Emily’s POV
I groaned, burying my face in my hands. “You have no idea,” I muttered, already dreading the inevitable barrage of questions from her.
Sarah chuckled, giving me a playful nudge. “Spill the beans, girl! Did you finally move on from that ex of yours with some new he-wolf?”
“I wish,” I mumbled. “No, I accidentally got into the wrong car at the airport and almost got injured by a huge dog.”
Sarah's eyes widened in shock. “You what? Oh my god, Emmy, are you alright?” She reached over to inspect my head, where a small bump was starting to form from the car door incident.
“I'm fine, I'm fine,” I assured her, waving her off. “It was just... really embarrassing.” I shuddered, remembering the intensity of Alpha James' cool gaze and the teasing jabs from his younger brother.
Before Sarah could interrogate me further, she pulled the car into the familiar garage of the Parker family mansion. As she stopped the engine, she turned to me, her expression somber.
“Em, I have to tell you something.” She paused, taking a deep breath. “Your grandfather... he has been hospitalized for a while now.”
My heart plummeted in my chest. Despite my calm exterior, the news sent a jolt of worry through me. Grandfather had always been my rock, the one person in this family who truly loved me.
“I have to go see him,” I murmured, already reaching for the door handle. Stepping out of the car, I felt a wave of nostalgia crash over me. This place, this mansion, had once been my home - but I had always been an outcast here, adopted by my grandfather after my mother's death in childbirth.
The rest of the Parker family, including my father and stepmother Linda, had never accepted me. And now, my half-sister Jessica was set to marry Robert - the very man who had cheated on me with her two years ago, shattering my heart.
I shuddered, banishing those painful memories as I approached the grand front door, my luggage in hand. Taking a deep breath, I pressed the doorbell, feeling my heart pound in my chest.
The door swung open, and I was greeted by Aunt Betty, the family's longtime maid. Her eyes widened in surprise as she took in the sight of me.
“Miss Emily! We didn't know you were coming back today,”she exclaimed, ushering me inside. She quickly collected my luggage, casting me a warm smile. “It's so good to have you home.”
I forced a polite smile, my heart racing with fear. "Is Jessica around? I'd like to speak with her."
“Oh, yes, she is in her room,” Aunt Betty replied, already wheeling my bags towards the grand staircase. “I will just take these up for you.”
With a deep breath, I steeled myself and made my way upstairs, my steps quickening as I approached Jessica's bedroom. My brow furrowed as I began pounding hard on her door.
After a moment, it swung open, revealing my half-sister clad in a skimpy nightgown. The nightgown stopped at her thighs and left little to no imagination. Her eyes narrowed as they landed on me.
“Who dares to—" Her voice faltered as recognition dawned. “Sister,” she drawled, her tone dripping with feigned surprise. “You are back.”
It was the first time she had called me the word ‘sister,’ and I could see right through her.
“You should have told me you were coming back sooner; I would have come to pick you up at the airport,” she said, leaning against the doorframe. “By the way, I am with Robert now, I mean, my mate. We have been together for almost six months now. It turns out he was my true mate all along, not some wolfless omega like you.”
I snorted, barely containing my disgust. “I'm not surprised. You two were always shameless.”
Jessica's lips curled into a malicious smile. “Well, we have the blessing of our friends and family.” Her gaze narrowed, and she tilted her head, appraising me. “But I suppose you wouldn't understand what it's like to have a mate. After all, you don't even have a wolf.”
She let out a short, humorless laugh. “And no one loves you, not even the moon goddess. You are nothing more than a stray.”
The words stung, striking a deep chord within me. Before I could even think, my hand lashed out, slapping Jessica across the face with a resounding crack.
She recoiled, her eyes wide with shock as she clutched her reddening cheek. “How dare you!” she shrieked.
I stood my ground, glaring defiantly at my half-sister. “You only found your 'mate' by stealing someone else's fiancé. And now you are living shamelessly with him in my father’s house, huh?” I mocked. “I hit you because I despise you. You are nothing but a mistress, and Robert will never take you seriously.”
“You insolent brat!” Jessica's voice rose to a shrill shriek. “Youare just an illegitimate daughter born of a whore that no one wants around, not even our father!”
She stepped closer, her lips curled in a malicious sneer. “Didn't you know? Father sent you away to study in another pack because he couldn't stand the sight of you. You've been abandoned. You have no value left, no right to come back here and fight me!”
I couldn't stop myself. The rage and hurt bubbling within me overflowed, and before I knew it, my hand was flying through the air, striking Jessica's face once more.
Her eyes widened in shock and pain, and she let out an enraged shriek. In a flash, she was lunging towards me, her hands outstretched as if to grab at my hair.
But in her blind fury, Jessica misjudged her footing and went tumbling to the floor with a resounding thud. Almost instantly, her shrieks filled the air.
“Robert! Robert, help me!” She wailed, clutching her face and curling up on the ground.
I stared in disbelief, utterly stunned by the scene unfolding before me. Had she truly just faked an injury to play the victim?
The sound of hurried footsteps echoed down the hall, and I knew it was only a matter of time before the rest of the household descended upon us.
Emily’s POVBefore I could even consider walking away, the sound of hurried footsteps filled the corridor. My stepmother, Linda, and my father, Mr. Parker, rushed to the scene, their faces twisted with concern.Jessica looked up at them, her eyes brimming with crocodile tears. "Father, Emily hit me!" she cried, her voice trembling. "She just kept slapping me, over and over again!"Linda immediately rushed to Jessica's side, fussing over her swollen cheek. "Oh, my darling daughter!" she cooed, tossing a venomous glare in my direction. "How dare you attack her the moment you set foot in this house?"I stood my ground, my arms folded across my chest. "I won't deny it," I said boldly. "I slapped Jessica, and I won't hesitate to do it again."I fixed Linda with a pointed stare. "After all, she did seduce my fiancé. And your inability to discipline your own daughter properly has turned her into a homewrecker, just like you."Mr. Parker's face contorted with fury, and before I could even bra
Alpha Michael’s POVI let out a huff of exasperation as I stepped out of the car, the leash of our massive wolfhound, Conan, clutched firmly in my hand. The guards in the courtyard immediately straightened, saluting us as James emerged from the vehicle. It had been years since he'd set foot in this place – the grand Blackwood mansion, the heart of our family's pack. And now, James was back to take his rightful place as Alpha, and also because our grandfather had been diagnosed with cancer.Conan let out a booming bark, straining against the leash and dragging me towards the mansion's entrance. I struggled to maintain my grip, glancing back at James, but his expression remained impassive as ever."Brother, help me!" I exclaimed, my face screwed up in exasperation. "Conan only listens to you, you know."But James merely shrugged, and I watched as the guards rushed to my aid, forcing the noisy wolfhound from my grasp, but it was useless. Conan pulled me into the house, making a beeline f
Emily’s POVThe bar was alive with pulsing energy, the air filled with the scent of alcohol and the thrumming beat of the music. Yet amidst the lively crowd, I sat alone, my face flushed and my vision clouded by the sharp volume of beer bottles scattered across the tabletop.I was drinking to drown out the pain and the sting of rejection that still lingered in my heart after my confrontation with the Parker family. My father's cruel words, the way he had disowned me and cast me out of his home—it was all too much to bear.As I reached for another bottle, a pair of expensive boots caught my eye. Slowly, I lifted my gaze, only to find the striking figure of Alpha Michael approaching me. He looked different from the man I had encountered that morning—more polished, more handsome, with a small wolf tattoo peeking out from the collar of his shirt.I glared at him, my expression one of cold indifference. I had no desire to entertain anyone, let alone the brother of the man I had accidentall
Emily’s POVAs Alpha James approached the desk, the officer quickly bowed his head in respect. "Welcome, Alpha James," he said, his voice masked with respect. The officer then turned his gaze to Michael and his friends, his expression hardening. "Step aside," he commanded, gesturing for one of them to vacate the seat. "The Alpha wishes to speak."But James raised a hand, his features blank. "I don't mind standing," he said, his deep voice cutting through the tension. "Now, let's get straight to the point."The officer cleared his throat, glancing nervously between the brothers. "Well, Alpha, the situation is this: there was a violent altercation at the bar, and Miss Emily here—" he gestured towards me "—was allegedly swinging a bottle at Michael after he grabbed her wrist and demanded an apology."I kept my expression composed, refusing to show any outward signs of the fear I felt in James' presence. Michael's friends were quick to cut in, their voices rising in a chorus of accusation
Emily’s POVThe sound of muffled smooching stirred me from my slumber, and I sat up with a groan, the blanket falling from my chest. There, on a small chair in the corner, were Sarah and her boyfriend, Jake, locked in a passionate embrace. Their lips were fused together in a deep, eager kiss, moving in sync with a tangible hunger. Sarah's fingers were tangled in Jake's hair, pulling him closer as his hands roamed the curves of her body, caressing her sides with a gentle desire. Soft sighs and the occasional quiet moan punctuated the air, betraying the intensity of their passion."Get a room!" I exclaimed, grabbing a throw pillow and tossing it at the oblivious couple. "You couldn't have waited until I was gone?"Sarah pulled away, her hair disheveled and a smitten smile plastered on her face. "Sorry, Emmy," she giggled. "I just couldn't resist." She disentangled herself from Jake, who looked equally pleased with himself."Someone kept calling your phone all night," Sarah continued, s
Alpha James’s POVThe heavy rain pounded against the window of my office, the downpour threatening to breach the glass barrier. With a grunt, I strained to close the window, the cold droplets sprinkling my face as I wiped the moisture from my hair.Just as I was about to turn away, the sound of footsteps echoed behind me. Whirling around, I found my mother, Mrs. Blackwood, standing in the dimly lit room, her floral dress clinging to her drenched frame, tears streaking down her face."Mom, what's wrong?" I asked, my brow furrowing with worry as I moved to wrap my arm around her.She sniffled, her gaze meeting mine. "Son, it's your grandfather," she breathed. "H- he is missing. The rumor is that he has run away from the hospital, and the pack warriors are searching for him now."Rage flared within me, and I clenched my jaw. "Who was in charge of looking after him?" I demanded."There were actually two warriors; one is in the living room, while the other still out in the rain looking for
Alpha James’s POVExhausted from the day's events, I collapsed onto my bed, closing my eyes in a desperate attempt to find some rest. The constant calls to secure my grandfather's accounts and arrange for a round-the-clock caretaker had left me drained, both physically and mentally.Just as I was about to drift off, a sharp knock at the door jolted me from my reverie. I let out a low growl, thoroughly annoyed at the interruption. "Come in," I grumbled.Without hesitation, my brother strode through the door, his expression unusually serious. I shook my head, regarding him with a wary gaze. "What do you want, Michael?"He sat down on the edge of the bed, his voice taking on an almost pleading tone. "Brother, I need you to grant me a wish."I furrowed my brow, perplexed by his request. "A wish? What are you talking about?"Michael inched closer, his eyes locked onto mine. "It's my birthday gift, since you missed it. I need you to grant it, without question."I let out a heavy sigh, my re
Emily’s POVI arrived at Westbrook International Airport on a hot, humid evening, dragging my luggage through the sweltering heat. After two years away in the Duskfall Pack, I was finally back home. As I made my way to the parking lot, the weight of my suitcases seemed to grow with each step and sweat beaded on my forehead.Dressed in a floral top and denim shorts, I scanned the crowded lot for any sign of my best friend Sarah. But there was no one. I figure my own family wouldn't bother to pick me up either. With a sigh, I set down my luggage, about to call Sarah, when a sleek red car pulled up in front of me. Assuming it must be her, I opened the door and climbed inside, relief crashing over me as the cool air conditioning enveloped me.“You are right on time,” I breathed, settling my bags at my feet. But as I turned to greet my friend, I was met with a deep, masculine voice that most certainly did not belong to Sarah.“Who are you?”My heart plummeted as I locked eyes with the spea
