Chapter 026

Reese

''Enzo...'' I uttered his name breathlessly. He was now fully clothed as he shut the door behind him. He lightly grazed his chin with his thumb, his gaze travelled along my face, down to my neck, and all the way to my breasts, which were covered with bubbles.

''Care to explain why you did that to me earlier?'' he rasped, and I abruptly sat up, which resulted in the water sloshing around. He eyed the bubbles surrounding my nipples and how they hardened from his gaze.

''I don’t want Liza to catch us...'' That was the very first thing that came to my mind, and he seemed not wanting to believe it.

''Really?'' he sneered. ''What’s wrong if she catches us? We’re old enough for this...''

I shook my head. ''You don’t understand. I told her everything that had happened to me, how mom and Troy cheated on me. And also, about that... having a one-night stand with a stranger...''

To my surprise, he laughed. The sound vibrated against the water, and I clenched my thighs together.

Chapter 027Reese''I thought you were going to introduce me to the woman you want to marry?'' Liza asked her brother, and I almost coughed, watching her twirling her fork with her pasta. ''What’s her name again? Candice?''Candice? I thought...''Yeah. She’s kinda busy right now...'' Enzo’s words sparked a twinge of jealousy rising up inside me. ''I’ll bring her here some other time...''He asked me to marry him, and now he was telling us that he's marrying another woman. What a moron!''But the question is, will she be able to meet your grandma’s expectations?'' Liza chuckled, pushing a glass of orange juice in front of me, smiling at me.His grandma? Perhaps the only people who wanted Enzo to get married were those on his mother's side.Enzo glanced at me, and he might be able to tell that I was feeling uneasy because he cleared his throat. I just declined his offer of marrying him. I had no idea he was planning to marry another woman.''Grandma will agree with whichever girl I bri

Chapter 028ReeseIt was six in the evening when I got out of bed and moved to the closet to pick out an outfit for the dinner. I got dressed and just as I had finished putting on light red lipstick on my lips, I heard a knock on my door before it threw open, and Liza slipped in.''Reese...'' she called, her voice trembled a little like something was bothering her, and I stared at her reflection in front of me.What does she want? Does she already know about my affair with her brother?Liza frowned and tightened her lips for a moment, fixing her gaze down to the floor.''What is it, Liza? Is there something wrong?'' I asked worriedly, turning around to face her.''I’m pregnant...'' she announced, biting her lip.My eyes widened, my lips parted in disbelief. I was the one who was married here, and she was the one who got pregnant? How did that even happen?''Pregnant? A child in your womb? How come? I mean, I thought you didn't have a boyfriend?'' I asked, shocked to the core.Back in

Chapter 029ReeseWe were already seated at the table that Enzo had reserved earlier. His intense gaze became inevitable as he flickered his eyes at me, glinting with amusement when I rolled mine at him.He was interrupted by Liza’s loud sigh, and then she glanced up at both of us.''Sushi’s your favorite. I’ll order it for you...'' he told Liza, who tilted her head at me, as if asking what I wanted to eat.But then I remembered that one time, I read books about pregnancy, since I had always dreamed of having a baby. I had learned that raw fish wasn’t good for pregnant women.I signaled Liza not to order it, and I was thankful she clearly understood what I was trying to say.''Oh, I'm sorry, but I'm not in the mood for sushi right now...'' she shook her head, and Enzo arched a brow at her in response. ''Well, I... Reese doesn’t want the smell of raw fish...''Liza leaned back against her seat with a calm expression as Enzo moved his gaze back to me, and I smiled at him.''I’m sorry...

Chapter 030Reese''I’m sorry, but I need to go to the ladies’ room...'' I rose from my seat and promptly excused myself before I padded my way to the restroom.Thankfully, the place was deserted when I got inside. I stood before the mirror and stared at my reflection. ''Why am I letting Enzo do this to me?''I sighed, turning the faucet on, and splashed some cold water on my face. I reached for a paper towel and dried my face a little. The minimal make-up I wore was thankfully waterproof, so I didn’t have to retouch it.Liza said that Enzo was marrying that Candice girl, but why was he still wasting his time bothering me?I have to settle this once and for all. I didn't want to become my mom. A mistress, a homewrecker, a cheater.I reapplied my lipstick and stood back, viewing the result. I was pleased at how poised I looked after what Enzo’s hand had done to me under the table.I pulled the door open and stepped into the dim corridor, retracing my steps. Just as I walked past the me

I blocked my body to prevent him from inflicting further harm on Enzo, but he grabbed my wrist and dragged me out of the hallway.''Reese!'' Liza’s eyes widened when she saw Troy holding my hand. ''Troy, where are you taking her? Let her go!''I saw the recognition in Troy’s eyes, but he chose to ignore her and continued dragging me with full force, having no regard for the fact that he was causing me pain.''Sir, what’s the problem here?'' the security guard of the restaurant intervened, but Troy planted his palm against his chest and shoved him away.''She’s my wife. Don’t you dare get involved here!'' he growled, and the guard quickly stepped back, making room for us to step out.''I’m sorry. Please help Enzo...'' Chapter 033ReeseI let myself stand in front of our old room, my heart began beating in a frantic rhythm in my chest. My knees were melting, and my skin was turning cold as a result of the fear and worry that I was experiencing. I leaned against the door, and my knuckles were gripping the knob as if I was hesitant to take the steps to enter the bedroom.I took a few deep breaths, forcing the much-needed air into my lungs. I was tight with anxiety as I silently tried to reassure myself to calm down and everything would be alright.I could hear the sound of my mom’s soft sobbing from down the stairs, while Troy’s low murmurs soothed her.I finally pushed the door open, and the bedding quickly caught my attention, my heart breaking as I gazed fixedly at the bed. I walked towards it and perched on the edge, swallowing the lump in my throat as I ran my fingertips over the pink floral beddings that my mom had definitely set for Troy.I shook my head in disapproval. Studying myself in the mirror, I smiled at the visage that was looking back at me. Although my eyes were puffy and swollen as a result of all the crying that I did last night, my skin was glowing. My eyes were beaming up, and there was a genuine smile plastered across my face. I looked exactly how I felt.It was full of hopes and dreams.I yanked open the medicine cabinet where I had placed a spare toothbrush, and I was relieved mom refrained from meddling with the things that I had organized here in the bathroom.I brushed my teeth and stepped into the shower, groaning in appreciation as the warm water soothed my abused muscles, I had no idea were tensed. Chapter 060ReeseHer compliment brought a smile to my face, yet I couldn't shake off the nerves as her gaze seemed to ask for something more. Like she needed something from me, but I just couldn't pinpoint what it was. "I needed a decent job, which is why I applied here. I've heard the pay is good...''"Indeed. And I sense you're in need of a higher salary, so I'm asking you to join my team," she said, pulling a business card from her bag and offering it to me. "Work for me, Reese. I'll give you everything you want...''Flora Coleman. That was her name."Your starting salary will be fifty thousand a month," she announced, and my eyes widened in disbelief. Fifty thousand dollars a month?I paused, skeptical. It seemed too good to be true. I suspected this woman might be a scammer. However, she wouldn't be able to scam me. I possessed neither money nor property.Noticing my hesitation, she reached out and took my hand in a comforting grip. "I don't need your decision immediately. Take

Chapter 059Reese"I have decided not to interfere in their matters anymore. The bonds that connect us have been cut, not by lineage but by decision. My goal now is to change my life and erase their influence from it. Discovering their secrets is their responsibility, not mine. What I want right now is to leave this place so that I forget them and forget about all the bad memories they brought me." I paused, studying her face after the words I said, and I was glad I could see that she was supporting me in this. "I came here to ask for your help. Please help me leave this place, Liza. You're the only person I trust, and I know who can help me.""Of course, Reese. Don't worry, I will help you."Liza assumed I was without money, so she covered all my travel expenses to Los Angeles, where her recently purchased apartment awaited, prior to her trip to Manhattan. The money provided by Mr. Vincent was earmarked for my baby's essentials and to serve as my allowance while I looked for a job."

Chapter 058Reese''Liza!'' I slammed my palm against her door, and after a short wait, she opened it, blinking in the harsh sunlight. She was clad in a yellow maternity dress that stopped just above her knees, looking absolutely radiant. A wave of envy hit me; she ran her own business, and even without her baby's father, she was financially stable thanks to Enzo's help. She was surrounded by family, while I was there, completely alone and destitute."Reese?" she squinted, and I gently pushed her into the house, securing the door behind me as it closed with a resounding thud. "Reese, what happened to you?" she inquired, her eyes widening at the sight of my condition. "Oh my God! Who did this to you? Reese, what the hell is going on?"My lips trembled as I rushed toward her and enveloped her in a tight embrace, sobbing loudly. "Liza...""It's okay. You're safe here with me. Chapter 057Reese"I'll order shabu-shabu and tempura for you then," he declared, snapping the menu shut. "They were my late wife's favorite Japanese dishes during her pregnancy with our twins."I paused momentarily, sipping the tea the waiter had served to soothe my nerves, before taking a deep breath. "I am one of your twins, Mr. Vincent," I wanted to reveal, but my mouth couldn't just utter the words."Anyway, why do you want to talk with Enzo?" he inquired, taking a sip of his red wine. "I could call him for you, but I doubt he's available to talk at the moment. He's busy with Candice and Asher."What? Asher was with them too? So, he ensured his family was all together before he departed from Manhattan."H-he's busy with them?" I asked, stuttering. My heart was crying inside. The thought of him with another woman was unbearable, yet that woman was none other than my sister. They have a son, which made me feel that I didn't have the right to harbor feelings of jealousy towards her.

Chapter 056Reese"Excuse me, ma'am, you see there are other visitors lining up." he said in a polite tone, gesturing for me to sit in the waiting area. "You can sit in the lobby first."Turning slowly, I realized there were people waiting behind me, leaving me no option but to follow the security guard. He guided me to the waiting area, where I observed people seated on the couch."Thank you...'' I sent the guard a small smile, and he smiled back, throwing me an apologetic look before he walked away.I sat down next to a man in a black suit who appeared to be waiting for his interview. He had the air of someone respectable, perhaps already holding a high position in a company. Next to him was a woman who was engrossed in scrolling through her phone.Leaning back against the couch, I let out an exhausted sigh. I knew I should wait for Enzo to appear in the lobby, but the question remained: how long would that wait be?After waiting for a few minutes, the man seated beside me stood up

Chapter 055ReeseThe following morning, I received my test results, and the increasing levels of human chorionic gonadotropin indicated that my baby was doing well. I was cleared to leave the hospital, yet I remained uncertain about my first destination. Should I go to Liza's house first or to Enzo's company?I hadn't seen Mandy, and I felt relieved to finally be free from her. I was also grateful that she had paid my bill, so I no longer had to worry about it.I had just stepped out of the hospital when I was startled by a cold hand grasping my elbow."Let's go," I heard someone talk, and quickly turned to find Jerry standing behind me. His dark shades obscured his eyes, making it impossible to tell where he was looking."I'm not going with you!" I pulled away from his grasp, but he remained unmoved and instead gripped me tighter, making me flinch. He guided me to the parking lot, where I instantly noticed his car with Mandy waiting inside, her eyes hidden behind dark sunglasses as

Chapter 054Reese We made it into the parking lot, and Jerry settled me into the passenger seat, before he climbed into the driver's seat after Mandy sat in front. "Hurry up!" Mandy exclaimed, looking back at me as she strapped on her seatbelt. "We need to bring her to the hospital before something happens to her baby!" "Shut up! I know!" Jerry drove off quickly, and soon the hospital appeared in sight, though it seemed like hours had passed—excruciatingly long hours."We have an emergency!" I heard Mandy yell, and tears began to stream down my face at this point. "Emergency! Nurse, please! Help us!"I may not be very knowledgeable about pregnancy, but I understand that bleeding can be concerning. I hope that my baby is safe.Jerry carried me out of the car, and a medical staff met us, pushing a wheelchair. Mandy helped me check in while Jerry stayed outside the emergency room.A series of questions and answers followed, and I responded to them as well as I could."Why do you have

Eat now so you will have strength in what we are going to do later." He smirked, and I shivered at his lustful glare.I observed Jerry as he set the tray down on the table, grasped the spoon, and gathered a spoonful of porridge, then carefully brought it to my mouth."I'm not a fucking child! Stop doing this!" I uttered a wail as I jerked my head back and fidgeted on the bed, in an attempt to break out of my restraints.Jerry chose not to respond verbally. He used one hand to hold my jaws, forcing my mouth to open, and brought the spoon forward inside my mouth-a silent, wordless threat for me to stop opposing him. With the fear that the continued pressure from the tip of the stainless steel hurt the bruise on the corner of my lips from his and Mandy's slap earlier, I grudgingly accepted the food from the spoon."That's

I promise I'll be very quiet, please." I managed to beg in between shallow breaths, while maintaining eye contact with him as I pleaded to be released. "Please, I'm begging you..."But he ignored my cries and pleas as he secured the rope to both of my wrists. He took extra precautions and also tied my ankle to the leg of his bed, effectively making me lose all hopes of running away."This place is where you belong now! And I will never let you go again!" he hissed, looking me straight in the eyes. "Just listen to everything that I'm saying, understand?"I stared in disbelief at the psychopath in front of me. My lips trembled in fear.A knock at the main door caused me to jerk my head up, and Jerry moved away from me. Then I heard Mandy's voice calling out for Jerry, and I sobbed even harder."How is she?"
