"When do we leave?" she asked quietly, her voice devoid of its usual fire.

"Tomorrow at dawn," I answered, my tone softer than I intended. "Pack light. It's a three-day ride to Shadowfang."

The meeting dispersed, the elders shuffling out one by one, leaving Belle and me alone in the candlelit room. She sat rigid in her chair, staring at the table as if it held all the answers to her unspoken questions. I lingered by the door, watching her.

"This isn't personal," I said after a moment, surprising even myself with the need to explain. "You saved my life. I'm returning the favor."

"By forcing me from my home?!" she shot back, her voice trembling with barely restrained emotion. She finally looked up at me, and the pain in her eyes hit me like a physical blow. "Some favor."

I crossed the room in two long strides, leaning down until we were eye level. "Would you prefer I leave you to Cassandra's mercy?" I asked, my voice low and dangerous. "Because I promise you, little healer, she has non

MIRABELLE_______I woke before dawn with a knot in my stomach. The room I'd called home for years felt foreign now, filled with half-packed bags and the weight of impending departure. Last night's confrontation with Roman still burned in my mind — his arrogance, his touch, the way he'd crowded my space like he owned it. Like he owned.... me. "Fucking werewolves," I muttered, shoving another handful of herbs into my satchel. "I heard that." I spun around to find Roman leaning against my doorframe, arms crossed over his chest. Even injured, he moved like a predator - silent and deadly. The morning light caught his golden eyes, making them glow with an otherworldly intensity. "Ever heard of knocking?" I snapped, trying to calm my racing heart. He smirked. "Your heart's racing, little healer. Nervous?" "Go to hell..." "You know," he pushed off the doorframe and stalked toward me, "most people would show more respect to the Alpha protecting them." I stood my ground as he approac

Roman was waiting outside, his expression unreadable as he watched me wipe away tears. About an hour or so later, I stood in the village square with my meager belongings. Roman's pack surrounded us — twenty warriors, all watching me with varying degrees of suspicion and curiosity. "Mount up." Roman barked, leading a dappled mare to my side. "She's gentle enough, for a beginner." I swung into the saddle with practiced ease, enjoying the surprise on his face. "What can I say? I'm full of surprises, Alpha." He chuckled darkly. "So I'm learning." The first few hours of the journey passed in tense silence. I rode between two warriors - Elijah, Roman's Beta, and a fierce-looking woman I learned was named Lila, who seemed to take personal offense at my existence. "Keep up human," Lila suddenly sneered as my horse slowed to navigate a rough patch of trail. "Screw off wolf," I muttered through clenched teeth. She wheeled her horse around, eyes flashing gold. "What did you say?" "You

The journey to the pack grounds had been tense and exhausting. After three days of hard riding, my thighs were raw and my back ached fiercely. Roman kept us moving at a punishing pace, only stopping when absolutely necessary. Every time I complained, he'd scan the treeline with those unnaturally golden eyes and mutter something about 'staying ahead of them.' We arrived at the temporary camp just before sunset on the third day. I nearly fell off my horse, but Roman was there instantly, his strong hands steadying me. "Easy," he murmured, and for a moment his touch was almost gentle. Then his expression hardened again. "Elijah, get her settled. The rest of you, perimeter check." The camp was larger than I expected – maybe thirty wolves in total. They moved with practiced efficiency, setting up tents and organizing watches. I noticed how they gave me a wide berth, their eyes curious but wary. Elijah led me to a small tent near the center of camp. "It's not much," he said apologeti

"It looks like a prison." I said before I could stop myself. To my surprise, he laughed. "For some of us, it is." At my alarmed look, he added, "Not literally. But being part of a pack.... it comes with chains of its own." "Is that why you stay? Obligation?" Elijah's expression turned serious. "I stay because Roman is a good Alpha, despite what you might think. He's made mistakes, but he's trying to build something better here." "By kidnapping healers?" "By protecting those who need it." He gave me a pointed look. "Even when they don't want to be protected." Before I could respond, Roman's voice rang out. "Gates!" The massive iron gates creaked open, and we rode into a courtyard filled with more wolves. The air was thick with tension as they caught my scent. Roman dismounted and strode to my horse, reaching up to help me down. His hands lingered on my waist a moment too long. "Welcome to Shadowfang," he said quietly. A tall, elegant woman pushed through the crowd

ROMAN______I couldn't sleep. Again. The same fucking nightmares kept haunting me, replaying like a broken record in my head. Iris's betrayal, my mother's death, the weight of all my failures crushing me until I could barely breathe.. I paced my chambers like a caged animal, my bare feet silent against the cold stone floor, the sharp chill of the stone doing little to ground me. Shadows crowded the corners of the room, flickering with the faint light of the dying fire, but they felt like they were closing in on me. Suffocating me. The fortress was quiet at this hour, most of my pack sleeping soundly while I wrestled with my demons. Only the occasional howl from the forest beyond the walls broke the silence, the sounds of my kind haunting in their own way. I should have been comforted by it, reassured by the strength of the pack I'd built, but instead, it felt like a reminder of how far I'd fallen. How much blood it had taken to get here. But there was one other person I kn

This time, she did look up, her green eyes flashing with that fire I'd come to expect from her. "And yet here you are, seeking me out in the middle of the night instead of sleeping like a normal person."Her words hit too close to home, and I felt my carefully constructed walls starting to crack. "Who says I was seeking you out?""Please," she scoffed, setting down her mortar with more force than necessary. "You've been haunting this infirmary for the past three nights. I'm not blind Roman."The way she said my name, without any title or deference, sent an unexpected shiver down my spine. I moved closer, telling myself it was to intimidate her, but we both knew that wasn't the whole truth. "You don't know what you're talking about," I growled, but my voice lacked its usual bite.Belle straightened, her chin tilting up in challenge. "I know what guilt looks like," she said softly. "I see it in your eyes every time you look at your injured warriors. Every time you think about your sist

MIRABELLE ________ My conversation with Kieran started innocently enough. I was organizing herbs in the infirmary when he appeared in the doorway, his silver hair catching the late afternoon light. Kieran was the pack's prophet, a man as enigmatic as he was infuriating, mysterious. Whispers about him were as common as the wind in the trees— some said he'd been alive for centuries, kept young by ancient wolf magic. Others thought he was cursed, trapped between the mortal world and some darker realm. All I knew for sure was that the old man always seemed to know more than he should, and he had a way of getting under my skin— just like pretty much everyone there. "You're different," he said without preamble. "You've noticed it, haven't you?" I paused, a bundle of lavender suspended mid-air. "What are you talking about?" He stepped into the room, closing the door behind him. Something in his expression made my stomach tighten. "Your healing abilities. They're getting stron

"What the hell are you doing out here alone?"I didn't need to turn around to know it was Roman. His deep voice sent an involuntary shiver down my spine, though I blamed it on the cold."I wasn't aware I needed your permission to take a walk." I shot back, continuing my path along the stone walkway.Heavy footsteps followed, and suddenly he was in front of me, blocking my way. The moonlight cast shadows across his face, making his golden eyes seem to glow. He was wearing a black shirt that did nothing to hide the muscles underneath, and I forced myself to look away."Cut the shit Belle," he growled. "You're hiding something. I can smell your anxiety from across the fortress.""Fuck off with your wolf senses," I snapped, trying to step around him. He moved with me, maintaining the blockade. "And stop calling me Belle!"A dangerous smirk played at his lips. "Why? Does it bother you?""Everything about you bothers me."He stepped closer, and I instinctively backed up until I felt the col

Six months had passed since the final battle, since we'd driven Cassandra into exile and brought peace to Shadowfang. Sometimes it still felt surreal, like a dream I might wake from at any moment.I touched the silver necklace at my throat, the one that had belonged to my mother, then Adelne. Though the pain of losing my sister would never fully fade, I'd learned to carry it differently now. The weight of it had transformed from a burden into a reminder of why we fought so hard for peace."There you are." Roman's deep voice came from behind me. Even now, after all these months together, his presence still sent a shiver down my spine.I turned to face him, drinking in the sight of him. He'd foregone his usual battle-ready attire for something softer, a simple black shirt that clung to his muscled chest and dark pants. His dark hair was

"It's beautiful." I breathed, leaning against him as we stood among the moonlit flowers. "Stay with me." Roman said suddenly, turning to face me. His eyes were intense, vulnnerable in a way I rarely saw. "Not as my healer, not because of duty or prophecy. Stay because you want to. Because this— us, it's real." My heart thundered in my chest. "Roman..." "I know I fucked up." he continued, his voice raw with emotion. "I know I hurt you, and I'll spend the rest of my life trying to make that right. But Belle," he cupped my face in his hands, his calloused thumbs gently stroking my cheeks "I can't imagine my life without you in it anymore. These past few days, watching you lie there so still... it nearly broke me." Tears pricked at my eyes as memories flooded back, Adeline's sweet face, the anger and pain that had consumed me after her death, the way I'd lashed out at Roman. But I also remembered his patience, his gradual transformation from the cold Alpha to the man who h

I blinked several times, adjusting to the soft candlelight that illuminated the infirmary. My body ached, but it wasn't the sharp, devastating pain I remembered from channeling my Lunar Soul powers. This was more like the dull throb of healing muscles, a reminder that I was still alive. "Hey there little healer." Roman's deep voice came from beside me, rough with exhaustion but warm with affection. I turned my head to find him sitting in a chair next to my bed, his large hand enveloping mine. Dark circles shadowed his eyes, and his usually neat hair was disheveled as if he'd been running his fingers through it repeatedly. His clothes were wrinkled, suggesting he hadn't changed in days. "You look terrible," I managed to

The sight of him hurt, bloodied and struggling, triggered something deep and primal inside me. Heat surged through my chest, different from the destructive power I had felt earlier. This was something new....something pure. Without thinking, I raised my trembling hands and reached toward him. Light. Bright and blinding. It flowed from my fingertips, enveloping Roman in a golden glow. He froze for a moment, his head snapping toward me in shock, but I couldn't stop. The light wrapped around him, seeping into his body, and as I watched, his wounds began to knit themselves together. The gashes on his face closed, the blood disappearing as if it had never been there. Roman’s eyes blazed with renewed strength, and he let out a roar— half-wolf, half-man— as he turned back to Cassandra. "NO!!!!" Cassandra shrieked, her voice high and panicked. She lunged at me, her movements wild and desperate, but Roman was faster. He intercepted her mid-leap, his massive jaws closing around

MIRABELLE ---------I collapsed to my knees as Lucien's body disintegrated, the power draining from me like blood from a mortal wound. My entire body trembled, my hands shaking violently as I tried to steady them. The taste of copper filled my mouth, sharp and metallic, but satisfaction coursed through my veins like a balm to my soul. Adeline had been avenged. The weight of her death, the endless nights of guilt and grief, lifted from my shoulders— if only slightly. But the cost was high. I could barely breathe, barely think, as the energy I had summoned to end Lucien left me hollow. The wind carried the acrid scent of blood and ash, the battlefield around me littered with bodies of rogues and allies alike. It was chaos, pure and unrelenting, but I couldn’t bring myself to look away from the spot where Lucien had stood moments before. There was nothing left of him now— just ash swirling in the cold air."Belle!"Roman’s voice cut through the din, sharp and commanding, but tinged w

Through the mayhem, I caught glimpses of my pack fighting with everything they had. Elijah, my Beta, was a blur of motion, his massive gray wolf ripping through rogues with deadly precision. Fenrir, the once-mistrusted rogue who'd proven his loyalty time and time again, stood guard over the infirmary entrance where Belle worked. His hulking form was a wall of muscle and fur, and any rogue foolish enough to approach him was quickly dispatched. I spun, dodging the snapping jaws of a rogue before sinking my teeth into his throat. His gurgled scream was cut short as I tore him apart, my wolf howling in triumph. But there was no time to revel in the kill. More were coming. "ROMAN!!" Cassandra's voice cut through the carnage like a blade. I turned, my eyes narrowing as I spotted her atop a pile of bodies, her silver hair matted with blood, her eyes wild with hatred. She was in her human form, her slender frame deceptively fragile-looking as she surveyed the battlefield with a cruel smi

ROMAN-------The stench of blood and ash filled my nostrils as I stood at the fortress gates, watching the horizon darken with approaching rogues. My heart pounded against my chest, not from fear, but from rage. Belle stood beside me, her fingers intertwined with mine, the silver necklace glinting at her throat. That necklace was more than just a keepsake—it was a symbol of everything we'd lost, and everything we were about to protect. "They're coming" I growled, feeling my wolf stir restlessly beneath my skin. My claws itched to emerge, my body vibrating with the need to fight. "At least five hundred of them." Belle squeezed my hand, her grip stronger than I expected. "We're ready." Her voice was steel now, so different from the frightened healer who'd first arrived at Shadowfang. The past months had hardened her, shaped her into something fierce and unstoppable. She wasn’t just a healer anymore—she was a warrior in her own right, though she’d never admit it. I turned to her

His kisses continued downward, his hands sliding over my hips as he hooked his fingers into the waistband of my pants. He paused, looking up at me for permission, and I nodded, lifting my hips to help him pull them off. His eyes burned as they roamed over me, now nearly bare before him."You're perfect," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "Every inch of you."Heat coiled low in my belly as he pressed a kiss to the inside of my thigh, his stubble scraping against my sensitive skin in a way that made me gasp. He kissed his way higher, his hands gently parting my legs, and when his lips brushed against the thin fabric of my underwear, I couldn’t stop the moan that escaped me."Roman..." I whispered, my voice shaky with both nerves and anticipation."I’ve got you," he said softly, his hands stroking my thighs in reassurance. "Just let me take care of you."He pulled my underwear down slowly, his gaze never leaving mine as he bared me completely to him. I felt vulnerable, exposed, bu

My fingers traced Adeline's necklace, remembering her smile, her laugh, her final moments.A knock at my door broke through my thoughts. I knew who it was before he even spoke."Belle" Roman's voice was rough with emotion. "Please let me in."I considered ignoring him, but my feet moved of their own accord. When I opened the door, he looked wrecked. His usually perfect hair was disheveled, like he'd been running his hands through it repeatedly, and his eyes held a desperate intensity that made my heart clench."You can't do this," he said immediately, stepping into my room and closing the door. "I won't let you sacrifice yourself.""It's not your choice to make." I replied softly, turning back to the window. "You heard Kieran. It has to be my decision.""Fuck the prophecy!!"
