(Theia’s POV)
I typed furiously at my keyboard, allowing the words to flow through me as always.
[ “Mate!” he said as he realised that the woman sitting a few tables down was the reason for the intoxicating scent. Even now, as he stared at her, unable to drag his eyes away, he could see the subtle differences in her hair. It wasn’t just blond, it held strands of pure gold and honey gold. Her skin appeared to glow with a radiance that wasn’t there a few moments before.
What he couldn’t understand was that although he scented his sweet mate as soon as he walked into the cafe, it wasn’t until they made eye contact that he realised that she was indeed his fated mate. Even somewhere deep down, back at the office when he had the urge to come down to the cafe, there was that pull to find her. Like he already knew, or some part of him did and was guiding him to her.
“Well duh,” he heard the inner rough voice of his wolf in the back of his head, “Now go get mate.” The Alpha rolled his eyes at the impatience of his wolf.
“It’s not as easy as that,” he replied in his head, “Take her scent again,” He made a point of breathing in her deep alluring scent, the lemon played against his senses like a fresh wake up call and the honey wrapped around him like a home he never knew before today but couldn’t imagine ever not knowing again. But under all that was the scent that broke his heart a little.
“She is human,” he said to his wolf, the sadness in his tone.
“So,” the wolf scoffed, “I don’t care, I want mate,” and the alpha shook his head
“You know as well as I do that we can’t take a human to be our mate,”
“Don’t care, want mate,” the wolf responded. The Alpha knew that he wasn’t going to convince his wolf. The wolf was always single minded when it came to finding his mate, even if said mate didn’t have a wolf.
Everything was forgotten at that point when a movement from the table where the trio sat drew the Alpha’s attention. He watched from the corner of his eye as the three women stood up and the two other women took their turn to hug his new mate. She looked stressed as she spoke to the other two women and kept rubbing her head with her hand and closing her eyes. The Alpha wondered if she had a headache. Come to think of it, she did look kind of pale, or more pale than she did before. He couldn’t keep his eyes or his concern from her as he watched as she gathered her bag and phone and pushed her chair in.
“Mate leaving, stop her!” his wolf urged in his head and he felt the feeling of panic in his stomach, like something bad was going to happen.
“Stop her now!” his wolf was getting irritated and he could feel as he paced within his head.
“Okay, Okay,” the Alpha gave in, not just to the wolf but his own urge too. He stood up from his seat and noticed as his mate glanced over with a slightly surprised but also curious look. He allowed a half smile to form on his lips as he mirrored her actions and headed towards the door.
She kept glancing over, trying to be subtle, but the Alpha could see the nervousness in the way she moved. Did she know? Could she feel the mate bond? Humans rarely felt the bond because of the very limited amount of supernatural essence in their system. Once in a while, a human had enough essence in them to give them an edge above other humans, and that was when you got your mediums or tarot readers. They were nowhere as powerful as a true supernatural psychic, though. The Alpha made it to the door a second or so before his human mate and turned as he opened it with the intent of holding it open for her and using that as an excuse to introduce himself. But the look of confused fear on her face stopped his voice in his throat. He saw as she looked down half a second before her foot caught on a chair leg and she went flying straight into his arms.
The Alpha caught her before she crashed to the floor, his hand holding her bare arm to steady her. He knew in the very moment that his skin touched hers that it didn’t matter what she was, or who she was. All that mattered was that she had to be his. He smiled down at her with his most charming smile.
“Falling for me already,” he said with a wink, “At least let me introduce myself first.” He held out a hand as she looked at him with disbelief in her eyes, “My name is-” ]
BEEP BEEP BEEP
I jumped as my alarm went off on my phone and I scrambled to turn it off. I glanced at the display and saw I had a text message from my friend Harlow reminding me of our planned meeting today. Of course, that was why I had set the alarm, to make sure that I didn’t get sucked into hours of writing and forgot our plans again. I quickly glanced over at what I had just written and shook my head. I honestly wasn’t sure where half of this stuff came from. Supernatural Conclave? Alchemists? I thought alchemists were those medieval guys that changed lead to gold or something. But there was something different about these guys. I shrugged. It would come to me, it normally did when the time was right. That was how most of my books worked. Didn’t stop me from still being surprised every time I realised.
I glanced at the time again. I still had a little time, so I made a few quick notes. I needed a name for the characters. I couldn’t keep calling him The Alpha. Or her, his mate. And seriously, she tripped up and fell into his arms? I rolled my eyes. How cheesy was that? My readers would have a field day on that one. I wondered if I could edit that bit out and make it a little more plausible. I mean, I knew it was a paranormal romance, but there had to be some reality in there. But it would have to wait for now. I sighed and shut down my laptop. It was a good solid amount of words that I had written, but I felt like there were more bursting to get out of me. I suspected that I wouldn’t be sleeping tonight, or not until I had written what needed to be written.
It was a nice day out, so I decided to forgo a jacket and enjoy the feeling of the sun on my skin for the walk over to the cafe. It would only take me about five minutes to walk slowly over. I wanted to tie my hair up out of my eyes but I could still feel the headache that had started earlier on today. I grabbed one of my many medicine bottles and pulled out two pills and swallowed them down whole. After life long medical issues and at twenty-six I was pretty much well used to the many combinations of pills that the doctors had tried in the attempt to stop the seizures. I silently hoped, as I left my apartment, that these would work long enough for me to meet with my friends and get back home for a nap before I started writing again.
I thought back to what I had written on my walk over to the cafe. That one line hit me quite hard.
“He knew in the very moment that his skin touched hers that it didn’t matter what she was, or who she was. All that mattered was that she had to be his.”
I felt that somewhere deep inside me. After years of failed relationships, thinking that this one was different. Only for them to disappear or tell me that me and my mass amount of illnesses and stuff was too much to deal with, then the idea that someone would just want me despite all that ran deep into my core. But that was the beauty of fiction. You could make up the perfect man and fall in love with him as many times as you read the book he was in. The modern day world where a girl could have as many book boyfriends as she wanted. I sighed sadly. It was a shame that none of them could cuddle up with me and hold me whilst I cried against the pain coursing through my body. Or made love to me and took me to great euphoric heights, hell I would settle for cuddling on the sofa and watching a cheesy movie nowadays.
I sighed again as I arrived at the cafe and shook myself out of my pity party. I couldn’t walk into there with my eyes all watery again. The girls wouldn’t let me rest until I told them what was wrong. And the one thing worse than self pity was the pity on the face of your friends. I smiled and opened the door and walked into the cafe. A quick look around, and I saw Harlow and Naya sitting at one of the tables. They both smiled and waved, and I waved back as I headed over to them.
“Sorry I’m late,” I said as I sat down and Harlow laughed. Her grey-green eyes sparkled in amusement and she ran her fingers through her dark brown hair as it fell against her dewy blush skin.
“Did you think we would expect any different?” she said cheerfully, “Get caught in a writing sprint again?” and I nodded, feeling a little guilty.
“Anything good?” Naya asked, looking up from her phone putting it down long enough to pull her black hair back, exposing her rich tawny flawless complexion that guys just fell over themselves for. Both of these women had been my backbone over the last year and despite the three of us being so different, the one thing that brought us together, our writing had helped form the unlikely bond between a housewife and dedicated mother of three, a graduated with honours student from California and a pasty singleton. We had met at a writers conference and after realising that we all lived so close to each other, decided to support each other as we attempted to make it in the brutal world of writing.
“Earth to Theia,” Naya waved her hand in front of my eyes and I smiled at her, not realising that I had fazed out again. Hmm, maybe those pills weren’t going to last very long at all. One of the sure telltale signs was me slipping into a dissociative state. I could tell by the look on both girls’ faces that they had caught my slip and were concerned. I smiled brighter in hopes of dispelling their fears.
“I’m sorry, what were you saying?” I asked.
“I asked if you were writing anything good,” Naya said with a glance at Harlow. I nodded my head with a sudden spark of excitement.
“Actually, yeah,” I said, “I think it might have some potential. It’s still early days, but this one is a werewolf that falls in love with a human. I don’t know much yet but I do have around four thousand words written so we will see how it goes.”
“Ooh, can you imagine,” Harlow said excitedly, “Having a werewolf as a boyfriend, I bet those beasts could have you all night and still not get tired.” she had a sparkle in her eyes as I blushed in horror,
“Harlow!” I exclaimed, and she laughed. She was in the middle of a rather saucy book herself and often told us about her friend who was feeding her information about the kink scene for her research. I hadn’t heard of most of the things and always ended up blushing at the thought of it.
“Oh, you don’t know what you are missing until you miss it,” she said with a wink and I blushed again.
“So it’s a romance then?” Naya asked, and I shrugged, glad she changed the subject back to books.
“I’m not sure. There is this whole thing with these super powerful supernatural types that I still haven’t figured out yet. But it could be a good standalone,” I said, and both girls burst into laughter. I couldn’t help but smile along. My last two books were meant to be stanadlone’s, but they had grown into these massive worlds that all seemed connected. I went to say that there was still a chance, when the door to the cafe opened and a breeze ruffled in from behind me. I froze as I swore for the quickest second that I got the whiff of old leather books and fireplace fire. It was strange and kinda specific, but comforting for the time it was there, but it was gone as soon as it had arrived. I couldn’t help but glance around at the door quickly and saw a guy standing looking around as if he was looking for someone. I couldn’t say why, but I got the very sudden feeling that I knew him, like there was something familiar on the edge of my vision that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. I shrugged, sure that it was nothing, and turned back to the girls and back the conversation about books.
(Theia’s POV) I was struggling to concentrate on the conversation with my friends. What with being strangely aware of the man sat a few tables away and the rapidly increasing headache that was starting to make me feel sick. The chapter I just wrote before coming out kept pushing itself to the forefront of my mind. I mean, it was like the chapter was becoming real or something. He was sitting there, and I was sitting here. I was trying to remember the details of the chapter and was resisting the urge to pull out my phone and find it on the cloud. And then I was internally laughing at myself. Oh yeah, Theia, that’s right. You think you are some heroine in a book. The very idea sounded absurd. It still didn’t stop the strange feeling that I was having. It was the strongest urge to turn and look at the stranger, and that I could feel him sitting there behind me. The effort not to turn around was making my headache so much worse. “Hell
(Dominic’s POV) I looked down at my phone again and groaned when I saw Liam’s name. He had been messaging me pretty constantly for the last few hours. And they were getting more frequent, too. I sighed and looked back up at Theia. “I’m sorry,” I shook my head. “I really do have to go,” She shrugged like it was fine, but I could see the sadness in her eyes, and it hurt that I put it there. I wanted to reach out and take her hand. I wanted to feel the sparks again. Carrying her the whole way to her apartment had been amazing. I could feel the bond running through my body and my wolf Titan was acting like a giddy puppy, bounding around inside my head. “It’s okay,” she said quietly, “I appreciate your help today, and sorry if we took you away from something important,” I didn’t know what was harder to hear, the words that she said or that she believed them. I could tell that she didn’t see herself as significant, and I couldn’t
(Dominic’s POV)My jaw dropped as I stared at Liam.“Did I reject her?” I asked in shock. What the hell did he mean? Did I reject her? Why the hell would I have done that?“No, of course I didn’t reject her,” I snapped, “Where the hell would you get that notion from?”“But she’s human,” Liam said, eyeing me with confusion, “And a weak one at that,” Titan was furious and wanted to rip Liam’s throat out for calling our mate weak, and I wasn’t much less mad either. I didn’t try to stop the growl from escaping my mouth. Liam looked shocked and stood up slowly and started backing away.“Hey man,” he said, holding his hands in front of him in a defensive position, “I didn’t mean anything by it, I’m sorry I didn’t mean anything by it.” I growled again but fought against my wolf who too
(Theia’s POV)I cried myself to sleep after Dominic left. I didn’t understand why I was having such strong feelings. Maybe it was because it was the first time in a while that someone had shown an interest. I did have a tendency to catch emotions quickly, so maybe that was it. Or maybe it was my story, and how strangely familiar it all seemed. But did I really believe that Dominic was a werewolf and was in love with me because of some mythical bond? Geez Theia, I thought, stop dreaming. We live in the real world here, not one of my stupid books. The next day I dragged myself out of bed and ran myself a bath. There was no way that I was going to be able to stand in the shower with how I felt. After a long soak in the bath, I pulled on some comfortable jogging pants and a plain top. There was no point getting dressed in anything too good, comfort was key. I was just running a brush through my wet hair, with difficulty, when my doo
(Theia’s POV)I shifted uncomfortably on the sofa, not exactly sure what to do. The room suddenly felt awkward as Dominic stood politely, looking seriously hot in his tight cut jeans and that t-shirt that didn’t leave anything at all to the imagination.“Erm..” I said quietly and looked down, “would you like to sit down?” Dominic smiled and nodded his head.“Thank you,” he said as he sat on the sofa right next to me. I could smell the leather and fire smell again and wondered if it was his aftershave or something. I didn’t know what, but it smelt absolutely beautiful. I wanted to move closer and take a deep breath of it while running my hands down his thick biceps. Oh my god Theia, I thought to myself, what is wrong with you. I needed to move away, for I did something embarrassing. I went to stand up and Dominic held out his hand when I wobbled a little.“Where
(Theia’s POV) I looked in the mirror and groaned. It had been a couple of days since Dominic had come over and I had fallen asleep on him, and embarrassingly drooled all over him. I woke up the next morning in my bed. I had assumed that he had left, but some noise had led me out of the bedroom and into the main room. Dominic was in the kitchen area, making a full cooked English breakfast. We spent the morning together talking, and at some point during that conversation, I had agreed to go on a real date with him. So here I was Saturday night, and getting ready for the first date in well over a year. And with a guy that dreams would struggle to compare with. Naya had come over to help me get ready, which would have been great, but that woman was way more body confident than me. She put me in a black body hugging dress that cut at just above the knee. It was an elegant dress for sure, with a wide neckline. But on me it showed all my lumps and bum
(Theia’s POV)Dominic kicked the door to his apartment shut and pushed me against the wall next to it. The lights were still off and the feel of his hands on my body felt so much more heightened when I couldn’t see where they were going. His hands skimmed down my sides and onto my hips. His mouth smashed into mine as he pulled me closer to him, letting me feel just how excited he was. My stomach flipped, and I faltered slightly. This would be the first time I slept with someone since Mark, which was almost a year ago. He had made it clear that my abilities were not up to anything and certainly not worth the baggage that came with me. And Dominic was amazing. He was wealthy and intelligent and had a body built like a Greek god. There was no way that I was even remotely going to satisfy him. Oh god, I was going to make a complete fool of myself.Dominic must have noticed my less than full attention because he stopped. I fel
(Theia’s POV) I woke up all snuggled in thick white bedding. I reached out across the bed and it was warm but empty. I opened my eyes to confirm that I was indeed alone. Looking around the room, I could see, from the floor to ceiling windows, that it was still the middle of the night. I found a led clock on the nightstand on the other side of the bed which confirmed that it was just after 3am. I sat up in bed and looked around further. My mind flashed back to my dream the other day, and the similarities to what I was seeing and feeling, right down to me being naked. I pulled myself out of bed and looked around for something to wear. Right there on the floor, much like in my dream, was Dominic’s white shirt. It glowed in the moonlight from the window, like I had to be drawn to it. I leaned down and picked up the shirt and pulled it on, buttoning it up quickly. The shirt was big enough to cover me as it hit me around mid thigh. I looked aro

(Theia’s POV)After Dominic and I finally completed the mate bond, I felt like something important was slotting into place. Maybe this puzzle piece wasn’t so bad. Dominic had arranged the whole evening. He was just waiting for me to suggest going for a run, and then had Leah and other pack members set up the clearing for us. It was absolutely perfect. Which I found worrying that Dominic knew me so well that he knew what I thought perfect was. I guess in part; I wasn’t used to being part of something like this, to actually being wanted, or being part of a family. It would take some getting used to, for sure.We didn’t want to wait too long for the Luna ceremony. We hoped that having something to celebrate would help the pack recover from the attack. Although Logan had already started talking with Alex about some ideas he had for the warriors. Apparently, he was a natural and even suggested that warrior training started younger, for those who wanted it. It was amazing to see the change
(Theia’s POV)*** One Week Later ***Eventually, we made our way back home to the pack house. It was full morning by the time we got there, and Leah was looping the territory in wolf form. She shifted back to human form as soon as she saw us and spent a good five minutes shouting at Dominic about disappearing on them before she realised that he had something in his arms. “Oh my goddess,” she cried, with tears streaming down her face as Dominic hovered over her protectively as she held Aurora. Jonas and Lila soon joined us and I smiled as my family took turns to show love to the newest member before Doctor Greta finally said that mum and baby needed to be checked over. It was only then that Jonas noticed Logan, who was still in wolf form and had begun to follow us to the hospital. “Stand down, warrior,” Jonas called and Logan huffed at him. It was then that Jonas realised who this protective wolf was. His eyes widened, and he rushed to Logan and began to prod at him. I leaned into L
(Theia’s POV)I stopped in the middle of the woods and screamed all my pain and fear. I screamed and screamed until I had no more left in me. No more fear and no more pain. All that was left was the violent need to find my daughter. “Sky?” I called, and she stood to attention.“It’s time,” she said, and I set off running. I had no idea where I was running. Everything was on instinct. It was like the woods moved out of my way and everything seemed brighter all of a sudden. Then there was a singular flash of pain, but I didn’t stop. The only change that happened was that in that instant, I shed my human form and I was now on four paws running through the forest. I sniffed the air and immediately caught the scent that I hadn’t even realised that I had registered, but now I knew was the scent of my baby girl. I shifted my direction towards the scent and increased my speed. I didn’t even need to see to know where we were going. I just knew. An image of the beach flashed up in my mind and
(Theia’s POV)I paled at the voice and looked down at Logan in fear. He growled slightly at the voice, but then turned and pushed me gently towards the tunnel. I headed into the tunnels and was immediately blanketed in darkness. But I tried my best to feel along the walls and shuffle my feet along the floor. I could feel Logan right behind me, and part of me was glad that he could fit inside the tunnel in his new wolf form. I made my way through the tunnel too slow for my liking and was starting to panic, worried that there wasn’t another end. What if it had been closed up at the other end, like a cave in or something? What if I was going to get trapped in her forever? I knew that my thoughts were irrational, but that didn’t stop them plaguing me and heightening my fear. When another contraction came, I tried to muffle my screams but they still rang out through the tunnel and echoed over and over, mocking me in my fear. Just as I was starting to get really worried, I noticed a small
(Theia’s POV)I shrunk back from the door, and Liam just laughed at my response. He turned his attention towards Logan, and I could see Logan tense up from behind him. I couldn’t see his face, but I knew that he was holding a brave face. I hated that I was so useless and that he was now in danger because of me. “Hey squirt,” Liam said. “What do you plan on doing with that?” “Get the fuck out of here,” Logan snarled at him and held the knife out further. I saw him adjust his feet into what I assumed was a fight stance. Liam saw it too and raised an eyebrow. “Alex been training you, has he?” he said, “Yeah, I never got on with that chap. He was always sniffing around my girl.” My eyes widened a little and I couldn’t help but scoff.“Your girl?” I asked, “I think you lost the right to say that a long time ago.” “Ah sweetheart, just because I didn’t want her, didn’t mean I was going to let anyone else have her,” he said, “If I could I would have ripped Jake Blackthorn’s head off for d
(Theia’s POV)The room became a hub of activity as Dominic, Alex and a few of the high-ranking warriors began pouring over maps of the territory and mind linking with warriors on the ground. “Alpha,” one of the warriors called, and Dominic looked up, “They are swarming the south-west woods. We can’t get numbers. There seem to be over a hundred at least.” “That’s the residential area,” Leah said and Dominic growled.“I know where it is,” he snapped, his Alpha tone leaking out. Leah looked like she had been slapped.“Hey,” I said as I waddled up to Dominic, he looked at me like I was the last person he expected to see. “You gotta calm down. Then you can think straight.” I took hold of his hand and tried to mimic when I saw Lila calm Jonas down from a rant. Dominic closed his eyes and took a deep breath. I guess whatever I did was working. He opened his eyes again. The worry was still there, but he looked more in control of himself. He kissed my forehead and then looked over at Leah.“
(Theia’s POV)*** Four Months Later ***I laid in my bed, half dozing and half listening to Dominic, Leah and Alex talking. Being seven months pregnant was really taking its toll on my energy. Well, that and all the various different herbs and whatnots that I was on to help Sky suppress the urge to complete the transition. Doctor Greta, who had now become a permanent guest at the Sunset Rose pack, said that she was very impressed with my wolf being able to hold off for such a long time. Isabella hadn’t been able to visit, due to some issues going on for her, but she had a video conference with Greta about what she had given me and with more ideas for helping us. She did promise to visit soon, but cryptically said that it wasn’t time yet. Greta still hadn’t managed to get a hold of my old doctor. I even tried, and he seemed to have disappeared. Greta decided that she didn’t like the effects the medication could have on the baby, so we decided to work on more natural and magical routes
(Theia’s POV)I looked up at Doctor Greta, who was grinning.“It is, right?” I asked, and she nodded.“Why are you asking her,” my wolf scoffed, “I’m right here” I could almost feel her rolling her eyes. Could wolves roll their eyes? Well, I guess they couldn’t speak normally, so anything was possible.“Yes, I can definitely see the spikes on the charts,” the doctor said, and she showed me the screen, which showed where the line showing my brain activity shot up and back down again. “Say something,” I said.“I’m not a performing monkey, you know,” my wolf responded and the line on the screen shot up. I couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh my god, this is so strange,” I said.“Erm,” Dominic’s dad, Jonas, drew my attention to him, “What’s going on?” He and his wife were looking at me with weird looks on their faces. Leah, on the other hand, was grinning. “It appears that Theia’s wolf has made an appearance,” the doctor said, and I grinned. “No, it’s not possible,” Jonas said, “She is only a
