Alexander's eyes narrowed dangerously,and the temperature in the room seemed to drop,”You misunderstand.” He said icily. “Lea may have chosen to stay,but she is under my protection. Touch her again,and I will show you why legends call me cursed.” A collective shiver rippled through the hall. Even Alpha Rowan hesitated. “I don't need your protection,” I said suddenly. My voice rang louder than I had intended. “This is my fight Alexander. If I'm going to survive here. I need to do it on my own terms.” Alexander's golden eyes flickered briefly before he stepped back. “As you wish”. He said smoothly. “But don't expect me to save you,when they turn on you again.’ The silence that followed was suffocating. I finally turned to Alpha Rowan,raising my chin,despite my thundering heart. “What happens now?.” I asked. He smirked,”Now you prove yourself. If you want to stay in the pack. You'll have to earn your place like everyone else.” His tone was full of hatred,and his eyes glinted with malice. ****** The next morning,the entire pack gathered in the training grounds. The sun was just shining,casting long shadows over the frost covered earth. I stood at the centre of the clearing,my breath fogging in the crisp air. Alpha Rowan walked forward,followed by Ethan and Sophie. His voice boomed across the clearing. “Lea claims she deserved to stay in this pack.” He announced. “But words mean nothing here. If she wants to prove her worth,she will have to fight for it.” Whispers erupted through the crowd,and I felt sick on my stomach. “I'll take her on,” a voice called out. My heart sank as Ethan stepped forward,his smirk sharp as a blade. “No,” Sophie cuts in,stepping beside him. Her blonde hair in a ponytail. She was wearing a black leather pants and a fur coat. Her smile was as wicked as the red lipstick she wore. “This is my fight.” Her eyes burned with hatred as she stared me down. Alpha Rowan raised a hand to silence them both. “Lea will face anyone who challenges her.” He declared. “One after another,until she can't stand or until she submits.” My eyes widened in shock,the blood drained from my face. This wasn't a test. It was a death sentence. A burly wolf named Marcus stepped forward. His smirk was as cruel as his strokes,but something has awakened in me since my transformation. My wolf stirred beneath my skin,and even though I couldn't shift. I felt her strength coursing through me. Marcus lunged and I dodged instinctively,using my petite figure as an advantage. I landed a solid kick to his rib that sent him sprawling. The crowd gasped,murmurs spreading like wildfire. The second challenger came next,then the third. Each fight pushed me closer to my limit,but I refused to fall. My breath came in ragged gasps,my muscles begging for mercy. But I stood tall. My glowing red eyes daring anyone to come forward. Finally Sophie stepped forward. Her smile was triumphant ,her confidence shining bright. “I'll end this,” she sneered.,slipping effortlessly into her wolf form. Sleek and white. The crowd cheered as she circled me,her growls low and menacing. I clenched my fists,feeling the faint stir of my wolf beneath my skin. “She's weak.” Ethan growled behind me “ she doesn't belong here,and never will.” His words were like fuel to flame. Rage overwhelmed me,and I felt the fire of my wolf ignite once more. I closed my eyes,praying that my wolf will answer me,and this time,she did. Power surged through me,and when I opened my eyes,the crowd gasped. My red fur shimmered,my claws extended like sharp blades. Sophie lunged at me suddenly and I reacted immediately,meeting her mid air,my strength overwhelming hers. For the first time, I felt the truth of Alexander's words. I didn't belong to this pack. I was something more. As Sophie crashed to the ground beneath me, I let out a triumphant growl. But the victory was short lived.
