I watched as Eva shook off Toby's arm, and then she turned to me and also snapped her arm off my grasp.

This caused a change in my facial expression because I thought she was going to accept me.

"I'm fine, I can go home alone," she said, her voice firm. "I don't need a guide. I'm a strong, capable woman who can take care of herself."

I felt a pang of guilt and nervousness as she turned to me, her gaze piercing. "I wonder why you're even back," she whispered. "I thought you said I should leave your car."

I opened my mouth to respond, but she cut me off. "Anyway, you guys should leave now. I'll go... I'll go first."

She turned and walked away, leaving me feeling frustrated, concerned, and embarrassed. I took a step forward, intending to run after her and insist she get into my car, but Toby's voice stopped me.

"Why bother, Lorenzo? Let her be. She said she wants to be alone, and I'm sure she'll be fine."
