Forced to wed Hades, the God of the underworld, Persephone lived a miserable life despite being the daughter of Zeus. She found her bestfriend in her own brother Kratos who, like her was betrayed by their own. They were more than similar than they thought they were not.
She was born from Demeter and Zeus and she was favored by her mother, Demeter. The goddess of Agriculture. But Zeus, then the King of the Gods, was ruthless and would not accept no for an answer, he still made her marry off to a hideous being that know nothing but heat and soot and soot and heat.
Persephone had other plans for herself, she was the Goddess and personification of Earth’s fruitfulness, being the offspring of an agriculture Goddess. She was full of life, ideology and love for the humans until the day that she was confronted by the truth that even her own, would betray her and leave her in the underworld. To be abused, humiliated and treated like a vermin.
The underworld was a far cry from Mount Olympus and it made her mad, fulled by her rage and of extreme jealousy towards the race that her father favored more than his own daughter---she made it her own personal vendetta to eradicate them all. But her father and her siblings are far more stronger than she is, so she had deviced a plan. A plan to slowly deteriorate mankind from the inside. Also, filled with wrath, she made her husband her own slave, available to her constant beck and call. Persephone wanted to kill Hades--but not just yet. When she look at her father's creation from the underworld. Her anger and frustration grew wilder and uncontrollable. To get even without raising suspiscion on her name, she turned one of them into a sin-eater.
A sin-eater is someone who eats flesh and drinks blood and infects.
And the first vampire was born.
He was Hector Battenberg. She found her in a abandoned graveyard when she was looking for the perfect person to do her bidding, dressed as a milk maiden, she had all the time in the world to roam the city of Sozopol without raising suspicion. A poor farmer who was grieving the death of her wife and infant son who died of a plague. But Persophone had to make a deal, the man’s approval of her demands in return of the lives of his loved one. It was important that he did it out of freewill and not forced. Even her father was aware of this law in Olympus. To seal the deal, it must be made out of free will. When Hector agreed, Persephone bit him himself and watched as the man withered in pain as the transformation took place. Persophone was glad as she watched him agonizing in pain, turning into the sin-eater she wanted.
“Arghhhh, I am in pain! Wha-aaa-at have you done to me?”
Hector was in the ground, filled with dirt and still writhing. His veins were pulsing and then it stopped. When he stood up again, he was calm and pale and now a sin-eater.
“What do you feel, now?” Persephone asked.
“I feel strong, invigorated and ten folds better. What did you do? What of my family?”
Persephone smiled, an eerie smile that did not reached her eyes. With a wave of her hand, the ground broke pen and the wooden coffin that encased his wife and child were cracked open. There lied a woman and her child, peacefully sleeping, but they were not sleeping--they are dead.
“Bite them and they shall live.”
The now sin-eater did as he was told, went down to the coffin and as quickly as he bit them both, they moved and writhed and was soon awake, the woman and the child was staring at the two figures that towered over them.
“Hector, dear? Is that you?” The woman cried in desperation, realizing what just happened to her and her child.
“It is I, dear.” Hector's smile was creepily deathly.
“You have brought us back, how?” As her husband helped her out of the wooden coffin, the child in her arm was cooing and abnormally awake and active.
“Do as I told you, Hector.” Persephone was about to leave. “ Oh, and by the way, there is a castle not far away from here, I believe it is yours from now on.Do not worry about a thing now, I have taken care of everything, all you have to do is to keep your end of the bargain and I will surely check in with you from time to time.”
The couple just stood there as they watched her vanish behind a dead tree that stood in the middle of the graveyard. They both know that the castle belonged to the ruthless Earl that took away all of their belongings and almost half of the town’s possession by imposing an increase in the tax every quarter of the year. While the people of Sozopol died of hunger, the Earl lived well and never famished. But they did as what they were told and made their way to the castle. To their surprise, they were welcomed by the guards and by the butler , there was no Earl on sight and that strike them both as weird.
“Aaah, my lord, I know that you are tired and weary, we have prepared a dinner for you.” The butler said.
And he lead them to the dining hall, where they found the ruthless Earl staked in the long wooden table, half alive and ready for them to devour. When the butler closed the door to let them have their fill, they both felt a hunger so strong with the scent of the blood that was oozing out from the Earl’s stake wounds.
“Let me out of here! Set me free! You lowly pheasants!” The Earl screamed at the top of his voice.
“Why would we do that?” Hector said, licking his lips. Strangely, the man felt the urge to dig his teeth onto the mans soft flesh, just behind the ear where he could see the pulse beating wildly carrying massive amounts of blood into his head.
“Because I am an Earl and I give the orders and I said so!!” He sputtered in anger.
“Dear, I believe that Cornelius is hungry, let us feed him first.” Margo, Hector’s wife suggested.
“Woman, unstake me first and mind that son of yours!”
The Earl, no matter how helpless still failed to recognize who wield the power now. He was linded by his title and authority that even in desperate and in between life and death situations, he still thinks of himself superior among anybody else. This angered Persephone more. She was watching in secret. She wanted to see what her creation would do about a horrible human. If it was up to her, she could just snap his head and go on. But this was a test.
What the new sin-eater did was remarkable. Truly, women are far superior than men and the Goddess was smiling now, confident that her plans were in full swing.
Margo, uncovered the child and said:
“Son, feed.”
And the child, though still an infant, leapt from her mother’s arm and went straight for the man’s jugular ans sunk his little baby fangs and blood spurted.
Zachary’s POVI did not know how I reached home.Myabe a magic carpet brought me here. I made a joke out of myself. I was bad at telling jokes. But when I opened my eyes, I can tell that I was back on my rented cottage. I reached for my phone, which by habit, I know was on the bedside table. The time was ten in the morning. Weird. I have no recollection whatsoever of what happened last night. I am pretty certain that I have not consumed any alcoholic beverages while I was on my way here. The idea that someone could have drugged me sounded plausible. It was not uncommon to be roofied even back home. I bolted from the bed and checked my luggage, it was still locked and was not even opened since last night to see if i still have my belongings. “Hmm, must be jet lag.” I convinced myself. Now that the whole place was flooded by natural light, I could see now that the place was indeed a steal, whoever decorated this place was severely talented. The wooden floor and the simple furniture ma
Helena’s POVLike any siblings that roamed the Earth, take Cain and Abel for an example--there will always be sibling rivalry and the parents have their favorites no matter how much they try to deny it. My mother’s favorite was Maddox. I really do not mind, as long as I have full access to the family wealth. They can team up and I still do not care. I am my father’s favorite and when he passed on , I felt indifferent, alone. Sometimes I think Persephone visits me in my dreams.“Where the hell is Maddox?” Solandra roared in search for her favorite child.“I do not know, and while you look for him, I am gonna go out in a while. It is a bit cloudy. “I did not hear any protests from my mother. I am no longer surprised, I have lived three hundred years and I have not received a single strand of concern or worry from her, even if I blatantly announced that I would go out in broad daylight. I will take the car, park in the in-parking lot and go to a cafe or a mall. Whatever I fancy.I Chan
Helena rushed to the parking lot and drove as fast as she could. She almost crashed into a flower vendor because she needed to go home. The Duchess needed to know what she had seen. It would flip her and witnessing her mother flip because of an imbecile who disrespects the decree she so valued among the other decrees she had imposed to keep their race alive was almost exhilirating for her. Solandra will exhaust everything under her command to find the identity of the culprit. No one dares to insult her by disobeying her.She paused for a while when she saw on her rear view mirror the look of dismay and defeat of the vendor she had almost ran over. She know that look. The look of disappointment. Her foot on the gas pedal wanted to go ahead and forget what she was looking at, but her head says otherwise. She grabbed her purse and disembarked her car.“I am sorry, I was just in a hurry.” She apologized at the woman.“I know.” The vendor said. From this proximity, Helena can tell that sh
Zac’s POVThe woman I met in the Cafe was very pretty, yeah, sure. It could have been a better encounter of two tourists who ended up spending the day together because they find each others company rather fun and for anyone who have never traveled alone, it is a bit reassuring to get along well with another person who is as foreign as you are. What was her name again?Elen? Helen? Ahhh... It was Helena. Helena what, I do not remember. I was good with numbers but not with names. Ugh.She was very warm and happy and if she could have stayed a bit longer, he would have built the courage to ask her out for dinner later. But she did a Cinderella on him, the only difference was that Cinderella left her glass slippers, she did not. Before he knew it, she was gone, she came in hot and left hot too.“Well, at least you made a friend.” Ken was laughing after he recounted the story to his brother for the fifth time today. “She was really pretty.” “No photos, not sure she was, bro.”“Just trus
Helena had time to spare . The rest of the sin-eaters will arrive around midnight because no matter how modern they claim to be, and no matter how many centuries have passed, midnight will always hold a special place in their unbeating hearts. It was early and she felt bored. Something tells her that she needed to see that Zac again. To her, he was a curious case. In the history of sin-eaters since their creation, no one was like him. He was supposed to be just food but he was not. A living proof that anomalies can happen. He lived. She took her time and liberty to read the books and records of their race in her father’s study. Nicolas Battenberg was known to have kept meticulous records of their race since their inception. It was her father’s legacy. She was well versed to some of the hundreds of books but she knew that something was missing. That there must be a text or a mere mention of a case as peculiar as Zac’s. There has to be. Her father was very careful and excellent in keepi
Zachary was on cloud nine when Helena showed on his doorstep. He was beginning to love Bulgaria more and more. After taking the mandatory selfie that Ken was asking to prove that he had met a girl and that she was cool with it, he asked Helena out. He asked her in the most unromantic way there is but he did.“Let me see, you wanted to take me out for dinner huh?” ‘’Yeah, if that is okay with you.” They are now in the balcony enjoying the view of Sozopol night lights, from this view, they seem to be firefly lights that never moved. They did not drink the rum because it was not his and it was inappropriate to take what’s not included in your lease papers. Instead, they had beers. They found a little store nearby that doubles as a mini bar to the residents who do not like going far and does not have a car.“You know what, I would love to, but, I have to attend a family dinner. ““It’s past ten.” Zac laughed at her joke. Thinking that it was indeed a joke.“It’s okay to show up late.”“
Chained with the same chain that used to restrain Fenrir, the elven chain. Forged by the elves that was designed to be unbreakable even by a God. Hades, the God of the underworld could not believe that he took Zeus’ bait. The daughter he had offered as a bargain to keep him from destroying his brother’s precious humans was the same reason why he was rotting in there. The most insulting part was that, he was imprisoned in his own domain and guarded by his own creatures of chaos. His beloved ghouls are half dogs, half humans. They now serve his wife. Those bastards will be the first to go if he gets out of here. That bitch.Persephone was his wife. He used to enjoy her pleasure and presence but now, he hates her with all his might. He hates her more than her father now.The door to his prison opened and in came the woman he despises. Today, she was wearing a black barely there dress that would have proven to be comely and sexy had he been so horny like he was before at the sight of her
Solandra had always been a calm sin-eater. As a leader, she wanted to be an epitome of a regal and eccentric woman that was left with no choice but take over the realm after her husband’s passing. None of this should have fallen into her pretty little shoulders if not for her daughter Helena.Helena was Nicolas’ favorite and when the time came to decide between his life and his daughter’s, he glady gave up his for Helena’s. It was 1725 and Helena was left alone in the mansion grounds by her nanny. The girl saw a rabbit and followed suit and it was soon that she realized that she wandered away from the mansion grounds and was near the village. Everyone was deployed. Even Nicolas went to find his beloved daughter despite Solandra’s plea. The crimes committed by Thadeus were still fresh amongst the villagers. Her pleas were disregarded and her husband went his way. It was then that he came to the village and found little Helena tied in the village plaza. Nicolas made a deal with the peo
A message from the author to my readers: Thank you. I was trying to figure my life when I was writing this story--with only one thing in my mind: Escaping from reality. This book holds a special place in my heart because I was not at the top of my game while patcing sentence after sentence, imaginging sequences and mending a broken heart. This had been my escape. My characters are all a part of me. Each were given a piece of me , so I can feel less burdened. i might not have written this perfectly or top notch, but I am sure that this is the best that I can offer while trying not to break down into pieces.I am a mother of two and I am messed up right now but the growing numbers of subscribers and readers gives me the push that I needed to type away, to put my thoughts into words. To hone the talent that I have (although I admit that I am a mediocre) and to pay it forward to the writers who have influenced me to write and to the friends who kept me going whenever I feel backing d
Helena’s POVAll my life I thought that I was destined to live and die by myself. My mother does not love me or so I thought , but it turns out that she loved me the way that she knew how. I could have not found this if not for Zachary Oliver who turned my boring, sin-eater life into a full three hundred and sixty throttle mode. And yet, here I am.Happily married to the man that my brother, Maddox had bitten. So, he was not a mystery. He was under the influence of the Goddess Persephone, who was in return--under the manipulation of my husband’s very own grandfather. We both have dysfunctional families but we both share the same goals--to maintain our happy family.I have kids that always remind me to keep my feet on the ground and to always love one another. I have completely abandoned my life as a high end Bulgarian high end bachelorette for a life of simplicity and endless laundry and and I believe that I am already qualified to compete in the national rapping competition.I rap
They say that a family is the basic unit of a community. For Zac, family is everything. He could not ask for anything more. Having two set of parents and a lovely wife, with three beautiful kids who do not let them live in peace and keeps them up on their toes all day is what a family really is.Their house is a mess all the time and he and Helena cannot have enough time for themselves unless they visit Bulgaria, where every house staff was eager to take care of the three kids and the entire estate is their playground.Zac was staring at the sky, sipping his third cup of coffee, because is essential when you are a parent. Helena left her work and takes good care of the children full time, she has her hands full with three kids to feed and a husband to reprimand on spoiling the children. Zac still works with the firm and he is now senior partner. George is still working there and he is the other senior partner. Helena bought the firm in secret. They really do not need to work because he
The kitchen in that modern bungalow house down in Maine was a mess. Three children ages four, three and two were busy making breakfast for themselves. Not your ordinary, edible breakfast. They took everything out from the fridge and poured flour all over their stash. The kid's names were---"Solandra, Maddox and Hades! Oh my.. What the fudge!" she was not allowed to cuss, most especially in front of her children. It had been five years, three kids and a consistently dirty kitchen later, Helena is now a mother.Yep, she named their children after the people they lost to remind them each passing day that there is nothing that love cannot conquer. She and Zachary, the new hero of Mount Olympus hitched up and settled down. They were no longer sin eaters. After Zac saved the world, he asked for one thing and that was to be human. They got what they wanted and the grand parents from Olympus gets to visit the kids as often as they want as long as they promise not to spoil the kids. Their ch
“Oh my God! I found my gift!” “Yes, you did.” Zac was so happy for Helena, he truly was. For so long , all she wanted was to discover her gift because it had been one of her greatest frustrations and now that she had found hers. She was always envious of Maddox who got his gift early and the rest of the sin-eaters who did not had a hard time finding what they were endowed.he only wish that they were another gift, Damn, she had two. “Are you having second thoughts now in marrying me?” Helena knew how his mind works now, nbut she was wrong in thinking abut the second thoughts. “What? No. Just because your gifts are extra deadly combination for a soon to be husband---you think I am gonna be scared? Well, let me tell you one thing, Miss Mountbatten and you have to listen very carefully---I am not scared of you or you powers, I have my own powers too.” Zac was now a full pledged Elven Mage and a demi God, he has a range of powers that none of the other Gods had and his parents could ne
The cave that leads to the endless tunnel and cave where Cronos’ body and containment box was locked and double locked. Freya, made sure of that, she used all the ancient runes that she knew of and exhausted every containment magic she had to ensure that the door will never be found.Zachary was wounded and because a God had given her these wounds, it did not heal right away.his mother gave him some healing leaves to alleviate the pain because they won’t go off right now. They will be like mortal wounds. The whole nine yards. He was just glad that Helena stood by him through all these fights and battles and there is just one thing that he would want to hear from her right now.“Some day, huh?” he voiced out for everyone to hear.“Yeah, some day.” Zeus answered. He and Freya were now huddled up against each other. “Sooo, you two are like okay now?”As an answer to that, Zeus gave Freya a quick kiss on the lips which soon developed into a passionate kiss. Zachary covered Helena’s eyes
Zac’s POVHelena have this weird and crazy idea that I do not know if I should give it a shot or no. He was a quarter close to successfully freeing himself from the containment box. It is now or never really. I try to focus on the people I love. My family in Texas who by now might be calling the police and dead worried because me and my girlfriend had been missing. My biological parents who are now mourning the death of my uncle Hades who did his best to convince his wife to call it quits.Helena’s losses. Her entire family was taken from her. She deserved to be happy with a family of her own and he badly wanted to get out of here alive and to continue living his life. With this in mind, Zac runs and jumps inside the containment box to everyone’s horror.“You! What did you told him to do?” Freya panicked when she saw what Zachary chose to do.“I-I told him to use the bolt to shut the lid and weld it together. I did not ask him to jump into this own death!”Inside the containment box.
“We will.”Zeus’ voice boomed from the upper staircase. It was not just him. There was Poseidon and Hades and Freya. When Persephone saw her husband free, she was furious. ” Who let you out?”Hades took a few steps and touched a half creature and it quickly turned into a heap of dust. Those who were in a close proximity to the ascending God of the underworld took a few steps back.the Hades she left imprisoned in his own kingdom that looked sad, poor and unshaven was very different as he came closer.“Dear wife, you believed that you are smart, but I am cunning and I would like to thank my nephew here for finally following my orders to the T. ““You’re welcome uncle.” Zac said and he bowed low.“Impossible.”“I will tell you what is impossible, okay? Releasing the man who put us all in danger is impossible.”“Why, because you will try to stop me?”“We won’t do that. We are only here to get rid of the monstrosities that our father unleashed to make it fair and square. Zac will take care
Zeus and Freya was still arguing when they finally noticed that their son was gone and so was his bolt. He had a smug grin on his face when he finally found the heir that is worthy of the bolt.“What are you grinning at?” Freya said.“You know what this means, don’t you?” “That you are an asshole for underestimating my son?”“He is also my son.”“Oh, now he is?”“I have to annoy him so we don’t have to force him into wielding the bolt. He did i on his own accord and the bolt chose him!”“That was your parenting skill?!” Freya could not believe how Zeus handled this. It worked but it was annoying and Zeus was so proud of himself.“I am sorry for all the times that we wasted without each other, Freya. You know I still loved you. I never stopped.”Freya did not stop loving the God too. The truth was, she had never loved anyone after Zeus. Elves, like the creatures of the dark can only love once and her love of her life was unfortunately the God of thunder, the father of her son. How can
