'Keira,' I hear him in my mind. I can't see him, but I know his voice. It is our Alpha, and his wolf is calling to mine, calling to his mate. But I have no interest in his egomaniacal temperament. No need for his primitive human games and just because my wolf, Keira, is his mate doesn't mean that my human side, Eryn, wants him.

'Keira,' I hear him again and turn to see him peering at me from across the crowded room. This is it! This is the perfect time to do this! He wouldn't dare throw a tantrum in front of the entire pack in the common room. He begins toward me and I to him. With every trembling footstep, I solidify my decision.

"Eryn," he says in a velvety tone that could make any woman melt, but not me.

"Yes, Asher?" I remark, though the disdain is apparent in my voice.

'Mine,' I hear his wolf cry out to Keira in my mind.

'Kai,' she howls back as I can feel her waver in our decision.

"I've been looking for you," he continues, his soft voice falters under my gaze.

"Awaiting my decision, no doubt," I spat at him.

"And?"

I take a deep breath, my shoulders shaking as I prepare my words. They are simple words, but not so simple to say. Before I can utter a word, however, Michael, our Beta calls Asher away. I growl at myself for my failure. Damn guys, always in the way when you have something important to say.

This had been the hardest decision. Every wolf has a chance at a soul mate, one mate to connect with fully in mind, body, and soul. Once lost or rejected, we can choose a mate, though it would never be the same. I couldn't imagine a life with someone so... Asher. My decision to reject him had not been an easy decision, especially since a true rejection to sever the sire bond between mates, both the human and wolf must agree to sever that bond.

Now that my opportunity to reject Asher in front of witnesses had been spoiled, again, I had decided to return to my room. I walk in and fall onto the bed; Keira begins fighting with me. She wants nothing more than to connect with her mate, but I want nothing to do with him. He is an arrogant, pompous, bad-tempered prick. He is rude and entitled.

Suddenly, there is a pounding at my door that nearly knocks it off the hinges. He hasn't said anything, but I already know that it is Asher. Before I can even gather my thoughts to get up, my door swings open violently and he is standing there, red-faced, and angry.

"You still haven't answered me!" he roars making me flinch.

I open my mouth to say something, anything, but my words fail me. Keira is adamantly fighting me, and I cannot say what I really want to say. What I need to say.

All at once, he leaps forward, and I can feel the harsh feel of his hands on my arms. He is glaring into me with fire in his dark, golden eyes and I begin to tremble with fear of what he might do to me. There are no witnesses, no reason for him to hold back his temper if he should lose it. He growls my name again from deep in his throat and a shiver runs up my spine. Keira has finally let go of her fight and is agreeing with my decision.

With new confidence, I stand up straight and begin, "Asher, I reje..." I am stopped by his lips on mine. They are cold and almost rough against mine; his nails are digging into my arms, and I can feel the fire of the broken skin.

He pulls away and looks into my eyes as he whispers, "You are mine and no one shall have you but me. You will accept me as your Alpha and mate, or you will die!"

I am in my wolf form, running through the forest. I don't know where I am going but I know I have to get away. Away from Asher. Away from the pack. Away from that life. I find myself in a clearing and stop for a breath. Looking around, I can't see through the shadows of the pitch-black forest. The light of the full moon suddenly catches the eyes of my pack's golden eyes, and I can see dozens of them peering at me from the darkness. Their black coats hide them, but those eyes reflect the mother's glow as I feel the immense threat surrounding me. Suddenly, a great white wolf bursts into the clearing, his brilliant blue eyes catching the light of the mother and practically glowing in the black of this night. He glances at me then around at my surrounding pack. He catches the urgency of my flight and howls out to the moon hanging in the sky above. In moments, I see flashes of white within the trees, among my black coated pack. This is our rival pack, the White Wolves of Winchester. They

"Alpha." I turn from the window to see one of the Elders, Nyko, standing in my doorway. "What should we do with the Brinshire girl?" The Brinshire girl. I found her last night on my monthly patrol. Being an Alpha with no active Luna and no heirs, the Elders rarely let me do patrols along our borders. However, when the Great Mother is at her fullest, I go. Unlike most months, this patrol, would change everything. I came across her, this black wolf, just inside our territory. As I jumped at her, I caught a glimpse into her gold eyes and could see fear. No, I felt her fear deep within my core. I glanced around to realize that her fear was not of me but rather, of her pack that had stopped at their border. She had crossed our boundaries, committed treason which is punishable by death. I should have killed her where she stood, but instead, curiosity struck me. Why would this Brinshire wolf commit such open treason to escape her pack? Surely, she should kno

I watch as he walks into the room. He is tall and very handsome. His bright blue eyes are striking with his tan complexion and light blond hair. His features are delicate but set sternly upon his face. I feel the wave of authority wash over me as I stand in this room with my wrists in handcuffs in front of me. I know that this is the Alpha of the Winchester white wolves. I fall to my knees fearing that in an attempt to keep peace between the packs, he may send me back to Brinshire. I am their Luna, after all and Asher is desperate to keep me for some reason. I wouldn't put it past him to threaten Winchester with war if I am not returned to him. I begin pleading with this Alpha to kill me instead. I can't let him send me back and I know that breaking the treaty is grounds for execution. Which would be better than going back to Asher, especially now that I have accepted him in fear. Suddenly, amidst my pleas, he kneels down and comforts me. His hand on my shoulder is a

I lay on a huge bed, the softest bed I have ever felt in a lavish room after Abel gave me the grand tour of this great Winchester mansion. He insisted that I get cleaned up before lunch, so I did. Now it has been about an hour, and I can't help but worry about Abel's intentions. Is he really wanting to help me? Or is he using me by pardoning me from execution? Or is the execution just postponed? A million questions circle in my mind when suddenly, there is a tapping at the bedroom door. "Eryn? Lunch is ready," I hear Abel's voice through the door. I jump up, ready for food and hoping for insight of his plans. Opening the door, Abel stands up straight and smiles at me. He turns and offers his elbow as if it is some honor to escort me, a rouge Brinshire she-wolf, to lunch. Desperate for food and answers, I take his arm and let him lead me to the dining room. We eat lunch, me hocking every bite down like a starving pup who hadn't eaten in a week, while Abel sits quietly sipping on a cu

"Impossible," I hear Abel mutter under his breath. Then I hear him in my mind, 'How?' "How, indeed," I say out loud. Suddenly, Abel turns and dismisses us from the Elders' council. We briskly walk into the mansion where he lets my hand go in the middle of the den. He looks flustered as he runs his hands through his blond hair. I am in amazement myself. "I thought you could only find one soulmate? You lost yours and Asher is mine, how is this possible?" I ask, trying to prompt a response from him. "I don't know," he dismisses my question as he reaches for a book on the shelf of the wall. I sit on a dark burgundy couch as I watch him thumb through the book. He finishes the book and throws it on the nearby desk as he reaches for another. I am lost in thought, is this really happening? Could I have been mistaken? Was Asher truly my soulmate or had I made the wrong assumption? No, he was it! He had to have been! He was in lust for me, which is normal for
