Children Of Prophecy

Luna

There is a place for being a good teacher and there is a place for having good equipment and a perfect training ground. I had no idea who the children of prophecy were but I promised myself to say a very big thank you to them when we finally met them.

My initial plan had been to train with Indrik for a short while but the process had gone so smoothly with trees set in place to match the exact thing that we needed. Indrik found it strange but I knew that the trees were helping us. When he needed to pull himself up, there was a branch just perfect for that. When he needed obstacle courses, there were just enough low hanging branches between trees to allow for that. Whatever we needed, the trees provided. Even the staff with which I had whacked his behind a couple of times now. By the time we decided to rest, the day had been far spent and we both collapsed, exhausted, to the patch of green grass that definitely did not appear out of nowhere to the middle of our training field.

"You're brutal!" Indrik complained as he tried to regain his breath.

"I try to be." I replied. "You must be hungry. How would you like some fruits?" I asked, smiling brightly.

"What?" He sat up immediately then, "no way. I would much rather starve." I grinned widely which transformed into a chuckle and finally into a full blown laughter as I recalled what had happened last night. After my adventure with the tree person, we had found some fruits, bananas, strawberries, peaches, avocados, and a couple others when we had gone for a walk to find some food. We had lugged then back to the hut where I had subsisted on some bananas. Indrik on the other hand had eaten different kinds of fruit at a go. So much so that I was surprised he didn't drop dead from wrong food combination. That had been the fun part, for him. Then had come the fun part for me. Anyone who has ever had to live on fruits would tell you that they are never meant to fill you up. Not in the way food does at least. So, after what barely seemed like minutes, Indrik had returned to the pile of fruits and picked up another batch. He had continued like this till the fruits had completely vanished and his stomach seemed no better for it as it started to growl angrily. He had finally gone to bed looking and feeling glum and of course, he blamed me for his misfortune. I mean, I wasn't the one who forced the fruits down his throat. Sure, I could have warned him to not eat too much but he wouldn't have listened. Besides, I was curious to see how his body would react to eating that many fruits. It was fun to watch, I tell you. The way he twisted and turned on the bed, hugging his tummy which would not stop growling.

"Should we start going then?" I inquired, propping myself up on my elbow as I looked down at him in a way reminiscent of the way he had been staring down at me this morning. My cheeks still burned as I thought about the cheeky name he had given me. Tulip? Seriously?

"I can't move!" He groaned. "But I am starving. What do I do, Tulip?" He still managed a grin as he winked at me. I cursed under my breath. What was I thinking? Of course, he would remember.

"You know what? Get up! We are leaving." I rose to my feet and snapped my fingers in his face to hurry him up.

"Noooooo!" He cried as he turned over on his face.

"I'm afraid you don't have a choice." I muttered, trying for as much sympathy as I could muster.

"Oh, but I do." He turned over again so he was looking up at me, his trademark grin on his face. You are my maid. I can order you to go get me some food." A wicked light glinted in his eyes.

"Oh, you can try master but I would have you know that your maid is not here. The only other person apart from you who is here is your master." I informed to which he groaned then looked up at me hopefully.

"Tulip?" He asked. I bit my lip in concession.

"Fine! Right now, I am Tulip but as your maid, I will be Luna, nothing else." I informed, hoping that he would listen to me, at least, alone, I could bear the humiliation of being named after a flower without wanting to creep into the deepest part of the world, but with the look he gave me, I was pretty certain he wouldn't give me that chance. "Get up already." I went over to where I had dropped my staff. I had almost gotten back to him when he leaped up with a massive groan.

"Fine, you win. Tulip." I flashed a venomous look at him wishing I could hit him but I had already allowed him to address me by the name.

I went to take a final look in the cottage wondering if I would see my nameless friend in there but while the room was still as impressive as ever, it was just as empty.

The sun was already going on its final dip into the horizon when myself and Indrik, two hungry, sweat stained, exhausted people started on our journey back to the pack. I couldn't help wondering what awaited us after being away for almost a day but Indrik didn't seem to care.

Luckily, we did not run into anyone till we got back to the stables where of course, we had the luck of meeting Blaire. She gave Indrik a welcome back hug not minding his stink and gave me the stinky eye. Not that I minded though. After having such a long night and day like mine, you would find that food really is very important for your survival.
