Jason's POV:

"Jason, what are you doing here?" Lucas demanded, looking at me suspiciously.

I was taken aback by his sudden appearance.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

Lucas glared at me, his arms crossed over his chest. "I could ask you the same thing. What do you want with Veronica?"

I hesitated, trying to come up with an excuse. "I just wanted to check on her. She didn't seem okay during dinner."

Lucas snorted. "Right. Like you care about her."

I felt my anger rising, but I knew I had to keep my cool. "What are you doing here, Lucas?"

He smirked at me. "I live here, remember? Unlike you, I don't have to make excuses to be with Veronica."

I gritted my teeth, feeling a surge of jealousy. "I'm not making excuses. I just want to talk to her."

Lucas shook his head. "She doesn't want to talk to you. She made that pretty clear."

Lucas eyed me skeptically, but thankfully Veronica spoke up. "It's okay, Lucas," she said. "Jason was just checking on me."
