CHAPTER 3: ALPHA TRISTAN

Tristan

I managed to escape the attack. The other wolf waylaid me and bit hard into my spine and my shoulder, unfortunately the bite didn't seem like it was healing. I struggled into my pack, it was late at night. Everyone must have been asleep.

“Kudos to you for always refusing enforcers to go with you on your hunting spree,” I praised myself.

I fell by a door and knocked hard. I needed whoever was in there to inform them at the palace. Raven needs to get here and heal me as soon as possible.

The poison was spreading so quickly and my body was shutting down. My wolf—Magnus—was dead silent at the moment and I knew that I needed urgent help. Immediately the door opened, I helped myself in.

“You need to get my beta and the witch quickly,” I said but instead, she just watched me as I was dying in horror. I tried to speak but my eyes were shut and my mouth was paralyzed, only my nose worked.

If I die, I am coming back to hunt this person, I thought to myself.

The next thing she did surprised me. My hearing was becoming faint too. She dashed inside and came back with a bowl of water and a rag. She cleaned the wound, and did something I didn't believe.

I felt it as something trickled out on my body, she let it drop on my wounds and almost instantly I started to shake, that couldn't be water. The poison was trying to find a way out of my body, I couldn't scream even if I wanted to but the pain was nothing to be compared to.

After a while, I relaxed and I started feeling the wound close up.

“Relax, go to sleep. It's alright now and there's no more harm coming your way,” she said, her words working me to slumber. I knew everyone in my pack and I was so sure that she wasn't one; only one thing registered itself in my head—her scent. It was distinct, like I've never smelt before.

I sprang up from the floor where I laid last night, I was still in my birthday suit and of course, she saw that. I grabbed a piece of clothing and wrapped my waist around it, thinking about the scene from last night. Who was she? Why did she help me? How did she do what she did?

I looked around the house and found it empty of her and it also turned out to be the abandoned house in the pack.

“Great,” I flung my hands by my side. She had fled, so that confirms my suspicions that she wasn't a member of my pack. I found my way outside and every enforcer was behind me.

“We've been expecting you, my Alpha,” my beta—Darius—said. “Welcome back.”

“Thank you Darius.” I sighted Beta Thorin and some of the Blackshade enforcers waiting for me. “What's going on?”

Knowing what I referred to, he answered immediately. “They come bearing an important and devastating news. They request that it's you they talk to first.”

“Tell them I'll be with them shortly, I need to clean up,” I said, disappearing into my chambers.

Minutes later, I freshened up and joined them. Wearing a loose t-shirt and baggy jeans, I welcomed them in.

“Alpha Tristan,” they bowed their heads as a sign of respect.

“Welcome beta, how can I help you today?”

“We bring the news of our Alpha. Alpha Damien passed away yesterday and currently his murderer is on the run. We prepared for a court trial but she escaped before it happened.”

At first, it felt like I wasn't listening well. I repeated what he said. “She? You mean a woman got to Damien?”

“Yes my lord,” he answered. “She got to him.”

“And who is this lady we speak of?”

“Her name is Lyra, she's an omega mated to our Alpha. She was the last person with him before his death.”

“That's a notorious crime and a sad news at that,” I said, walking about. “I remembered warning Damien that not everything that moves in a gown should be chased. It's unfortunate but as the head of the 3 Alphas, I'll be sure to avenge my friend's death.”

“Thank you my lord,” they bowed, walking away.

Her smell was still fresh in my head. She smelt of freshly cut lavender flowers, with a hint of subtleness evoking from her. Her touch was gentle, so was her voice. Soothing and healing.

I needed to find her but wasn't it going to be weird, trying to find a woman with just a smell. I stood in front of the mirror, inspecting the wound from last night. A big black wolf, twice my size, jumped out of nowhere and attacked me. It was a miracle that I got home in one piece.

“It's a surprise you made it home,” an old, scratchy voice said. Only one person could run their mouth at me.

“Raven,” I gritted under my teeth, forcing a smile out. “How lovely it is to see you. I had no idea you were rooting for my death.”

“I told you not to leave yesterday, did I not?” She forced me to sit and pulled down my clothes. “Hmmmmm, interesting.”

She only does that when she sees something unbelievable. “What is it? What do you see?”

“I see you dying and also I see a girl, a very powerful healer, more powerful than I am,” she said. “If you had come here yesterday, be sure to know that you would already be a corpse. She is something else, something I don't know yet.”

Surprised by what she was saying. “Are you trying to pull my legs Raven? Let's be serious please.”

“Who said I'm joking? You need to bring her here, you need her with you at all times.”

I scoffed. “I don't even know what she looks like. How the hell am I supposed to bring her here?”

She threw her hands in the air, walking out. “That's for you to figure out, I'm out of here.”

“Crazy old bitch,” I muttered, falling on my back. “How would I find a complete stranger in the entire pack? She must have even fled the Night Howlers pack.”

But now wasn't the time to dillydally, now was the time to weigh out options and find her.
