ARIA

I stood before the grand mansion, a place I had called home for most of my life. Despite the surrounding darkness of the forest, the house seemed to emit its own light.

"Aria, it's time to go!" My mother called out from the car, the sound of the slamming door indicating that this was the last time I would see this house.

With a deep sigh and a heavy heart, I turned away from the mansion and walked towards the car with my hands buried in my hoodie pockets.

"Goodbye, Twilight Grove," I whispered to myself.

──────

"Who's the kid?" A customer at my mother's flower shop asked. Since our move to Willow Stone, people had been curious about my name.

My mother had opened her own shop so that we could work together and not be separated.

"Stanley, stop pestering Pandora for her daughter's sake," a man interrupted, placing a rough grip on Stanley's shoulders and making him squirm playfully. The man's words made my mother laugh as she arranged the flowers they had purchased for their wives.

Both men thanked my mother and left the shop with a nod and a smile. Of course, they knew my name. It was written in large letters above the shop. They just liked to tease us since we were the new kids in town.

Aria's Pandora's Box

"Mom, the tulips and asters are dying again," I called out, my gaze fixed on the flower bucket outside the shop. The flowers were nearly as dry as the autumn leaves scattered on the ground.

My mother emerged from the shop, a frown on her face. "Just throw them away. The tulips and asters only bloomed three days ago. Hopefully, that's enough to replace the dead ones."

Without argument, I bent down to reach for the first bucket of dying tulips. We had both suspected that the weather was to blame, but I had a feeling it was something more sinister. Perhaps someone was sabotaging our flowers to keep us from selling.

As I lifted the bucket, the strong stench of decaying petals filled my nose and made me sneeze uncontrollably.

"Bless you," a voice whispered from behind me. I quickly turned around, but there was no one there. A shiver ran down my spine as I felt a set of eyes watching me from somewhere on the street.

"Aria, get inside!" My mother's voice shattered my thoughts. I slowly put down the flowers and headed back into the shop, scanning the street corners for any sign of the source of the voice.

"Why? I was just getting rid of the dead flowers," I said, confused.

"You don't have to do that. I'll take care of it," she replied, adjusting her seat to look at something behind me. I turned to see what she was looking at, but there was nothing there.

"Are you okay?" I asked, looking back at her.

She snapped out of her trance. "Oh, yes. Just stay inside. I'll close up the shop." She stood up quickly and was out the door before I could ask any questions.

I shrugged at my mother's behavior and decided to spray the remaining flowers with floral preservatives to keep them fresh.

As I worked, I noticed that my mother was still lifting buckets to the back of the shop. I approached the door and twisted the knob, but my mother's head suddenly popped up on the other side of the glass.

"Do not try me, Aria." She warns while pointing the finger at me.

"I want to help!" I yelled, frustration boiling within me.

"Keep your hands to yourself!" came the gruff reply.

I sighed and turned away from the door, taking a seat behind the counter. My hand reached for the drawer, searching for the one item that had always provided solace – my diary. I flipped through its pages, reading my old rants and studying the photos and dried flowers that acted as bookmarks.

A smile tugged at my lips as I read the first entry I had written five years ago.

"My writing sucks."

"Agree."

The voice echoed in my ear, causing me to jolt upright. I looked around, searching for the source of the voice, but I was alone in the flower shop.

"Mom?" I called out, my voice quivering with fear. I could feel the chill of the unknown creeping into my bones once again.

There was no response.

"Mate!"

The piercing scream sent a jolt of pain through my head. I was on high alert, fear coursing through my veins. The voice seemed to come from all around me, but I couldn't pinpoint its exact location.

"S-Shut up!" I yelled, clutching at my head as the pain intensified.

"He is here─Mate!"

I could feel my head getting lighter as the pain faded, my breathing slowly returning to normal.

"Are you okay?" The voice asked, its tone laced with concern. I knew it was the same voice that had been messing with me, but I refused to acknowledge it.

I opened my eyes, only to see a stranger standing before me.

"Yes? This is a self-serve shop. You can pick out your own flowers," I whispered, still trying to regain my composure.

A faint, airy laugh filled the quiet shop, sending shivers down my spine.

"I am not interested in flowers. But this rose would be lovely," the stranger said, twirling a white rose between his fingers. The way he played with the stem, filled with thorns, made me uncomfortable. Yet, he didn't flinch as the thorns pricked his skin – there was not even a drop of blood.

I took the rose from him, but I couldn't bring myself to look at his face.

"He's not pleased."

The voice echoed in my ear once again, but I ignored it.

"That will be $4," I said, my voice shaking as I felt the stranger's eyes on me.

Suddenly, he was gone. I looked up, but all I could see was a dark shadow flashing in the corner aisle of the store. The sound of footsteps made my heart race, fear gripping me.

"Mom?" I called out, but the shadow didn't respond. Instead, it grew taller, looming over me as a low growl rumbled from its throat.

It's happening again, I thought to myself. The monsters are here. I'm so scared, mom. Narcissa, where are you?

And then, everything went black.

"We died, Aria."

I move quickly through the dark abyss that surrounds me. Everything is pitch-black, and I am lost. The last thing I remember is the pain of something, or someone, tearing apart my soul. This day has been filled with strange and inexplicable events, such as freshly-picked flowers wilting and a mysterious voice whispering in my head. Perhaps I am unlucky in this town. "Hello?" "The Royal Blood has arrived," the man with piercing features and curly hair declared, his voice shining with an eerie glow. My gaze was instantly drawn to the details of his appearance, and I couldn't help but wonder if his sharp features extended to his fangs. I found myself trapped in this dark fort, yet I couldn't bring myself to panic. Instead, I held onto the hope that this was all just a nightmare and I would soon wake up at the front desk with my mother scolding me. But then, the man spoke to me, snapping me back to reality. "How did you find your way here?" "I didn't. I was running away from someone," I whispered, my hand fidgeting nervously in my lap. The man hummed as he began to pour a crimson liquid into a golden chalice. "Tea?" he offered with a sinister smile, revealing his fangs. I shivered at the thought of drinking human blood and desperately hoped that it was animal-based, but I knew all too well that creatures like him preferred their blood freshly drawn from t

My sight went everywhere, just to locate her seated on the wood at the high ceiling with her feet moving simultaneously."You're a ghost, like me!"I gave a slight nod. But I am sure I can teleport like I did when I landed here at Kai's house."I can't fly, and you can. That's unfair." Narcissa shrugs. She bends her knees and jumps in the air without the need to land back down. I am jealous. "This is not fun.""Tell that to my invisible wings!"The smell of strong coffee lingered in the air. My attention quickly changed from Narcissa to the source of an excellent-smelling coffee."Like my coffee?" The man who claimed to saw everything a while ago teased. ARIA I stood by the door while waiting on Jax and Kai. "It was like slenderman, but more slender!" I hear Jax exclaims, his voice running through the hallway. Remembering the look on Jax’s face when Kai was sucking the daylight out of me, his eyes sent a sting inside me. Like something was dying within me without knowing what it was. The door slowly creaks open making me dash towards the bed and threw myself on the soft mattress, loads of dust flew in the air after I jumped on the bed. "Doesn't Kai sleep here?" "Who told you to play with my bed?" Kai’s voice strikes my ear, I quickly turn my back and met his eyes. "No one, you already let me sit here awhile ago, so I assumed that I can lay here too?" "Get out, I need to check on something." Kai walks passed me, and the cold trail hits my face. I could only sigh in frustration when I remember who puts Kai into a bad mood. Thinking about what the shadow said, something doesn't add up. Even my wolf is losing communication with me and I don't even know why. Bracing myself, I watched them enter the shop. Swaying back and forth to get a better view over the glass of the shop, the last thing I saw was Kaizel's hands resting on Aria’s lower back. "Filthy blood-sucking pig." "What are you doing here on my territory?" I hear a voice behind me. I turn around and saw Connor the alpha of my sub-pack. Sometimes he can be too close when he smells something unusual. "Unfortunately, this territory is still my pack." "This is not the mainland, therefore, I am the alpha here." Connor shrugs, turning his head to where I was staring then his gaze landing on me. Today is the day that the witches will help me. It was my first time sleeping on the ground with only clothes to separate me from the bare dirt of the ground. "Aria, can I come in?" I heard Jax's voice behind the thick curtain with tiny gaps from the other side. "Aria, come back!"I ran through the dark forest, my heart racing with fear and confusion. How could my mother, the woman who had raised me and loved me unconditionally, try to kill me like that? And for what? For humanity's sake? It was madness. But as I ran, I realized that she wasn't entirely wrong. Vampires were dangerous creatures, and I had seen firsthand the destruction they could cause. Maybe she was just trying to protect the people she loved, even if it meant sacrificing her own daughter. I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. I couldn't keep running forever. I needed to find a way to undo my vampirism, to become human again. But how? As I stumbled through the forest, lost and alone, a voice interrupted my thoughts. "Young Aria," I spun around, ready to fight or flee. But it wasn't a vampire that I saw. It was Marcelo standing by the tree. "What are you doing here? How did you find me?" The Lycan Beta smiled. "I have an answer for you to start your journey to und

As I walked alongside Jax, I could feel the tension building in my chest. We were headed toward his pack's territory, and I had no idea what to expect. I had only just met Jax's pack a few days ago, and I wasn't sure how they would react to me as Jax's mate who was their mortal enemy since the start of time. The good thing was Jax was able to spray something on me that would hide my musky scent away from the werewolves. As we approached the pack's clearing, I saw a group of werewolves gathered around a little store. They all turned to look at us as we approached, their eyes fixed on me. But then, something caught my eye, something that made my heart skip a beat. My mother. She was there, among the werewolves, helping out with their work. I could see the worry etched on her face as she looked at me, her eyes brimming with concern and tears.
