Giovanni wrapped her in his embrace as they began to move across the deck. They were like synchronized swimmers moving in unison, wrapped in each other’s arms. Sabrina closed her eyes and laid her head against his broad shoulder. It was such a comfortable feeling, a normal feeling. Like old times. She could hear his heartbeat beneath her ear, tapping out a steady rhythm that made her sigh contently. This was a wonderful evening and she was not going to forget it any time soon.

“Do you want to go back?” he asked her in a hushed tone.

“Do you?” she asked, moving away slightly so she could look into his handsome face.

“No,” he answered flatly, staring at her full lips.

“Neither do I,” she whispered, leaning in to him and kissing his lips tenderly.

The seconds ticked slowly by before he found the courage to increase the pressure, pulling her against him in a tight, gentle hold. The feel of her body in the strapless gown made him forget all thought of taking things slowly. He wanted her,

As the rays of dawn began to filter through the window, Sabrina found herself embraced in a peace she hadn’t felt in many long years. At last she began to drift to sleep, held in Giovanni’s protective embrace. He listened as her breathing become slow and steady and knew she had fallen asleep. He sighed as he thought about the past four hours and all the love they had shared. Then he thought of Andre and he frowned. He was not going to allow her to go back to him, but he didn’t know what he could do to keep her away.Sabrina had always been a stubborn woman and when she made a commitment she stuck to it. She had agreed to marry the prat, and even though everyone knew she was miserable, she would be hard pressed to call off the wedding. Somehow, he had to find a way to make Andre be the one to break off the engagement. But how?As his eyes fluttered shut and sleep began to steal over him, he thought of those who loved her as much as he did. Maybe one of them would be able to help him de

“He’s a good man,” she sobbed.“He’s a tyrant with a Greater Than Thou attitude. He expects you to give up everything you want, just to be his wife. He’s a jerk and he doesn’t deserve you.”“I can’t do this,” she shouted as she pushed past him, running through the ship to the room they had shared the night before. She fell to the made bed and began sobbing uncontrollably into the pillow, feeling her heart tearing from her chest. She was being torn in two. She loved Giovanni more than any man she had ever known. She knew she could no longer deny her heart, but she had a commitment to Andre. How could life have taken such a horrible turn of events in such a short time? Why couldn’t Giovanni have stayed in her past and allowed her to move on without him? She didn’t love Andre, but she promised to marry him, and she couldn’t walk away from that. His mother was making plans for an elaborate wedding, and she couldn’t force them to face the shame of her defiance. They would be publicly and

The trip back to the flat that night, was dark and dismal with storm clouds promising a heavy rain. Sabrina pulled her car into the underground parking near the lift and shut it off, drawing a deep breath of relief. She hated driving in bad weather, especially this late at night. The streets were deserted, and the travel was long and boring, but the parking garage was worse of all. It was dimly lit, cold and very frightening. She could imagine people hiding behind every shadow in the place, ready to spring out at her at any given moment. She took her portfolio tote with her newest designs out of the backseat of her Lexus and locked the door, then walked the few steps to the lift and pressed the up button. Once again, she had turned Andre down for a supper date. That made four nights in a row, not counting the weekend. The problem with that, was it made the man suspicious, and left her very hungry. She rode the lift to the top floor and stepped out, spying the vase of colorful carnatio

“I didn’t think about it at the time,” he admitted. “I was rather hoping you were still on the pill.”“I stopped them after we broke up,” she told him. “I didn’t have any reason to take them.”“So, Andre uses the contraception?”“We haven’t…I mean he doesn’t…we are waiting,” she said, stumbling over her words as she turned a brilliant shade of red.“You haven’t slept with the man you’re going to marry?” he asked, feeling stunned that any man would be in a relationship with this woman and not be begging her to let him make love to her.“No, we haven’t,” she snapped. “The fact that I decided to wait, is none of your business.”“You decided to wait? He hasn’t been as patient?”“That’s not what I meant. I don’t know why I’m discussing this with you.”“How many men have you slept with?” he asked with a frown.“That’s none of your business,” she said again.“It is, if I have to worry about diseases,” he said, thinking of any excuse to get his answers.“I do not have diseases. You have to ha

Sabrina arrived at the office shortly after noon the next day. She had awoken after a fitful night of tossing and turning, and decided it was a good day for a change. She did her hair in a long braid down her back the way she liked it, not the way Andre or Giovanni thought was best. She did her makeup with an unusual flair for detail, accenting her beautiful sapphire blue eyes with a thin grey line. Her slender figure was accentuated in a simple pencil skirt of basic black with a white button up blouse, black mule pumps and her favorite diamond pendent necklace and matching earrings, Creighton gave her when she turned sixteen. She looked stunning and ready to face the world as the events met her. This was her day to shine and she was determined to make sure she had the controlling reigns, not a man she mistakenly surrendered her control to. “Well, good afternoon,” Marie said with a shocked expression. “Where have you been?”“Nowhere,” she smiled. “I just decided to take the morning

“Is different bad?” Sabrina laughed.“No, different for you is good, but I can’t help wondering what happened. Who changed you?”“I did,” she said proudly. “I have decided to take charge of my life, starting right now. I’m tired of being bullied and pushed around. I’m tired of people telling me what I’m going to do, instead of asking me what I want. I’ve decided to stand up for myself and move forward, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”“I’m very proud of you,” Marie said. “I think having your past come back to greet you was a great idea. Maybe you can find some happiness in it for yourself.”“It wasn’t Giovanni, if that’s what you mean. It may have taken me some time to find my backbone, but I have it and I’m going to keep it this time.”“Good for you,” Marie said with a smile as she left the office to answer the phone. Sabrina stepped to the mirror and smiled, looking at the proud expression shining on her face.“Yes, it is,” she said to the reflection. “It is very good for

“What problems do we have?” he snapped. “The only thing wrong with our relationship is the way you’ve been acting lately. I certainly would like to know what you’ve been doing to create such a mood.”“Enough,” she said boldly. “I’m not dealing with any more of this right now. I don’t have time to discuss it. I’ll see you at seven at my place and we can talk then. Goodbye,” she said hanging up the phone and slipping it back into her purse.“Is everything alright?” Giovanni asked when she returned to the main room, unaware that her voice had echoed as loudly as it did, with no furnishing to help soundproof the office.“Fine,” she said with a frown.“Good, then let’s get some lunch. I’m starving.” Giovanni’s smile was what she needed to feel at ease again and she took his hand and walked out of the office. It had rained earlier that morning, leaving the air crisp and clean. The sun was warm, and she instantly felt better as they walked the few blocks to the sidewalk café where they had

Sabrina stopped by the market on her way home from work and purchased the items she needed for supper, along with a few healthy snacks to hold her over until she was able to do some real shopping. With the help of an online baking site, she planned a delicious dinner of grilled salmon fettuccini, spring salad, and white wine to wash it down. With a small smile, she realized she hadn’t had a single drink since her night on board The Tornado with Giovanni, and the truth was, she didn’t really miss it. She realized all on her own, after he mentioned it of course, that she was drinking more than she ever had. It was becoming a crutch for her as a means of escaping the frustration and arguments, and she was tired of relying on liquor to calm her down enough to face another day.Supper was nearly completed by the time the doorman rang to say Andre was there. She smiled happily as she opened the wine and finished the final touches to her dinner. Playing house was fun, but it was not somethi

Sandra hung up the phone with a slam, then glanced to her grandparents who were sitting at the kitchen table. She was starting to get angry with all the rejections and dead-end avenues. She called Davies and told him she wanted him to get the plane ready to go to France, only to be told the police had restricted his flying. They were concerned that whomever it was that had killed her husband would try and sabotage the jet.She was getting frustrated and felt like she was being held back. If she didn’t know better, she would think she was being placed under lockdown. She could understand the police’s concern, but she had more men around her then they had at Fort Knox, and she would be willing to take all of them with her if she needed to.“I can’t leave the house, I can’t go to France, I can’t even gather eggs,” she grumbled as she joined the older couple. “What am I supposed to do? I can’t sit here and wait until doomsday to find out what happened to my husband.”“Honey, you’re going

The room was warm as the setting sun shone through the blinds. Two detectives sat on the sofa, watching as the man continued to pace the floor. Trying to keep him calm was growing increasingly harder with each hour.Creighton could only assume the horror his family was going through, not to mention Sandra. They had been having difficulties, but this made all of that seem trivial. He had to call her, he had to contact her somehow and let her know he was alive, but the police were refusing to allow him the chance. They had to keep him concealed for the time being, though it was steadily becoming impossible. The man was acting like a caged animal, anxiously trying to find a means of escape.“How much longer do we have to sit here?” he growled, looking to those gathered around.“We need you to remain patient for a little longer,” a bald-headed man told him. “Monsieur Ashford, we understand what you’re going through…”“Like hell you do,” Creighton snapped. “I have a pregnant wife at home w

“I know she’ll be happy when it’s over,” Emma said, returning to the room, her eyes red from the tears she’d been wiping away. “She can’t let Brandon go to school, and she has to keep the children inside instead of letting them go out to play.”“I’m sure they are going stir crazy,” Cathy said with a frown. “Especially Grace. That little girl is used to having the freedom of the farm to run and play.”“The only good thing is the weather,” William told them. “It’s been really wet, and she doesn’t like getting her dresses dirty.”“Sounds like her aunt,” Andrew said with a soft chuckle.“Maybe we should take this meeting over to my sister’s,” Cathy suggested with a sideways grin.“Let me call Derek and Kristin,” William said, standing and walking to the phone on the wall. “They wanted to know what you found out.”“Just have them meet us at Sandra’s,” Andrew told him. “We can discuss this all there.”“I thought Sabrina and Irena would be here,” Cathy said, looking at Emma who was wrapping

Parker and Harvey held off the reporters for as long as they could alone, then eventually had to call NHT’s security. Within a few short hours, there were enough burly looking men to scare off anyone trying to get near the house. Sandra kept her children inside, though it really wasn’t difficult. The rain had eased by supper, but just like the past several days, it picked up again this morning.Max growled as he laid of the entry. The noise of cameras clicking, and the soft hum of voices mingled among the breezes of the day. She had tried to watch television, but every station was reporting on the accident. Eventually, she had no choice but to surrender and put on Grace’s favorite princess movie. At least it kept them from listening to those who insisted that there was no hope in finding any answers this soon.Sandra drew a deep breath as she wiped the moisture from her forehead. She had decided to keep herself busy and baked two apple pies, along with nearly a hundred sugar cookies.

“No, it’s about assuming you knew what I would want. You did this, claiming it was for us when it was for you. You can’t stand the idea that your little sister has something you never would. It was bad enough when I felt like I was competing with Creighton for your attention, but now I’m watching you compete with Sandra for the mother of the year award.”“Stop comparing me to Sandra!” Cathy screamed. “It’s not my fault she’s perfect. She’s always been everyone’s favorite. I can’t tell you how many boyfriends I’ve dumped after I found out they were using me to get close to her. I didn’t want Creighton, but after he chose her over me, it made me angry. I was competing with her again, and she was too stupid to realize it. He chose that simple, no makeup, no fuss girl over me. She shares his bed, when I’m a better lover then she would ever be. She has his money, his admiration, your parents’ admiration, even my grandparents enjoy spending time with her over me. She even has a perfect body

“Maybe Michelle heard from him,” the boy said hopefully.“I haven’t spoken with her, but I want to call in the morning. She may know something more than the police do.”The two were silent for a long time as they considered their own thoughts, until Sandra realized the tea was gone. She looked to Brandon who looked like he was finally able to fall asleep, then stood and took the cups to the sink.“Come on, son,” she told him, wrapping her arm around his shoulders. “Let’s see if we can get some sleep.”“Mum, can I come sleep with you?” Brandon asked once they reached the second floor of their house.Sandra smiled and hugged the boy, nodding as he looked up to her.“You can sleep on your daddy’s side,” she told him. “Just don’t tell him I let you in our bed. He may get jealous.”Brandon smiled as he walked with her into the bedroom. Sandra helped him between the covers and tucked him in, then left to check on Grace. The house was silent and soft snores of her little girl could be heard

  • TRUST ME   Chapter 414

Sandra paced her bedroom trying to stop her mind from racing through the events of the day. Derek had come home after his mother called him, insisting on picking up Brandon from school. Sabrina called to say the reporters were going crazy with the news of the Tornado’s fire and that she and Giovanni would be home as soon as they could get there.Irena spoke with her parents and insisted on calling in a prescription for Sandra’s nerves, though she refused to use it. She needed to stay alert and concentrate in order to determine what was going on. The last thing she needed was to surrender to the effects of a drug. After speaking with Andrew, William informed the rest of the family about Cathy’s surgery, though he wouldn’t go into detail. He assured them he would check into the reports from his end and stay abreast of the investigation. Once Cathy felt like traveling, they would drive out to Yorkshire to be with the family.Nana tried to get Sandra to let her stay overnight, but she was

  • TRUST ME   Chapter 413

Sandra opened her eyes and looked around. She was in her bedroom, yet she couldn’t remember laying down. The house was silent and the soft pattering of rain outside reminded her that the dog had made a muddy mess of the entry. Then she remembered her grandfather and William coming over, and slowly began to piece together the last thing she remembered. There had been an accident on the Tornado and three bodies were found. She knew in her heart it wasn’t Creighton. She couldn’t even begin to guess who would have been on their ship, or how it ended up at sea, but she knew her husband wasn’t the one killed. Now all she had to do, was convince the others into believing her.Sandra stepped down the stairs to hear Grace talking to her great-grandfather, the dog running from one room to another as he chased his rope and the smells of food drifting out of the kitchen. She stepped into the living room and saw Papa sitting beside Grace, one of her own books open in front of him as he listened to

  • TRUST ME   Chapter 412

Sandra stared at the two men for a long moment as their words began to sink in. When she spoke with her husband earlier that morning, he was still at the hotel. He didn’t mention having plans of returning to the yacht. Why would he go back there when he told her he was packing to come home? Then she thought about the bodies found. One was female. Who was it? Did Creighton lie to her about not being involved with Garcon’s assistant? Had he gone there to meet with her, perhaps a final rendezvous before coming home to his family?“Did you hear what we said?” Papa asked her.“It’s impossible,” she began, her anger taking over her words. Sandra looked down at Grace who was trying to wipe the muddy water from her little dress. She hadn’t understood what her grandparents were saying. All she cared about was her soiled outfit.“Sweetheart, go upstairs and find a clean dress,” Sandra told the little girl. “Put that one in the hamper and warsh your hands. We’ll make lunch when you’ve finished.
