{Dominic}

I flipped to the next page of the leather-bound tome sprawled across my lap, the faint scent of aged parchment and ink doing little to keep my focus intact. Maybe it was the long day, or maybe it was the lack of sleep, or maybe…

Click.

The bathroom door creaked open, and her scent reached me long before I saw her. I looked up, and the book might as well have burst into flames.

She sauntered out of the bathroom, wrapped in nothing but a towel around her body and another coiled around her wet hair. Droplets still clung to her collarbone, racing down her skin in little trails. Her legs were bare, and so was her neck, yet all I could think was how the moon was a cruel bastard for letting me see her like this and still not touch.

My gaze dragged over every inch of her, slowly and greedily. I wasn’t proud of it, but I wasn’t sorry, either. Every cell in my body leaned toward her, and hunger curled deep in my gut.

“Take a picture,” she said, her voice rich with smug amusement. “It’

I dare you.”Allen didn’t flinch, he just gave me that dead-eyed stare, like he was already halfway past caring about living or dying. “I wouldn’t be telling you this if I wasn’t a hundred percent sure, Dominic. I triple-checked.” I paced restlessly as my boots scuffed the old stone floor. “How?” I demanded. “How the hell is that even possible?”Allen shrugged, and it took everything in me not to leap across the room and shake him. “I’m still digging, but dark magic this ancient. It bends rules we barely understand.” His gaze hardened, sending a puff of ash into the air. “What I do know is I need a fresh corpse.”I stopped pacing. “Define fresh.”“Less than an hour dead,” Allen said without blinking. “Before the magic dissipates, otherwise, it's like chas

My whole world narrowed to the ring and the way it hummed; a whisper slipped into my head, coaxing and tempting.“Put it on,” the voice urged, curling around my mind in the most enticing way possible. My hand moved on its own, slowly bringing the ring closer to my finger. {Lyra}The silk around my wrists was soft, but it may as well have been steel, binding me in place like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered.I stood in the center of the stage, dressed in a beautiful short ivory satin gown that did very little to hide the clear white skin of my thighs. The entire room felt suffocating, and it made my heart pound so hard that I honestly thought my ribs might crack from the intense pressure. As I looked out into the audience seated in rows, all I could make out were the decorative masks they wore to hide their identities and the paddles they twirled in excitement. These people were the elite 1% of the world; billionaires, politicians, aristocrats, criminals, and worst of all… a few Alphas. As an omega that I was, there was nothing scarier than being sold to an Alpha wolf. They were akin to monsters to us omegas. Treating us like nothing but playthings for their own sick pleasure, and there was nothing even the moon goddess could do to change that. The audi

{Dominic}Just looking at her made me want to howl, but I couldn’t for the life of me understand why my wolf was so excited. It wasn’t like him.She was beautiful, I’ll give her that, but she was a slave, and that was enough reason to not give a fuck. The only reason I was in that auction house at the time was because I was looking for information. I needed to track someone down, and quickly.I had left my territory and come to this deadbeat city in search of a rumored witch doctor who could save my little sister. Many years ago, my father had wanted to expand his territory, and in doing so, he raided a small town and ended up executing an innocent witch. He had no idea that she was part of a coven that had once protected us werewolves. With her dying breath, she placed a curse on my father’s bloodline, and if I didn’t find the witch doctor, then my sister was going to die.Yet here I was, being distracted by a mere human slave. It irked me, but when the auctioneer announced her mage

{Lyra}The driver opened the car door, and I climbed down. The estate was huge, and the villa was even more impressive.I didn’t see it at first, but when I turned toward the entrance of the villa, I noticed Dominic’s outstretched hand.I hesitated, unsure of what to do, but then I remembered who this man was. I didn’t have a choice, I knew better than to fight him, I had been told stories of what happened when an omega disobeyed an Alpha.I placed my fingers in his but to my surprise, his palm was warm and inviting, definitely not what I had expected from a ruthless Alpha. He led me inside, and I did my best to focus on the floor, rather than the feeling of his thumb slowly brushing against my skin, and the heat that crawled up my arm.The doors opened, and two men in formal black suits stood on each side of the door.“Welcome Alpha.” They said in unison as they bowed.Dominic replied with a nod and strode inside with my hand still in his. I noticed the looks the men gave me when the

{Dominic}I couldn’t believe my ears. I understood the fact that he wasn’t her father, but to sell your stepdaughter at an auction was insanity. Now I regretted not biting his head off when I had the chance. My eyes raked over her, making sure to capture every detail of the human before me. She looked so small, and for someone who had been dragged across an auction stage and displayed like livestock, you’d expect her to be trembling. But her beautiful blue eyes burned like ice-cold fire, and even though I smelled her fear and panic, she stood her ground against me, an Alpha, when most would be cowering in fear. She was strong, but only the Moon goddess knew what she had to go through to become that strong.“What of your mother?” I asked calmly, before bluntly adding, “Is she dead?”She hesitated for a brief moment, and I watched as pain clouded her pretty features. “She might as well be.”I frowned, “What does that mean?”The pain became more noticeable, and she had to look away befor

{Lyra}I avoided Dominic as if my life depended on it, mostly because it probably did.Since overhearing his conversation with Ryker, everything Dominic did felt like manipulation. My mother had warned me about Alphas, and how they twisted truths and used people like pawns on a chessboard. It seemed Dominic Bloodhound was no different. I wasn’t exactly sure why he had gone to such lengths to buy me at that auction, but now I had a strong feeling it had something to do with my mother.Suddenly, I remembered something my mother had told me to take care of, or rather… someone. I had been so caught up in my own escape that I had nearly forgotten that I wasn’t the only one who needed saving. His face flashed in my mind, soft brown curls, bright green eyes, a dimpled smile that could melt even Victor’s cold heart. Isaac, my little stepbrother. He was Victor’s son, but he wasn’t like Victor in any way. He was a kind and sweet boy who didn’t deserve to suffer under a man like that. And I ha

{Dominic}“Are you sure we’re going the right way?” I asked, pushing past thick underbrush as we wove through the dense forest. The scent of damp earth clung to my nostrils, mingling with the crisp evening air. “If there’s one thing you can trust me on, it’s my nose,” Ryker answered without his usual trace of sarcasm. His massive Lycan form prowled ahead, his muscles shifting beneath his ash-colored fur.His brows were furrowed in concentration, and his claws dug into the ground as he maneuvered over roots and fallen logs. It was rare to see him this focused, his usual cockiness was long gone. But that’s why he was my Beta. When shit hits the fan, Ryker would never hesitate to stand by my side as we went through whatever fresh hell awaited us.I could always count on him to drag me out, even if it meant running through a goddamn forest, chasing a scent that might not even lead anywhere. His nose had picked up the trace of the witch from the same stall where that divine seer had told

{Lyra}“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said again, this time with a touch more attitude. Maybe if I just stood still long enough, the lie would become the truth.Reina scoffed, that maddeningly smug grin playing at the corners of her lips. “Don’t bother, Lyra,” she said softly, “Your heartbeat skipped a beat the second I said your name.”I stared at her, a bit shocked at what was happening.“You forgot I’m a wolf too, didn’t you?” she whispered, eyes narrowing like a predator that just cornered something that should’ve gotten away.A sigh slipped past my lips, and I had no choice but to stop pretending.I turned, sauntering quietly to the bathroom door, and gently closed it shut, turning the lock with a quiet click that still sounded way too loud.“How did you know?” I asked in a voice that was barely louder than a whisper.Reina leaned her hip against the sink. “I wasn’t sure at first, I mean, you definitely looked familiar, even with the black hair, but I couldn’t place

{Lyra}I froze. There was no other word for it; I just froze. Completely, utterly, horrifyingly frozen. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I blinked, just to be sure I wasn’t hallucinating, but when I opened my eyes, she was still there.“Reina?” My Reina. The same girl who used to sneak cold brew into morning meetings and sketch logo ideas on her arm when she ran out of paper? The girl I used to trade terrible breakroom sandwiches with when we were both interns at NovaCore. And now, somehow, impossibly, she was Ryker’s mate?My gaze ping-ponged between them, trying to rationalize what my eyes were feeding my brain. Reina hadn’t changed much— she still had that messy bun like she’d stabbed a pencil through it mid-rush, she looked very much the same. I was already planning my exit route. Left turn, around the pool, into the house, up the stairs, and disappear before anyone noticed. Maybe I could pack a bag, grab Isaac, and just start over again. Alaska didn’t sound so bad. It was cold and is

  • The Alpha's Fated Desire   CHAPTER FORTY-SIX

{Lyra}I chose to sit up front with Ryker, not because I liked him or anything. But it just felt wrong to sit in the back with Dominic and Odessa, I mean, he had just gotten her back. They’d been robbed of five years, I couldn’t bring myself to take up even five minutes of that reunion.Ryker didn’t say much when I climbed in. He just grunted, flicked a glance my way, then focused back on the road. He kept doing that—those sideways looks like he expected me to sprout horns or shoot fire from my eyes. “Want to ask me something, or are you just going to keep side-eying me like I stole something of yours?” I finally said. His lip twitched. “You don’t smell like a liar.”“Gee, thanks."He didn’t answer, but he didn’t scowl either, so maybe that was progress. When we reached Dominic’s estate, Odessa stepped out of the car like she was seeing it for the first time. “It looks gloomier than I remember,” she said as her nose wrinkled in disapproval.Dominic was already halfway around the car,

{Dominic}I didn’t move from Odessa’s side, not even when Maek began his examination. With a wave of his hand, his magic pulsed like static through the room, stirring the hairs on my arms and making me twitch.Odessa sat up in the bed, propped against a mountain of pillows, her skin flush with life again. Her eyes trailed every movement Maek made, but mine were locked onto her face. I felt like I was watching a ghost come back to life.Maek ran a final test, pressing an ancient rune stone to Odessa’s chest. It pulsed violet for a few seconds, then dimmed. He let out a deep grunt and picked the stone up, then he turned to me, wiping his hands on a cloth.“Well?” I asked. My voice came out gruff and heavy.“The curse is still inside of her, but it’s been suppressed.” his words dropped like lead.My chest tightened. “Suppressed? What does that even mean?”“It means the dark energy isn’t active right now. Dormant, like a wolf in hibernation. But it’s still there, curled deep inside her. S

{Dominic}Doctor Maek’s office always smelled like copper and cold incense. I stepped inside, my boots thudding against the checkered stone tiles as the door swung shut behind me. The old mage sat in his chair and began scribbling something on a parchment and muttering inaudibly.“I’m pretty sure you already know why I want to see you.” I said as calmly as I could. His pen stopped, and he sighed, letting it go, but it remained upright. He folded his fingers in between each other and placed them on top of the desk before him. “I’m aware, Alpha Bloodhound.”He gestured to the leather chair across from him but I didn’t sit. “Suit yourself,” he said, taking out a folder from under the desk. “She’s slipping,” he said, throwing the folder on the table. I picked it up and went through it.“You say that like she hasn’t always been slipping. What does that mean, Maek?”Finally, he lifted his head. Pale, sunken eyes studied me from beneath his furrowed brows. “It means nothing I can do.”My gr

{Lyra}The moment Ryker muttered her name, I watched the light drain from Dominic’s face like someone had turned off a switch. His whole body went still, just for a second, but I felt the shift. His nostrils flared slightly, and for a second, he didn’t speak. He just kept his gaze on Ryker, and silence filled he entire airstrip. But then he straightened his shoulders and flicked his head. “We’re taking your car.”His hand came up, already motioning toward our driver. “Drop Evangeline off—”“I’m coming with you,” I cut in, before he could finish. His head snapped to me, brows drawing together. “Evangeline, this doesn’t—”“Concern me?” I tilted my head, letting my voice lift with faux sweetness as I stepped closer. “Dominic, this is obviously a family matter. And last I checked, I’m part of the family now, right?”That earned me a long, hard glare. The kind that could’ve made a lesser wolf whimper and back off. But I didn’t move. In fact, I squared my shoulders and leaned in just enough
