Chapter 4: Go now

The next couple weeks are more of the same. They go to school, train, and hang out in the downtime they have. Sometimes Tyler ends up dragged into some semi-official alpha education with Alpha Lars. Until one day at training. Roger shouts for everyone to get back to the pack house immediately.

"What's going on?" Vincent asks.

Before he can answer they hear shouting and growling in the distance.

"Rogues!" Someone shouts.

"Get him out of here," Roger looks at Lia gesturing to Tyler.

"Me?"

"You know the woods best, I know you can do this." Roger mind links her as he heads in the direction of growling. "Go now!"

"Just follow me!" Lia shouts to the group. Tyler and Jael nod and follow her.

"Who put you in charge?!" Vincent shouts.

"Roger, duh!" Jael asserts.

"Or don't follow, it's your life!" She shouts back.

"Shouldn't we help?" Tyler asks as they hurry towards the main pack territory. They aren't going too fast so that the group can stay together.

"Not our job yet," one of the other students says.

"I know but-"

"A visiting Alpha's son gets mauled in a Rogues attack. Oh your dad will love that headline," Jael says.

"I can hold my own," Tyler grumbles.

"I'm sure you can," Lia says as they clear a downed tree. "But Roger says go, we go." She adds more to herself than to the others. "They say run, you run. Always." Tyler didn't miss the added bit.

The pack house is a chaotic mass of activity as they get close.

She is just about to tell them to go when Hannah, the pack Gamma's mate sees them.

"Alpha Tyler, there you are! This way. All of you." She leads them into the heart of the pack house. Where many of the families and children have been gathered. "Stay here." She hurries off.

"Tyler!" Gemma comes rushing over to him. "I'm glad you're okay."

"Did you think he wasn't?" Jael asks.

"You were all in the woods, and if you haven't noticed, rogues are attacking." Gemma glares.

"We should be doing more," Tyler says.

"Nonsense, that is what the warriors are trained for," Gemma states.

"What do you think we were training for?" He looks at her.

"You're not a warrior," Gemma adds.

Jael gasps. Lia groans. That was the wrong answer.

"No, I'm an alpha," he growls. "And alpha's don't run from a fight."

"Then why are you-" Gemma starts.

"If you want to help, then help them." Lia interrupts, gestures to people. "You can stand here and be annoyed or you can use your other skills and help the pack." She goes over to help a woman that is holding a towel to her shoulder. She carefully looks at the injury. "It's already healing, just try to not to move it too much. She goes to find someone else that needs help. She isn't surprised when a small force slams into her legs.

"It's okay, Saige," Lia smiles and pick the small child up. "Nothing you dads and the others can't handle."

She hears a huff of a laugh and turns to see a frazzled female omega. "I should have known she would run off to find you."

"Hi Lori," Lia smiles.

"You shouldn't run off from Lori like that, not in an emergency, kiddo," Lia says to the little girl. "It's dangerous."

"But it's you!" Saige grins.

Lia chuckles. "I know but your dads entrust Lori to look after you during the day. That's her job. You wouldn't want your dads to be upset with Lori, do you?"

"It's okay," Lori smiles. "This time. She is her father's daughter and you are Roger's star pupil."

"He was my dad's best student for a reason."

"That he was."

Tyler looked up when he heard Lia laugh. He was shocked to find her standing there with a small child on her hip having a normal conversation.

He gets an elbow to the ribs and growls.

"Oh stop it, I only did it because someone is going to catch you drooling over Lia. And you're lucky that someone is me," Jael smirks

"I wasnt-"

"Sure Tyler."

"Who is that?" Tyler asks, ignoring her sarcasm.

"Lori, she's an omega that helps look after some of the tots. She's a cousin of Roger's mate. If you mean the little girl, that's Roger's daughter, Saige. Lia watches her sometimes on weekends. Saige is practically her shadow when she's around."

"Huh, guess I didn't realize Lia was that close with Roger. I mean I figured she was just his favorite because she has those championships."

"Oh no, Roger was her dad's best student. Linus taught Roger everything he knows, so when Linus was killed in an attack, Roger stepped up and helped look after Lia and her siblings. Then when Nash was old enough he took over guardianship and Roger started his own family. So Saige is basically her little sister."

"So Roger is like her dad," Tyler reasoned.

"Oh big time, he just tries to not let it show too much during training. He doesn't want her getting singled out any more than she already is."
