Ch. 102 THE INCIDENT

Emily’s POV

I clutched Robert's jacket tightly around my trembling body, watching silently as he finished talking with the officers. They were lecturing him and reprimanding me for my earlier outburst.

"She shouldn't be going around attacking people," one officer scolded. "If Dr. Karl had fought back, the situation could have been much worse. She is very lucky he decided to drop the charges tonight."

Robert flashed them an apologetic smile. "It's my fault, officer. I should have been looking after my girlfriend better, I promise it won’t happen again."

The cop let out a laugh, his expression one of ironic amusement. Clearly, the bribe Robert had slipped him had eased his concerns.

"Well, in that case, we will drop the charges," the officer concluded, shaking his head. "Just keep a tighter leash on her, yeah?"

Biting my tongue, I forced myself to remain silent as Robert guided me out of the station and towards his glossy, black car. The familiar car was a welcomed sight, a small escape
