KNOX

How could I explain this to him?

“Did you say a woman I have been married to since all these while is your mate, Uncle?”

I nodded, ashamed but what choice did I have?

“She's your mate. You've known from the onset.”

I looked at Sage who had it clear on her face that she was scared. But I shifted closer to her so that she could feel nothing but safety while Aegon remained in his feelings. “Aegon—” I then called. “You need to calm down and listen to me. I didn't mean to hurt you.”

“I didn't say you did—” he chuckled, standing on his feet. “I'll need some time to take in this news so you must give me some—” he walked away and was out of our sight. The next time we set eyes on Aegon, it was moments later when he walked back into the scene so that he could take his flask and with this, the man was gone from our sight again.

“He hates us—” Sage cried. “I can see it.”

“You don't know what you're talking about—” I cried. “He's my nephew and a good man at that. Aegon cannot bring hi

SAGE I shouldn't have returned to the pack with Knox, but I didn't have a choice because, at that point, the man was not going to let me be on my own, and talk more about finding my way. “You're going back to The pack with me and nothing is going to change that—” In a commanding tone I could not refuse, Knox picked up Aegon's lifeless body on the floor. This was a moment I had refused to believe was real but I didn't have a choice because it played right in front of me. Another reason I could not refuse to go back to the pack with Knox. I didn't want to die, even though it seemed otherwise all these while. A sigh ran out of my mouth and my mouth opened in more tears—while I walked behind Knox who was ahead of me with the lifeless body. How much longer before we arrived at the pack? I was tired. Tired of everything, especially walking such a distance with so many bags to carry along even though it was just one and there was Knox who took everything up in his arms. When does it get

KNOXSage nodded. “I'm ready, Knox.”Taking back her hand in mine, I led her out of the chamber. Through the hallway, we went—with Brian who walked behind me all this while. My guard who never would let me down. It didn't take long to get down the stairs. So many thoughts ran around in my head but I let it be because, at the end of the day, everything would play right. Either right or wrong. “Gather the wolves, Brian. You may leave now. I'm sure the angry wolves cannot do anything to me and the woman. But if they choose to be violent, then we shall have it.” There was no need to play nice any longer. Not when I could turn into a wolf and deal with them. Catching up with the compound of the main pack, I felt something—someone squeeze my hand. “Easy, my lady—” I looked at the woman. “I'm sorry, my lord. Forgive my actions.” Sage looked up at me and then at the wolves who looked so much in her direction while they gathered in front of me. “Where are all the wolves?” More wolves

Sage's PovI, Princess Sage of Moonclaw pack, sever all ties with the pack,” I declared sternly, facing all three of them. It was over. I wasn't going to take anymore of this from any of them again.I took off my crown and tossed it at Eleanor. “You can keep it.”Thirty minutes agoIt happened so fast. In a blink of an eye Eleanor threw herself down the staircase. What the fuck! I watched her body tumble down the stairs in a flurry of arms and legs. "AHHHHHHHH!" She screamed her way down, hitting the ground with a loud thud.In seconds, Regan and Alistair barged into the living room, and their gaze widened when they saw her on the floor.“Eleanor!” They yelled, rushing across the room hastily. “Are you okay?” Alistair helped her up while Regan fussed over her to check if she had gotten hurt anywhere.“What happened to you?” Regan asked her and I turned to leave. I barely took two steps when her next three words made me halt in my tracks.“She pushed me,” she replied.Wait, what?I sw

Sage's PovAlastair bursted into laughter. “You sever all ties with us?” He echoed with enough mockery in his voice to fill the room, “Is this some kind of joke, Sage?”“It's not!” I retorted, “I'd rather return to being a rogue than continue to live another day here being treated like an outsider or even worse an idiot!” Regan chuckled loudly, and I shot him a stern look, clenching my fist, “You'd rather return to being a rogue? You didn't just say that, did you?” He reiterated mockingly, “Your weak wolf wouldn't survive a day out there if you leave.”I smirked, “Is that what you think? You forget, brother. I survived years of being a rogue on my own before I was found and brought back to this family. If I could survive it then, I sure as hell know that I can do it again,” I enunciated and turned, walking away.“They will kill you once they discover Silver,” Alastair said, bringing me to a full halt, and I turned to him. He was right. They would, but still, I prefer to take that cha

Sage's povMy heart literally dropped to the ground as my name echoed through the air. What?? Did I hear her wrong? Everyone's eyes steered in my direction, and from the look on their faces.I didn't hear her wrong. It felt like I'd been punched in the gut, my breath knocked out of me.My eyes locked onto Eleanor's smug face,“What if she takes my place or should I say her rightful place?” she glanced at me, and my stomach curled as the fear crept up my spine like a chill, making my skin crawl. This couldn't be happening. No. It shouldn't be happening. This was her fate not mine. I felt sick to my stomach but even more helpless.“Think about it, it would be the most sensible thing to do, seeing as she's your true daughter. That way we can still avoid the war, and I'm sure Princess Sage wouldn't mind sacrificing herself for her lovely family, after all, it's her role as Princess.”Bitch! Knox's PovA knock echoed through the study, and I shot my gaze to the door. “Come in.”The door creaked open and the clan's physician, Galen walked into the room. He bowed his head the second the door closed behind him, “Alpha Knox.”“Come. Take a seat,” I ushered, getting to my feet to pour us some wine. I handed him a glass, and took my seat across from him, helping myself to some wine.“So? How is my nephew?” I asked, dropping the glass on the table.“Well,” Galen dropped his glass on the table as well, “Prince Aegon's symptoms are becoming more and more severe. I've given him some herbs to control the symptoms, and make the pain subside but…” he trailed off, “There's only so much pain it can ease. You know that well.”I nodded, “I know, and that's precisely why he needs this marriage alliance.”“So it's true. You plan to have him wed to the princess of Moonclaw pack.”“Indeed, I do,” I got to my feet, and walked to the window, looking out, “It is the only solution. It will give h

KNOX My heart stopped as my gaze fell on her, descending the stairs and everything around me seemed to disappear until all I could see was her—all I could breathe. She didn't even look at me. I didn't think she wanted to. If anything I thought she looked bitter. Bitter and yet beautiful. The way my Wolf reacted to the presence of an ordinary, small woman, was uncalled for. I could hardly compose myself as I stood there, staring at her. I shut and opened my eyes. What was happening? “Mate—” from the inner part of me, the manly voice of my wolf muttered. I had never heard it sound this way. It was supposed to be a stubborn creature, domineering the other wolves whenever there was combat. Not this way. It sounded weak—like it had been conquered by something. Someone. Someone in the room. Someone who just walked into the room. Mate? Mate?! Did I hear mate? How was this even possible? Looking away, I looked around the room. The Alpha, his wife

Wrapping my hand around an answer was also an impossible thing to do, and for once, it dawned on me that the people I called ‘family’ hated me so much. How dare they?!Rage was an understatement of how I felt at this very moment. And for all that I knew, there was only one thing stopping me from running away from this pack and heading back to the Moonclaw Pack to carry out a well-deserved revenge on them. Especially Eleanor. That bitch. I would rip her heart out of her chest if I could. Why wouldn't I? She had finally become a thorn in my flesh and only one thing stopped me from dealing with her. It was the unavailability of my wolf. Something had happened to Silver. Something I had yet to dec

SAGEI didn't know what to feel like. Especially seeing Aegon who I should be avoiding. There was shock on the countenance of Knox who didn't expect Aegon of all the people in the Pack to say that. But what choice did the Alpha have? “I'll go with you if Knox doesn't.” “I didn't say I wouldn't go—” Knox mouthed. He looked away from me and met the gaze of Aegon who watched with thoughts that surely were running around his head. “Aegon, you don't have to do this. The members might come for you if they find out it's you who helped us.” “I got tired of living a long time ago—” Aegon looked at me and then his uncle. “We'll leave in a short while. For now, I need to get a few things ready because it might be a long journey and you don't want to know how long.”The sound of ‘long’ scared me more than anything. What was the man talking about? “I don't care how long it is—” I interrupted everyone's thoughts. “Myself and Knox will be here.” He nodded, faced the door, and came out of my

KNOXI relaxed on the bed, my eyes shut as I rested from everything that happened the day before. Suddenly, a hand hit me from behind. Or even in front of me. “Open your eyes, Knox. Can't you see?!” At the top of her voice, a woman shouted like never before. Forced to open my eyes, I looked around the space as I tried so hard to read the room so that I could understand what was happening. That was when the voices of wolves—angry wolves filled my ears. “Give Her To Us!” “Can you hear that?” An already crying Sage mouthed. Letting go of me, the woman reached the end of the room before turning back around to look at me—her eyes teary. “I don't know what I'm supposed to do—can't you see they want me given to them?” I still didn't understand because there was so much sleep in my eyes and I didn't know what to do and how to do it. Rather, I was on my feet and reaching the other end of the chamber so that I could pay attention to what was going on but how could I? More sleep filled my

SAGEWhat he was saying didn't make any sense, but I wanted to hear more of it. “What did you say, Knox? And how do you mean?” “Isn't it simple?” He adjusted on the couch but I wondered how I was supposed to know. “You being a Silver Wolf is a good thing for this pack. The members don't see it.” “You're confusing me. I don't understand you.” Again, the Alpha adjusted on the couch. A sigh ran out of his mouth and he let out. “I don't think we should talk about it yet, Sage. Give me some time to process my thoughts. Do you need something?” Why did he act that way? It was my turn to let out a sigh. Even though I wanted to hear the man talk to me about how a Silver Wolf could be of help to him and the Pack, I wished I could not listen to him say it. “Hello, Sage. Did you at least hear me?” I nodded and shook my head. “Forgive me, Alpha Knox. But I heard you. I'm just too overwhelmed by a lot to recall what you said a while ago. Can you remind me?” The man got up. He walked to

KNOXDays had passed. I didn't touch the life of Aella. She deserved to be punished but according to Sage, the one we have done to her was more than enough. I walked through the Pack's compound on this day. More than enough thoughts were running around in my head but one was what to do with the wolves who looked at me as though I had done something wrong to them. “Good morning, Alpha Knox.” “Good morning, all.” I waved at those who saw me and those who didn't. The strength to go about talking was something I didn't have and besides, no one needed to explain to me and let me know when I knew they were all mad at me—I caught up with the living room entrance. The moment I stepped in, all I could feel was relief. Far from the members and their deadly stare. No one said a word about it to me. Maybe they realized I still was the Alpha of The Darkfangs Pack and could have my say. Wasn't that it? “My lord—” the voice of Brian broke me from my thoughts. Looking up, there he was. “You s

SAGE Opening my eyes in the space of a chamber I could barely recognize, I looked around as I searched for someone. No one in particular. Where was I? “You're awake.” A familiar voice sounded in my ears. I then realized that my eyes were still shut, then I opened again with a smile that I managed. “Welcome back, Sage.” Who else if not Knox? “Good evening.” “Good evening?” He took a seat on the couch. I could now see his face clearly. Just about that time, he asked. “Did you think you woke up on the same day as yesterday, Sage?” Chuckling, Knox got on his feet. He walked to one of the windows and opened the curtain. “It's another day.” “Wait, what?” I cried. “Yes, Sage. Another day. Evening, in fact.” “No—” a soft moan ran out of my mouth. “This is very unbelievable. How did I sleep for so long and you did not wake me?” Standing up on my feet, I was reaching the door but the Alpha himself got up and reached that same door before I could. “What are you trying to do, Sage?”

KNOXAgain, I repeated. “Come with me, Sage.” But she was shaking her head and I didn't understand the concept behind that. Was she trying to refuse me?Definitely not. “No—” the word then ran out of her mouth. No what? What was she trying to say to me? Was she even talking to me? Was this her one way of refusing me? A sigh ran out of my mouth. Now, it was my turn to shake my head and I let out. “Can you listen to me, Sage? This is not a request. I'm ordering you to come back to the Pack with me. I'm not leaving here without you in case you don't know.” “No—” stubbornly, Sage shook her head. There was no frustration more than this. Wasn't it enough what we had gone through for the day? A sigh ran out of my mouth as I moped at the stubborn woman who looked like she was not scared of the wild. How could she be? “Sage. You cannot ignore me. You know this.” “I can't go back with you, Alpha Knox. You of all people should know this. You of all people should know why I cannot an
