The next couple weeks are more of the same. They go to school, train, and hang out in the downtime they have. Sometimes Tyler ends up dragged into some semi-official alpha education with Alpha Lars. Until one day at training. Roger shouts for everyone to get back to the pack house immediately.
"What's going on?" Vincent asks. Before he can answer they hear shouting and growling in the distance."Rogues!" Someone shouts."Get him out of here," Roger looks at Lia gesturing to Tyler."Me?""You know the woods best, I know you can do this." Roger mind links her as he heads in the direction of growling. "Go now!""Just follow me!" Lia shouts to the group. Tyler and Jael nod and follow her."Who put you in charge?!" Vincent shouts."Roger, duh!" Jael asserts."Or don't follow, it's your life!" She shouts back."Shouldn't we help?" Tyler asks as they hurry towards the main pack territory. They aren't going too fast so that the group can stay together."Not our job yet," one of the other students says."I know but-""A visiting Alpha's son gets mauled in a Rogues attack. Oh your dad will love that headline," Jael says."I can hold my own," Tyler grumbles."I'm sure you can," Lia says as they clear a downed tree. "But Roger says go, we go." She adds more to herself than to the others. "They say run, you run. Always." Tyler didn't miss the added bit.The pack house is a chaotic mass of activity as they get close. She is just about to tell them to go when Hannah, the pack Gamma's mate sees them."Alpha Tyler, there you are! This way. All of you." She leads them into the heart of the pack house. Where many of the families and children have been gathered. "Stay here." She hurries off."Tyler!" Gemma comes rushing over to him. "I'm glad you're okay.""Did you think he wasn't?" Jael asks."You were all in the woods, and if you haven't noticed, rogues are attacking." Gemma glares."We should be doing more," Tyler says."Nonsense, that is what the warriors are trained for," Gemma states."What do you think we were training for?" He looks at her."You're not a warrior," Gemma adds.Jael gasps. Lia groans. That was the wrong answer."No, I'm an alpha," he growls. "And alpha's don't run from a fight.""Then why are you-" Gemma starts."If you want to help, then help them." Lia interrupts, gestures to people. "You can stand here and be annoyed or you can use your other skills and help the pack." She goes over to help a woman that is holding a towel to her shoulder. She carefully looks at the injury. "It's already healing, just try to not to move it too much. She goes to find someone else that needs help. She isn't surprised when a small force slams into her legs."It's okay, Saige," Lia smiles and pick the small child up. "Nothing you dads and the others can't handle."She hears a huff of a laugh and turns to see a frazzled female omega. "I should have known she would run off to find you.""Hi Lori," Lia smiles."You shouldn't run off from Lori like that, not in an emergency, kiddo," Lia says to the little girl. "It's dangerous.""But it's you!" Saige grins.Lia chuckles. "I know but your dads entrust Lori to look after you during the day. That's her job. You wouldn't want your dads to be upset with Lori, do you?""It's okay," Lori smiles. "This time. She is her father's daughter and you are Roger's star pupil.""He was my dad's best student for a reason.""That he was."Tyler looked up when he heard Lia laugh. He was shocked to find her standing there with a small child on her hip having a normal conversation. He gets an elbow to the ribs and growls."Oh stop it, I only did it because someone is going to catch you drooling over Lia. And you're lucky that someone is me," Jael smirks"I wasnt-""Sure Tyler.""Who is that?" Tyler asks, ignoring her sarcasm."Lori, she's an omega that helps look after some of the tots. She's a cousin of Roger's mate. If you mean the little girl, that's Roger's daughter, Saige. Lia watches her sometimes on weekends. Saige is practically her shadow when she's around.""Huh, guess I didn't realize Lia was that close with Roger. I mean I figured she was just his favorite because she has those championships.""Oh no, Roger was her dad's best student. Linus taught Roger everything he knows, so when Linus was killed in an attack, Roger stepped up and helped look after Lia and her siblings. Then when Nash was old enough he took over guardianship and Roger started his own family. So Saige is basically her little sister.""So Roger is like her dad," Tyler reasoned."Oh big time, he just tries to not let it show too much during training. He doesn't want her getting singled out any more than she already is.""I can watch her, Lori. I'm sure you have you hands full with the others.""Thank you, Lia." Lori disappears into the crowded room. Lia sets Saige down but keeps her little hand tucked in her own. They make their way over to Jael and Tyler."See, like a shadow," Jael whispers to Tyler."Hey, kiddo," Jael smiles at Saige. "Hi Jae," Saige mumbles but she is staring at Tyler. Tyler looks between Jael and Lia."I'm not exactly great with kids," he admits, avoiding looking at the small child who is just staring at him.Lia grins. "Saige, this is Tyler, he is one of your dad's students. He is from another pack.""You know my dad?" Saige says. "Uh yeah," Tyler nods. "He's a good trainer."It is awkwardly quiet for a moment before Saige smiles at him. The small child begins talking the younger alpha's ear off now that she knows he is not a dangerous stranger really. Tyler isn't sure what to do. So he just nods and listens to the little girl talk. He glances up at Lia when Saige let's go o
Lia shuts off her alarm as she wakes up like she does every other day, but stops by her desk after getting dressed. There was a good sized box with a ribbon on her desk and a smaller one next to it. She opens the larger of the two and finds a new pair of shoes she had been telling her brother she wanted for training, but they had been a bit pricey and she was going to ask James about getting. Nash had got them for her. She set them aside and opens the small one. It had a set of headbands in it that had various flowers on them. She picked up one that had collarette dahlias. She notices another with waterlily dahlias. "Bit on the nose, but lovely," Nova grins in her mind. "Wear the waterlily one." She redoes her hair with the new headband. "Happy Birthday, Lia," Nova tells her as Lia looks in the mirror."Thanks, Nova," Lia smiles. "We could find our mate any day now," Nova reminds her. "Maybe," Lia nods. "You should head down soon, your family may think they are being stealthy, bu
No one complains when Roger lets them out of training earlier than usual. "Saige is so excited you guys are coming over for dinner," Roger says as they leave the training grounds. "Cam is cooking, so of course, we'll be there," Jael teases. "I should make you run laps for that, but I'll let It slide, this time because it's Lia's birthday." “So kind of you,” Jael grins. Lia and Tyler just watches the back and forth with amusement. Tyler was familiar with the fact by now that Jael will argue with anyone no matter what power or authority they might have. Her friends and family having to rein her in. Or at least that is how she was when it came to defending, and sometimes just interacting with, people she cares about. “Go home,” Roger tells them all as he shakes his head. “Happy birthday, Lia.” “Thanks, Roger.” They all head home to get ready for her birthday dinner. She lets herself into her home. It is quiet, as it usually is this time of day. Her brother is on patrol, but he alw
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” Saige shouts as loud as her little lungs can when Roger opens the door to let them in.“Thanks, Saige,” Lia laughs as she accepts the hug from the little girl. She waved at Nix and Tyler, who were talking in the living room. Lia was surprised to see Nix there. She knew he was Cameron’s half-brother, but she figured he’d be on patrol. She looked at Roger.“He managed to swap his shift with Harris for the night. Harris says ‘Happy Birthday’.”“That’s nice of him,” she gives a sad smile. She wished the same could have happened for her brother. She knows Nash was bothered by the fact that he couldn’t get out of his duties for one night. James had tried, but Beta Oliver was not having it. Oliver had insisted their best Warriors couldn’t be caught slacking. Everyone was putting in overtime. Birthdays happen every day in a pack their size. If every Warrior took it off, they would have a weaker defense. And that was not acceptable. “You okay?” Roger asks through a mind link
Tyler looks at her as they walk."You'd make a good Luna," he tells her. "I don't know about that," she tells him."I do. You're smart. You care about your pack. You are kind.""A good Luna wouldn't run from-""A good Luna gets everyone to safety and is the last line of defense for those that are more vulnerable.""Doesn't matter, though. I'm sure when you find your mate., You'll have the best Luna.""You never know. It could be you. And a lot of alphas choose a mate. One they know will be a strong Luna."She looks at him and can tell he is absolutely serious. "Tyler…""Just…you know, think about it.""You would be a great Luna," Nova tells her. "But our mate will love us. It is worth the wait.""You don't think it could be him?" "You will always have your friends. A bond is a bond, mate or not. Forged in time or by the goddess, it is still a gift." "I hope you're right.""Anyone that cannot see the value in those bonds is not worth keeping. Respect is for more than just the Alpha
Over the next few weeks, Lia kept catching an amazing scent, but when she did, it was usually fading, and she could never find the source. Nova was getting frustrated. She knew it was their mate. Lia kept this between them. The thought of her conversation with Tyler was ever-present in her mind. It was disappointing knowing that this meant there was no chance Tyler was their mate. He wasn’t 18 yet. The scent couldn’t be his. She was even more crestfallen when Tyler’s stay came to an end. He had to return home to his pack and his future duties."You'll have to come to visit me soon," Tyler says, trying to hide the disappointment of leaving people he had grown to care about. A car waits behind him."Invite us to your birthday," Jael says. "Our alpha would be foolish not to let us go.""He would be." Tyler looks at an alpha's 18th is a big deal.""Only second to his alpha ceremony," Lia states."And his mating ceremony," he says, his eyes never leaving Lia's. She looks away. She hadn’t t
Nova is equally confused but confirms it. "He is our mate. Say something." "George," she says. "Come with me." He grabs her arm and starts pulling her towards the pack house. She barely has time to close the door behind her. "I have to get to training. Roger is going to be mad if I don't -" she protests."He'll get over it," George says. As he pushes through the pack house door, pulling her behind him.“I already missed school today. I can’t miss training,” she tells him. “It’s just one session,” George tells her. Unaware that her voice had caught the attention of her godfather. James dropped what he was doing and was in the hallway in seconds. His wolf was angered by what he was seeing. "What is going on here?" James demands. He is beside Lia in an instant. "Let her go, George."George growls. But James is not about to let anything happen to his goddaughter. He would fight his friend’s son if he needed to. "I said let her go," James repeated in a more authoritative tone, steppi
Roger is concerned when Lia arrives late to training. She looks upset, and he does not like it. "What's wrong?" He asks. "You are never late to training."He has already sent the rest of them off on their warm-up run. "I know…you won't believe what just happened." She goes on to tell him what happened with George and how James and Gunnar stepped in. Roger is less than happy about the whole thing. "It just doesn't make sense to me, or Nova. Like, Nova agrees, he's our mate, but…I don't even know him, and his sister hates me. James seemed unsettled by it.""Tell that beta kid you barely know him and that you want to go slow. As James said, if he can't accept that, then let us know. He doesn't get to force you into anything just because you are mates.""Thanks, Roger." She hugs him."You know we will always be here to help. Cam, James, all of us," Roger assures her. "Now, why don't you catch up to the others and see how
