***SILVIA'S POV ***

A faint beep echoed its way to my awareness. It sounds rhythmic to every heartbeat, pulling me back to consciousness.

“What I don't understand is why she would make an attempt to take her own life. Do you think she doesn't like it here?" Derrick's voice , sounding like an echo pierced the air tinged with sadness and confusion.

My eyes darted onto the syringe attached to my palm, reminding me of my vulnerability, and an intravenous tube attached to it.

“ Hailey! Why didn't she try to stop her? .” His voice sent chills down my spine, I tilted my head to his direction.

Swiftly, I sat up, but winced in pain the moment pain racked my body. “How did I get here?” Fear was evident in my trembling voice as the memories flashed through my mind. “Did I-I hurt ?”

“Calm down. You're just surprised, you would be fine. ,” he assured, nodding in agreement. “You don't have to panic, okay? You would be fine.”

“What happened?” I asked myself, creasing my forehead unto an even deeper frown. “I can barely remember anything?” I lied.

Why am I doing this? I just got here, I have to keep things in touch.

“You tried commiting a sucide Sylvia, I know we aren't the best family, or ...,” he said, his voice filled with pain and regret.

The door to my hospital ward opened with a creak, earning our attention.

“ How is your guest?” Hailey asked, her footsteps echoing in the ward.

“She is awake, get the doctor,” authority laced his voice as he ordered her, never taking his eyes off of me.

My throat ran dry. Hailey gave me a deadly glare, tilting her head sideways, that was a sign, more like a threat.

“Calm down. No one would hurt you, not even me.” His deep voice twisted my stomach into knots.

My heart skipped two beats when I felt the mate bound, he can't probably cause any harm to me but his beta can. There is no way I would tell him that she made an attempt to murder me,I'm just a weak omega.

I eyed him, watching the rising and falling of his broad chest. His eyes held severity, complimenting his sharp jaw.

“ Can you remember what really happened?” He inquired, and the memories of Hailey pushing me off the cliff stung my heart.

I pressed my lips into a flat line, keeping mute and only staring blankly at him.

“Did I ever hurt you?” He asked again.

The door opened once again and Vani came rushing in, angry and impatient. She stared dangerously at Hailey without saying a word.

“Vani dear?” I called, blinking rapidly.

Lines creased her forehead as she studied me, looking for probably injuries or scratches. Soon, her eyebrows were released and she sighed in relief.

“How are you feeling now, Sylvia?!” She gasped, palming her mouth. “Princess Brielle!”

Derrick’s phone rang, interrupting our moment. He glanced at it, and then lifted his eyes to me.

“I will be back, this is a business call,” Derrick stated, rising from his seat. “Please, make sure she is in great shape.”

Vani nodded before he exited the room with Hailey, his last words being, “I will take down the rogues myself!”

I turned back to Vani who was now approaching my bed with her arms hung open.

“I have missed you so much! You've been out for completely two days” She enveloped me in a hug, happiness echoing in her voice.

Funny, how Vani is the only one I can trust right now! I believe she must be aware of my case, she just decided to do it for her dad. But why?

****VANIS POV***

“Why did you lie to dad?” She asked, scanning my entire body, noticing my wounds were healing perfectly.

“Well,” she started, lowering herself on my bed. “About a lot of things, I choose to keep them a secret because…” She paused. " Never mind."

She trailed off, and my stomach felt sick with sympathy. “I'm sorry!,” I muttered.

“I don't want you to be scared of her, my dad might not listen to me, bet he loves you and the mate is bound to conquer everything.,” she responded with a tight-lipped smile. “I studied you carefully, you are a low ranked wolf but that doesn't make you a fool, that was actually Hailey doing, when I came, you were already surrounded with blood. She came up with the story, telling everyone you made an attempt to commit sucide.”

A gasp slipped out of my lips, and my eyes darted around the place as I said in askance, “ Wow do you trust me this much?”

She smiled, kissing my knuckles.

“ I bet your dad must have been worried sick about me right?” I questioned, and my mood lightened a bit. “. Oh shit! I shouldn't have asked that.”

She chuckled, feeling a cloud of joy hovering over me. She seems like a happy kid, who only watched for the comfort of a mom, too bad Hailey couldn't take a chance of this great opportunity.

“ He couldn't concentrate any longer, he missed meals and spent most of his days in the hospital with you.” She smirked.

With a heavy sigh, I confessed, “I don't think I can stay in your palace, Haily is a threat and I'm not a match for her.”

She inquired about what I had just said, and I told her everything I had been true in the hands of a brutal father.

“I would help you out Sylvia, you helped me accomplish a dream by coming into my life, not just as my dad's mate but also my dream mom!” My face turned red.

I swallowed hard, shoulders sagging as we fell into a bout of silence.

“I'm sorry you had to grow up without a mom,” I broke the silence, sharply exhaling.

“I'm happy your dad is happy. I would always be here for you dear,” I gulped.

“You don't have to worry about Hailey, I will take care of her.,” she assured me. “I have something important to tell you.”
