58) The aftermath

The moment the last celestial fell, Eva was gone. One second, she was still there, hovering above the withered and shrunken bodies of the dozen or so council members; the next second she was gone. When my mind registered that it was finally over, an immense wave of exhaustion washed over me and I collapsed onto the ground. Soon, I was forced to shift back, unable to maintain my wolf form a second longer. I felt my wolf retract far back into my mind, utterly spent from the intense battle. My mate whined worriedly, gently licking my face as he lay down, wrapping himself around my slumped body.

'You okay, baby?' His voice echoed in my mind, sounding drained but not as much as me, since he managed to stay in his wolf form.

'...ngh... exhausted.' I thought back, too tired to even speak.
