CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

SARA

I groaned as I opened my eyes, my senses, dulled and disoriented. The air around me was thick with the scent of damp stone and faint tang of magic.

My eyes widened, as I found myself lying on the cold, hard surface. The dim light that flickered from a single torch on the wall, cast a shadow around the small, confined space; a cell.

The walls were made of rough-hewn stone, and the only exit was a heavy, iron bolted door that looked impossibly solid.

Panic surged within me as I tried to move, to call on my powers, but something was wrong; terribly wrong.

I felt weakened, as if a vital part of me had been stripped away. My heart raced, my breath quickening as I struggled to understand what was happening.

I looked at my wrist, I was bound by thin, dark chains that pulsed with an unnatural energy. I knew immediately, they were specifically to suppress my powers.

A low mocking laugh echoed through the cell, sending a chill down my spine. I turned my head slowly, my eyes narrowing as
