“There’s your daddy,” the grey-haired woman said as she turned to see Giovanni and Sabrina passed through the sliding glass doors. Sabrina smiled, noticing the resemblance between Giovanni and his daughter. Her hair was as dark as his and her skin the same soft olive complexion. She had big brown eyes and little pink cheeks and she called out to her father the moment she spotted him.Giovanni’s face instantly lit up as he set the bags down next to the boarding counter and reached out to the child, as she ran to him. He kissed her cheek and rubbed noses with her before turning to Sabrina.“Sweetheart, this is my friend. Sabrina this is my daughter Olivia.” The child smiled instantly and reached out to Sabrina, nearly jumping out of her father’s embrace.“Mummy,” she said as Sabrina braced herself from tipping backward on her high heels.“This isn’t Mummy,” Giovanni said sternly. “Sabrina. Olivia say Sabrina.”“Mummy,” Olivia replied hugging Sabrina’s neck.“It’s alright,” Sabrina sai
When he met Andre coming out of Creighton’s office building the day before, he had the chance to speak with him, and understood more about the feelings the Ashfords’ had toward the man. Andre was in a fit about Sabrina’s career and told him that once they were married, she would be quitting the whole idea of playing dress up for a living. As his wife, she would be expected to behave a certain way and his mother would teach her how to be a lady of social acceptance. He was determined to get the country girl washed out of the woman he planned on marrying by the end of the month. The idea, not to mention the conversation, didn’t set well with Giovanni. When he came to France to see his sister, and to look into the woman claiming to be the mother of Silvano’s child, he never expected to find Sabrina. He saw her picture on the front page of the fashion section of the newspaper and he had never been prouder of her or felt more alone. He wanted to be with her, he always had, but then he lea
Several long moments passed by before Captain Davies’ voice came over the speaker, causing them to pull apart, but only a little.“We’ll be landing at Heathrow in a few minutes,” the voice said. “Please buckle your seatbelts and prepare for landing.”“I guess that’s our cue to sit down,” Sabrina said in a shaky voice.“I wouldn’t care if the plane dropped out of the sky right now, so long as I didn’t have to let you go.”“I suppose we do have a few minutes,” she whispered, then gasped when he lifted her in his arms and carried her to the sofa she had been sitting on. Olivia was still sleeping soundly as Giovanni laid the woman on the cushions, pinning her against them with his weight. Sabrina was amazed at how familiar, and how comfortable, it felt to be in his arms again. All thoughts of marriage and fiancées flew from her mind as his lips trailed a heated path down her neck to her collarbone, his hand slipping beneath her tank top. Her heart was pounding, and her stomach was twist
The chopper was quiet, and the air filled with tension as they flew to Northallerton. Both Giovanni and Sabrina were wrapped up in their own thoughts, and Olivia was busy watching out the window at the sights, as she sat on her father’s strong knee. One way or the other, Giovanni had to open the woman’s eyes before it was too late. If he went with Andre’s timetable, he had less than four weeks to break them up. With a little careful planning, and perhaps a bit of interference on Sandra’s side, he would succeed.Sabrina arrived home with a flurry of excitement that made her forget her anger. Derek and Kristin’s children saw the Mercedes SUV Creighton sent to Northallerton to meet them pull up the road, and ran the distance from their house to their grandparents’. The door was flung open the instant the car stopped, and excited children began pulling her arm. Hugs were exchanged before she could even get out as Olivia huddled to her father, hiding her face in his large chest.“Let us ou
“Can you walk now?” she asked, glancing up to look at him.“I’ll need your help,” he lied and gingerly took another step forward.Step after step, they slowly made their way back toward the house, hearing the laughter of children in the yard. As they neared the back of the house, Creighton and Andrew were the first to look up, seeing their little sister holding tight to the limping man. They hurried to her aid and took the man under the arms, helping him back to the house as Sandra hurried in for ice and Emma began ushering children out of the way.“What happened?” William asked, opening the back screen-door so they could precede through. “I kicked him,” Sabrina said in a shaky voice. “I didn’t mean to. I was aiming for the ball.”“It wasn’t your fault,” Giovanni insisted, feeling suddenly very guilty for making such a fuss. “I’ll be fine. I just need to rest it for a bit.”“Maybe we should call an ambulance?” Emma suggested.“We have something just as good,” Sandra said as Irena and
“I offered the use of The Tornado. Purely out of necessity.”“The yacht?” Sandra gasped. “That’s a brilliant idea.”“I had her brought out of drydock this morning, and suggested they take her out for a maiden run, before we start using her this summer.”“For someone who says he’s not a romantic, you come up with some pretty incredible ideas.”“I have a wife who has taught me well,” he smiled with a wicked grin.“Tell me the truth,” she asked a moment later, a serious expression embracing her eyes. “You don’t want Sabrina marrying Andre, do you.”“No, I don’t. I know she’ll be unhappy, and he’ll do whatever he can to keep her away from the family, even more than he already does.”“If you had the opportunity to stop it, would you?” Creighton drew a deep breath as he tipped back in the chair. “Yes, I would.”“Then maybe I can help arrange that opportunity. I know you don’t want me to get involved, but I can’t help it,” she said quickly in an attempt to stop his objections. “I love Sabr
Giovanni wrapped her in his embrace as they began to move across the deck. They were like synchronized swimmers moving in unison, wrapped in each other’s arms. Sabrina closed her eyes and laid her head against his broad shoulder. It was such a comfortable feeling, a normal feeling. Like old times. She could hear his heartbeat beneath her ear, tapping out a steady rhythm that made her sigh contently. This was a wonderful evening and she was not going to forget it any time soon.“Do you want to go back?” he asked her in a hushed tone.“Do you?” she asked, moving away slightly so she could look into his handsome face.“No,” he answered flatly, staring at her full lips.“Neither do I,” she whispered, leaning in to him and kissing his lips tenderly. The seconds ticked slowly by before he found the courage to increase the pressure, pulling her against him in a tight, gentle hold. The feel of her body in the strapless gown made him forget all thought of taking things slowly. He wanted her,
As the rays of dawn began to filter through the window, Sabrina found herself embraced in a peace she hadn’t felt in many long years. At last she began to drift to sleep, held in Giovanni’s protective embrace. He listened as her breathing become slow and steady and knew she had fallen asleep. He sighed as he thought about the past four hours and all the love they had shared. Then he thought of Andre and he frowned. He was not going to allow her to go back to him, but he didn’t know what he could do to keep her away.Sabrina had always been a stubborn woman and when she made a commitment she stuck to it. She had agreed to marry the prat, and even though everyone knew she was miserable, she would be hard pressed to call off the wedding. Somehow, he had to find a way to make Andre be the one to break off the engagement. But how?As his eyes fluttered shut and sleep began to steal over him, he thought of those who loved her as much as he did. Maybe one of them would be able to help him de
