Aiden removed the sunglasses he's wearing before checking the time on his wrist watch. It's already 8 pm and he can already feel the fatigue from the 14-hour long flight seeping in his bones. The service his agency got for him got delayed kaya naman naisipan niya munang maupo.
His phone lit up from a message notification just as the barista called his name. He stood up to collect his order while opening his phone to check his message.
"Arriving in ten," the text said.
He calmly dragged his suitcase while sipping on his coffee, he stopped and stood at the pickup location he was told.
He looked around him. People are milling in and out of the airport. He brushed off the disappointed looks of his parents that appeared in his mind at that, wala na siyang babalikan.
That was fast, Aiden thought. Bumaba ang driver. He's wearing a full black suit, complete with a black mask. He almost snorted, the agency is as careful as ever.
The driver gave him a small bow bago kinuha ang kanyang maleta upang ilagay sa trunk ng sasakyan. He gave him a grateful nod bago sumakay na sa kotse. The driver got in the car after settling his things. He's sitting behind the passenger seat. He stared out the window, occasionally sipping his coffee, as the car started to move.
The car ride is quiet. Nakatitig lamang siya sa mga nadadaanang kotse at sasakyan, the gentle humming of the air conditioner lulling him to sleep. Mas nararamdaman niya ang pagod niya ngayon. A few minutes later, they're driving down a more secluded road. Trees replaced the buildings; it was getting darker and darker too. His eyes flickered on the driver; their eyes met on the rare-view mirror.
"Didn't think they'll get me a place much more secluded than last time," Aiden said conversationally. The driver remined quiet though, just focused on his driving so he just looked out too. They drive some more; he's getting more tired and tired by the second.
"I don't know Owen, where do you think I'm taking you?" the driver finally spoke.
"Or should I call you Aiden now?"The first thing that registered to him was how familiar the voice sounded, ngunit hindi niya matandaan kung saan niya ito narinig. A bow. Shit, he just got home and his past is already catching up huh.
They both got jostled, but Aiden used the time to kick off the car door and get out. He heard another car door being kicked open kaya naman dali-dali siyang tumayo. He moved to get the revolver he always has in a small personal compartment he had especially built in his boots. He successfully got it but was immediately sent tumbling down the dirt once again from a very hard kick on his side.
He groaned in pain but was quick to stand up.
"Long time no see, Owen," his attacker said. God, Aiden is so pissed off just by the tone of his voice. Fucker is the reason why he had to leave the country and fake his death after all.
"I see you've been well.""Shut up," he darkly spat out. Pareho silang agent, after all.
"Hmm. Di mo man lang baa ko kakamustahin," his tone was mocking, and Aiden is even more pissed at his relaxed state.
Aiden thinks he really must've been too tired to not notice the things he usually does. Is he playing with him?
He wants to shoot him, but he knows he has to be smart with his bullets lalo pa at alam niyang tatlo lang ang laman ng kanyang pistol. So, with a final swing of knife, he gathered all the force his tired body could muster and kicked the man on his stomach. He was successful as the man tumbled down a few steps. He was quick to recover though, he looked up, this time looking so mad before he ran to him. Aiden quickly ran away. He looked at his watch while running. It's designed by their agency to send emergency alarm to the headquearters.
He was once again thrown to the ground, he landed on his back. The man was quick to straddle his waist. He struggled to free himself, the man is heavy holy fuck. He's getting tired, fuck.
He once again gathered all his strength to switch the situation. It's with a struggle but he was able to throw the man off. He landed on his side and he was quick to stand up and straddle him too. He used all his weight to pin him down before swinging hard punches left and right. His knuckles hurt and the man's nose was bleeding when his watch lit up.
"Where are you?" the voice from his watch asked.
"Where am I?! Fucking—" he gave another punch, the loud smack ringing in the quiet night.
"I almost got fucking kidnapped! Send me some backup!"He was struggling above him; his attacker is really strong. He let out a shocked gasped when he was suddenly thrown to the ground once again. This time, he fired his pistol and he was certain he hit the man when he heard a grunt of pain. Nakita niya itong nakahawak sa duguang kaliwang balikat. He saw the knife he was holding lying on the ground near them.
"Backup on their way," he heard the voice from his watch said in the middle of punches. He's getting dizzy. He feels something warm trickle down his nose. He pushed the man off with all his might. He landed on his stomach on the ground, he was quick to straddle him once again. It's a bow covered in vines. Hinding-hindi niya ito makakalimutan.
The man struggled and thrashed beneath him. A sound of cars approaching distracted him, the light blinding them. The man was quick to stand, leaving the knife plunged deep on his right leg. Agad-agad itong tumayo at saka tumakbo papalayo.
Narinig niya na lamang ang suno-sunod na putok ng baril, probably from the backups that came. He's pissed, they're too late. His body fell, boneless on the ground. His vision has dark spots in them too. He felt extremely dizzy. The last thing he registered was someone walking in front of him and checking his pulse, before he eventually passed out.
The first thing he registered when he finally came to his senses was the sterile scent in the room. And he immediately wanted to groan. Fuck. The second thing was when he opened his eyes and saw the familiar white walls. Too white for his liking. He has never felt the biggest urge to run away since. He is not in a hospital, he knows. Well, it is a hospital, but not a typical one. It's more of a clinic. Ang agency mismo ang nagmamay-ari nito. It's for emergency situations like this. He forced his eyes to open, getting blinded by the too bright light above him. His eyes slowly gained focus and his eyes met the face of his best friend. He had never groaned
The brown envelope made a smacking noise as it collided with the huge mahogany desk of Mr. Suarez, their Top Commander here in the Philippine headquarters. Aiden met the man’s eyes, his gaze burning with anger.“What’s this?” Aiden quite literally spat out. Ang tingin ni Mr. Suarez ay nanatiling kalmado, ang kaliwang kilay niya ay bahagyang tumaas.“Hello to you too, Mr. Williams,” the man replied sarcastically. Eyes never straying from Aiden’s.Huminga nang malalim si Aiden upang maikalma ang sarili, pinapaalalahanan na superior niya pa rin ang kanyang kaharap. He limped his way to the man’s desk.“Have you recovered yet? Aiden disregarded his ques
Aiden was quick to school the expression of shock on his face into a blank one.“Hey, you still there?” tanong ni Klyden mula sa kabilang linya. Aiden averted his gaze from Artemis. He fixed his hold on his phone. He can feel his hands shaking for some reason. Is he nervous? Embarrassed? Flustered? Guilty? As he pushed his cart past her, their eyes met once again. She looks so confused. He willed himself to keep it cool. Aiden gave her a small smile, her eyes widened for a fraction before giving a small smile too, immediately averting her gaze after. He reached the next aisle still feeling dazed. Her dark brown hair, she used to have it long, no
His eyes burned holes at the envelope on top of his work desk. He sighed for the nth time in the past hour, mabilis siyang kumurap nang maramdaman ang panunuyo ng kanyang mata. He raised his hands to rub his eyes, groaning as he did so. This has been his routine for almost a week now. As if staring at the envelope would suddenly answer his questions. He really wants to know why, ano ba ang ginawa ni Artemis sa mga nagdaang taon upang masama sa ganitong business ang kanyang pangalan. Artemis, despite being a really sweet girl is firm and opinionated. Alam niyang ipaglaban ang sarili niya. Did she accidentally anger someone with her opinionated nature again? He suddenly remembers that one time they had a date and intended to watch a movie but ended up in the mall security office. - Aiden reached out to put his hands on Artemis’ tense shoulders.
The third time they met, believe it or not, was purely on accident. Apat na araw na ang nakakaraan mula nang magkita sila sa hospital, pinadalhan siyang muli ng kanyang agency ng lokasyon, as expected, but after hours of waiting, she didn’t show up. He went home feeling a mixture of disappointment and relief that day. Disappointed that it delayed the progress of his mission, at the same time relieved for the same reason. He was jogging around the small village, a habit he formed every time he’s injured so he would heal faster, when he accidentally saw her walking out of her house. They were both shocked at the sight of each other.“Oh,” ani nito.“Ikaw ulit.”Huminto siya sa labas ng bahay nito, eyes focused on her.“I didn’t know you live here,” he said. That’s partly a lie, he kind of deduced she lived somewhere near the area if his a
He stood behind the cash register, preparing for the rush hour. He is yet to make a move, kailangan niya munang masiguro na hindi magiging kahina-hinala ang bawa’t galaw niya.Artemis is currently cleaning tables; it seems to be her duty around the café. He tracked her every move, eyes following every movement.“Magkakilala po kayo?” he heard Evelyn ask, it’s the first time she directly talked to him since his first duty. Bahagya niya lamang itong nilingon. She’s a petite girl, pretty eyes hidden behind big glasses, small nose and thin lips. Her head is the same level as his shoulders, kaya naman kinailangan niya pang yumuko nang bahagya.&nb
He works quietly, was trained for even the most extreme of extreme situations. The next time he opened his eyes, he saw the white ceiling and his first thought was the agency, and he immediately closed them again. He internally groaned. His senses slowly came back, with a massive throbbing at the back of his head at that. He’s hearing hushed whispers from somewhere in the room, at kahit na alam niyang mahina ang kanilang boses, nakadagdag pa rin ito sa sakit ng kaniyang ulo. He groaned loudly this time.
To say that things were awkward in the café would be an understatement. He doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry because of this. Nararamdaman niya ang ingat nila. Even while ordering food for their lunch. It’s another lazy afternoon in the café. Artemis is once again busy at the back, probably talking to their manager, while Evelyn is walking around to clean table.Ang mga mata niya ay nanatili rito. The information he asked still hasn’t come, kaya naman pansamantalang nag-iingat muna siya sa paligid nito. He doesn’t know her well afte
