Vaughan’s Pov
My eyes took in the crowded hall, where Dorian’s party took place. I hate everything about the damn party, but it was a sacrifice I had to make for being here. Dorian was a dimwit to believe I was here for his darn celebration, when I had important things to attend to. As I scanned the huge hall feeling anxious all of a sudden, I felt a pair of eyes on me. It was Dorian’s mate. I wondered why she gawked at me so shamelessly, when her mate was right close to her. “There are so many boring females here”. Hank, my Omega whispered beside me, disrupting my thoughts. His eyes peered around for anyone that caught his interest. “For once keep your blazing dick to yourself”. I muttered, as I watched the dancers perform on the stage. A sweet scent hit my nostrils. It was so faint for me not to even have perceived it. I turned around instantly, searching through the crowd in the hall, as I tried to discern where the scent came from. “At last! Someone to make up for this shitty party”. Hank said out of the blue. I moved my gaze in the direction of his attention. My eyes settled on the person that just limped through the entrance. She looked out of place in the hall, with her poor choice of dressing. She definitely wasn’t a maid. ‘MATE!’. Zane growled unexpectedly, surprising the hell out of me. I blinked my eyes, to reassure myself that I wasn't daydreaming. Her dark hair covered her face, and it made me more curious to see how she looked. I then noticed she was carrying something in her arms. “A pretty sight, huh?”. Hank jabbed his elbow at my side, and disrupted my line of sight. I scowled at him. ’MATE’. Zane screamed again, as she got closer to me. My whole body became stiff, as all kinds of emotions ran through my head all at once. She was a few steps away from me, when a glass of what I didn't know splashed on my shirt. From my disordered state, someone rushed to my side, as her strong perfume hit my nose. She began to wipe my shirt. How dare she touch me?! “I’m…I’m so sorry”. She whispered, pressing her whole body against mine, I saw the blush on her cheeks. She was enjoying this. Senseless dumb wit. ‘Get her off you! Mate is here!’ Zane yelled, and I could feel he wanted to take control. I managed to pry her off my body, just then I heard Dorian’s order. “I want her dead!”. Who was he referring to? He was already at my side. “I’m so sorry”. He glanced at my already stained shirt. “She would surely pay for this”. He gritted out, and I saw the raw anger in his eyes directed at the person responsible for spilling the drink in me. But I had something more important to do. I turned around trying to take a full glimpse at my mate, but I saw her running towards he entrance to the hall. Wait…Dorian was referring to her! ‘How dare he try to kill her?!’. At Zane’s words, my feet moved on their own accord, sensing the danger in the air. I need to get to her before Dorian’s men catch up with her. ‘Let me take over’. Zane ordered, as Ieft the Dorian’s packhouse. ‘No! I need to handle this on my own’. I disagreed immediately. Zane wasn’t as logical as I was, and he could complicate things further by acting on impulse. In no time I’ve surpassed the wolves that were after her. Their strength and agility was nothing compared to mine. I traced her scent to a well hidden cave, and it led me outside DarkValley, and into the woods, but I almost missed my steps as my feet collided with something solid. I froze and stopped in my tracks as my eyes took in the stiff naked corpse on the bushy ground. From the dried blood all over his face, I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me what had happened. The nature of the corpse was the same, as the one found in my pack, a few weeks ago. It was the main reason I was in DarkValley. Dorian’s shitty party was just an excuse to be here. No injury whatsoever on their body, but just the oozing of blood from their eyes, nose, mouth and ears, then there wouldn’t be a heartbeat, after a few minutes. Whatever it was would get in, and manage to leave without a trace. Having enemies was a norm for me, I had countless of them. Those that hate my guts, and those I provoked on purpose, but I knew these recent attacks weren't done by my kind, rather something else. Almost two decades, and I had never experienced anything out of the ordinary before. ‘The fucking creature was here!’. Zane yelled, clearly more agitated than ever. I sniffed around, even though I knew whatever had attacked him was long gone. My eyes continued to inspect the woods. I came here to find the solution only to discover another victim. Did it follow me here? ‘What is going on? Why are you running after her?!’. Hank’s sudden voice in my head interrupted my strain of thoughts. ‘I need your ass here, right now’. I ordered in a rush, ignoring his question, just as I noticed my purpose for this chase in the first place was getting farther away from me. ‘Where are…?’. I didn’t wait for him to complete his sentence, before I explained everything to him, and cut off the link. Shit!. I had lost her!. Where the heck did she run to?. ‘We need to find her. What if that creature is still around?!’. Zane’s last sentence was all I needed as I searched for her, using her scent as a guide. I walked deeper into the woods, not sure if she was around, or had gotten away. I got to a part that looked cleared up a bit. A debilitated house came into my sight, and I made my way to it quietly trying not to make a sound so as not to alert them in case anyone was there. But just then I saw her with another male, as they walked out from the entrance of the house. She held a small duffel bag along with her. I stilled at the sight in front of me. They crossed the threshold of the old house, walking deeper into the woods. I focused on the male whose body weight rested on hers as they slowly trudged forward. An emotion I never thought existed within me, sprung up clouding my head. She was with another male, and he was leaning so fucking close to her. How could she?! Can’t she feel our matebond?! ‘Who the hell is he?!’. Zane’s fury was pulsing through my veins as my eyes continued to follow their slow movement. ‘Take him down! I want to tear him into pieces! Let me out!’. My legs began to move stealthily on its own accord, listening to Zane’s quest to spill blood.Vaughan‘She is mine!’. I could already feel the tips of my sharp claws digging into my palms. All logical thoughts evade me, until something nicked my mind. I halted my steps instantly. I tried everything within me not to go after them. ‘No, we won’t do anything’. I said calmly after the few longest seconds I had ever experienced. It seems he had forgotten about our rule. I wouldn’t fight over her. That would be my last fight, if I ever did.‘I don’t give a fuck about our damn rules! I want her! She is mine’. I could feel his jealousy, and I wouldn’t deny it, I felt the same.I had rejected two mates in the past, on my own terms, and it would be the same with hers, but wouldn’t be necessary with her. ‘Let me out! I must get out!’. I resisted against Zane. Just as I was about to turn around, I saw the men after her earlier had already surrounded them. Four against two, they had no chance against them. I turned around ready to leave, but heard a gut wrenching scream. I turned aroun
Raven Shooting pains woke me up. Every movement I made caused me great discomfort. The brightness of the room made me close my eyes almost immediately. I was able to move my hands, but it hurts like hell. I tried to sit up from the bed, then realized I was cladless as the blanket exposed my bare upper body. I quickly pulled it up. Where are my clothes?. I held my head with one hand, as one leg made it to the floor. “Good to see you awake”. I heard a gruff voice. I shifted my gaze to the door. A pair of dark golden eyes pierced into mine. Had he been here all along?. My eyes widened immediately, as I realized he had seen me half naked. I felt my cheeks flushed slightly. What is wrong with me?. His muscular shoulders rested on the wall close to the door, as he continued scrutinizing me like a hawk. I felt like a small prey under his gaze. He left the wall, and began to saunter towards me, I held the blanket around me a little tighter. It took everything within me not to cower b
VaughanShit shit shit. ‘How could you mark her?!’. I screamed at Zane. As I cradled her limp frame in my arms. I was quick to hold her before she hit the rocky ground. Her neck where I had marked her was bleeding profusely. I eased out of my shirt and used it to keep pressure on the wound. Fear crept slowly into my heart. It was different from the one I had, when I saw her at the edge of the cliff.‘I did it for us! She could have jumped off the cliff, if I hadn’t done something!’. Zane clarified. I kept quiet. He was right, she could have jumped off the cliff, if I hadn't intervened at the right time. I mind linked Jade, the pack doctor, as I hurried through the mountains back to the packhouse. My eyes were locked on her chest to ensure she was still breathing. Her warm body was getting colder and paler with every passing minute. Marking her was the last thing I wanted, but Zane just had to complicate everything. I should have known I would lose my control over him not when it c
“That is not possible”. I muttered, shaking my head. I had seen her wolf before. In fact no one could ever forget that sight in their lifetime. “That’s just my speculation, because I can’t feel her wolf”. My gaze went to my mate’s face and moved back to hers. I held her gaze, and said with certainty.“She has her wolf, she shifted right in front of my eyes”. Excluding the part about the rare color of her wolf. “Are you sure?”. She asked doubts visible in her eyes. “Of course, I saw it very clearly”. She heaved a heavy sigh, as her left hand made its way to her wounded neck. Her bleeding seemed to have stopped. That was a good sign.“This is strange…her body is…is clearly rejecting your bond, and her body is very weak”. She whispered her last sentence as she stood upright, her expression suddenly grave.“What is it?”. I didn’t beat around the corners. I understood the look in her eyes, she was hiding something from me. “She is really a fierce one, only on rare occasions do people s
RavenShuffle sounds made me cognizant of my own existence. I moved my stiff arms then my fingers touched my neck. My eyes widened in terror, as I vividly recalled what had happened to me. He marked me! Why would he mark me?! Surely I wasn’t his…“I’m sorry for…for disturbing you”. A scared voice interrupted my line of thoughts. It was a young girl, with an apron tied around her waist. She was obviously cleaning the room, before I woke up. Her head was bent downwards, as she avoided my eyes. “It’s…it’s okay”. I mumbled, discovering she was tense, because of my presence. She scurried out of the room, not sparing me a glance. My eyes scanned the room, and I realized I was in another room. It was bigger, and more luxurious than the previous one they had placed me in.Immediately I knew whose room I was in. Tears of frustration instantly filled my eyes. Why can’t he just let me be?! I quickly dashed my tears away, and sat up gently, wincing at the pain all over my body. Killing myself
I didn’t utter a word as we stared at each other, eyes locked on one another . My eyes peered towards the door, hoping Jade would come in anytime soon to save me from him. I know I was cold to her, but I would prefer her company to him.“She won’t come here”. He said, as if reading my mind. He stood and began to walk slowly to where I stood rooted to the floor. “I…need some clothes”. I stammered, moving backwards to evade his closeness. “You can wear mine, at least you have worn one before”. He gestured towards the huge wardrobe that was opposite the bathroom. He had his hair packed above his nape, and it made him look more like a bad Alpha that he is. I knew his hair would be softer than how it looked. Was that the natural color? “Hmmm?”. I was jolted from my thoughts. What is wrong with me?! He raised his eyebrows at me, still expecting a response from me, but I kept my mouth closed. His eyes lingered on my neck for a few seconds, and I noticed an emotion crossed his eyes for a s
Vaughan“It better be something important, for I left my mate to be here”. I warned Gale as soon as I entered the office, but halted my steps as I saw the person in the middle of the room.He looked so haggard and unkempt that I hardly recognized him. His clothes were torn as if he had been in a serious battle.“What the hell happened? Why are you here?”. I stared at Skye. He was one of the spies I had sent out to get more information about the dead wolf in the woods. He wasn’t supposed to be here, at least not so early. “We…we were… I don’t know what happened… Kyle…he…”. At the mention of his cousin’s name, I realized he wasn’t in the room with him.“Where is he?”. I asked instantly, and peered at Gale, who was unusually quiet, with a sober expression on his face. “Can someone tell me what the hell happened?!”. I bellowed, frustrated at being kept in the dark. I looked between my beta and Skye. Something was awry.“He…I can’t find him anywhere…we…”. Skye began,“What do you mean? Y
“It's been a while”. Della said and gave me a toothy smile. We saw each other a few days back. What does she want? “What are you doing here?”. I tried to keep the irritation out of my voice, but it was hard. ‘How could you let her in!’. I linked Hank. ‘I tried! I didn’t want to hurt her!’. He explained. “We didn’t say a proper goodbye the last time”. She sulked, and folded her arms, pushing her breasts upwards. She wanted to impress me, but it was of no use. I didn't find her attractive enough. “To start with, I don't think we have any relationship between us, and don’t tell me you came all the way from DarkValley for your little excuse”. She was definitely going nuts. “It doesn’t matter. I’m here already, but your Omega had to make me wait”. She turned and shot Hank a glare. “You shouldn’t be out here alone, Is your brother aware of this?”. “Come on, I'm not a little girl. What harm can little sightseeing do?”. “My pack isn’t for sightseeing, you should head bac
Vaughan pov“It better be something important, for me to leave my mate”. I said to Hank, as I strolled into the office, also noticing Gale was here.“I think he found a link to the person who took the missing locket”. Gale said, throwing a document on the desk. I discovered it was the list of everything that was brought into the pack. It had been a way of ensuring everything was under scrutiny, and control from people that did illegal work, within the pack. I scanned the list, but did not find anything I felt was important to us.“What is this about?”. I asked, staring at the both of them for explanation, as I dropped the document back on the desk. They better not be kidding me!“Didn't see the odd item there?”. Hank asked calmly, which only made me pissed off the more. He took the list, and pointed at a single item, which was brought into the pack.“Don't you find this odd?”. He raised his eyebrows, and I stared at the item again, racking my brain on what he meant. “Who brought thi
Raven pov“WHAT?!”. Vaughan yelled and moved from his closet, which he had been rummaging for some minutes.“No, I can't allow that?”. He shook his head, and continued with what he was doing, dismissing what I just said.“Why?”. Not understanding his refusal, on allowing Mason to stay in the house.“I don't just want to, he is fine where he is. Why are you so keen about this?”. A frown appeared at his forehead, as he threw a shirt on.“He's just a child, and I'm not just saying this, because of him, but his sister, who misses his company. We will give him a separate room, for our privacy, if that's what you are bothered about”. I persuaded him.“They literally see each other everyday. How is that possible?”.“I wish it was only about that, but he had been oddly quiet these days, and more withdrawn into his shell, something is wrong about him”. He sighed deeply, and sat down on the bed. “I feel he needs some comfort, and someone who…”.“You pamper him beyond understanding, and differen
Riev pov“How is she doing?”. I asked Vaughan as soon as he came out of the room.“Handling it better than I could imagine, but she is already asleep”. He answered, as he glanced back at the opened door. “Still going with your plan, or you are not sure yet?”. His voice low, so as not to disturb Raven. “I have to go now”. I muttered, my heart feeling a bit heavy. I got new information that the situation was dire. “But I will be back earlier than intended”. I said. “You can stay back if you are that worried-”. “I know she is in safe hands, and she already has her wolf”. I interrupted him, my eyes on him. It would be better to handle the situation faster, and be back than shifting it. “Suit yourself“. He muttered dryly, and I pushed him aside, entering the room. Raven was sleeping calmly, I stared at her for a while, knowing the night had been hard for her. I wrote down a message for her on a notepad, before exiting the room. I wasn’t surprised to see him at the door.“You better mak
Raven pov‘Weak wolf?’. The voice scoffed in anger. ‘Now who the hell is the weak one, you piece of garbage’. It continued, and I kicked a part of his limb which was close to my foreleg. Picking up the scents of people nearby, I hid behind the pillar, just as the guards came back, scanning the surroundings, and looking for who had caused the mess. Everything felt like I was doing too much. ‘After so long of being away, I never thought I would have to hide for my first kill'.The voice continued talking, while I had to bear with the noise, unable to do anything. It took a while, until I perceived a strong scent, followed by a series of frantic voices in my head. ‘Where the hell was she?!’.Immediately I saw Vaughan followed by Riev, both of them, and knew it was his thought. They both swept their eyes around, barking out orders at the guards around. I thought they both went for the pack run. ‘Well, here comes our overbearing mate, going over the top, like always as if we are freakin
Raven pov “Why are you acting so uptight?”. I asked Vaughan for the umpteenth time tonight, as he enveloped me in his arms.“You have gone for the packrun these past months, and nothing went wrong. I will be fine on my own”. I assured him, but he hugged me tighter. “I can't just help it but feel edgy. Zane needs to be out, but at the same time I feel strange about tonight’s run”. He said, his warm breath against my neck, before he pressed his lips to my mark, which made my toes curl.“Maybe I should stay back tonight…”. He said, and pulled his body away from me, his lips curling up in mirth. “No, you can't put off things you should do, because of me”. I moved a few steps back from him.“Nothing is more important to me than you”. “You have been this way ever since the past few days”. I muttered, and observed him, but he avoided my eyes. “You are hiding something from me”. I said, eyeing him intently. This was one of the times I hated being the only one who couldn't read his thought
Riev povFew days later…“So the rumors are true, you are finally leaving?”. Jade asked, sourly, her expression sad, as she peered at my belongings in the room. “You make it sound as if I’m going and never coming back. I have a sister here, remember?”. I peered at her, but she curled the ends of hair with her index finger, her eyes everywhere but mine.“That is why you have to take care of yourself”. She said, staring at me.“Come on, I'm not a child, surviving after escaping Dark Valley should give you a hint on what I'm capable of”. “It's about your sister, she would be worried about you. You don't know how much she was distressed, when she thought you were dead”. I had also been worried about leaving her here, but she would be fine. “Alpha Vaughan made it worse, when he tried to hunt you down, thinking you were her lover”. I chortled in disbelief, Vaughan was indeed crazy to have such absurd thoughts about us.“Sounds like he was nuts”. I muttered. He wouldn't be able to even i
Vaughan Pov I walked into the quarters where Hank had lived for years, ever since my late father had brought him into the pack. The virtue my father had seen in him and assigned him as my omega before he died was something I couldn't understand for a long time, until he started working with me.I realized his unwavering dedication to working for me and the welfare of the pack. If anyone deserved the position it was him, and it would be a shame to let him fade before my eyes.I was surprised to discover the door to his house was ajar, but the smell that hit me, as I entered his room, startled the crap out of me. “Hell man, what the fuck?!”. I yelled, covering my nose, before I combust from the foul stench. Everywhere was dark and stuffy, and without any change of air. How the hell did he cope being here all day for weeks. I made my way to the window, and pulled the curtains to one side, opening the window for ventilation. He was sprawled on his big bed, empty of alcohol bottles litte
Vaughan pov“Trust me, it’s only nice when the child isn’t yours”. Duncan whispered in my ears, as I continued to stare at Raven. I wondered how he knew what I was thinking. Darn mind reader!“Having your mate focus on the child isn’t something you would like at first, but you will surely get used to it”. He shrugged his shoulders.“Don’t tell me you get jealous of your own child?”. I asked, in disbelief. “Not really jealous, but you will surely get what I mean if you have your own child, especially when it’s a boy. Currently more than satisfied with my girls”. He said, smiling.I stared at Raven, and noticed Mason who stuck his small frame beside her. Immediately I felt envious of him, it wasn’t quite serious, but It made me feel uncomfortable. “You already have one to contend with, so good luck with that”. “Look at the way she clung to you, I’m so jealous”. Fia said. Everyone seemed smitten by the child, while I was the only one who couldn’t muster up the courage to touch her. “
Vaughan pov“What are you doing here?”. I asked Duncan, as I entered my office, seeing him sitting on my chair as if he owned it. “Never seen an Alpha being late to his duties”. He said, swilleving himself around on the chair. “Might be one of the perks of being a newly mated Alpha”. He clicks his tongue, while shaking his head in feigned concern. “I should say the same about you, who left your packs several miles away to be here”. Being less busy wasn’t something I knew he was at the moment, which makes me wonder why he was here. “Say hello to my mate first”. He smiled and gestured with his head behind me. I turned around and saw his mate, along with their baby’s who looked bigger than the last time I had seen her. She looked so much like her father.“I thought having her with me to meet your mate would be nice, since we haven’t met her before, don’t you think?”. He winked at me, while I stood there dumbfounded. “Hi, Freya, nice to have you here”. I said to her, and the baby in h
