"Welcome to the Lombardi residence."

I watch as he gives me a small nod of the head, before leaving the large living space. I'm now left alone in the silence of un unfamiliar place. What does he exactly suggest I should do next? Looking around the room, I take in the expensive furniture, and the large stone fireplace to the right of me.

I move slowly in the direction I saw Matteo go earlier, trying to find him in this massive maze of a mansion. But instead of moving into another room, as I expected, I'm faced by a long meandering corridor. That's just my luck. I take slow steps down the corridor, my palm trailing across the smooth paint of the spotless white walls. Bare. They are all naked. There are no decorations, art, or family photos. Nothing.

Turning around the corner, I collide with a towering figure, my head colliding with his slightly unbuttoned shirt. As I raise my gaze, I notice the same blonde man from the bakery the previous day.... Tio? Yes, that was his name. His blonde wavy hair looks as if he just woke up, but yet he still manages to pull it off. How do guys do that?

"I know I'm the most handsome guy around, but you don't have to stare." His smooth voice reaches my ears, a teasing smirk on his face making my face heat up with embarrassment Soon after, his chuckle reaches my ears.

"My name is Tio, but you can call me whatever you like. And you must be Ilaria." Tio remarked with a big smile on his face, his hand reaching out to shake mine. Raising my hand, I extend it towards him, his warm fingers enclosing mine and providing some comfort. It's not as rough as Alessandro's, which bothers me for some reason.

"Yeah, I-it's n-nice to meet y-you... I um..." God why do I stutter when I'm nervous? I don't stutter with Abbey or Lucas, but then again I've known them for a long time now.

"Looking for Matteo?" Tio asked tilting his head slightly to the side making his blonde hair falling over his brow.

"Um... yeah. T-this place is k-kind of a m-maze." I stutter out, watching his smile widen slightly, before nodding his head.

"Yeah. You'll get used to it. Matteo is currently with Maia, and Alessandro requested me to bring you to your room so you can unpack." Tio motioned for me to follow him along the endless corridors of this place. As I approach a great grand staircase, I rest my palms on the beautiful black oak bannisters, which are free of dust. Following Tio up the stairs, we walk down an unknown number of corridors, each with a blank wall. This mansion appears to be devoid of life. I haven't even seen one picture of Matteo.

"And here we are." Tio came to a rapid stop in front of a cream-painted door, my bag already waiting for me outside. I swing my luggage over my shoulder as I walk over to the entrance to my new room.

"Oh, by the way, Ilaria. Alessandro may appear rough at first, but he's really just a giant teddy bear on the inside. I promise. He's just... been through a lot." He finished off staring into space for a few seconds. I watch as he brings himself out of his daze, before clearing his throat.

"Right, I'll be back in about an hour to let you unpack, and then Alessandro needs you in his office to sign a few papers. Bye Ilaria." He sang the last bit, making me smile, as he walks off down the corridor.

"U-um.. Tio?" I ask before he gets too far away. I watch him turn around giving me a warm smile. You can do this Ilaria. Taking a deep breath I go for it.

"Thank you." I whisper out, watching his face lighten up before replying.

"Your welcome." Before he turns around the way we just came.

Opening the door, I enter my new room, which has cream and pastel turquoise walls, a double bed in the centre of the room, and a set of double doors in the corner. The soft carpet of the room moves under my feet, cushioning the soles of them. Moving over, I open the doors to reveal the largest closet I've ever seen in my life, and it's... full of clothes. And by that, I mean a lot of clothes. Jeans, tailored trousers, shorts, skirts, dresses, a wide range of shoes, and.... bras. How on earth do they know my size?

I return to the main room and notice a wide window with a window seat. It has a few big fluffy pillows, and a soft blanket draped over it. Taking a few steps over to the window, I peek out and see a vast, lovely garden with a number of towering trees not far away. We must be further out of town than I imagined.

Plopping my bag on the floor, I drop onto the bed, exhausted from my earlier panic attack in the car, a headache beginning to form in my skull. I'm hoping Lionel didn't notice.

Removing my stuff from my bag I placed a picture of my parents and me on the small table next to me, turning it to the ideal angle. Then I take out some of the few books I own and place them on a shelf on the opposite side of the room. You could say I'm sort of a bookworm.... You are, of course, accurate. It's the only way I can get away from the life I'm presently living, to go to a new place and start a new life. A new beginning. Live a different life. I wish.

Sighing I return to my luggage, removing the last of my belongings. Makeup, perfume, lotions, toothbrushes, and sanitary goods are neatly arranged in the bathroom, with each item having its own location. Okay, I like things to be organised. I despise things that are just placed everywhere and anywhere. Knowing me, these will all get lost in various parts of the bathroom, never to be seen again. Such as hair ties or hair grips. You'll have them one minute and then not have them the next. They've vanished.

Looking around the room again, I note that it still appears drab, even with some of my belongings put away. Maybe I should get some plants... maybe a cactus? Or maybe a few more books? Yeah more books.

Deciding to take a small half an hour nap, I lie down on the double bed curling myself into a ball, my eyes already starting to close from exhaustion.

****

"Ilaria." Someone sings from the other side of my door, as I groggily open my eyes, the continuous banging brining back my headache.

Groaning, I rise and make my way to the door to stop the horrible banging that has caused my headache to double in size. I yank the door open, groggily glancing up at the guilty Tio, who has his hand in the air, as if about to knock again.

"Did I wake you?" Tio said running his hand through his blonde hair, the silky strands slipping through easily.

"No, I was already up." I lied, rubbing my eyes with my hands as I try to rub the sleep away.

"Right sure..." He said trailing off, obviously not believing me for whatever reason.

"Alessandro's asked for you in his office." Tio said straightening up, his shirt now completely buttoned up and adorning a straight black tie. His hair also now gelled back slightly, making his cheekbones look sharp, and his dark brown almost black eyes pop.

All sleep disappears as soon as he says that, leaving me with the lingering headache, making me wince in pain.

"Come. I'll take you to him." Tio said nodding his head for me to follow. I blink multiple times hoping to rid me of sleep, before closing the door behind me with a quiet click.

We follow each other down corridor after corridor until we reach a dead end. In front of us is a dark, nearly black double door. Knowing that this is his office raises my heart rate. I take a step closer, preparing to knock on his door, but Tio stops me before tucking some hair behind my ear.

"Alessandro likes people to look presentable, and I don't think he'd like it if he'd known you just came from a nap." Tio said straightening my chunky cardigan, making me worried he saw some of my scars. Which I don't think he did luckily.

"Right well... don't keep Alessandro waiting." Tio said giving me a comforting smile, as he walks off who knows where.

Turning towards the almost black double doors, I knock on them with a shaky hand.

"Come in."

"Come in." Taking in a deep breath I open the heavy doors to his office stepping into the large dark space, the door shutting behind me. Small warm lights line the walls, lighting up seconds of the room.I should have realised that his personality would be reflected in this room. The walls are black, and the flooring is such a rich dark brown it looks black with this lighting. One side of the room has large bookshelves, while the other appears to house many bottles of alcohol. Multiple glasses lined up on the side. There's also a gigantic black desk in the back of the room with a huge comfy chair that holds Alessandro Vito Lombardi's massive frame, who looks to be engaged in some important work. His hands flitting across numerous pieces of paper before quickly typing on his computer next to him, barely even looking my way. The only sound in the room being the ticking of a clock, and his shuffling.Deciding to make the first move, I take slow steps forward my footsteps echoing across

My alarm clock is blaring next to me, alerting me to the fact that it is already 7 a.m. I groggily open my eyes, meeting the blackness of my room, a sliver of light peeking in through the gap in the white curtains. Who is this?I take my gaze away from Alessandro and this blonde-haired woman kissing near the counter. We certainly don't need to witness you two smacking lips together, especially Matteo. He'll be traumatized for the rest of his life. As I approach Matteo, I notice the disgust on his face, as well as the hard glare he's casting at the blonde woman in her skimpy red dress.I mean really her boobs look like they're about to spill out at any moment.Matteo extends his arms to me, making small grabby hands. I pick him up and place him on my hip before stepping around the counter away from them and onto the floor. His little hand clutching mine, a look still directed their way."Ah Matteo... aren't you a cutie." The blonde woman says this while bending down in front of Matteo, with what looks like a forced smile. Matteo takes a step back closer to me, his hand tightening around mine as her arms spread for a hug. This causes her smile to fade, and she turns to glance at me with a glare bef

It's now evening, and I'm sitting at the dining table with Matteo, who appears to be chatting nonstop about what he's learnt today. I believe he is one of those persons that simply enjoys learning. If he were to be assigned to a Hogwarts house, it would be Ravenclaw.I stare down at my lap, my right hand covered with the bandage from earlier, zoning out from what he's saying. I recall Alessandro's irritation and anger in his eyes, but his hands were so gentle against mine, a sharp contrast."Ilaria?" Matteo's voice snaps me out of my trance, and I withdraw my fingers away from where Alessandro's hand was on mine. Looking up, I notice Matteo asking me a question."Yes?" I inquire, turning my body to face him."What do you think? The chicken or the egg?" He asked with wide eyes, as though he's fascinated by the topic he's asking. I come to a halt while I mull over the question. No one, not even professional scientists, knows the answer to that question."Um.. I don't know that's a hard

"Pleeeeease Ilaria. Please?" Matteo begs, his small hands clutching my arms and straining on the thin fabric of my long shirt. He's been pleading with me for a few minutes now. He wants to go to the park today because he doesn't have home school. The only problem is that Alessandro told we couldn't leave the house without his permission."Matteo we've talked about this with your dad-""My dad is in a work meeting all day in town, he'll never know Ilaria. Pleeease" Matteo begs again cutting me off. I take a deep breath, trying not to give in as I look down at his big pleading silver eyes. "How about this? I'll phone your dad and I'll ask him ok?" I inquire, watching his head nod fast. I'm surprised he hasn't dizzy. I take my phone from my back pocket, looking through the contacts Alessandro has added on my phone. I find his phone number and push it with a shaking palm. Bringing the phone up to my ear I wait a second for the familiar ringing to reach my ears. My hands shake as I wait

"Ilaria." "Where. are, you?" Alessandro's stern voice reaches me through the phone, making my freeze. My eyes widen with surprise, and my muscles tense. Oh my goodness. Oh, no, no, no... no way. Taking a big breath in, I adjust my phone to my ear to avoid dropping it. Matteo's body is leaning against mine, his small arms wrapped around my hips, little sniffes escaping his chest. "A-Alessandro" I whisper out my hands shaking. "I'm going to ask you once more Ilaria. Where. are. you?" He gritted out once more leaving me in silence. "I-I um... I'm i-in the l-library." I stutter, hoping he'll believe my lie. If he finds out that I took Matteo out I'm dead. Literally. "Really? ...so why did I go in earlier and you weren't there? You were also not in your room... nor was Matteo. And one of my guards... informed me that you left earlier today... with my approval." Oh noooo. The guard snitched on us what the hell."So this is your last chance Ilaria. Where. Are. You". He asked one last t

"Can we watch this please papa." Matteo whines pointing at the ginormous plasma TV screen where he's stopped on Iron man. Since Alessandro and I talked earlier, Alessandro has suggested that Matteo watch a movie with him. I suppose it was to allow them to spend time together. Then Matteo invited me to join them, which Alessandro doesn't look happy with. We're all currently lounging on the massive sofa in the middle of the room, with a few odd lights on here and there to keep it from being too dark or too bright. It appeared... homely.I went to Matteo's room after our earlier conversation to find him sitting on his bed, worried. He said he was worried what his dad would do to me, since he looked angry. I assured him that everything was fine. We then had some dinner, which Maia had requested. The fettuccini alfredo was delicious. But Alessandro didn't show up until Matteo knocked on my door and said he wanted to watch a movie with Alessandro and me. And now here we are."We've watch

When I turn my head to the left, I see Matteo's head snuggled into my neck, his body under my covers, his arms around my stomach clinging tightly to my shirt.I smile, caressing Matteo's soft black hair, and he smiles back, snuggling even closer to me, his nose tickling my neck. I try not to laugh out loud because I don't want to wake him up. I was shocked by the fact that Alessandro wanted to put Matteo to bed last night, he hasn't done that at all over the past few days I've been here. I guess he wants to try again. At least he's trying. I'd rather someone try and fail than to never try at all. "ILARIA!" I hear a familiar voice scream, followed by loud banging footsteps speeding up the stairs. I snuggle myself into the warmth beneath me, my pillow firm but soft and comfortable. Wait, what? Pillows aren't supposed to be hard. "No they're not Ilaria." A familiar chuckle and laugh says from next to me, making me even more confused. Did I just say that out loud? "Yes you did Ilaria." He laughs once more making me hide my face into the pillow with a groan. Pillow. No wait? I slowly open my eyes, blinking a few times to wake myself up. I notice I'm lying on a chest by turning my head slightly. As I inhale his manly scent, I notice his white buttoned shirt is slightly undone, giving me a view of his sculpted tanned chest and a few tattoos. Looking up slightly, I meet Alessandro's amused grey eyes and a small smile. As he chuckles again, this time louder, I feel my cheeks warm up and move so my face is hidden from his view. "Come on Ilaria, get up. You've been asleep for a few hours now." He said as he starts to nudge me off his chest gently, which just makes me bury myself into

"You can't catch me!" Matteo yells at me, his little giggles echoing down the corridors as I run after him, shaking my head in amusement. I chase after him, my breath coming out unevenly as I try to figure out where he's gone. I should have asked Alessandro for a map of this place. Walking down the corridor, I try to keep my steps quiet so he doesn't notice if I'm approaching him."Matteo." I sing, when I find that I can't see him anywhere. I notice the curtain moving in front of one of the large windows. I turn the corner and enter what appears to be another sitting room. I quickly open the curtain, expecting to see Matteo, but he isn't there. Looking up, I notice a small window open at the top, causing the curtain to sway slowly. Sighing I turn around to see Matteo standing by the door with a sly grin on his face. "Oh your in for it now." I laugh as I run after him again, his little giggles filling my ears and making my heart skip a beat. How does this little guy run faster than me

"Huh. So you're the babysitter that's changed our Matteo and Alessandro." I turn to my right and see the same amused brown-haired, brown-eyed man staring at me, his large frame sitting on the arm of the chair, his arms crossed. Taking a look behind him, Tio and a few strangers I've never seen before catch my eye. They were all massive, not as built or as tall as Alessandro. Each of them wearing fancy black suits, all of them matching one another. Tio's sitting next to the brown haired stranger on the chair, his leg lounged open. Two strangers standing behind the chair, one with dirty blonde hair, and the other one with black."Yeah no shit Enzo. Who else would that be?" The dirty blonde haired guy said, hitting the back of the brown haired guy who I now know is called Enzo. He winces and rubs the back of my head, making me concerned for him. What is with people in this house hitting one another like its the normal thing to do?"A-are you o-okay?" I ask, wide-eyed, as Enzo looks at me

He traces over the pink scars on my arms, the lightest touch I've ever felt on my skin. His breath is coming out in quick, uneven bursts compared to my now slower breathing. I feel his hands move to my other arm rolling up the other sleeve revealing the rest of my scars, his breathing coming to a halt.I close my eyes, not wanting to see his disgusted expression. My scars are unsightly and stand out against my pale skin. I try to hold back my sobs as they try to escape my chest. Looking to see what he's upset about, I notice him staring at the last slice of pizza in the box, as Abbey does. I watch as they both turn to look at each other before shouting about why they should have the last slice."I saved you from babysitting your sister!" Abbey screams pulling the box towards her.
