Chapter Seven

KAEL

The drive back home was the most endearing I've had in a long while, I kept hearing her voice in my head while I stylishly smiled like a child who won a free candy.

I couldn't get her off my mind, the way she smiled, how words carefully left her beautiful lips. She's so beautiful and I'm so happy our paths crossed.

Kane my wolf felt it too, he kept howling and I'm pretty sure he would be wagging his tail if he was in control. How can just one person bring so much peace, I could remember how unhappy I'd been when I hadn't gotten a mate.

Reggie was the only one I had to share memories and experiences with. We did almost everything together and when I wanted to get intimate I just find a pretty wolf and made love to her without having any feelings.

It was my way of quenching every sexual desire I had in my head. But now I get to do all these with someone my entire body and soul longed for. I hope she feels the same way about me too.

While I drove I kept thinking about her nature and how my kind could not end up with a human like her. Suddenly, Kane became sad, it was obvious we were both in love with Roselle and we would do anything to keep her away from our pack.

"Are you sure your mum would let you leave the house when you get home, I mean you have been away for months after Reggie died. We will need to go see Roselle first thing in the morning" Kane said softly.

I could feel a little sadness in his tone, he misses her already. We both longed for her scent, that was the second human scent I have perceived.

For Kane, it was his first, because I was very little when my grandfather killed the human he saw in the forest and I hadn't gotten my wolf form yet. I was just 10 and it was just me, but I remembered the strong scent the male human carried.

When he was about to be killed, there was great fear in his eyes, I looked at his helpless eyes and wished I could save him but I couldn't.

My mum had to take me away from the scene when she noticed I wasn't comfortable. It was terrifying to watch, before my grandfather killed him, he shifted into his wolf form and started using his claws to scratch the human's skin.

He let out a loud cry and screamed till he lost strength and couldn't move. I can't imagine such a terrifying thing happening to Ana, I won't let it happen.

We drove by a lake that was a little bit far from the road, I couldn't go back home with a human's scent on me, anyone in my pack might sense it. Though the scent was mild, but even if anyone didn't notice my dad, the alpha would detect a human's scent from miles away.

I had to wash my body thoroughly and put on another cloth, I approached the lake and rigorously washed my body. I couldn't find any lighter to burn my clothes so I hid them in the bushes and wore new clothes. I dabbed on my cologne and hurriedly entered the car.

As I drove, we came close to the house and I could see some of the gardeners working on the trees and grasses outside the gate, as I approached the main gate I let out a deep breath.

The gate swung open and I was first greeted by the warriors outside.

"Welcome home young Alpha" they screamed with excitement while raising their hands as I drove in.

I slowly drove to my parking space and put the car to a halt. Got out and went into the house.

"Look who finally remembered his home" my dad said with despair. "Your mum is sleeping inside, she has been waiting all afternoon and she decided to take some rest before the moon comes out, she said she wouldn't go to bed until she sees you".

"I'll go see her as soon as she wakes up," I said with a smile

Then, I heard footsteps coming down the stairs, the sound of her shoes as she hit the staircase grew louder. "Why would a son abandon his own mother, Kael so you could live without me and not be fazed" my mum said with a sad face while stretching both hands to get a hug.

I hurriedly reached for her, wrapping myself around her, enveloping in warmth and comfort, her soft curve fit snugly into my embrace reminding me I was home.

My mum has always been there for me, always reminding me I'm human and can be vulnerable.

"Even your dad gets soft but would hardly make anyone notice. Don't let him and your uncle put too much pressure on you becoming an alpha, you still have a long way to go. And besides, the Alpha is still alive and isn't leaving anytime soon".

"Meet me in my office Kael, we need to talk now," my dad said walking towards his office.

I kissed my mum on her forehead and followed him.

"Haven't you learnt anything from me yet, why would you just disappear like that without letting anyone know your whereabouts, not even me or your mother? You just abandoned a pack that you would lead in a few years to come. How can I be assured you would keep the pack safe when I'm gone? This was a very stupid decision Kael."

My dad said looking straight at me with his deep stern voice while my head was lowered to the floor like I was counting air particles.

"I'm sorry Dad, I couldn't help it when I lost Reggie so I needed some time to clear my head" I said with a low tone.

"What you should be thinking of is how to take care of those bastards that killed your best friend and not going for some vacations and whinning like a child who was denied candy, I told your dad already, he is too soft on you. I can't believe a young Alpha can be as soft as a woman" my uncle said loudly while walking into my dad's office.

Uncle Cyrus is my dad's elder and was next in line to be Alpha when my grandfather passed but he was given an extraordinary gift by the spirits which came with a terrible cost.

He could communicate with the spirits but each time he used this gift, he lost a piece of his soul and his darkness grew stronger.

He left the pack to be alone in the forest and only visited on rare occasions.

"Hello brother," my dad said calmly, looking at his brother who stared at me with full disappointment on his face.

"I hope you know there is someone who can perfectly fit the Alpha role if you don't want it". Uncle Cyrus said to me.
