I gazed into Thelma's nervous eyes, my voice barely above a whisper. "Am I right? You know exactly what happened between me and Thomas in the dining room, don't you?"

Thelma's mask began to crumble, her composure faltering under the weight of my words. She glanced around furtively, as if afraid someone might overhear our conversation, before leaning in closer, her voice trembling. "Please, keep your voice down. I know what you're talking about, but... you have to let it go."

"Let it go?" I asked, my brows arching in disbelief as I gripped her arm tightly. "How can I when you're suffering? What's wrong with you, Thelma? Why are you so obsessed with him? Why do you tolerate his behavior?"

Tears welled up in Thelma's eyes, and she pulled her arm free from my grasp, her voice shaking with emotion. "You don't understand. We've been deeply, crazily in love before. I love him, Eva. That's how I feel about him. I don't want to leave him for anything. I love him too much."

"I'm really sorry, Toby, for not reciprocating your feelings, but I want you to know that I can be your friend, okay?"He chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "Why would I feel bad? You rejected me, but there are many fish in the sea. I can find another girl. Trust me, I'm a ladies' man."As if on cue, several girls sauntered over, flirting shamelessly with Toby. "I can see that."Toby snapped his fingers, dispersing the girls with a charming smile. "Leave us alone, ladies. I'm with Eva."Once they left, Toby turned his attention back to me, his eyes bright. Leave. Both of you."Her voice trembled, and I could see the hurt in her eyes. "Since you don't believe me, maybe I should stay away from you for some time. Probably, we should take a break?
