NADIA'S POV

“Just drive,” I snapped at the old man, telling him to mind his business as I was in my car and not his. One of my other hands clenched into fists on my lap. My throat burned from holding back tears.

By the time we pulled up to my house, my fury hadn’t subsided. If anything, it had gotten worse. I threw a couple of bills at the driver without waiting for my change and stormed up the porch steps.

As I shoved the door open, I felt a sudden chill. The living room was eerily quiet, and my mother, Mrs. Morales, was seated stiffly on the couch. Her hands were folded, her phone resting on the table, but the tension in the room was unmistakable.

Before I could open my mouth to complain about my ruined night, her hand came out of nowhere. It was a SLAP! Wait a minutes, she just slapped me.

“MOM! What the hell was that for?!” I yelled, holding my burning cheek.

Her face was flushed with anger, and her hands trembled, not from regret, but from the fury she was struggling to contain.

NADIA'S POVBut as I stared at the floor, my jaw set with hatred towards Max, he was the cause of all this. If my mother thought she could send me away and fix everything, she was wrong. I wasn’t going to let this be the end.No matter what it took, I was going to find a way to stay.I stormed into my room, slamming the door behind me with more force than necessary.“Stupid, stupid, stupid!” I muttered, throwing my bag onto the bed. The problems of the day were crushing me, and I needed a release. Stamping my foot against the floor, I let out a frustrated groan.“Why does she always have to control my life?” I muttered to myself. My thoughts were racing, wild and untamed. “She can’t just send me away like I’m some rebellious teenager who doesn’t know right from wrong!”I paced the room, chewing on my thumbnail, my mind churning for answers. “I’m not going to let her win,” I said aloud, my voice firm. “I’ll find a way to convince her that I’m innocent.”Even as the words left my mouth,

NADIA'S POVMom’s expression didn’t soften. She raised an eyebrow, her posture stiff. “Nadia, what is this about?”I clasped my hands together, bowing my head. “I know I’ve messed up,” I said, my voice thick with desperation. “I know I’ve done things I shouldn’t have, but please… give me one more chance. I’ll change. I promise!”Her silence was unbearable. I risked a glance up at her, but her expression remained unreadable.“I’ll stay away from Richard and Tammie!” I blurted out, the words tumbling out in a rush. “I won’t cause any more trouble for them. I swear!”Mom let out a heavy sigh, but she still didn’t speak. Her lack of response only made my panic grow.“Mom, please,” I begged, tears streaming down my cheeks. “I’ll do whatever you want. I’ll be better. I just… I just need one last chance.”Her eyes narrowed slightly, and for a moment, I thought she might actually listen to me. But then her lips pressed into a thin line, and my heart sank.“I know I’ve disappointed you,” I sai

NADIA'S POVWithout wasting a second, I grabbed my phone and dialed Max’s number. My hands were slightly shaky, but I ignored it.It rang twice before he picked up.“What is it?” Max’s voice was sharp and impatient.“Keep your voice down!” I whispered, sitting on the edge of my bed. “I overheard something earlier, and it’s important.”“What did you hear?” Max demanded.“My mom was talking to Mrs. Johnson,” I began, lowering my voice even more. “She mentioned Richard and Tammie’s wedding. It’s going to happen soon.”Max paused for a moment. “Did she say when? Has the date been fixed?”“I… I’m not sure,” I admitted. “She didn’t mention a specific date. Just that it’s happening soon.”There was another pause on his end, and I could almost feel his frustration through the phone.“Figure it out,” he snapped. “I don’t care how you do it, Nadia, but you need to find out the details and make sure this wedding doesn’t happen. That’s an order.”An order? My blood boiled at his tone.“Max, I…”B

"That Was Close"“Sir, excuse me!The deep voice startled me, echoing through the dark hallway. I stopped dead in my tracks, my breath hitching. Slowly, I turned around and saw the Chief Security Officer of the company standing a few feet away. His torchlight pointed at the floor where my wallet lay, the brown leather gleaming faintly. My heart thumped painfully in my chest. This wasn’t good. Not good at all.Is that your wallet that just fell off?”“Oh! Yes,” I said, forcing a laugh and stepping toward him. “That’s mine. I didn’t even realize it fell.”The officer crouched down, as he picked up the wallet, and straightened, his torchlight shifting to my face. The beam made me squint, but I held still, forcing my body not to fidget. He was watching me closely now, his eyes narrowing as if trying to read me.“Long night, huh?” he asked, his tone casual but probing.“Yeah, long night,” I replied, nodding too quickly. “You know how it is. Tammie POV“It’s been decided, Tammie,” my mother, Mrs. Daniella Johnson, said firmly as she leaned back in her seat, her manicured fingers clasped together. Her voice carried the no-nonsense tone I had grown up with, one that brooked no arguments.I blinked at her, stunned. “What’s been decided, Mother?”“Your wedding,” she replied, meeting my gaze with her sharp blue eyes. “It’s going to be a small, intimate affair. A parlor wedding, to be precise. No grand event, no massive guest list. Just a select few of the most reputable elites.”I sat up straighter, my heart sinking. “A parlor wedding? But why? We’ve been planning this for months! People are expecting…''I tried convincing my mom because I also needed the media to see me once again and so that Max would regret how he had mistreated and maltreated her.“People can expect all they want,” she interrupted, waving her hand dismissively. “What matters is your father’s safety.”“Father’s safety?” I asked, frowning. “What does this ha

MAX POV"Are you ready yet, Max?" Nadia's voice crackled through my phone speaker, breaking the silence of the early morning. She had called to remind me that I should get ready for our next mission. We were supposed to meet later at night.I groaned, glancing at the clock on my bedside table. 5:15 a.m. I had woken up half an hour earlier to prepare myself for the day.My plan required precision, and I wasn’t going to let Nadia’s constant pestering throw me off."Yes, Nadia," I muttered, barely able to suppress the irritation in my tone. "I’ve been up for a while now.""Good," she said, sounding smug. "You know this has to go perfectly. No mistakes, Max."I rolled my eyes. Nadia had always been a control freak, but I couldn’t deny that her meticulous nature was what made her such a good partner in all of this. "I know, Nadia. Is your plan ready?""Of course it is," she replied, her voice confident. "You just stick to your part, and we’ll get through this without a hitch.""Fine," I sa

MAX POV."Alright," the police officer finally said, breaking the tense silence. "You can go in, but make it quick."I let out a breath I didn’t realize I had been holding. "Thank you, officer," I said, trying to mask the overwhelming relief surging through me. Inside, I was elated. This was it. My plan was still on track. The officer stepped aside, and I walked through the door. As I entered Mr. Kenneth's hospital room, a wave of unease settled over me.The air felt heavy, and the faint beeping of the heart monitor added to the tension. There he was, lying on the hospital bed, his eyes closed. His face looked gaunt and pale, the vibrant man I once knew now reduced to a shadow of himself.I stood there for a moment, unsure of how to proceed. He’s just sleeping, I thought to myself, though his stillness made me second-guess.His chest rose and fell steadily, but there was no other movement. It was hard to see him like this, but I had no time for sentimentality. How am I supposed to mak

NADIA'S POVThe children's park was lively, filled with the cheerful screams of kids on swings and the occasional bark of a dog chasing after a ball.I wasn’t here to enjoy the sunshine or the vibrant energy around me. My mission was clear, and I had no time to waste.Walking toward the seats near the fountain, I spotted Alisha waiting, sunglasses perched on her head and her posture as casual as ever.As I approached, her gaze turned toward me, and a knowing smirk crept across her face."Well, well," Alisha said as I took a seat beside her. "Nadia Slate, in a park of all places. What’s the mission this time around?"I pulled a photo from my bag, sliding it across the table between us. The wind tugged at the edges of the picture before it settled face-up."Take a look," I said simply, leaning back in my chair.Alisha picked up the photo, her eyes narrowing as she studied the man captured in it. Her expression shifted in an instant…her jaw dropped, and she let out a sharp gasp."Is this

TAMMIE POV.A few more final touches were added…silver earrings, a matching diamond necklace, and a delicate bangle, all glimmering under the light. They were real diamonds, of course. Nothing less would do for the grand wedding of Richard Garrison. The moment everything was in place, the door opened, and my mother, Mrs. Daniella, walked in.I turned to face her, and for a brief second, something flickered in my heart. She looked at me with so much love, her eyes soft with emotion.“Oh, my baby,” she whispered, her voice trembling.“You look…breathtaking.”I smiled, and for the first time today, it wasn’t completely fake. She walked up to me, holding the delicate veil in her hands.“It has always been my wish to place this on you myself,” she said, her voice warm with motherly affection. She gently placed the veil over my styled hair, adjusting it carefully, making sure it sat perfectly. My heart clenched at the way she looked at me, as if this was the most beautiful moment of her lif

Something wasn’t sitting right with me.As I stared at my phone, tapping my fingers against the desk in irritation, I couldn’t shake the nagging feeling creeping into my mind. Why do I feel like Alisha isn’t telling me the truth?I had worked with her for years…long enough to know when she was holding something back. And lately, something was off. She wasn’t as forthcoming as she used to be.Where were the detailed updates? The little pieces of information she used to feed me without hesitation? Is she hiding something from me?I exhaled sharply and shook my head. No. Alisha wouldn’t dare. She had always followed my instructions, always obeyed without question. It wasn’t like her to go against me.But still…These past few days, she’s been different.I had noticed the slight hesitations in her voice, the way she chose her words carefully. It wasn’t obvious, but I knew her too well. She wasn’t as eager to update me about Richard’s every move anymore.I leaned back in my chair, folding

And once Tammie was gone, Mrs. Garrison would have no power to stop what was meant to happen. Before I could revel in my plans any longer, a sudden vibration against my waist made me freeze. My heart jumped, and for a split second, I panicked. I quickly glanced around, making sure no one was near before slipping my hand into the folds of my dress. My phone.I pulled it out, keeping the screen facing me so no one would see.Nadia.Of course, it was her. Who else would be calling me at a time like this?I stared at the phone for a moment, my teeth pressing into my bottom lip. What does she want now?I knew better than to ignore her calls, but a part of me was growing tired of being at her beck and call. I wasn’t some puppet she could control forever.Taking a deep breath, I made sure my voice was calm before pressing the answer button."Hello," I said, keeping my tone neutral. And just like that, my mind shifted gears. The game is still on, and I'm not going to lose.Nadia’s voice came

“This girl… Alisha," she said, deliberately referring to her as a ‘girl’ rather than a lady. "Will she still be staying in your house after today? After you get married to Tammie?"I ran a hand through my hair, exhaling deeply. Ishould have known this was coming. "Mom, Alisha isn’t a bad person," I said, trying to sound patient."She’s only here because of the accident. I was the one who got her involved in it, and now she’s lost her memory. The least I can do is make sure she recovers properly."My mother scoffed, shaking her head."Richard, you’re too soft-hearted sometimes. How do you think Tammie will feel about this? You’re bringing your wife to your home…no, to your matrimonial home…only for her to find another woman living there? A woman covered in bandages, no less!"I frowned."Tammie knows about Alisha. She won’t have a problem with it. She understands the situation.""Are you sure about that?" she pressed. "Because, Richard, I wouldn’t be happy if I were in her shoes. A wo

RICHARD’S POVThe morning of my wedding had arrived, and my mansion was already busy with activity. From the moment I opened my eyes, I could hear the distant chatter of staff moving around, finalizing last-minute preparations. The weight of the day sat heavily on my chest, not out of nervousness but from the sheer reality of it all. Today, I will become a married man.As I sat on the edge of my bed, staring at the crisp white dress shirt laid out for me, the sound of approaching footsteps pulled me from my thoughts.I looked up just as my mother, Mrs. Garrison, walked into the room. She was dressed in an elegant blue gown, her hair styled to perfection, and her face glowed with a mixture of pride and excitement."My handsome son," she said, smiling warmly as she walked toward me. "Today is finally here."She didn’t wait for an invitation before she began adjusting my collar, fussing over me like she always did. I chuckled, allowing her to do as she pleased. It was a small thing, but

NADIA POVYes, thing. That’s all she was to me…a nuisance, an obstacle, an ugly little thing standing in the way of what was rightfully mine.Richard was supposed to be mine. He was always supposed to be mine. Tammie had no right to him, no right to the life she was trying to claim.I stopped pacing and stared out of the window, the city lights twinkling in the distance. But their beauty did nothing to soothe me. Instead, they reminded me of the glittering facade Tammie presented to the world…a facade I intended to shatter."I’ll stop the wedding," I said, my voice barely above a whisper but filled with conviction. "I’ll stop it, and I’ll make sure she’s gone for good."My mind raced with possibilities, each one darker than the last. Kidnapping her was the most obvious solution.Take her away, hide her where no one could find her. But that wasn’t enough. Simply removing her from the picture wouldn’t satisfy the anger burning inside me."No," I said, shaking my head. "She needs to be d

NADIA'S POV.I smirked, setting the phone back down. Everything was moving like clockwork. Now, it was just a matter of waiting for the right moment to strike.I sat back down on the bed, crossing my legs as I allowed myself a moment of satisfaction. Alisha would do her part, whether willingly or not.And if she thought she could outsmart me, well, she’d soon find out just how wrong she was.For now, I had to keep playing the part of the calm, collected puppet master. But inside, the fire of ambition burned hotter than ever. This wasn’t just a plan…it was a masterpiece, and I was the artist. As I leaned back against the pillows, my mind wandered to the moment when everything would come together. The look of shock, of betrayal, of defeat…it would all be worth it.With a final glance at my phone, I closed my eyes, letting a sinister smile linger on my lips. "Eighteen hours," I whispered to myself. "And then it all begins."As I sat in the quiet of my room, my mind betrayed me, wandering

"What could you possibly be doing that’s more important than keeping me updated?"I clenched my jaw, taking a deep breath before responding. "I was in the middle of dinner with Richard. I couldn’t exactly answer your call in front of him, could I?"Nadia’s tone softened slightly, but her impatience was still evident. "Fine. But you need to tell me what’s going on. Have you heard anything new about the wedding?"I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. "No, Nadia. I haven’t heard anything else. And even if I had, do you really think I’d tell you in the middle of dinner?"There was a pause on the other end of the line, and I could almost hear her frustration. "You need to stay on top of this, Alisha," she said finally. "We can’t afford any mistakes.""I know," I replied, my voice clipped. "You don’t have to remin

ALISHA'S POV.I hesitated again, lowering my gaze as though I was embarrassed. "I was just wondering..." I trailed off, biting my lip for effect."Wondering what?" he prompted, his voice patient."If I could come," I said in a rush, my words tumbling over each other."To the wedding, I mean. I promise I won't cause any trouble or anything.I just thought…well, I’d really like to be there. But if you don’t want me to, I understand, and I won’t bring it up again."Richard stared at me for a moment, his expression unreadable. My heart pounded in my chest, though not from fear or nerves. This was the critical moment, the point where I’d see if he’d bend to my request. Finally, he sighed, leaning back in his chair. "Alisha," he said slowly, "why would you even want to come? It’s not exactly a public event."I smiled again, this time letting it tremble slightly. "I don’t know," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper.
