Chapter Two

ANA

"She is indeed lucky to have escaped that fire", "yes doctor, I heard nobody else survived" a voice said, this time it wasn't in my head, seems he was having a conversation with a lady.

I still couldn't open my eyes but then I felt a sharp pain on my arm, "Argh" I screamed, yes! that was the feeling of the one thing I hated in hospitals, needles! 

I couldn't stand the sharp pain of needles piercing my skin, I was about moving and shaking my body with the little strength I had so I can relieve myself of the pain. 

"No! don't move, try to stay still I'm administering your last dosage for the day, don't worry you will be fine",

 I heard the female voice again. My eyes gradually opened and i managed to let out words from my mouth, "wh-e-re am I?" 

"you are in the hospital dear, you were brought in by the rescue team from the fire outbreak that happened last night, what is your name"?. 

At that moment, I remembered how i was going to check if my sister was alive before i passed out. "My sister, Milda, where is my sister?"I asked

"You were the only one that survived the incident dear, the rescue team couldn't get the remains of everyone else in the fire, I'm sorry" 

I felt goosebumps all over my body, and tears rolling down my cheeks, the one and only family member I had in the entire world was gone, why didn't I just stay and die with her. 

"Oh, she is awake, hello! My name is Doctor Green, you don't have to cry, you are in safe hands", a tall dark man in his mid-forties smiled at me while he stretched out his hands to check the drip that was attached to my hand.

 "What's your name?" he asked "Ana" I replied.

 "Well, Ana I must say you are really lucky, you were the only survivor of the fire incident last night". 

But I didn't feel lucky, I felt like my whole world had crumbled. "Do you have any relatives we could call?" he asked, I shook my head and started crying.

"My sister" I said, "can we call her?" he asked, then i started crying, "she is d-e-a-d" I struggled to let out words from my mouth.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't know, don't worry you can stay here till you fully recover, we will take good care of you, you are in safe hands. I will ask the nurse to get you something to eat". 

Food was the last thing on my mind, I didn't feel like I was human anymore, I didn't need food, I needed my sister, alot was going on in my head, then I felt a warm wet liquid roll down my cheeks. I didn't know when I started crying.

Doctor Green looked at me with pity, "you will be fine, we are your family now and we will take care of you", he let out a weak smile and left the room.

"Hello Ana, I brought you some porridge, I'm sure you must be hungry. Oh dear! You need to stop crying, try to eat and rest so you can regain your strength. By the way, I never introduced myself to you, my name is Lina, you can call me Lin".

She smiled and tried to make me smile back but I only nodded my head. Lin turned to the little white drawer beside my bed and placed the food on it.

"I will leave this here just incase you wake up at night and feel hungry, do take care of yourself and stop crying please, if you need anything just click on the button beside the bed and I'll be here in no time" she smiled and left the room. 

The next day seemed like a busy day for Doctor Green since he only visited once to check on me. Lina was in my room the whole day, she tried to cheer me up by telling funny stories about her colleagues and how she loved her profession as a nurse.

While Lina was busy giving me some of her office tales, doctor Green walked in with a file. "You are strong enough to go now but we will be giving you some medications to the wounds heal faster" 

I left the hospital confused, I didn't know where to go to, I didn't know anyone anywhere. I sat on a long wooden chair closed to the hospital gate under a tree that had it dried leaves everywhere.

 "You are still here Ana" I heard doctor Green's voice from afar. "You can't stay here, come let's go home". I had no reply to what he said so I followed him like a lost puppy.

The drive home was long and silent, "you will have to stay with me for some time till you recover and decide on what to do".

The gates swung open and he drove into a very big space, "we're here, let's go Ana" he led the way and we went to the front door. Shortly after ringing the doorbell, a very beautiful light skinned lady opened the door, we went in and doctor Green introduced me to his wife as a stranded patient who needed help.

"She can't stay here Green, you have to let her leave tomorrow or I'll handle it" those were her words before she left the living room. 

I woke up the next day feeling a bit strong but with a heavy bang on my head, wait! It wasn't my head, that sound was coming from the door. 

I opened the door and saw doctor Green's angry wife standing like she was going to beat me up. "Throw her out" she instructed the gateman.

I was thrown out of the house that day with nothing on me, just the clothes I was wearing, had no where to go to so I started walking, the house was a lonely house inside the woods, I couldn't notice last night because everywhere was dark and the medications made me sober.

Why would someone leave so far away from town, as I walked I saw a truck parked on the road and quietly sat at the back, it was carrying just two heavy woods with a lot of ropes. 

I didnt know where this truck was going to but it was better to follow the truck than wait and stay for an angry woman to kill me.

We were on the road for three days, sometimes the driver would just pass the back of the truck to check his tyres but he never noticed me. I would freeze and stay close to the woods and cover myself with the pile of ropes in the truck.

"Who's in there?" "Who are you"? A deep voice asked, I started shaking and couldn't move, his voice became louder and his steps even louder.

 "Hmm, you look so innocent and pretty, come I won't bite" he said to me with lustful eyes. 

I quickly got out of the truck and ran towards the road but I got hit and fell to the ground, for some seconds I thought I was dead, then I felt blood touching my skin.
