My stomach churned. I knew Maddox was out of the territory, but without Xander here, I was agitated. Even if I didn’t want to, I was slowly relying on Xander. I knew I could do things on my own, but a part of me believed that if the time came and I could not do it anymore, my mate would come to save me. So, not having him around was giving me a bad feeling.

I wanted the assurance that he was just somewhere, watching me.

My body jerked when I heard the main gate rattle. Someone was trying to get in.

‘Please, please, don’t be Maximus.’ I mumbled under my breath, slipping my hand under the pile of clothes until I managed to grab the dagger.

The door to my cell had been left open. No one was stationed in the corridor like before, so they thought locking the door was unnecessary. Maybe they really thought I could throw this dagger and kill them.

Or Maddox just had a more wicked plan.
