Chapter 5

Antoine's POV

Trinity didn't say much on the way.

I glanced at her from the corner of my eye several times. Her expression was calm.

That surprised me. I expected her to be depressed, yelling or crying, rejecting marrying me. After all, no girl would be happy marrying a loser. Not to mention an Alpha's daughter.

Yes. I did some investigation after I knew I had to marry her.

It was said that Donald's daughter was spoiled. What she liked were parties, alcohol, and changing boyfriends.

If it hadn't been my mother's last wish to ask me to marry the Alpha's daughter of the Webb pack, I would never marry such a kind of girl. I wouldn't give her a glance if I saw her.

But my mother asked me to vow before she passed away. Although I didn't understand, I didn't want to go against her wish.

So, I deliberately released rumors that I was disliked by the pack, couldn't find a decent job, and had no money. I thought in that case, she would not accept me as her mate and ask for a divorce. Then, we both would feel relieved.

But after seeing Trinity, I wasn't sure.

She was different from the girls I had seen. I couldn't tell what she was thinking from her expressions.

It took us some time to get to my house in the suburbs.

It was a small old house, with only one bedroom and some basic furniture.

"Welcome to my house," I said with a smile.

In the meantime, I examined Trinity's expressions. I couldn't wait to see the disappointment on her face.

"It's clean," she said as she looked around.

I frowned a little, trying to find a trace of dissatisfaction on her face. But I failed.

She seemed to be satisfied with the house. Otherwise, it meant that she was a very good liar. But I didn't know why she lied to me about this.

"And it's tranquil," she added.

Yes, it was far away from the city center. That was one of the reasons I chose this house.

"I'm glad you like it," I made a half-smile.

I sat down on the couch and put my legs on the tea table leisurely.

Trinity almost invisibly frowned. I followed her gaze and looked at my feet. There was dirt on my boots, and they fell on the tea table when I put my feet on it.

"I got a point," I cheered inwardly.

Trinity didn't say anything but looked around. And I watched her examining everything in the house.

When she walked to a cabinet, she stopped and pointed at the few bottles of wine in the cabinet and asked, "Are these expensive?"

"No. They are just ordinary brands. They're cheap," I answered casually.

"No, they're not cheap. I have seen this brand of wine in Donald's wine cabinet. He cherished them so much," Trinity said. "One time, when I was doing the cleaning, I accidentally broke one. He beat me so hard. I can't remember it wrong."

"Shit!" I cursed inwardly. First the watch, and now the wine. She was not as stupid as I expected.

So, I quickly made up a lie. "Those are fake. Only the bottles are real. I poured some other wine into them."

Trinity didn't seem to be convinced. "You can be honest with me. Didn't you steal them?"

My eyes widened when I heard her words.

Seeing my expression, she immediately waved her hands. She was so nervous that her face had turned red. She explained, "I don't mean to accuse you. I just want to know more about you. After all, we are married now." Her voice became lower and lower.

I lolled back on the couch and said, "I'm not lying. You can have a try."

Trinity shook her head. "I don't drink."

Hearing it, I frowned.

Either the information I got was wrong, or she lied.

I also remembered that when I touched her at the wedding, she was so shy that even her ears turned red.

It seemed that she was not like a girl who changed her boyfriend frequently.

An idea flashed in my mind.

I suddenly asked, "Who are you?"

Trinity was startled by my question and trembled unconsciously.

But she soon recovered and replied, "I'm your wife. Why did you ask?"

I smiled, "Just joking. I thought girls nowadays all like to drink."

She let out a breath and said, "I used to. But my body doesn't allow me to, so I quit."

I nodded, although I didn't believe a word she said.

She was smarter than I thought.

Surprisingly, I didn't feel angry. Instead, I felt interested. At least, she was not a dull woman.

To change the topic, I asked, "Do you want to have a bath first?"

Trinity's face turned red again. Her skin was so pale that it was easy to tell when she was nervous.

I couldn't help but want to tease her, "There is only one bedroom. How do we sleep tonight?"

Trinity didn't answer but bit her lower lip.

I wondered how she would react.

After a while, she said, "We just met today. I think we should give ourselves some time to get to know each other. You're taller and bigger than me, so you can have the bedroom. I can sleep on the couch."

I snorted to show my dissatisfaction.

Trinity immediately shivered. I didn't know why she was so scared of me.

I stood up and walked to her. She stepped back.

But there was not much space. Soon, she was forced to the corner.

Her body tightly leaned against the wall.

She was so thin that I could easily lift her with one hand and break her neck.

I couldn't help wondering why she was so weak as Alpha's daughter. Was she pretending? Or...

I lowered my head and approached her ear. We were so close that my mouth almost touched her earlobe. "You really don't need me to fulfill my responsibility as your husband? I don't mind..."
