"Hey hey Fam!" Kalyani Singh sang as she let herself into her best friend's house. It had been raining cats and dogs earlier this morning but it was only drizzling lightly now. She shook off the water in her hair and took off her rubber boots, placing them by the door.

She made her way to the sitting room and met her friend Sarita's seven year old brother Abhimaan, staring at the blank screen of the TV looking sad. He looked as if his favorite pet fish just died and he wasn't going to get a replacement.

"What's up, Maan?" She dropped down on the sofa beside him with a wide smile on her face then ruffled his hair. He hated it when she did that but he didn't even flinch now.

"I don't want to go to school today, but Papa says I have to." Maan replied with a frown on his face. "It's not a must."

Kalyani sighed. "Same here, Maan." She patted his shoulder. She didn't like school herself but she knew she couldn't live off her parents hard earned money either. "I don't want to go either but we've got no choice now, do we? We've to study so that later, we can enjoy ourselves when we've made our money." She said, then made a face.

"I mean, you won't see me wanting to go back to school after becoming a billionaire."

Maan nodded with a smile. "True." He agreed. "I'm going to become the president of this country when I grow up. That'll only happen if I go to school."

"That's my boy." She grinned and high fived him.

"Kalyani, you're here." Supriya Madhav said when she walked into the room and saw her.

"Namaste, aunt." Kalyani stood up and rushed to touch her feet.

"Namaste. How are your parents and sister?" Priya smiled.

"They're fine. Thank you aunt." Kalyani replied. "What about uncle Jevan?"

"He had to leave early." Priya answered.

"In that rain?" Kalyani's eyes widened.

Priya shrugged. "He wouldn't listen to me so I let him go. You've had breakfast?" She asked Kalyani.

"Yes aunt." Kaly smiled. "Aunt, where's Sarita?"

"She's in her room. You know where it is." Priya smiled.

Kalyani smiled back and went in search of her friend. Her friend's house was a three bedroom apartment situated in a suburban area where the houses all looked the same. White painted walls, same backyard layout with only white picket fences separating them.

It was a quiet area but it wasn't as quiet as Kaly's gated community.

Kalyani knocked twice on her friend's bedroom door, waited for Sarita to call her in and opened the door.

"Hey bestie." She walked into the room and shut the door.

"Namaste, Kaly." Sarita smiled and gestured for her to take a seat as she stood in front of her dressing mirror knotting her tie. "You came in the rain?"

"Papa's driver dropped me off." Kaly said. "Mom, of course, didn't let me leave without an umbrella. You know how she is." She shook her head. "Anyway, please tell me you did the homework on world history?"

"Yes I did and I did yours too, so you owe me." Sarita informed her.

"Really? Thank you bestie!" Kaly rushed to hug her tight. "All of your wishes are my command from now on."

Sarita finally knotted her tie, straightened her shirt and turned to face her friend. "How do I look?"

"Gorgeous bestie, as always." Kaly gave her a thumbs up.

"Thank you." She beamed. She took a deep breath and hoped that Raj would notice her today. She'd had the same hope and wish every day for the past three years, all to no avail.

On Saturday, she'd gone out with Kaly to the salon and had her long hair cut very short in a bob style. Now, her auburn hair was shinier and a little curly at the ends.

"Don't fuss." Kaly reprimanded her. "He'll notice."

"You think so?" She looked hopeful.

"Well…," Kaly sighed. "It'll be his loss and someone else's gain if another boy notices you."

Sarita wouldn't say she didn't have an attractive face because she did, but it obviously wasn't attractive enough to get the attention of the boy she'd crushed on for years; Rajveer Chaturvedi or even... any other boy for that matter.

"You would be surprised who you'll see if you just take a look around you." Kaly told her. "Take your eyes off Raj for one minute."

Sarita sighed. It was easy for Kalyani to say. She was drop dead gorgeous, rich and had the best boyfriend in the world. She (Sarita) was from a middle class family, attending the best school in the state on scholarship and was an honorary student with her GPA at 4.0.

"Let's go." Kaly headed to the door. "You still have to eat breakfast and you eat slower than a snail."

"I do not." Sarita frowned.

"Yes, you do." Kaly shot her a cheeky grin before leaving the room.

Sarita grabbed her phone and key and purse then dumped the items inside her bag before she left her room. Just to prove Kalyani wrong about her eating habit, she ate faster than she always did and they left the house exactly at 6:45. They had to catch the school bus or else they'd have no choice but to commute to school.

"Did you hear about Vikrant's party coming up this weekend? I heard it's going to be big." Kalyani said. "Will you go?"

"You know very well that I don't like parties, much less the one Vikrant Suryavanshi throws. They're always R-rated." Sarita visibly shuddered, just thinking about the one she saw on Kaly's phone.

"Not all of them." Kaly said.

"Who cares." Sarita grumbled. "Besides, my parents will never let me go even if I want to... which I don't."

"I'll go." Kaly shrugged. "Samishka is going."

Samishka Singh loved to party. She never missed any party; be it, someone younger than she was throwing the party or her college mates but every young adult in Castleton Cross county knew that Vikrant Mayank Suryavanshi threw the best parties.

"Okay." Sarita said. She wished her friend the best of luck.

The bus arrived and they got on then made their way to the back to take their seats.

"Kalyani, I bet you're going to attend Vikrant's party on Saturday right?" A girl who had too much make up on asked Kaly.

"Yes. Why?"

"I just figured you wouldn't want your boyfriend to go alone." The girl said.

"I'm not like those girls who like to watch their boyfriend's every move, Tallulah. I trust my boyfriend one hundred percent." Kaly informed her.

"That's good to hear." Tallulah forced a smile and looked away.

"Wait, that's her name?" Sarita whispered.

"Yes. Why?"

"She looks exactly like that monkey in Barbie as the Island princess." Sarita answered.

Kaly burst out laughing, causing the other students to stare at her as if she'd gone mad but they immediately lost interest and minded their own business.

"You're so mean." Kaly chuckled. It was far from being true but who said they couldn't have fun criticizing the likes of Tallulah Marsden? The girl did worse to students who she felt were below her.

The bus pulled up at the curb and the doors swished open and they all alighted from the bus and made their way into the school premises."Isn't that your Raj?" Kaly jerked her head in the direction of the head cheerleader and her cohorts hanging around Rajveer Chaturvedi who was the second most handsome boy in school."He's not my Raj." Sarita countered. "But you want him to be." Kaly stated.Sarita sighed and looked at Raj. He looked very handsome in his black suit pants, white shirt and red and gold tie and wished it was her, he had his arm around her waist like that but she knew that wishes weren't horses and beggars couldn't ride."Yes, I want him to be, but he's not." Sarita replied to her friend's earlier statement. "He's... Divya's.""He must be blind or something." Kaly muttered. "I mean, it's like Prince Charming in Cinderella leaving her behind and going for one of her sisters. Absolute madness."Sarita smiled despite herself. It was a very interesting theory but Cinderella

"Kalyani!" Sarita chided, looking horrified as well. "His ego is bigger than the earth itself, so someone's gotta put him in his place." Kaly huffed looking nonchalant. "I don't understand you sometimes, Kaly. Just a while ago, you were drooling all over his expensive shoes and now this?" Sarita looked confused. "We're just like that." Kaly shrugged carelessly. "Now wait for it." She moved close to Sarita as Vikrant stalked towards them. All Sarita could see was a drop dead gorgeous boy with blue eyes sauntering towards them. His hair was as black as night and reached his shirt collar which meant that it was long enough and needed to be cut, but Sarita thought that it made him look like an ancient warrior coming back from war... victorious. Although, the look in his eyes right now bordered on irritation and mild amusement. "I'm going to spank your ass one of these days, Yaya." His low voice watched over Sarita like rain after a long time of drought. "You're becoming very naught

Sarita woke up later that morning and realized that despite her scream, her parents didn't wake up to find out what was going on and then she remembered that they were heavy sleepers. Even if the earth was shaking, they'd never wake up. She got out of bed and went to the bathroom to take a shower. She rotated her arms and felt the pain which made her frown. "Very funny." She muttered under her breath. She'd probably overworked her arms during gym class yesterday and the pain wasn't due to the yanking her arms had been subjected to in her dream. After her shower, she put on her uniform sans jacket since it seemed as if it was going to be a hot day and sat at her reading table to read for the history pop quiz she knew they'd have that day because the history teacher Mr Bradley was predictable like that. She tried hard to read but she couldn't concentrate as her mind decided to take a trip down memory lane which was early this morning about the dream. She found it absurd that Vikran

Sarita gasped. "That is very very bad." She reprimanded him. "I was looking for her password." He said. "It's nice to finally meet you, Anushka." He held out his hand to her. Sarita stared at his hand in awe then she looked at his face before she shook his hand shyly. She gasped when she felt a tingling sensation run up her arm and she quickly withdrew her hand from his. "Um... It's nice finally meeting you too, Vikrant Suryavanshi." She smiled. "I'll call you Anu from now on, okay? It's Anu for me and only me." He informed her. "Um... Okay." Sarita blushed harder, if it were possible. "You can call me Mayank. Only my dad calls me Mayank, seeing as he's also Vikrant. I don't want you to call me what others call me." He told her. "If you call me Vikrant, I won't answer you." "Why not? It's your name, is it not?" She angled her head to study his face. "Yes, but I don't want you to call me Vikrant." He reiterated. "Like we're friends?" She wondered. "Yes." He nodded. "Okay."

Sarita stood by her locker, deep in thought, staring at the picture of Rajveer that she'd pasted on the door of her locker and didn't notice Vikrant standing behind her. "Boo!" He yelled in her ear. "Goddess!" She jumped and slammed her locker door shut in fright, only for it to catch her pinky finger and she yelped. "I'm so sorry." He apologized. "Let me see." He took her hand in his to examine it. Her finger was red and it was bleeding from the cut she'd sustained. "It's... It's fine." She muttered and withdrew her hand. "Don't be silly." He chided and took her hand again, firmly this time in his. "I know it hurts like a bitch so it's not fine." Then he surprised her by putting her finger in his mouth. Sarita gasped and with wide eyes, looked around and saw students staring at her then at Vikrant in horror. "What... What are you doing, Mayank?" She whispered, tugging at her hand. "Stop." He shouldn't want to be with her every time but he couldn't help himself. He knew she probably had a crush on his best friend but he didn't want to care. Girls only wanted two things from him; money and sex and he was tired of being seen as a walking dollar sign. He wanted something different and Sarita was different. Sarita was a fast learner as she immediately played the tune he'd taught her not even a minute ago and got it right. She smiled big at him after she was done and he fought the urge to pull her into his arms and kiss her. "You're so fucked, Suryavanshi." He thought grimly. "About the concert thing... you're not lying to me, are you, Mayank?" She asked. "I mean..." "I don't lie." He cut her off. "I'd show it to you but the pictures are on my laptop. I lost my phone at that same concert but I was able to get everything back." "And the only way to see these pictures is... how exactly?" "Will you be at my party this Saturday? I could show you." A knock on Vikrant's bedroom door brought him out of his reverie and he got out of bed, padded barefoot to the door and opened it."Hey son." It was his father."Hey dad." He left the door open and walked back into the room. "When did you get back?""A little while ago." Rohan Suryavanshi had named his son after him and not to confuse anyone else about the names, decided to use his middle name which was Rohan after his son was born. "How are you?"Vikrant plopped down on the sofa in front of his bed with a sigh. "I'm fine dad.""Are you really?" Rohan arched a brow as he settled down on the wingback chair facing the floor to ceiling window."To be honest, I don't know." Vikrant replied. "I'm bored out of my mind and I have a thousand and one things on my mind.""Like what? It helps to talk about whatever is on your mind." His father offered."I'm sure you have something more important to do than listen to me talk.""Son...""I am not accusing you of anything dad." Vikrant was quick to

Samishka Singh stood in front of the buffet table wondering what to eat. There were different assorted dishes and desserts laid out for the guests to choose from but she was finding it hard to pick a specific dish. It was her youngest cousin Vikrant Suryavanshi's wedding and anyone who was somebody in Cardenia was in attendance. She snorted as she vaguely remembered that two years ago, Vikrant Suryavanshi would never have expected to find himself a married man before he turned twenty or worse be a father to two adorable gorgeous boys. But here he was, two years later, happily married to her little sister Kalyani's best friend Sarita Madhav. Now known as Sarita Suryavanshi. "Love... Look what you made him do." She muttered. They'd had an Indian wedding and this one was a church wedding. "Are you going to stare at the canapés all day or take a bite from them?" An amused male voice questioned beside her. Sam turned to face the newcomer and her breath hitched in her throat when she saw

They were married. She was his wife but Vikrant still felt very nervous as he stood at the altar waiting for Sarita to walk in. Her father had not been very happy after they told him that they intended to wed in the church after their traditional wedding but he'd given his consent, agreeing to walk her down the aisle. He straightened his jacket, checked his cuffs as the pianist began to play the wedding march song and almost wiped the sweat off his brows but he caught himself and silently cleared his throat. His breath hitched in his throat as the doors opened and Kaly walked in holding a small bouquet of peonies, followed by the ring bearer; Michael's cousin Sean and the flower girl and finally his bride appeared with her father. The walk to the altar took forever but he didn't mind as all he thought of was how gorgeous she was in the embroidered tulle wedding dress with a sweetheart neckline that she was wearing. He thought that he was a very lucky bastard because she was his to h

Vikrant stared at his ex-best friend's face in shock. He couldn't have heard him correctly, right? "Unfortunately, Divya beat you to it." Vikrant said. "Why are you telling me this?" "I can't... I can't do this anymore. I've not been able to sleep or study. I want things to go back to the way they were." Raj replied. "I came here to ask for your forgiveness, Vikrant." He dropped to his knees. "Please forgive me." Tears sprang to Vikrant's eyes as he stared at his former best friend on his knees. He'd cherished his friendship with Raj and he'd even thought of him as his brother from another mother, but he'd been the only one with the clear conscience in that relationship. He was eternally grateful to Kaly for exposing Divya and whose betrayal made him see Raj for who he really was. He was starting a new chapter in his life. Three weeks later Tears streamed down Sarita's cheeks when she walked into Vikrant's hospital room and saw him awake. The first week had been a rollercoaster ride for her as his blood pressure had dropped all of a sudden and the doctors had fought really hard to bring it back up. She'd been in school when she got a call from his father that he'd woken up and was asking to see her, so she'd gotten a leave from school and came straight to the hospital in the car his father had sent for her. She settled down on the chair his father had been sitting on and moved it closer to the bed, clasped his hand in hers and raised it to her lips. "You scared me to death, Mayank." She accused amidst tears. "I thought I'd never see you again." "I'm sorry." His smile was faint and his voice hoarse. His face was regaining its pallor but he still looked pale. "Don't ever try that again. Do you understand?" She hit him gently. "I forbid you." "Are you hitting a patient, Anushka? A very sick one at

Raj stopped in his tracks when he saw the crowd gathered in front of the music room and his brows furrowed. He moved closer, wondering what was happening but couldn't see anything until he heard Divya's voice calling out Vikrant's name. He fought his way to the front and froze when he saw the scene; Sarita sitting on the ground in a daze while Divya cradled a bloody Vikrant in her arms. His eyes traveled to the gun on the floor and his heart skipped a beat."Oh, God." He muttered. He was shoved aside as someone rushed into the room and he watched as Kaly rushed over to where the two girls were and knelt down beside Sarita."What's going on here?" The crowd parted for Principal Marek to walk in and he also went still upon seeing the scene. "Call for an ambulance!" He ordered. "Please tell me an ambulance is on the way.""I already did that sir." Michael spoke up."You killed him." Sarita's detached voice made everyone turn to look at her. Two days later "I did tell you that he'd come around, didn't I?" Kaly reminded Sarita as they stopped by her locker during the second period. Kaly's definition of Vikrant 'coming around' was a hello from him and a concerned look. She figured that it was better than behaving like strangers but in Sarita's books, that was nothing. If anything, it made her both anxious and angry wondering when they'd make up. She wasn't scared to admit that she'd missed him like crazy and hoped she wasn't the only one feeling miserable. She inputted the combination for her locker, opened the door and gasped when she saw the flowers and hearts littering her locker. There was a bouquet of red roses, a chocolate box wrapped in red ribbon, a handmade heart-shaped card and a heart-shaped globe that had tiny red hearts floating inside of it and a photo of the two of them smiling at each other. "Oh. My. God." Kaly's jaw dropped open. She grabbed the card, opened it to peruse what was written inside and

She bit out.Behind them, Kaly started singing the Little Mermaid 'kiss the girl' song mimicking the crab's voice. Her antics diffused the tension as Sarita burst out laughing and Vikrant followed suit but instead of them kissing as the song suggested, he wrapped his arms around Sarita and she did the same."Do you still want my stupid kiss?" He whispered in her ear."No." She pulled back. "It'll make me like you again. I don't want to like you again."Vikrant's lips curled up in a half smile. They were going to be good again. "What?" Sarita exchanged puzzled glances with Vikrant. "Twins?" "Yes." The doctor nodded. "Hidden twins are common in mono amniotic pregnancies which is true in your case. Your babies are sharing the same sac which would make them identical." "You know, mom thought so too, Sarita." Kaly said. "She was right." "So... They're fine, right?" Vikrant's voice came out a bit shaky. "The fall didn't hurt them?" "Their heartbeats are strong." He assured him. "Baby A seems to weigh more than Baby B but it's not so much that we have to worry." He pointed to the screen to show them the babies' fingers and toes and whatnot. After a lecture from the doctor about safety, Sarita was discharged and they left the hospital. Kaly looped her arm around Sarita's as they waited for Vikrant who'd gone to the restroom to come back so they could leave. "I'm so happy for us, Rita." Kaly squeezed her hand lovingly. "Twins!
