“Hi Drake…” Ava spoke between bites the moment the call connected, much too Cade’s amusement.
“Hi Mom…” The caller replied, Cade’s tense body sagging in relief, he had thought that the caller was a partner…
Forcing himself to discreetly listen to the conversation, giving the impression he was giving her privacy, when in fact he was doing the opposite, genuinely interested in hearing her talk with her son.
“Why are you calling…?” Ava asked, getting straight to the point.
“Jeez…can’t a son just call his mother for no reason?” Drake asked, his tone somewhat sarcastic.
“Love you …” Ava responded instead, taking another bite of her burger, moaning discreetly, “So…why are you calling?”
“Love you too, was wondering how things were going with getting your new car.” Drake replied rather grumpily
Rolling her eyes, “I am happy that you care, but to set your mind at ease, everything is going well…” She answered, taking a sip of her juice.
“That is good…” Drake began, “Where are you by the way?” He cut off midsentence, “It’s too noisy in the background to be a dealership!”
“Since the paperwork is still being processed and I was hungry…” She trailed off and continued to eat, knowing her son would figure it out, she did not need to explain further or elaborate.
“God…sometimes I wonder where you put it all!” Drake complained, having realized where his mother was.
“I eventually work it off…!” She argued, feeling slightly offended, but still continuing to munch away.
Hearing Ava’s exclamation, Cade muffled a laugh with a cough, actually enjoying the bantering and interaction she was having with her son, it told him that she had a close relationship with her kid.
Which brought an unsettling thought to his mind, his gaze automatically going to her left hand, looking for the evidence of a ring, that would signify that she was taken, but then again in today’s day and age not everyone was married.
His thoughts turning depressive, his wolf whimpering in the background, would fate be so cruel as to present him with his fated mate, only to yank it away, had he not suffered long enough, was it not time that he finally found some peace and happiness…
Shaking himself from his depressing foul mood, he tuned in back to the conversation, hoping to find out more about his destined mate.
“Well, how soon will you have the car on the road, because I don’t want you to drive back during peak hours, especially with a new vehicle, I would rather you stayed at a RnB overnight, than drive back late in heavy traffic.” Drake continued.
“Love you…” Ava again responded, “And, yes…I will see the time, if it gets too late, then I will make alternative arrangements.” Knowing how her children worried about her newly acquired driving skills, since she only recently got her drivers, having been too dependent in the past on her ex to get around.
“Good, so let me know what the plans are later.” Drake replied, “I have to go now, got an online meeting in a few minutes, please stay safe…”
“Bye and ditto…” She replied, her son switching off on his end immediately after hearing her response.
Feeling a bit awkward, “Kids…!” She mumbled sheepishly, “Sometimes they are too much and other times you just want to squeeze them to bits…”
Locking gazes with her, “So, you have a son…?” Cade queried, rather interested in knowing more about Ava.
Blushing at his intense gaze, “Two actually…” She responded, taking another sip of her juice, more for breaking the intense atmosphere surrounding them, licking her lips nervously.
However, before either could carry on with their questioning, Ava’s phone again rang, making her groan in frustration as she glared at the caller Id, mumbling under her breath incoherently as she answered, mouthing an apology to Cade for the interruption and putting the call again on speaker.
“Yes I am eating, no I don’t have any news yet and all is okay.” She spoke, before the other person could ask, rolling her eyes at an amused Cade as he watched her answer the call rather directly and rudely.
The other person laughed, “I am guessing Drake already called…?” The caller asked.
“Yep…just a few moments ago.” Ava replied, popping a chip into her mouth.
“You know how he is, he is always worried about you.” The caller spoke.
“I know and I love the idea that he cares, it just makes me feel like a kid.” Ava complained.
“Mom…we are always going to worry about you, so suck it up.” The caller responded firmly, finally giving Cade an indication on who was calling, “Besides, we know you love the attention we give you and we all know that you are a hog when it comes to food, so that is no surprise...”
Sticking her tongue out in a child like fashion, “You can be so mean sometimes Cody, but rest assured I am eating in moderation…” Frowning as she heard her son scoff in the background and then glaring at Cade as he tried to stifle a laugh, pouting when she knew that they were seeing right through her innocent remark.
“Anyways…I’ll want the lowdown on things when you finally come right, you know me, I don’t need to know everything, just the basics.” Cody continued, “I know how Drake can be dramatic and worrisome, so let me know how you are doing later.”
“Will do so.” Ava responded, “Luv you.”
“Love you too Mom, talk to you tonight.” Cody replied, also switching off at his end.
A few seconds of silence followed the call, Ava squirming under Cade’s intense gaze, shifting slightly in her chair, her tongue flicking out nervously, as she tried to figure a way to resume their conversation.
Cade had been so fixated on her lips, he had lost his train of thought, barely remembering where they had last stopped their conversation…
Groaning internally, he tried hard to focus on their conversation before the call, watching with lust as her tongue flicked out,, “And their father…?” He queried, finally remembering what he needed to ask, unashamed that he was asking a direct question, he wasn’t about to poach on some other man’s land, so he would rather know upfront if she was single or not.
“Ran off…!” Ava responded curtly, not really wanting to go into to detail, needing to change the subject, she decided to turn the questions onto Cade, “And what about you? Single, married, committed, any kids…?” She fired off, getting straight to the point.
“Two kids, twins in fact, boy and girl.” Cade responded, a smirk on his face, liking that Ava wasn’t scared to question him or be direct or the fact that she might be single, “As for my status, currently single and more than interested…”
His gaze intent on her, Ava blushed, heat rising in her body, she would not openly admit to him right away, that perhaps she was attracted to him in more ways than one.
Cade noticed that Ava was slightly flushed and flustered, wanting her to be at ease, he decided that he didn’t want to push her too soon or too fast, he had the basic information that he needed, now he just had to be patient and get closer to his mate.
His mind already thinking of ways of keeping her nearby, so with that, he changed the subject, letting the conversation flow casually, choosing neutral topics that both of them could handle without any emotional stress.
Cade had to admit, as time passed and he watched Ava discreetly, that she was definitely unique and special, for the first time he was able to have a decent conversation with a woman, even though she his mate, fated to fit each other in all aspects, again he was grateful, that the fates had chosen well.
Watching as she enjoyed her meal and he was yet to be bored in her company, they seemed to have similar tastes in a variety of topics.
Moreover, it was highly entertaining to debate on different viewpoints, Ava was passionate in what she talked about and he loved seeing how her eyes sparkled with excitement as she spoke animatedly over any subject.
But, on the other hand and though somewhat slightly uncomfortable, he was sporting a major hard-on from the moment he set eyes on her and his wolf declared her as his mate, grateful that the table hid away his more than obvious tight fitting pants, instinct telling him that whenever he was going to be in her presence it was going to be a guaranteed constant of being hard…
Having finally finished her main meal, Ava leaned back and sighed in satisfaction, patting her stomach, “That was worth it…” She spoke, a smile on her face, then frowning as she looked at her fingernails, “Though I do need to quickly go to the ladies…” She apologized, wanting to clean her hands properly, despite using the wet cloth provided, her hands still felt sticky.
Forcing herself up and making her way to the ladies room.
However, on the way there, something caught her eye and she spoke to Gloria, a satisfied smile on her face once she placed her order, then making her way to bathroom…
For Cade, he could not stop staring at Ava, his gaze following her every move, the sexy sway of her hips and ass, just making him drool.
He was seriously in deep trouble, if he could not claim her…
Ava returned to their table, her smile widening as Gloria approached the moment she had taken her seat and placing the dessert in front of her.“Thank you soooo much…!” Ava drawled out, taking a bite of the gooey chocolate fudge cake, moaning yet again, seriously she was in heaven. Her manners abandoning her the moment her gaze had landed on the sweet treat, barely acknowledging anyone around her, living in her own fantasy world…Surprised and stunned, Cade could only look on, as Ava devoured the dessert
Having unfortunately reached their destination, Cade helped Ava off his bike and again placed his hand on her lower back, it seemed that he was looking for all kinds of reasons to touch her in some form or other. As they entered the dealership, Vanessa was in an instant beside them, a smile on her face, as she hooked her arm with Ava’s “So, how was lunch?” She asked, guiding Ava towards her desk, leaving Cade behind.“It was great, thank you.” Ava replied, looking back over her shoulder, seeing that Matt had stopped Cade at the entrance, her body feeling the loss of not having him near or touching her, a small frown
At quarter to six that evening, Cade was pitching up at his brother’s place uninvited, he had spent most of the afternoon driving around, calming himself down. Then he had gotten to his place, taken a shower, got ready and made his way to Matt’s home.Knocking on the door, only to frown as his younger brother, Luke, stood before him, a shit-eating irritating grin on his face, “Say just one word….” Cade threatened, “And I will knock that smile off your face!” Using his large frame to shove his brother aside and entering the house.
Ava had been introduced to the kids earlier on, when she had arrived at Vanessa’s home.First, there was Vanessa and Matt’s kids, a boy and a girl, aged nine and six, the girl being the youngest. Then, she met Luke, Sasha, and their kids, apparently they had been married longer, they had two boys, the oldest being thirteen and the youngest nine and Luke was Cade’s youngest brother.Vanessa had informed Ava, that Cade’s kids were older, already eighteen and that soon they were leaving for college.
Ava gasped, as Cade brushed his lips against hers, her mouth parting, giving him the opportunity to deepen their kiss, pulling her body flush against his.Molding his lips to hers, his tongue dueling with hers, his large body pressing her back into the luxurious lounger cushions, his hand slipping down her body and under the hem of her top, caressing the luscious curves of her body.Ava could only hold on to his broad shoulders, moaning as his hand drifted up her stomach, over her ribs, then stopping between the shallow valley of her breasts, his forefinger lightly grazing the underside of her breast, teasing and taunting her.
The following morning, Cade made his way to Ava’s room, cup of coffee in his hand, a smile on his face. The previous evening had gone well, after dessert, the adults had lingered for a while, then Luke and his family left soon afterwards. He had decided to stay overnight in one of the guest rooms, there was no reason to rush home, especially if his kids were staying over at friends and he rather liked the idea of being near Ava and to be able to see her first thing in the morning.Knocking on her door lightly, he waited a
Whilst Ava had gotten ready, Cade had googled for any store that sold specialty chocolate, that was between his brother’s house and the dealership, that way he could stop on the way as promised and buy some chocolate, after all he didn’t want to disappoint his mate so soon in their relationship. After breakfast, they had gotten into Cade’s truck, he had come by vehicle the previous evening, leaving his Harley at home.Happy and content, as he watched with amusement, as Ava devoured the chocolate he had bought.
Cade had barely reached Matt’s office, when he gets a call, looking at the caller ID, he frowns and looks back at Vanessa, who is staring directly at him, pressing the answer button, “You better get here quick…” Was the only thing that Vanessa said before he could even say a word?Confused, he walked back to her, “What the hell is going on…?” He asked Vanessa, stopping at her desk, noting that Ava wasn’t nearby, his eyes scanning the area, finally landing on her small form standing to the far side.“Ava just received some bad news…” Vanessa explained, “And I don’t th
Cade stood at the altar, a smile on his face, as he watched his mate walk down the aisle towards him.Her cream-colored empire wedding dress accentuating her beauty.A lacy fitted bodice skimming her full breasts, dipping into a V at the front, a wide sash just beneath her bust, then chiffon flowing down towards the ground, her feet covered in dainty ballet shoes. Her hair flowing freely behind in silken waves, only a simple halo of flowers on her head.Ava had wanted to keep things simple and didn’t want to draw too much attention. But, the cat was out of the bag, as he grinned at his mate, his smile widening as she rolled her eyes at him, a quirky smile on her lips.He could only chuckle, as his gaze skimmed down, landing on her small protruding belly, both him and his wolf puffing up in pride and arrogance, knowing that they were still highly fertile and virile.Their mate was pregnant. For a brief moment, he wan
It was the grating sound, like nails along a chalkboard, which woke Ava up, chilling her to the bone, she had been in and out of it for a while.Since her capture, a sense of time had evaded her mind, unsure of where or how she got here or even how long she had been in this place. Here, being a dark and danky place, the smell of mildew surrounding her.She was unable to move, having noted during her waking moments, that she was tightly tied down, her hands tied behind her back, her feet apart, the rope firmly tying them around the chair’s legs.Another rope tied around her waist, keeping her upright in her seat. Her head ached, especially at the back, the memories crashing into her conscience, as she remembered bits and pieces, of how she had gotten into this dire situation. The first emotion being anger, as she lifted her head and gazed at the monster before her, the one who had put her in this predicament, the one who had falsely thr
Cade hightailed it too the designated location, mindless of the speed he was travelling. His brother’s tone and a sense of foreboding urging for him to get there as soon as possible. The address given by his brother was an old abandoned motel, just a few miles north of where Ava’s hometown was, it had taken him just under thirty minutes to get there, would have been more if he had been driving a car, but since he had his bike, he could easily zip in and out of traffic.Stopping beside his brother’s truck, Cade took off his helmet, taking in the surrounding area, it was a little bit off the beaten track, slightly tucked away, the tropical growth starting to take over, camouflaging the abandoned building, anyone passing on the main road, would not have known that this was here.“Matt…” He called out, wondering where they were as he made his way towards the building, surely they would have heard him, it’s not like h
In the early hours of the next morning, while Ava slept peacefully, Cade had gone over the previous day’s events. The barbeque had gone off without a hitch, it had been a success, despite the issue of the threat hovering in the background or Ava’s sister surly mood.Everyone had retreated to their homes, with promise of meeting up again often. The two dogs still had to be taken by his brothers, Cade didn’t want any distractions, especially since his ex was still out there, nobody had been able to find her, the tech guys were working their butt off trying to ping an exact location, tracking her phone, but each time they got close, it seemed to escape their grasp at the last second and go off the radar.Even his trackers had reached a dead end, the scent on the note had taken them round and round, like a merry-go-round, it was like someone had dropped the note from above. If he believed his ex could fly, he would have thought that s
“Finally…” Matt teased, entering Ava’s home a few hours later, “Was wondering when you guys were coming up for air.”“Hush…” Vanessa, his wife scolded, “You are no better, given the opportunity.”Matt grinned at his wife, “True…” Agreeing with her.The Hunter clan all filed in, adults and kids, filling Ava’s home with laughter and noise.Ava was introduced to Cade’s kids first, she was nervous, but they seemed to genuinely accept her place in their Dad’s life, both embracing her whole-heartedly.Then his parents were introduced, they had come down with Luke and his family.Ava had also invited her parents and her sister, her parents had gotten on well with everybody at the first introduction.Though her sister, Claire was a different issue, she stood apart, watching proceedings with a slight upward tilt to her nose.Ava and
After having taken care of her needs, Ava sat back contently in Cade’s embrace. He had explained everything on what had happened while she had been out, as well as explain to her the transformation that had happened once he had marked her.Of course, there would be more questions, but at that moment, she just wanted to savor the feel of having his arms around her, her body lax and content. They had moved outdoors, laying in the large hammock, under the shade of a large tree, each enjoying the peace and quiet.Even if it would only be temporarily, both knowing that a threat still lurked nearby.Cade held Ava in his embrace, her head on his chest, his hand stroking her back absentmindedly, ““You know, I would like for you to meet the rest of my family...especially my kids.” He began, might as well get this over with, his kids had been nagging to meet Ava from the get go…but he had been reluctant, wanting first to form a
Satisfaction coursed through Cade, his wolf retreating to the back of his mind, curling up contently, happy in the knowledge that they had finally marked their mate.Cade gazed tenderly at his mate, as she lay lax against his chest, it was natural with the marking, for the mate to black out, it would take a couple of hours before she woke up, nature’s way of getting to work, her body preparing for the transformation, especially since she was a human. If she had been a werewolf, the time would have been shortened by half, the only difference between a werewolf female and a human, was that the werewolf only required the change of status, whereas a human not only went through the status of her werewolf partner, but her body was also gaining some of the werewolf qualities required to complete the transformation.Contently he gazed at his mark, only other werewolves would be able to see it, the human eye would be unable to detect it.Currently it looked
Stunned, Cade could only stare at Ava, barely moving, barely taking a breath, worried that if he moved, that whatever he thought he might have heard, be only in his imagination, in his dreams... Feeling somewhat embarrassed and out of her element, Ava was wondering if she was mistaken, that perhaps Cade was having second thoughts, his stillness and silence stretching into a uncomfortable length, the seconds, minutes ticking by since her declaration. Having lost patience at the continued silence, Ava decided in that moment, that it was either better to tuck in her tail and run or fight, perhaps she was wrong, that all of this was not worth the stress and grief, she was currently suffering. “Well…apparently I was wrong, clearly all the hogwash about wanting me, loving me, marking me was all bullshit!” She lashed out in anger, reverting to her protective shell, it was either fight or flight and since she was tired of running, she decided to stand her ground, she
“So what do we do now?” Ava asked, her sweet voice penetrating his rage-fuelled mind. Those who knew him would know that Ava was his true mate, only a true mate would be able to calm the beast within. “Well, it depends, on what is decided in the next few moments, we can carry on where we were last at, before we were rudely interrupted or we confront the elephant in the room, in this case…Sharon.” He answered, hoping that they could continue on the former, rather than the latter. Typical…men all around the universe only thought with one head at a time, always guaranteed to be the one below their belt, huffing in frustration, crossing her arms, she glared at Cade, “I was querying about your ex…!” She elaborated, getting to the point. Muttering under his breath, “There is nothing we can do, until Sharon is found and brought to justice, we will stay here, under the protection of the guards, my brothers will notify me immediately of any news or findings.”
