Elena also remembers the day she met Archer. The day she ran away from hell.
She was walking through the dense forest, with her lungs aching and her throat feeling like on fire. This was the border of the Dark River Pack. She had been away from home and living here for three months. And just now, she took down her despicable twin sister Eliana who found her, then ran wild for miles and got rid of thirteen male wolf guards.
It was no wonder that they went to such lengths to get her. She was Beta’s daughter, knowing everything about their Alpha Xavier’s dirty business of selling virgins; and the best was, she became the only virgin left in the Dark River Pack after they sold her best friend Bella three months ago.
Determined to rescue Bella, she left home.
Now deep in the forest, she finally relaxed a little. There were no guards around here. Xavier never allowed any she-wolves to be trained in case they gained physical ability and skills to escape. And since they couldn't escape, there was no need to guard the forest.
But ever since Bella and she found out what Xavier was using the she-wolves for, they had been training themselves privately. They kept learning how to survive in the wild, and headed to the forest from time to time to find an escape route.
They were close to success. But still, just after Bella's first shift, she was dragged onto a fish boat by her heartless brother and sent to the Full Moon Island, a place where the human billionaires and politicians collected virgin wolves for sex.
With dark memories on her mind and grief in her heart, Elena walked up to a hill. Over this hill would be that island of sin. After three months of exploration, she finally found the right path to save Bella. But for now, she needed to drink some water to keep herself alive.
Elena looked around carefully and found moss on the trees and ferns on the ground. The heavy moisture indicated that she would find water in this area.
Some animal tracks came into her sight. Following the tracks, she found a small babbling stream. She fell to her knees by it and took a big gulp. The bacteria and pathogens in the stream might be problems to her weak stomach, but it’s not the time to worry about that.
She couldn't remember the last time she'd had enough to eat. Since Bella had been sent away, she had left her hated home and wandered into this forest, never knowing if her next meal could be on the table.
But even if she remained at home, she couldn't enjoy her food either. Staring at her haggard face reflected on the surface of water, Elena thought glumly.
She reached out to stir the water and washed her face, and then turned to climb the hill behind her.
The hill was not tall, bare with only rocks. So Elena was literally climbing on all her fours, which required for so much effort.
She was so concentrated on her way up, and suddenly, all her fine hair stood on end. It was her wolf Laurel's silent warning. Elena stopped right away without making any noises, lifted her head and looked up. Her eyes widened.
A male wolf guard was just yawning above her.
Damn it! She was too careless!
How could Xavier not reinforce the border guard since he’d known that she was gone? And the forest was so vast that she must have missed the patrol he sent here.
This scrawny man must be one of the patrol soldiers.
Elena forced herself to calm down and take a closer look at the guard. Her Beta parents had a roster of all the werewolves in the pack. She'd seen this guy on it, an incompetent Omega.
After all these years of war, they had few males left, so the enlistment requirements were lowered. Any males of any ranks could be enforcers.
Elena knew his younger sister, who was sold too. She’d ever taken Elena on a peek at the male wolves’ training. Her brother couldn't even beat an 11-year-old boy at that time. Elena thought she had a chance to beat him. And she had to beat him.
She took a deep breath and called out to Laurel in her mind.
"Bear with me." Laurel answered at once, "It won't hurt for too long."
Elena didn’t respond to Laurel’s comfort and kindness. She just gritted her teeth to keep from groaning and began her shift.
Without noticing anything, the guard glanced lazily at his feet and turned to walk away. Elena, in her wolf form, seized the moment and lunged on him from behind. The guard was tackled down to the ground. The she-wolf opened her mouth to sink her fangs into his neck, but he instantly slammed her to the ground and got to his feet. His eyes glittered with surprise, "You delivered yourself, little bitch!"
Elena was shocked. She had been keeping distance from male wolves and never realized there was such a power disparity between a male and a female. The weak guy was even not in his wolf form! But look how easily he got rid of her.
She bared her teeth as a bluff, attempting to look more menacing, but heard he saying, "You should really take a lesson from your sister. She's much better behaved than you, that's why Alpha Xavier chose her as his Luna."
Laurel let out a growl, using mind-link to transfer Elena’s anger, “SHE IS NOT! They never had a mate bond. Xavier is as old as our father and he just uses her as a sex toy! She's no different from those girls he sold."
"There's a big difference.” The guard mocked at her ignorance, “Those girls are fucked by countless men, but Eliana only needs to be fucked by one."
He gave an obscene smile, getting close to the she-wolf step by step, "Now I have the right to be the one for you. Make your choice: You fuck with me, or I send you to be fucked by the pervert humans."
"FUCK YOU!" Laurel growled fiercely as Elena was overcome with rage. She charged recklessly, and the guard turned to a black wolf just in time.
He leapt up at his heels in an instant, opening his bloody mouth to start his counterattack. Rolling on the ground and back up in panic, she narrowly dodged his vicious bite.
He pursued her, forcing her to the hole in the tree, and then blocking the hole in the next second, leaving her no way back, like a cat teasing a mouse.
Elena was horrified and ashamed. Her original plan was to use a wolf's huge bite force to kill the man in one blow. But she never had a will or chance to practice with Laurel, and underestimated her opponent. His speed, strength, and reflexes were so much better than hers that she had little room to fight back.
But she couldn't lose. She let out a long, low growl and charged once again toward her seemingly invincible enemy. They torn and scratched, pounced on each other to the ground, and immediately got up again, ready for the next attack.
She didn't know how long the fight went on; she only knew that no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't subdue the male wolf.
Gradually, she ran out of energy.
Seeing her exhaustion, the black wolf swooped in so quickly and pressed his claws around her throat, pinning her to the ground. The she-wolf wriggled and struggled, slapping her paws against his, unable to breathe.
Such a torture caused her to transform back into her human form. The black wolf closed in on her face and changed back to the skinny, leering guard as well, "The weak shouldn't go against the strong." With that, he grabbed her boobs relentlessly.
Elena gasped, realizing clearly what was about to happen to her. Fear drove her to rack her brain to come up with a reason to convince him, "The humans want virgins, and I'm the only virgin Xavier can offer now! I am too precious to be taken by a low-status werewolf just like you!"
"Oh, you think too highly of yourself.” The guard giggled, “Xavier has started capturing girls from other packs. Even if you die here, he would not care."
He sniffed greedily at Elena's scent, "You smell so good. No wonder Xavier won't let us get close to girls. I want a mate, you know? You might be my only chance in my life."
How pathetic.
But Elena had no time to sympathize with the bastard as he was tearing her shorts into pieces. She closed her eyes for a second, trying her best to be steady as a rock. She had gone to great lengths to get here, how could she let this shameless scoundrel interrupt her?
Panting, she patiently waited till the moment he got a little back off to loose his trousers, and gave him a hard kick at his balls!
“I’LL NEVER MATE ANYONE!”
As she shouted her oath out, he screamed and let go of her. Elena rolled over and picked up a sharp stone. With a heartfelt roar, she stabbed it into his exposed penis. The failed rapist lost consciousness at once out of the pain.
It was her first victory against a male.
Elena spat hard at the motionless man, and wiped off his hot blood splashed on her face, making up her mind: she would win more against whoever attempt to rape other girls.
With red eyes, dragging her bruised and battered body, Elena stumbled toward the foot of the hill. The Full Moon Island was close at hand already.
However, her legs were weak and feeble, and the downward slope was so steep that she tripped over. She bumped her entire body on rocks in various places along the way rolling down. And although shielding her stomach to protect her internal organs, she still hit a boulder.
She must have hurt herself somewhere. Elena thought vaguely.
But in so much pain, she could barely scream but let out a muffled grunt, and then she fall heavily to a dirty puddle at the bottom of the hill, unable to get up at all.
Bella...
Bewildered and helpless, she whispered her best friend’s name in her heart, lifting her head towards the direction where Full Moon Island was supposed to be.
Everything is a blur in her eyes, but a god-like figure coming into view.
"...AN ALPHA...HIS SCENT..."
Elena stared straight ahead, not really comprehending what Laurel is howling about.
"HE IS OUR MATE!!!"
Ignoring Laurel’s reminder of her fate, Elena passed out.
If you had asked 20-year-old Archer whether he wanted to mate with a girl, he would have said no. At that time, he was not that charming, powerful, “hard to resist”-- quoted from the girls who’d ever dated with himduring the following 4 years; and also because, he didn’t believe he was capable tomake his mate happy. He’dnever learned that. And he hadno one to learn from. His father Robert was an unawakened werewolf, never shifting inhis life, almost a normal human. He lived in human’s society as an old bachelor wholoved to drink, scarcely contacting his wolf relativesfar in the wild. No accomplishments. No skills. Other than making woodwork that had gone unnoticed in the high-tech era. Until he met his mother, Violet, a strong and beautiful she-wolf. Before falling in love with Robert, Violet was a free and lonely 17-year-old rogue girl, enjoying her aimless traveling. Robert picked her up&n
Now let’s go back to the day Archer met Elena. "Sheis our mate."His wolf Leo murmured calmly in his mind, “I am sosure this time.” Archer stared at Elena in disbelief. He hadbeen alone for solong, and Leo hadmisidentified so many differentgirlsthat he thoughthe could neverfindher. And this time, he didn't even specially come for her. But there she was, laying in a puddleright in front, looking up straightly at him. She looked dying and ragged. Her pale skin covered in bruisesand blood. Her thin face expressionless. And her bloodshot dark eyes burning with a calm, persistent fire. There was something wrong with-- Before his thought was finished, he saw her eyes closed and her head dropped down in the muddy water. “Holy shit! Go save her! ”growled Leo toward him, but he didn’t move. Her miserable state reminded him
"Youare so stiff and curled up like a baby. It's a sign of insecurity. Doc said that. The hot water, and my embrace--”Archerchuckledas he explained the treatment to Elena, “-- canmimic the fluid inawomb. You’ll be warm and safe in my watery arms." She loveshis monologue. Sounds gentle. Elena listened with blurred consciousness, notopening her eyes. She felt herself being placed into a large hard container, and hernaked back pressed against the cold tiles, makingher shiver. But the next second, she was lifted a little and a thick, warm body served as her cushion. "Sorry, I should have asked Lydia to pourthewater infirst." Creak. The sound of a faucet being turned open. The hot flow came through it, slowly floodingover her. But her skin was too soft and thin with so many cuts and scratches, th
Elena woke up to find herself in a soft bed, covered with a white quilt, clean, warm and comfortable. She sat up straightenedalertly. This was not her room. She hadn't slept in such a nice bed in a long time. Where was she? "You're awake!" A beautiful girl with brown hair and green eyes came inwith a food tray, lookingat her with a surprisedsmile. Elena stared at her warily and didn't say anything back. "Don't be panic, you're safe.”The girl said softlywith understanding in her eyes, “My name is Lydia,Archer's Interior Officer. What’s your name?” Elena stared at her for a moment, deciding that just telling her firstname wouldn’t give away her identity. “...Elena.” “Nice to meet you, Elena. We’re happy to have you here."Lydia gave her the most friendly smile, “So is Archer.” “Who is Archer?...Aw.”Elena cleared her throat, realizingher voice was as rough
"Now we know who our Luna is." After relaying Lydia’s mind-link report to Archer, Issac concluded. “Elena, the daughter of the Dark River Pack’s Beta, and the only girl who escaped from she-wolves trafficking.” “Thank Moon Goddess.”Archer murmured with one hand on his forehead, “She had a twin sister who was sacrificed to the 50-year-old Alpha by their beta parents. Maybe they tried to sacrifice her too.” Leo grounded his fangs in his mind, “Don’t forget Bella, dude. That’s her best and only friend and they sold her too. WHAT A DEN OF MONSTERS!” “I know.”Archer soothed him and turned to Issac, who continued his report, “Alpha Xavier is the one behind that. Lilian is just one of his victims.” “Our friends of other species also found girls missing.”said Archer, “We should pay a visit to some of them for more clues.” "Speaking of clues, this is what the mermaids got for us.”Issac handed Archer a file, “They lurked
It’s him. Alpha Archer. Elena staredat him in silence, panting and sensing Laurel strikingher heart-wall in huge excitement. Lup-dup! Lup-dup! She pressed on her left breast, trying to use all her strength to block her wolf, but with little success. “Why are you here?” asked Elena, shivering unknowingly. Archer wondered if she knew the look on her face at thismoment:alittlewaryoutof suspicion, andso much longing forrejoice being saved. “I’m here for you.” He answered quietly. They stared at each other for a moment. Elena was the first to look awayandexhaled heavily,"Thank you for everythingyou helped." “Hmm. Sounds like you’re saying goodbye.” Chucklingwith interest, Archer gotback a little to spare some space for her. Elena gavehim a quick glance and sat up as he tucked a cushion behind her. “I’m not.
“Why are you males always so sure when you talk about mating?” Elena murmured, literally confused, “Xavier promised Eliana to mate with her, but the fact was, he just marked her and convinced her to believe that was mating. And he still sleeps with other women!” She looked away from his gaze, “Dad matedwith mom but he seldom treats her well either. So what is mating exactly? Just sex?” “I was confused too.” Archer said, “And I’m so glad that I was not the only one confused with this question.” “Was?” His words drew Elena’s eyes back, “You’re not confused any more?” Archer grabbed her little hand and put it on his chest. His heart pounding under her palm, as heavily and fast as hers. “I don’t think I am, after I find my mate.” Elena gasped and withdrewher hand, lowering her blushed face. “It'sthe first time it beats like this.” whispered Archer, “SoI can be sure. But I don’t know Xavier, or other males. I never d
Archer led Elena into the largest restaurantof the Silver Mountain Pack. Along the way, a number of passersby cast amazedglances at Elena, making her feel less than comfortable. The dress did suit her, and with adequate nutrition and sleep, she was looking good. But it had been a long time sincethe last timeshe waswell-dressed. Every now and then she pulled downthe hem of the dress to cover her slender thighs. Dressing like this couldn’t makeher feel safe. "Anything wrong?" Archer asked with concern, noticing her depression and silence. "Yes." Elena replied honestly, "The dress could get me in trouble." “How come?”Archer stopped and looked around, “You are impressing everyone.” “That’s the problem.”said Elena, “I’m not supposed to draw so much attention to myself.” Archer frowned, but still shieldedher from the curious stares,"You’re pretty. Pretty girls will naturally d
