Vaughan‘s Pov

‘This wasn’t the plan!’. My wolf, Zane muttered, pissed that our plans were ruined.

‘I know, but we have no choice than to attend the celebration’. I replied, as I came down from the car, my eyes swept over the expanse of the packhouse ahead of us. Dorian had a big house, I knew it was as a result of the legacy that was led so many decades before his own father became the Alpha of Dark valley.

“I should probably make use of this opportunity and have a good time”. Hank, my omega, winked at me, and I shot him a glare, knowing what he was up to. If not because my beta would do a better job in handling matters, at the pack, I wouldn’t have brought him along, when I knew he was a dickhead.

Before we could take a few steps forward I saw Dorian at the entrance, with another male beside him, which I knew was none other than his beta.

“I thought you wouldn’t make it to the celebration”. His face was brimming with smiles.

‘Tell him we have no time for meaningless parties like this’. Zane panned out, coming out to the surface once again. He didn’t like the fact we were on another territory.

“Guess my beta forgot to send my reply to you”. I acquiesced, faking a smile as I tried my best to control my tongue from saying what I had in mind.

“No worries, your presence is enough to make up for it”. He ushered us into his huge hall, where the celebration was already in full effect. I just hoped enduring the boring celebration would be worth it in the end. I could see the effect of my aura as soon as I entered the hall, some Alpha’s were in attendance, and it made me feel like they had enough time on their plate to be here.

‘Do you think we will be able to find it here?’. Zane asked.

‘I have no idea. If we don’t we will continue with our search, there are many other packs to search’. I answered, having a weird feeling about the whole visitation. My eyes scanned the faces around, searching for the thing that brought us here.

‘The earliest we find it the better’. He said, retreating from the surface of my mind.

‘I know, I’m also worried’. I sighed in frustration.

Almost two decades, and I had never experienced anything out of the ordinary before. Having enemies was a norm, I had countless enemies, those that hate my guts and those I provoked on purpose. These recent attacks on my pack wasn’t done by my kind, but something else.

No injury whatsoever on their body, but just the oozing of blood from their eyes, nose, mouth and ears, then we wouldn’t find a heartbeat. Whatever it was would get in, and manage to leave without a trace.

“Why are there so many boring females here? Tsssk tsssk…”. Hank muttered, disrupting my thoughts. His eyes peered around for anyone that caught his interest.

“Keep your blazing dick to yourself for once”. I gritted out, as I watched the dancers performing on the stage.

‘Can’t you ditch this?’. Zane resurfaced. He was oddly restless and moody, ever since we got to Dark valley.

‘What is it? You are crappy than usual’. His edginess was rubbing off on me. I knew he couldn’t wait to leave here, but so I am.

‘I hate it here’. He grumbled.

“At last! Someone to make up for this shitty celebration”. Hank said out of the blue and I moved my gaze in the direction of his attention, and my eyes settled on the person that looked out of place in the hall, with her choice of dressing.

Wait, was she in a sandstorm?. Her face was bent over, as she limped forward, and it made me more curious to see how she looked.

“A pretty sight, right?”. Hank jabbed his elbow at my side and I gave him a scowl. Was he serious? If it was the same girl I just saw that he was referring to, it meant he was hallucinating.

‘MATE!’. Zane growled unexpectedly, surprising the hell out of me. A faint sweet scent hit my nostrils, as I tried to know where the scent came from, a glass of what I didn't know poured on me.

What the freaking hell!

From my disordered state I saw someone rush to my side, and began to wipe away whatever it was on my clothes, as her strong cologne hit my nose. How dare she touch me?!

I’m…I’m so sorry”. She whispered, pressing her whole body against mine, and I could see the taint flush on her cheeks. Senseless dumb wit.

‘Get her off you! Mate is here!’ Zane said again, and I could feel he wanted to take control. I managed to pry her off my body, I turned around trying to see who our mate was, but I saw the same girl, whom I had seen running towards the exit. Wait…is she our mate? Damn!

‘Did mate just run away from us?’. I didn’t even get the chance to reply to Zane's question, when I heard Dorian’s order.

“I want her dead!”

‘How dare he?! Get her!’.

My feet moved on their own accord, at Zane’s request, sensing the danger in the air.

‘Let me take over’. Zane ordered, as Ieft the Dorian’s packhouse.

‘No!’. Zane wasn’t as logical as I was, and he could complicate things more. In no time I’ve surpassed the wolves that were after her. Their strength and agility was nothing compared to mine.

I traced her scent to a well hidden cave, and it led me outside DarkValley, and into the woods, but I almost missed my steps as my feet collided with something solid.

I froze and stopped in my tracks as my eyes took in the stiff naked corpse on the bushy ground. From the dried blood all over his face, I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me what had happened. I sniffed around, even though I knew whatever had attacked him was long gone.

‘The fucking creature was here!’. Zane yelled, clearly more agitated than ever. My eyes continued to inspect the woods. The nature of the corpse was the same, as the one found in my pack. I came here in disguise to seek the solution only to find another victim, or did it trace me here?.

‘What is going on? Why are you running after her?!’. Hank’s sudden voice in my head interrupted my strain of thoughts.

‘I need your ass here, right now’. I ordered in a rush, ignoring his question, just as I noticed my purpose for this chase in the first place was getting farther away from me.

‘Where are…?’.

I didn’t wait for him to complete his sentence, before I explained everything to him, and cut off the link. Shit!. I had lost her!. Where the heck did she run to?.

‘We need to find her. What if that creature is still around?!’. Zane’s last sentence was all I needed as I searched for her, using her scent as a guide.

I walked deeper into the woods, not sure if she was around. I got to a part that looked cleared up a bit. A debilitated house came into sight, and I made my way to it, but stilled at the sight in front of me.

An emotion I never thought existed within me, sprung up clouding my head. She was with another male, and he was leaning on her.

How could she?! Can’t she feel our matebond?!

They crossed the threshold of the old house, walking deeper into the woods. I focused on the male whose body weight rested on hers as they slowly trudged forward.

‘Who the hell is he?!’. Zane’s fury was pulsing through my veins as my eyes continued to follow their movement.

‘Take him down! I want to tear him into pieces! Let me out!’. My legs began to move stealthily on its own accord, listening to Zane’s quest to spill blood.
