"You should rest." I said, my voice embarrassingly breathless. "Probably." he agreed, but made no move to put distance between us. "You're trembling." "I'm tired. It's been a long night." I lied, my voice lacking conviction. "Liar." His free hand came up, brushing a strand of hair from my face. The gesture was surprisingly gentle, at odds with the raw intensity in his eyes. "Your heart's racing. I can hear it." ~ When the fierce Alpha wolf Roman Blackthorn shows up injured at her doorstep, village healer Mirabelle's life turns upside down. She's forced to join his pack as their healer, and honestly? She can't stand him. He's arrogant, dangerous, and infuriatingly attractive. As threats close in from all sides, Mirabelle and Roman find themselves drawn to each other, despite their best efforts to keep their distance. Can they survive each other long enough to face the real threat?

ROMAN______I should have fucking known it was a trap. The forest was too quiet, the air too still, like nature itself was holding its breath in anticipation of the bloodshed to come. The ancient pines loomed overhead, their branches casting twisted shadows in the waning daylight. Even my wolf, usually a constant presence in my mind— strong, assured, and steady— was restless, pacing with nervous energy that made my skin crawl. But I was too proud, too damn sure of myself to listen to those warning signs. Too caught up in my own reputation as the undefeated Alpha of the Black Moon Pack to consider that someone might have finally outmaneuvered me. That's always been my problem— pride. I really wanted to like this book but it was kind of messy. Gaps in the storyline, characters dying multiple times, etc. It has potential, but not a strong story..

We crashed through the underbrush, a tangle of claws and teeth. His jaws snapped inches from my throat, and I barely managed to get my arm up in time. Pain exploded through my body as his teeth sank into my flesh, tearing through muscle and scraping bone."Fuck!" I roared, driving my knee into his stomach. The hit connected, and he loosened his grip enough for me to throw him off, but the damage was done. Blood poured from the wound, weakening me with each passing second. But Cassandra was there, and the knife in her hand gleamed with something more than moonlight. Wolfsbane.... The poison that could bring even an Alpha to his knees, the great equalizer in our world. The sight of it made my wolf recoil in terror."Your sister knew you'd fail," she taunted, circling me like a predator toying with its prey. "She saw what you really are— weak, arrogant, unfit to lead. That's why she left, you know. She couldn't stand watching you destroy everything your parents built."Her words cut d

MIRABELLE________The night brought him to me like a dark omen.I was elbow-deep in herbs when Sarah burst through my cottage door, her face flushed with panic. "Belle! We need you at the north gate. There's.... there's a man. He's badly wounded."I didn't waste time asking questions. Grabbing my medical bag, I followed her into the darkness, my boots crunching against the frost-covered ground. The bitter wind bit at my face, but I barely noticed. My mind was already running through possibilities, cataloging the supplies I might need. The crowd at the gate parted for me like water. They knew better than to get between a healer and her patient. And then I saw him.Holy shit....He was massive, easily over six feet of pure muscle, even sprawled unconscious in the mud. Blood matted his dark hair and stained his torn shirt, which did little to hide the devastating injuries underneath. But what caught my attention wasn't the wounds – it was the raw power emanating from him, even uncons

His eyes narrowed, but he stayed still as I resumed cleaning his wounds. The tension in the room was thick enough to cut with a knife. I could feel the heat radiating from his skin, far hotter than any human's should be. His muscles rippled under my touch, and I cursed my traitorous body for noticing."You're not afraid," he observed after a few minutes of tense silence."I'm terrified," I corrected, not looking up from my work. "But you're not the first dangerous creature I've treated, and fear won't stop these wounds from killing you."He grabbed my wrist, his grip firm but not painful. "Look at me."I did, meeting those golden eyes that seemed to see right through me. Up close, I could see flecks of amber in them, like captured flames."What's your name?" he demanded.I hesitantly answered, "Mirabelle. Most people call me Belle.""Belle," he repeated, like he was tasting the word. "I'm Roman Blackthorn, Alpha of the Shadowfang pack. And you, little healer, are either very brave or

Dawn was creeping through my windows when Roman started thrashing again. I jolted awake from my chair, nearly knocking over my cup of cold tea. His skin was burning up, even by werewolf standards, and sweat soaked the sheets beneath him. The sight of him— a man so powerful, so utterly in control— reduced to this state sent a sharp pang through my chest for some reason. "Shit.." I muttered, pressing my palm to his forehead. The heat practically scorched my skin. Whatever poison they'd used, his body was still fighting it, and losing. His breath came in shallow, uneven gasps, his jaw tight even in unconsciousness. I grabbed fresh cloths and my basin of cool water, trying to bring his temperature down. As I wiped his chest, his muscles tensed under my touch, his entire body coiled tight even while unconscious. Werewolves were always like this— predatory, even when vulnerable. I tried not to notice how my fingers trembled slightly against his burning skin. It wasn't fear, though.

Memories of blood and fire flickered at the edges of my mind, but I shoved them back into the box where I kept them locked away. "Let's just say I've seen what werewolves can do to a village when they’re feeling territorial." "Ah.." His tone softened slightly, losing some of its usual sharpness. "We're not all monsters you know." "No?" I turned to face him, the freshly mixed poultice in my hands. "Then what are you? " His lips curved into a faint, humorless smile. "Complicated." "That's one word for it," I muttered, kneeling beside the bed. "This is going to sting like a bitch." "Such language from a proper village healer," he teased, though his smirk faltered when I pressed the poultice to the first wound. "Fuck!" "I warned you." I tried to be gentle, but the wounds were deep, and the poison had left the surrounding skin inflamed and tender. "So, are you going to tell me what happened? What kind of wolves use poison?" His jaw tightened, the muscles in his neck standing out in

I watched Mirabelle squirm in her seat as the village elders deliberated, her back impossibly straight as if sheer posture could hold her together. The candlelight caught the flecks of gold in her brown eyes, making them spark with defiance even as she tried to maintain a calm exterior. Her hands were folded tightly in her lap, knuckles white, and her lips pressed into a thin line. Her scent— lavender and herbs, mixed with a hint of fear she couldn’t quite hide— filled my nostrils. It was intoxicating, though I'd never admit it aloud. She was trying so hard to appear unshaken, but even I could see the cracks in her armor."This is bullshit." I muttered, loud enough for her to hear. The wound in my side still ached, sending flashes of pain through my ribs with every deep breath, but it was a dull ache compared to the smoldering anger I felt toward these pompous elders. Their self-righteous deliberation was dragging on far too long, and I could feel the tension radiating off of Mira

"When do we leave?" she asked quietly, her voice devoid of its usual fire."Tomorrow at dawn," I answered, my tone softer than I intended. "Pack light. It's a three-day ride to Shadowfang."The meeting dispersed, the elders shuffling out one by one, leaving Belle and me alone in the candlelit room. She sat rigid in her chair, staring at the table as if it held all the answers to her unspoken questions. I lingered by the door, watching her. "This isn't personal," I said after a moment, surprising even myself with the need to explain. "You saved my life. I'm returning the favor.""By forcing me from my home?!" she shot back, her voice trembling with barely restrained emotion. She finally looked up at me, and the pain in her eyes hit me like a physical blow. "Some favor."I crossed the room in two long strides, leaning down until we were eye level. "Would you prefer I leave you to Cassandra's mercy?" I asked, my voice low and dangerous. "Because I promise you, little healer, she has non

MIRABELLE_______I woke before dawn with a knot in my stomach. The room I'd called home for years felt foreign now, filled with half-packed bags and the weight of impending departure. Last night's confrontation with Roman still burned in my mind — his arrogance, his touch, the way he'd crowded my space like he owned it. Like he owned.... me. "Fucking werewolves," I muttered, shoving another handful of herbs into my satchel. "I heard that." I spun around to find Roman leaning against my doorframe, arms crossed over his chest. Even injured, he moved like a predator - silent and deadly. The morning light caught his golden eyes, making them glow with an otherworldly intensity. "Ever heard of knocking?" I snapped, trying to calm my racing heart. He smirked. "Your heart's racing, little healer. Nervous?" "Go to hell..." "You know," he pushed off the doorframe and stalked toward me, "most people would show more respect to the Alpha protecting them." I stood my ground as he approac

Roman was waiting outside, his expression unreadable as he watched me wipe away tears. About an hour or so later, I stood in the village square with my meager belongings. Roman's pack surrounded us — twenty warriors, all watching me with varying degrees of suspicion and curiosity. "Mount up." Roman barked, leading a dappled mare to my side. "She's gentle enough, for a beginner." I swung into the saddle with practiced ease, enjoying the surprise on his face. "What can I say? I'm full of surprises, Alpha." He chuckled darkly. "So I'm learning." The first few hours of the journey passed in tense silence. I rode between two warriors - Elijah, Roman's Beta, and a fierce-looking woman I learned was named Lila, who seemed to take personal offense at my existence. "Keep up human," Lila suddenly sneered as my horse slowed to navigate a rough patch of trail. "Screw off wolf," I muttered through clenched teeth. She wheeled her horse around, eyes flashing gold. "What did you say?" "You
