Least Favorite Person

Indrik

I just had the best day of my life! That was something I knew without a doubt. Sure, I was super hungry, and every single muscle in my body ached but within my sternum, my heart raced with the enough euphoria to equal that of a man who had just finished a whole barrel of good beer. No, don't ask me if I drink. I don't. I gave up after drinking one glass once and waking up at the edge of the river and my pants might have been wet as well. Some of us are just too pure to be found drinking such unseemly things, I guess. No! I'm not trying to make my weakness seem like a virtue. What am I saying? It isn't a weakness. You know what? Forget I mentioned it. I was finally fulfilling my lifelong dream and nothing could stop me. It could be my imagination but I could already feel myself growing stronger by the day. Despite all of these, I still needed to eat though if I did not want to pass out with exhaustion which was why I was glad when Luna made a beeline for the kitchen as soon as we arrived. I followed her with my eyes, the sunset giving me enough light to notice that despite a hard night and day, she still looked as beautiful as ever, her auburn hair falling around her in beautiful waves. I might have released a dreamy sigh. She was just so...enchanting.

"Hey!" I suddenly heard a loud bird shriek in my ear, sending me jumping back. No! Not a bird, that was Blaire. Come on, girl, you don't go around scaring a gentleman like that. Especially not an exhausted man that was admiring the beauty of his master, Tulip. I smiled as I marveled at my own ingenuity. Wow! "Hey!" Blaire called again, her voice even more loud. Yeah, she was definitely mad.

"Hi!" I waved. "See you later, heh?" Then I made to walk around her when my eardrums almost got blown out by her angry scream. Jeez! I almost forgot what Blaire was like when she got angry.

"Where do you think you are going, you bastard?" She covered the distance between us and hit me in the chest, her eyes wet with tears. My eyes cleared when I saw that. "Where have you been? You've been gone for an entire day, Indrik! Do you have any idea about how worried I was?" She cried, her blows growing stronger. I winced. Jeez! This girl could throw a mean punch.

"Come on, I was only gone for a day." I chuckled nervously, feeling thrown off balance by the attention.

"Of course, you were. With her." She added the last part like it was an accusation. I blinked, not immediately registering what she meant.

"With who? I was just with my maid." I muttered then realized I had said the wrong thing with the way she looked at me with sad eyes like, you really are stupid, aren't you?. Then I realized just what she meant. "Hey! I already told you what really happened, didn't I? She wasn't the one who fed me the poison. I..."

"Was the one who ate the poison." She finished as her eyes turned cold. The next thing I knew, the air was knocked out of my lungs as I spat out a phantom apple. I was certain I would have vomited a real one if I had had something to eat. I rubbed my aching stomach where she had just punched me and glared at her like, what was that for? The pain was even made worse by the fact that I had been doing some belly exercises which had made the area extremely sore. Of course, I couldn't tell her that. "I never got to tell you what I thought about what you did. The nerve of you to put your life at risk like that. Do you know how worried I was? I thought you would die." She whimpered.

I blinked, feeling a rush of emotions like I always did when I met someone who cared about me. I removed my hand from my belly and moved closer to her, trying to pull her into an embrace but her cold gaze stopped me cold. "I'm sorry, okay? I was just really tired of being such a failure and a disappointment. I just...I thought that dying was better than my predicament."

"You fool." Blaire looked like she was considering punching me again but she luckily did not. I allowed myself to breath again. "You know what? Just go." She waved, wiping the tears from her eyes.

"What?" I asked, blinking in confusion. I had thought I would definitely get some more punching and slapping and she was just letting me go? That seemed off, even for Blaire who was impulsive. Maybe more so than myself.

"Someone is waiting in your room. You should hurry, she's been here all day." Despite her unsteady voice, I could still hear her displeasure. I scowled as I realized who my guest was. My nose flared as my mood plummeted. Of course, something just had to happen to ruin my day.

"What is she doing here?" I snarled, clenching my fists as I tried to not punch anything. Well, my aching fists might have helped with that decision too but that was not the point.

"How should I know?" She shrugged. It was hard to believe that she was the one who had been crying a moment ago. "You should go ask her and you had better hurry too. We already have enough problems as it is." The way she said it made it sound serious.

"What problems?" I asked, feeling a sense of unease starting to grow in the pit of my stomach.

"Later! You should go." And she walked away, leaving me gaping after her.

I sighed in exasperation as I steeled myself for my meeting with my least favorite person.
