I could tell by the look on Liam's face that my confession had caught him off guard.

And why wouldn't it? I hadn't meant to tell anyone or confess to anyone at all that I was going to be leaving the pack as soon as high school ended. It's not like there would be anyone trying to stop me from leaving.
