I had woken up that morning in renewed spirits. I felt I could handle anything; however, no one had prepared me for what was about to happen, and not even in my wildest dreams could I have imagined it.
I left my room with a feeling of happiness; so great was my enthusiasm that my father noticed it and frowned.
"Is there something interesting about why you have that smile plastered on your face?" my dad asked with interest, and I denied it.
"No, I just want to get to school as soon as possible, that's all."
Dad set the silverware aside on his plate and stopped his breakfast, which was not a good sign.
"Since when did you become so interested in being on time for school?" he asked now with a mocking tone of voice. "It took years for you to adjust to waking up early, and yet you're still complaining. What aren't you telling me?"
My father's perception was unique, as was his nose for detecting my lies, so I was a bit honest.
"I have a feeling I'm going to meet a pretty girl today," I said, and he nodded as if that made it all clear.
"It's weird that you're meeting a new girl at this point in the school year," he said suspiciously, and I smiled at him.
"I never said she was new, just that I'm going to meet her; is that any sin?" I asked before grabbing my sandwich and walking away.
"Be careful; you know how I feel about promiscuity," Dad said seriously, and I ignored him and immediately got into my truck.
I arranged my things and took a good bite of my sandwich before pulling off, then drove carefully and thought of ways I could meet Sage. Somehow, I had to bribe the Fight Club people.
I was so focused on my thoughts that when I pulled into park, I almost hit the pariah of the pack. The black-haired girl gave me an angry look and walked away, so I ignored her as usual. As I got off, I greeted my teammates who were gathered in the parking lot, then went to change to go to the training class, which we had first thing in the morning.
After a while, everyone started to change, which gave me time to get to the far side of the campus, where the sports arena with the football field was located, without rushing.
I stretched with a group, and the teacher Conie, came over. She gave us a series of exercises, and I noticed that Emery wanted to come closer, so I slowly moved away and took some distance, so when she tried to come to where I was, the teacher spoke.
"Today we are going to have an interesting day; we will have a game where we will test not only your speed but your cunning and how you work as a group," she said, and everyone was ecstatic. "However, today I will be doing things very different from what we normally do."
That made everyone speculate and whisper, but it was Britney who raised her hand with a frown.
"What's wrong, Britney?" asked teacher Conie.
"What does that mean differently? Define it, please," she said, and people nodded, seconding the doubt she had.
"We won't be doing the typical basic training, but we will be playing 'Catch the Flag.' The game is that everyone will split into pairs with the goal of running in the woods, locating the flags and the ones who get the most flags will be the winners."
Everyone started laughing in amusement, but another boy raised his hand to ask.
"What are the rules of the game? How do we catch the flags?"
I frowned as I saw teacher Connie’s sinister smile.
She was a very creative woman, but at the same time, that made her terrifying, although that was what made her such a good teacher. She had a great wit, plus she used to adjust the fitness level and competitiveness of her students.
"That will be the fun part; you can find them in your hiding places, and you can steal them from your schoolmates," she said, and everyone started whispering, so I watched her with squinted eyes. "Best of all, we'll be more equitable and leave the pairs to chance."
"What does that mean?" asked Britney with annoyance.
"That you can match them with anyone here, regardless of sex, race, or your birth rank in your packs. Things are going to be a little fairer here; we don't want any nepotism. Let the Goddess be the one to choose your destinies." We all started to complain, but she saw us with annoyance, so we became silent, and then she took a red bag she had on the floor and shook it. "You are going to go through and take a piece of paper that will have a number on it, then I will go call to find out which are the couples and meet each other."
One by one, we went through it quickly.
The atmosphere didn't seem as lively as it had at the beginning, but that was just what made things interesting with teacher Conie. By the time it was my turn, I was number 47, and after half an hour, the teacher called out each pair.
Britney approached with amusement.
"What number did you get, handsome?" she asked coquettishly.
"The 47," I said, and she frowned, then Emery stood next to me, which made Britney leave immediately.
"We didn't get the same number, but we can cheat and change it," Emery muttered, and I raised my eyebrows before looking into her eyes.
She had honey-colored eyes that were beautiful, but her gaze showed a being that I was not at all attracted to. The girl was the queen bee of the school for a reason, but I wouldn't be the pawn to fall for her charms.
"I don't think that will be necessary," I said, and teacher Conie called out my number.
At that point, I moved closer to get away from Emery and didn't realize who my teammate was until she was close. My eyebrows immediately rose at the sight of her; she was the school outcast, the girl I almost hit early with my truck.
She eyed me with animosity.
Fantastic; that was what I was missing, I thought wryly.
"Well, this could be an interesting combination, and since I'm sure you don't know each other, William, meet Snow; Snow, meet William," said teacher Conie, and I heard everyone scoffing at the situation because everyone in the southern territory knew who I was.
I looked at the teacher, but she raised her eyebrows, and so I reached out my hand to give the girl a squeeze, and she moved closer so we could make up.
Suddenly, the smell of her scent enveloped me completely. It was a vanilla scent that seemed to me to be the most exquisite in the world, and when we touched, I felt a damned electric current down my arm. She felt the same, let go of me, and didn't take her frown off her face.
It's my mate, I thought with horror.
I took a good look at her for the first time, noticing her as I never had before and realized that, although she was smaller than normal, she had beautiful hair, a sweet face with a few freckles on her face and very pretty lips. But it was her dark eyes that I really found mesmerizing and for a moment I thought of Sage, seeing the way she looked at me.
The idea of her being Sage fell terribly on me; it was impossible for someone so weak to be my mate, plus she was a minor who had not changed; she had never attended the soul binding ceremony that was done before my father when you change for the first time. I had been to all of them since I was eleven years old and she never even came close.
She couldn't be Sage in her wildest dreams, nor would she ever have her worth.
This girl can't be my mate.
It was what my mind screamed quickly.
Disappointment immediately washed over me; Snow would never be my mate.
I was an advocate that a werewolf should be with who he truly loved, not who the Goddess thought or who biology wanted to mate with. The idea of being forced to be with someone seemed horrible to me, and this attested to it.
I realized that she did not perceive me as her mate, which I was grateful for because, at that instant, I decided that I would reject her when she came of age.
I couldn't be with such a weak girl, and maybe it was the way I looked down on her that made her see me as hating me.
That would make everything easier.
Snow My luck couldn't be worse every day.And the clear sign of it was the fact that I had been assigned to a group with William Walker himself, who was looking at me as if I was a piece of trash to be thrown away. At that moment, the thoughts I had about him settled much more in my mind. He's a jerk, I thought angrily. To me, he looks like someone who is very sexy, and he smells very nice. You could say his scent is tantalizing, my she-wolf said with a certain teasing tone.I slyly inhaled his scent and noticed that it was much thicker, stronger, and concentrated, which made me a bit arrhythmic. It was too pleasant, so much so that a part of me wanted to bring my nose to his neck and not peel off immediately. Not only was it a tantalizing scent, it was too mesmerizing, so I had to control the urge to get close. The good thing was that William made it easy for me to feel like getting away from him because he was an arrogant fool who looked at people like they were trash.Another time
WilliamThe scent of rogues was too strong and overpowering. That meant there were too many of them in the forest, and I didn't know what they wanted or why they had decided to violate the treaty to come so close to the school, but I did know this was bad because none of us present had changed. We were werewolves in training who had yet to meet their primary beasts, so this could only be summed up as a disaster. The worst part was that most of us had never received tactical training in our lives. There were very few of us who had that privilege; I could count them on the fingers of my hands, and the class was about 200 students. This is a problem, I thought angrily.I touched my neck and controlled my breathing.Whatever the tranquilizer dart had in it must not have been very strong; it must have been slow-acting, so I still had time to alert the others, especially Professor Conie, to get help.I was responsible for everyone at this point. They were the members of the herd that I woul
SnowRunning away was not in my dictionary.I had learned to face certain situations and avoid others, but I would not run away from a fight at such a vital moment as that, when innocents were in danger. That's why I made William think I was running away without actually doing it.I wasn't going to leave him helpless with the rogues; he wasn't alone, but he was at a great disadvantage, and I wasn't a fool who would run off crying for help. The boy may be a haughty jerk, but he's too noble for him to realize it himself, so I like him already, my she-wolf said, and I shook my head at her comment.Of all the things she could say in this position, I wasn't expecting that one, though the truth was that she was right, albeit that it surprised me. William was trying not only to get me to safety, even though he considered me an outcast, as he had rightly said minutes before, but he was seeking to protect the members of the pack who could not take care of themselves. That was not only noble; i
WilliamI felt like I was running inside a nightmare and that everything was going to end badly.I felt caged, and I could visualize the concrete walls closing in to trap me inside the long corridor I was fleeing down. This corridor seemed to be infinite, and I could not see the light anywhere; it was as if the darkness wanted to consume me immediately. As I was about to give up, a light blinded me completely, and I realized that Snow was standing at the end, as if she was waiting for me, and that made me frown, until I realized that a rogue of the ones who had attacked me was ready to plunge a silver dagger into her back.I screamed to alert her, but it was too late, and I only saw her fall as a large bloodstain formed on her dress. The rogue sneered and started running to kill me.A shudder ran through my entire body and I woke up with my heart racing. What the hell was that? That was the question I asked myself before I opened my eyes.I wasn't understanding anything; I just had a
SnowWaking up with William's face millimeters away from mine was not what I had expected. Much less ending up in the school infirmary, so I left the Alpha's spoiled son alone while I went to the bathroom to get my thoughts in order.I didn't know what had happened after I had been knocked unconscious and I wouldn't know how to explain the fact that I had knocked out a few rogues. I was afraid that the Alpha would manage to find out something about what had happened and that would affect me.Relax; nothing interesting happened while you were sleeping, my she-wolf said, and I was surprised after closing the bathroom door. What do you mean, nothing happened? I asked anxiously.Teacher Conie sent a group to look for William and had another group bring you to the infirmary while reinforcements arrived. From what I heard, the rogues disappeared from the forest; they only left the trail of their scent and one of the weapons they shot the darts with, my she-wolf said, and I raised my eyebrow
SnowI went straight to the locker room to change my clothes and grab my stuff to get the hell out of the school; however, I didn't expect William to come after me.I guess the sexy boy isn't finished with you, my she-wolf said mockingly.I shook my head at his tone of voice, so I waited patiently for the Alpha's son to approach. Something told me he wouldn't let me go quietly."Are you going to the locker room?" he asked, and I nodded. "I'm going there too."I nodded without saying anything to him because I didn't even care where he was going or what he wanted to do, so I let him go at his pace."I'd like to thank you for what you did," he said, and I looked at him with an arched eyebrow.I wasn't expecting that one from him and realized he was being sincere, which was quite a novelty coming from someone who had openly called me a pariah."You don't have to thank me; it was what I had to do," I said to downplay the matter and let him go on his way."It's not as simple as that," he sa
WilliamI came home with a frown on my face, and maybe that's why no one asked me about the rogue’s attack or said anything to me about it. I knew well that the guards were quintessential gossips and liked to tease me from time to time, but if they had any sense of respect, it was a sense of respect, and they weren't going to hassle me if I was upset.Which was a good advantage for me. I was grateful for the fact that my father wasn't home and carefully entered his office to access the pack files.I needed to understand a little more about Snow.I knew she didn't quite trust me, which I respected, and that's why she hadn't wanted me to drop her off directly at her house. But my wolf had been too uneasy before when I let her go, so I had been to upset for her to follow.Doing that could mean she would stop talking to me, so I decided to do it in the most direct way possible: looking for the pack census. I locked the door and went straight to the shelves where my father kept everything
SnowMr. Frank looked at me with a frown."Are you okay?" he asked with concern, and I nodded. After getting out of William's truck, my body felt completely heavy, and my she-wolf was too quiet. Somehow, I didn't feel like I had the best energy, so I chalked it up to the fact that maybe the darts somehow did affect me."You don't seem well. I heard there was an attack on the high school. Were you there?" He asked seriously, and I denied it.I didn't want to talk about it; the subject was not only fresh, but it wasn't something I wanted to talk about."No, I heard from a group of students, but I don't quite know what happened," I said to calm him down, and he sighed."It's the first time in decades that the rogues have gotten this close to this pack," he said with surprise, and I was intrigued."Have they done something like this before?""Yes, but on those occasions, they were very careless, and the wolves in this pack were prepared for their attack. This attack seems to have been mor
