Chapter 81 - Jackson

Cayden and I reach the packhouse kitchen before Evelyn and Aiden, so I find some plates and begin to brew some fresh coffee while Cayden sets about heating the pancakes.

“Like deja-vu” he jokes.

“Too right.” I smile.

“Did Ev’ speak with her brother last night?” Cayden asks.

I nod. “Only briefly. Things are understandably pretty hectic there. I think if he was brutally honest he is glad she is safe being here.”

Cayden frowns. “Change of tune then. Not that he could argue with fate. Mates are mates. Are they managing against Night Shade?”

I slowly shake my head. “He wouldn’t give much information. But we know what they are capable of.”

I place four mugs of coffee onto the table, hoping that Evelyn and Aiden had at least finished with one another for the day, and are close to arriving or else this breakfast was going to waste. I think it’s weird she is being more attentive to Cayden. Is she not supposed to love them all the same.
