrug he added, “but you can show us your thing.”I chuckled at his childishness, it
(Celina’s POV)I sighed as I took a seat, grateful that the day was over. Today felt longer, and I felt more exhausted than usual.“Celina,” Andrew called out my name as he approached me, and before he could even take a seat, Austin and Paige walked in, arguing about something.“Okay, okay, then let’s ask Celina, and we can solve this once and for all.” Paige spoke over Austin, but they stopped when they reached the table where Andrew and I were seated.“What’s wrong?” Austin asked.Andrew shrugged.I was fighting the urge to cry.“He doesn’t care about me.” I blurted out, my voice breaking but still holding back my tears.Paige took a seat beside me as she pulled me in for a hug, but I backed away as I chuckled, trying to make it seem like I wasn’t bothered.“Landon came here?” She asked.“He did,” I replied, “but he didn’t even acknowledge me.” I snickered.Andrew looked at us, perplexed. He didn’t understand what was going on.“Landon is the alpha of the werewolf that took over our
(Landon's POV)I tried to steer Connor away from the diner where Celina worked, but I wasn't successful.I hadn't been there to see her, and it took everything in me not to go and see her, but when word got to the council of elders that I was able to locate the werewolf who killed my father, everything just had a mind of its own from there on.Suddenly I had to do this or that, and when Connor asked to speak to me, I knew it wasn't anything good.We walked into the diner, and I saw Celina’s face lighten up. I realized she missed me as much as I missed her, but I couldn't tell Connor that the person I loved was a human. As she approached, smelling her scent, I realized how much I had missed.“Hi, I'm...” She started, but I cut her short.“We'll have two coffees.” I said that without looking at her.I didn't need to look at her to know just how betrayed she felt. I could just feel it. But she didn't speak; she walked away to get us our order.“So what was so important that you couldn't
(Celina's POV)I didn't expect it to be Landon, who just kidnapped me from the bonfire.Under different circumstances, I would have been happy to see him, but not after how he treated me when he came to the diner.“Why are you here?” I asked as I looked around, clenching the blanket that I was covering myself with tight around me. It was cold in the forest.“I thought you'd be happy to see me?” He asked, confusion written all over his face.“I was glad to see you at the diner, remember?” I scoffed. “When you treated me like a stranger?” I asked as I started walking, “It’s late, and I have to go to bed.”He appeared in front of me and said, “I didn't mean to ignore you, but I can't let anyone know that you are the person I'm in love with.” He said this, and both my and his eyes widened.“You love me?” I was surprised. He sighed as he hung his head and said, “I do. I just don't know if you feel the same.”I didn't know how to react; I was happy, excited, and a variety of other emotions
[Two and a Half Years Later.]As you approach the manor, a striking fusion of modern elegance and timeless charm unfolds before your eyes. The exterior, draped in various shades of soothing grey, exudes an air of both welcoming warmth and upper-class sophistication.Lucas and Celina wanted to build a home but they never thought it would turn out this beautiful. It had taken time for them to get to this point and they had. Together.Paul’s father, Alan, had been sceptical about pouring money into Lucas’ project. If Lucas’ father didn’t want to do this why did he have to?But he’s leap in faith had worked, and together with Lucas and Celina, they had bought other manors that they had made to be a safe haven for werewolves.Hiding in plain sight.Celina wiped the sweat off her forehead, she had been working on her garden for most of the morning. Not like they wanted for anything but Celina w
(Four Months Later)(Third Person’s POV)Jane couldn’t help but smile when she felt the warm, familiar kiss on her cheek. She had never been one to believe in love, but with Landon, she had no control over her heart. He had a way of making her feel safe and loved, and she couldn’t imagine her life without him.“Good morning, sunshine,” Landon whispered in her ear, his voice still husky from sleep.Jane couldn’t help but feel a flutter in her stomach every time he called her that. “Why are you up so early?” she asked, still feeling groggy from the early hour but a smile still plastered on her face.“I could ask you the same thing. Why are you asleep at this time of the morning?” Landon replied, a mischievous glint in his eyes. He reached for her hand and kissed it gently, his touch sending shivers down her spine. “You used to be the early riser, remem
(Celina’s POV)I felt like sleeping beauty when I woke up.I could barely remember half of what happened but I didn’t catch a small bit about Belinda not being the motherly person I thought she was.Lucas was beside me when my eyes flattered open.He smiled when I looked at him, “welcome back to the land of the living.”“You make it sound as though I was dead.”He chuckled, “you have no idea the rucks that ensued once you turned into…” he stopped, looked at me and shook his head, “I am just happy to have you back.”I tried to get up and Lucas was on his feet ready to help me.“Are you trying to protect me from something?”Lucas looked at me confused.“I heard the entire thing with Belinda. Maybe Paige should have let her get her revenge.” I stated, “remember how I felt when we found about the old man P
(Third-person POV)Belinda had vanished, taking advantage of the fact that everyone was concerned with Celina to slip away. But the rest of the group was confused. They turned to Paige; they needed answers to the bomb she had just dropped in front of everyone.“How did you know about Belinda?” Adolphus was the first to ask.Everyone would have expected he would have been the first to know and inform everyone, but he didn’t.It did leave a bad taste in Brody’s mouth.Brody had decided to come here to spend time with Celina, his sister, and maybe use this time as vacation, as he hardly ever left his small village.“The better question should be how you didn’t know.” Lucas definitely wasn’t pleased with this new information. They had made a plan with both of them. Celina had been suspicious and didn’t trust either Adolph
(Belinda’s POV)This was the night. The night when every meticulous plan of mine was supposed to come to fruition.I had been working towards this moment for what felt like an eternity, lurking in the shadows, orchestrating everything to perfection. It wasn’t an easy feat, especially with the unexpected visits from guests at the manor. But their presence only added fuel to my carefully laid-out schemes.I thought I had accounted for every possible obstacle and every potential threat. But then there was Celina. A sharp, observant woman who almost unravelled all my efforts with her sudden departure when she found out she was a werewolf. But then there was Adolphus.Ah, Adolphus. His loyalty and cunning mind were just what I needed to salvage the situation. However, the night took an unforeseen turn. A turn I never could have predicted. My past, with all its dark secrets, came knocking at my doo
(Jane’s POV)I didn’t have to do much to get Landon’s attention away from me. Even I froze when my eyes locked on where Landon was facing. There was a werewolf that seemed to have sensed our arrival and was looking right at us, but Landon didn’t even seem to notice, with his eyes transfixed at… my gaze following his. What the hell was going on here? I wondered as I looked at the werewolf, strung up like a sacrifice.Landon almost instinctively lunged towards the werewolf, who now had its back turned to us. Celina, I guessed, as I watched him confront the other werewolves, who were now attentive and standing guard.I looked at the door and headed for it. If my research was right, Theresa, the witch, would be able to reverse the curse. It had been someone in her bloodline—her mother was my guess—so she should do just fine.At least that is what I hoped. The door was open. It ma
(Third Person’s POV)[The Night of the Full Moon]As some of the werewolves were eager and celebrating as the sun went down, there were a few people who knew what this full moon meant to them.Unfortunately, Doris hadn’t been able to provide some sort of revelation about Celina’s condition or even dispute her daughter’s words. She seemed clueless as to what was even happening. It was also unfortunate for Brody when the third lady stopped by.“I couldn’t be able to make it here in person, so I am using her as a shell.” This mysterious, unknown lady said as she walked right in, making herself feel at home.Brody and Lucas shared a look of confusion.“I’m sorry, who did you say you were again?” Brody interrupted the relaxed lady. She sighed as she shook her head in annoyance. “I would have assumed that
(Third Person’s POV)[Day of the Full Moon.]While Brody was running around trying to make calls back home and track down a witch that was either going to help her sister, Celina, live or solidify her fate of uncertainty. Landon and Jane had already begun their day. Each had a plan in mind.Landon held the door open with his foot as he also struggled to carry the grocery bags. Jane chuckled. “What a gentleman.” Her tone was playful: “You have your hands full. I am sure I could have opened the door.”Landon stepped out, the bags now steady in his arms, and was able to look at Jane, “We are both outside, aren’t we?”Landon felt this need for responsibility over Jane. The old woman had taken him in after all, and now he was going to return the favour by protecting her.Jane’s sweet old voice started to chuckle. “Can you also open the car door wi
(Brody’s POV)[Eve of the Full Moon.]We were unable to hide the truth from everyone, as most of the night Celina had been howling. It made most people unable to sleep; they actually came out to find the source of the howling on the night before the full moon.“You have to put her to sleep so the rest of our guests can sleep too.” Belinda suggested. There was something going on in this house, but I had yet to piece everything together.“I don’t want to have my guest too exhausted for tomorrow night.” Adolphus, who I had learned was Lucas’ father, chimed in, “The point of coming to stay here is so they can rest up for the full moon while they network.” He mumbled the last part. I guess he forgot that most of us were werewolves. No one wanted to volunteer, so I guess I was the one to do this.I stepped forward, “How do we go about sedating her?
