Chapter 1

LILY's POV

"Don't let her out of sight!" One of the bullies shouted.

I moved my legs quickly, my heart beating rapidly like a wild beast. As I ran, the streets merged into a blur, and I struggled to catch my breath in short gasps. I had to stay out of their reach.

"Hey, slow down!" teased one of the bullies, with their laughter bouncing off the buildings.

I hurriedly turned a corner, scanning the busy street for a hiding spot with my eyes, when I laid eyes on a narrow pathway situated amidst two stores. I ran quickly toward it, my feet making loud noises on the pavement.

I entered the alleyway quickly, pressing my back against the wall while trying to regain my breath. I heard the bullies' laughter and shouts getting further away.

However, the temporary relief did not last long. My thoughts started to replay the mean comments, the taunts and laughter. "Weirdo." "Unattractive" "Frail" The insults felt as painful as new injuries.

Tears filled my eyes as I pushed away from the wall. Why were they so unkind? What had I done to deserve this from them? I used my sleeve to clean my nose and began walking, attempting to blend into the busy streets.

The moment I opened the door and entered our chaotic household. I was welcomed by the smell of damp air and the leftovers from my dinner, which made my stomach feel unsettled.

I had hoped to remain unseen, but my father's voice suddenly broke the silence.

"Lily, come in! Right now!"

I paused, feeling my heart drop. What have I done this time?

I walked wearily into the living room, my gaze focused on the ground. My father's face was flushed with rage, his eyes burning with blame.

"Lily, where is it? Where did my money go?" His voice was loud to instill fear in me.

I felt my thoughts rushing as I moved my head from side to side.

"I don't know what you are talking about Dad, I did not steal anything." His laughter was grating.

"Do not deceive me! I am aware that you have been taking things from me for weeks. You're exactly what everyone claims you are; a thief who is always receiving and never reciprocating." He said in disgust.

The words felt as painful as a physical blow. A lump of emotion rose in my throat as I tried to argue.

"That's a lie! I would never take anything from you without permission!"

However, my father wasn't paying attention. He came towards me, with his cold and hard eyes.

"How about I teach you a few things about stealing from your father."

I could barely make out the words he was saying, till he pulled off his leather belt from his trousers.

"No Dad! Please don't do this!" I begged, but it was too late.

The impact of the leather touching my skin made me scream in agony.

"Shush!" He placed his hands on his mouth. "If you dare shout one more time, I promise you that I will kill you!"

My screams became silent sobs, as he placed his belt back.

"You should be grateful that I am in a very good mood at the moment, else I would feed your flesh to the vultures!." He roared. " I want that money recovered before nightfall or I would do worse than just hitting you. Now get out of my sight!"

My feet became quicker, as I made my way to the room, still crying from the impact of the belt

I walked into the room, tears dropping down my eyes uncontrollably. I used the pillow as a cover, making the substance very wet. Why did it have to be this way all the time? Why was I never believed by anyone?

The door made a creaking noise as it opened, and I sensed someone or something next to me.

"Lil, It's alright, everything's okay. I am here for you."

I leaned into her hug, my tears dampening her shirt. Her gentle and soothing touch ran through my hair.

"I'm hated by everyone, Stella," I struggled to say. "Even mother and father. They believe that I am a thief and a liar..."

Stella squeezed me tightly with her arms. "Lily, what you're saying is not true. I'm aware that you wouldn't engage in those actions. I just want you to remember that I will be there with you no matter what."

Her words comforted my spirit, serving as a reassurance that I had some company. Stella has always been my pillar of strength, my trusted companion.

She retreated, her eyes gleaming with resolve. "We will overcome this, Lil." In unison. And I'll ensure that everybody recognizes the reality - that you are a fantastic, compassionate, and gifted individual who is worthy of love and respect."

I breathed in deeply, a faint grin quivering on my mouth. Stella's constant confidence in me shined like a guiding light during the dark times. Perhaps, there is a chance that everything will turn out fine in the end.

My father's loud voice called out for me.

I released myself from Stella's hug and all she could do was stare in pity, as I went out of the room to confront my father again.

I breathed in deeply before stepping inside, my gaze sweeping the room in search of hints. My father was standing next to the fireplace, with a smug expression on his face.

"Lily, there's an offer from the palace," he declared, his voice filled with enthusiasm. "You will be mated with one of the Alpha triplets."

I was speechless. "What on earth?! No, father, I refuse!"

His smile expanded further. "Lily, it is a privilege. You ought to show gratitude. You will belong to the royal family and enjoy all the benefits and security that it offers."

I nodded my head, feeling a surge of panic. "I have no desire for it! I refuse to be bound to a stranger, or a monster, I don't want that."

My father's expression turned gloomy. "Lily, you will follow instructions. This is an excellent chance, and your foolishness will not ruin it."

I experienced a sudden feeling of rebellion. "I refuse to do it!" I repeated with a stronger voice.

However, my father's facial expression became even more chilled. "Lily, you have no other option. Your destiny is inevitable. Tomorrow is the day you will depart for the palace."

My father's words caused my heart to shatter into a million pieces. He intended to make me marry Astor regardless of my feelings. I was merely a pawn in his game of authority and status.

I attempted to reason with him, to help him realize the mistakes he was making. However, he remained unaffected, his expression as unyielding as rock. I was aware that I had lost, stuck in a destiny I couldn't avoid.

Crying, I realized I would never have the freedom to decide for myself. I would always be bound to Astor, under his control and subjected to his unpredictable behavior and unkindness. At the age of eighteen, my life was finished.

I experienced a wave of despair, a complete hopelessness that felt overwhelming. However, a sudden feeling ignited within me. A tiny spark of rebellion, a determination to persist. I knew I had to continue to battle, no matter how challenging it appeared.

I inhaled deeply, clearing my tears. I will find an escape, no matter the cost. I would not let myself be overcome.

I watched father walk to the couch and sit graciously.

"Your mother will assist you in preparing for the wedding. She will ensure that you appear appropriate for Astor."

I felt strong feelings of anger and bitterness towards both my father and my mother. What made her agree to this? Was there any concern for my happiness from her at all?

I looked at my mother, who stood quietly in the corner of the room. She had her gaze lowered, her complexion looked pale. I was aware that she was displeased with the situation, but she was too scared to voice her feelings.

"Mother." I began, attempting to steady my quivering voice. " You must not allow him to treat me like this. You are aware of the extent of my hate for Astor. Please don't let him do this."

However, my mother simply shook her head, still looking down. "I apologize, Lily. I am unable to disobey your father's wishes, he is the leader of the family, and we must follow his orders."

A feeling of coldness washed over me, a deep sense of being left behind and deceived. My very own mother was leaving me when I needed her the most. I was completely by myself.
