Chapter 91

I left right after Edric fell asleep. It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. I dragged my old backpack from the closet, throwing out the ratty old clothes and replacing it with the newer jeans and shorts Edric bought me.

I went into the living room and saw him stretched out on the couch, his arm flung over his scarred chest, sweat pouring down his body, fists clenched. He moaned softly and flipped on his stomach. He mumbled in his sleep, as he so often does these days, then let out a strangled cry. My heart broke, and I almost changed my mind.

More than anything, I want to wipe those memories from his mind, but it’s not in my power. I can make him stop feeling the emotions attached to the memories, and if he asks I’ll do it, but deep down I know it’s a bad idea. I can do more harm than good.
