Lyra
As I laid in the cage centered in the pack's square, thinking about what direction my life would take now, I heard the shuffling of feets coming closer. The news must have gone round for everyone to be heading towards my direction.
“There she is, murderer,” someone shouted. Before I could understand what was happening, a rain of stones started to fall on me. I protected my fragile body against the venomous crowd seeking my head in return.
It took the intervention of the enforcers to shift before everyone scampered away. They were always big black wolves, enough to allow fear ripple through one's body. I breathed a sigh of relief and inspected the areas where I had been hurt badly. Watching it heal on its own was a secret I never told anyone.
Midnight came sooner than I quickly expected and I just laid there, snoring away quietly. I felt a hand tap me multiple times.
“Shhhh Lyra, it's me, Mia,” she whispered and I was most grateful for seeing my friend again.
“What are you doing here Mia? If you are caught, the enforcers would have your head,” I whispered back.
“Don't worry, I'll be fine,” she assured, smooching my beautiful skin under the moonlight. “What have they decided?”
My face went sullen, remembering the judgment passed by Beta Thorin. “I'll be facing a court trial tomorrow.”
She gasped loudly, gaining the attention of one of the enforcers stationed close to me. She hid behind a block, till he was done searching.
“That's bad Lyra. Alpha Damien is small compared to the other 2 Alphas,” she said.
“I know but right now, there's nothing I can do. I just hope they believe me tomorrow.”
“Well, that isn't an option. We need to find a way to get you out of here. It's almost dawn.”
I looked at her with suspicion. “What do you think you are doing Mia?”
“Breaking you out bitch,” she said, removing her hair pin and sticking it into the padlock. We both had pretty hands and how to use it efficiently.
I scanned the area from inside the cage, keeping watch for her. After what seemed like a while, I heard a tick and her face showed a glamor.
“You need to get out of here, you can't afford to be at a court trial. Your destiny will be written that way.”
I gently removed the padlock and opened the cage, making sure it wasn't causing a squeak. I ran into my best friend's arms immediately.
“Thank you so much Mia, I'll miss you so much and thank you for believing me.”
She wrapped herself in my embrace. “It's fine, I'll miss you too. Just make sure you don't get caught. Run away as fast as you can, to somewhere untraceable. And if you had killed that bastard, I'd be so glad that it had to be you.”
She shoved something in my mouth. “I stole it from the witch's lair. She told her client that it helped reduce one's scent. And since they'd be coming after you, that should help. It should last for just a few hours so you should hurry.”
She scurried away and I did the same, running towards the direction of the border. Bless the moon goddess, no enforcers were there at that moment. Running blindly into the forest, I heard the blow of the horn. My disappearance had been discovered.
“Fuck,” I kept cursing, still running. Not long I heard thick feet and rugged running behind me. My scent was a faint one, they weren't picking it up easily.
Seeing that I was about to be corned, I took a different turn without looking at where I went. I just wanted to get away from this life.
I found a pile of rock and hid beside it, bless the moon goddess for making me so small.
“Her scent is so faint, we can't make out where she is,” one of them said.
“Jagger and Eliza are going to be pissed once they find out that she's gone. We need to find her before they do,” the other one said. “Let's move out.”
As soon as I noticed that they had gone, I crept out and continued my journey. My feet begged to rest and my throat, long aching for water. My tummy, rumbling, letting me know how badly it needed food but I ignored them all. I needed to get far away from Blackshade.
The sky was beginning to get covered in darkness, just a decent place to lay my head in. I was at a risk of coming into contact with rogues, and going by the stories I've heard, they weren't nice ones. Like the moon goddess saw my intention and gave me hope, I came across a light in the far distance. Dragging my tired leg towards the direction, it turned out to be the most beautiful place I have ever been in. The borders were rid of enforcers, and that alone made me frightened. A fountain stood at the entrance of the town, more like it was used to welcome visitors.
“Bless the moon goddess,” I rushed to scoop some into my mouth and also clean my face. A soothing relief washed through my body. Each house in the pack had lights on, with everyone in their respective homes. Instantly I started wishing I lived here as it spelt nothing short of home.
I surveyed my environment, hoping I'd find a place to pass the night. That's when I saw it.
A house without no light in it, the roof was starting to fall to the side and the grass around the house grew more than the rest. The paint on the house had already faded and everything around it screamed deserted.
“That's my place for the night, it's abandoned.”
I carefully walked towards it and opened it, it made a creaking sound but it wasn't enough to scare me.
“I've seen worse,” I consoled myself. “Just before dawn, I'd get out of here as soon as possible. I just need a place to pass the night.”
Barely 5 hours into my sleep, I heard a knock on the door. Scared on who it might be, I decided not to answer. On hearing the kind of sound the person made, I jumped out. He was in pain and who knew? He became my nightmare as well. That door should have remained locked.
TristanI managed to escape the attack. The other wolf waylaid me and bit hard into my spine and my shoulder, unfortunately the bite didn't seem like it was healing. I struggled into my pack, it was late at night. Everyone must have been asleep.“Kudos to you for always refusing enforcers to go with you on your hunting spree,” I praised myself.I fell by a door and knocked hard. I needed whoever was in there to inform them at the palace. Raven needs to get here and heal me as soon as possible. The poison was spreading so quickly and my body was shutting down. My wolf—Magnus—was dead silent at the moment and I knew that I needed urgent help. Immediately the door opened, I helped myself in.“You need to get my beta and the witch quickly,” I said but instead, she just watched me as I was dying in horror. I tried to speak but my eyes were shut and my mouth was paralyzed, only my nose worked. If I die, I am coming back to hunt this person, I thought to myself. The next thing she did surpr
Tristan Things had been going smoothly in the past few days with no bothering news to come, except Raven of course, still sitting on my neck to find the mysterious girl. I sparred with Darius in the war room, with each of his strikes getting better and better. The incident from the night before wouldn't leave memory, a big black wolf twice my size, who could it be? The next in line walked in on us, a delta—Rhys. “My lord, Beta Darius,” he bowed. “I am here to inform you that your attention has been sought at the court. The omega who killed her alpha has been apprehended.”“Awesome,” I gave a fake move and distracted Darius, making me win the sparring. I laughed. “I'm your boss, you need to acknowledge that.”“You cheated.”“Now now, stop whining like a little child,” I said. “Come on, we need to get to the court.”Darius was my best friend, we grew up as brothers right from childhood. He came from a long line of devoted Beta, so it was his rightful position. Just like my family. He
LyraImmediately the court trial was over and each other packs kept voicing out angrily, I knew nothing good awaited the next life I had chosen. My hand was bound together and I was tied to the cart of Alpha Tristan. I was to walk the entire journey, from the courthouse to his pack.As I was being led away, Eliza's eyes held an unspeakable amount of hate towards me. It terrified me and made me think about my choices too. Beta Thorin was not exempted, his was more like he loathed my very existence before I was born. Eliza's anger was justified, her father was killed and no child will take it lightly. At that point, I knew that Alpha Tristan wasn't the only one who made more enemies that day; I did too.The cart started moving at a steady pace and at first I could keep up. But suddenly, the horses started going faster and no matter how much I bellowed, begging for my life, no one listened to me. My misery is their amusement, I better get used to that.As I fell, trying to get back on th
LyraAs each whip landed on my cold skin, I prayed that each would be the last but I was far from the truth. The shivers made it worse and I could barely bellow anymore. All my strength had been used up to shout and I just laid there, waiting for death to take me away.“Are you seeing this?” One of the enforcers knelt down close to me, looking at my skin. I already knew what was marveling at him. With each wound that the whips created, they were sealing themselves back up.“See what? You don't want Alpha Tristan to walk in here and see you hovering over her without doing what he asked.”“I'm trying to show you something,” he said. “Okay, take a look at this.”With a powerful force, I felt the whip land on my back. There was no way I wasn't going to scream for that. My scream reverberated over the walls of the room, bouncing into each other and creating an echo.“Wow,” the other enforcer said. He just came out of his slumber. “What do you think she is? This is the first time I'm seeing
TristanI stood at a distance in the dark, waiting to see her next line of action. It was so easy to tell that she had been starving, and I just delivered her beautifully cooked food, only for me to drop it in the sand again. She started dusting the sand away from its body and tried salvaging the ones she could.“That was too easy,” I muttered, coloring myself fully with the colors of the night. “I will make sure to frustrate you, if not ask for your life.”I stepped back into my chambers, jumping into Darius along the way. He eyed me before saying anything.“Where are you coming from?”“To pay my lovely guest a visit,” I shrugged. He suddenly lowered his voice. “Are you crazy Tristan? That girl is accused of murder and yet you allow her into the pack because she's your mate.”I threw a piece of chicken into my mouth. “You are correct.”“And if I know you well, you do not intend to treat her with love. So why did you let her here?”I thought about it for some time, lowering my face in
Lyra “Wake up,” I woke up to the jabbing of the enforcers. The hilt of his sword was on my forehead. I rubbed my eyes and jumped up straight. “Take your bath quickly and put on your uniform, we'd be waiting for you out there. Do not delay us.”I did as I was told and rushed out in less than a minute. There was no reason to take so much time in the bathroom though; it had no soap or sponge and instead I just let the water flow through every part of my body.“I'm done,” I said to them. Their backs were turned against me and I heard them murmur the word murderer.Funnily enough, it was something that I was becoming used to. No matter how much it still pricked my poor soul, I was starting to ignore it.We entered the main chambers through the back door. Vivianne was there, standing in front of the maids, as if taking a roll call. As I assumed my position, everyone steered clear of me like I had a plague. Life was also like that for me in the Blackshade pack.“It's alright. You have nothi
LyraIt was late until evening before I was able to finish the entire chores. My tummy protested badly but I managed to keep the hunger at bay. I had acquired too many enemies and I just needed to behave myself. Maybe, just maybe, if I caution myself and prove my innocence, they might just let me be even if they won't let me live a healthy life.I found my way to the quarters where the maids are and met most of them finished with their foods. All they did was sit down and chat away. Seeing that no one paid attention to me, I took a plate quietly and started to approach the section where the food was placed. Vivianne and one other maid stood at the other side of the section.“Hi Vivianne,” I forced a smile out and held my tummy in place. “Can I please have something to eat?”Her face held the same blank look it had. She only swayed her head back and forth, signifying a no. I was almost going crazy, crazy that if I didn't, I might die in my sleep.“Please Vivianne, I'm really hungry. I
TristanThe air coming through the open window was as refreshing as a cold bath. It eased my body and sent me chills at the same time. The door squeaked open and instantly my senses told me who it was without turning back.“Finally decided to heed my calls?”“I'm surprised what you need me for since you wouldn't listen to me,” she said. “Why am I here?”I turned around and wore a bright smile. “Come on Raven, don't let this intruder spoil the beautiful thing we have. We are like best friends, let's go back to that time.”Her expression was blank. I knew Raven to be someone who ran her mouth always and could talk to anyone that she wanted anyhow. But seeing her take a total stranger's side was annoying and that alone makes me want to punish her more.“Are you finished? Is that what you called me here for? Can I go back to my business?”I sighed, seeing that she wasn't ready to succumb to my words.“What do you want me to do Raven? Just let her into the pack with open arms and a smiling
ElizaLocation: The Blackshade PackI waited patiently behind doors for the news I sought, it was the only way I could verify the news that had been flying around. The door suddenly opened, causing my heart to miss a beat.“Don't do that next time Jagger, you made me worry,” I scolded him immediately he found his way into my chambers.“I'm sorry my lady,” he bowed, still not saying anything.Impatiently, I went closer to him, speaking in hushed voices. Like they said, the walls have ears and he was the only one I trusted. “What did you find out?”His sigh made me legs weaken and caused the beating of my heart go faster. Jagger wasn't one to give in to fear or any type of emotion that dealt with uncertainties.“I'm afraid my lady, the rumors are true. Beta Thorin has been hurrying the elders up to proclaim him the new Alpha. He also emphasized on the fact that Blackshade pack was one that had never had a female Alpha and it shouldn't start now. Since he was the next one after the late
ElijahSitting on that chair and watching Astra doing whatever she knew how to do best was becoming tiring and boring. She knew how to keep me waiting for a long time and by now I should be used to it but instead it only pissed me off more. I had to keep my cool, she was someone who could annihilate me with just a snap of her finger. She finally concluded her task, batting her eyelids in my direction. Her long dark hair flowed freely, covering a portion of her eyes from both sides. Her voice infiltrated my thoughts like an old man's own. “How can I help you Elijah?”“That lady is now in Tristan's pack,” I blurted out without thinking twice, hoping it would take her by surprise. But instead, she just sat there looking at me with no difference in her eyes.In the most calm and unexpected tone of voice, she replied. “I know.”Her response and attitude riled me up. I maintained my cool and said, my voice going higher than normal. “You knew? Since when?”“Since the day she healed him,” she
DariusFrom the spot I stood, I watched as he talked to himself and how he proceeded to lay on the bare floor. No matter how much I talked to him about letting that lady go, he wouldn't listen. He was probably having a change of heart, might be because of Raven. She had a lot of talking and convincing to do.I excused myself and snuck out of the pack, making sure the enforcers on patrol didn't catch a whiff of it. I made my way deep into the forest, where the rogues made their home a secret.“Who is there?” The rogue enforcer smelt so badly, I could smell him from a mile away. “Better watch your mouth before I shut it for you,” I shut him up. He knew exactly who was there, my smell would have given me away yet he had the guts to ask me a stupid question.“My apologies Beta Darius,” he bowed. “The boss is inside.”I made my way into the inner room, helping myself to something that can cover my nose. A foul smell filled the air and I wondered how they managed to live there.“Darius,” m
Tristan The darkness had become my companion, I saw less of Darius everyday and I couldn't fault him for that. The pack was stable for now, everyone lived peacefully, so there was no need for him to jump on my neck. I sat in the dark near the cabin I assigned her, with a plate of food specifically asked to be prepared for her.“It's no use sitting around here,” her voice startled me, allowing me to drop the plate of food I held. “Have I done something wrong this time around?”I came out of the shadows, with nothing in my head to say. “Hi,” I gave my signature smile.Standing at akimbo, she pouted her lips and the swollen side shot out. She looked like she had placed an egg in that spot. I almost laughed but I held myself in order.“I-I-I uhmmm, I brought dinner but,” I turned around to look at the mess I had created. “But it's wasted now, sorry.”She turned around and saw what I had meant. “Thank you but if you will excuse me, I'll like to go to bed.”Mentioning bed, I remembered whe
TristanA nudging annoying pain on my shoulder and spine wouldn't let me be. It was something that started over the days and I've tried to figure out what was happening. But no matter what I did, it was still there. Reluctantly I found my way to Raven's chamber and helped myself to the bed.“What is it? How can I help you?” Her voice gave off an unwelcoming tone and I knew where the attitude was coming from.“Now is not the time for all this Raven. Can you help me take a look at my spine and shoulder? It hurts badly.”She took her time before adjusting to my level. I monitored her facial expressions, she had a sour one on.“Tell me it's nothing serious,” I begged. Now was not the time to be weak. The pack needs me, everyone needs me.“It is something serious. This healed wound is caused by who?”I started to recall. It was the night a big black wolf attacked me from nowhere in the forest when I went on my last hunting spree.“What exactly are you asking? Who healed the wound or who ca
Raven The news of what happened had spread around the pack members with everyone having a different version of what actually happened. Immediately the 2 enforcers rushed her in, I knew that Tristan had done something to her and I requested they tell me all that happened. Given that they were present at the scene, they gave me a correct load down.He had ordered me not to interfere in whatever he does to her. Staying quiet in all of these would be catastrophic and the future of the pack will be doomed.I reclined to her level and wiped her hair back, mopping her face with a rag. I noticed her mouth was full of unhealed bruises and her shoulder dislocated. It was a new one because one of the things that marveled Tristan about her was her healing powers even though she hadn't shifted yet.I mixed a concoction and helped pour it in her mouth, it should help her with the bruises. As she snored away quietly, my mind raced to the information given to me by the enforcers. Maybe it was high t
TristanMy mind was in chaos, it sickened me and made matters worse. All I wanted her to do was grovel and toil for my forgiveness yet she stared at me with the same intensity of hate; if not more. And when she started speaking like she had been possessed from hell, my heart raced a thousand times per minute. It was the first time I'll ever be scared of anything, rather anyone. I wasn't one to believe in things like this but it still shook me to my core. The door opened without the occupant knocking.“What happened Tristan? Are you fine? I heard what happened between you and your mate.”I knew he said that on purpose so I did the next reasonable thing in my head, considering that all I could think of at that moment was anger. I punched him harder than he could expect. He was sent flying across the room, landing in my belongings.“Don't ever talk to me that way,” I warned. Darius was my best friend, I would never hurt him on purpose but I guess today just held a lot of resentment towar
Lyra Standing in the middle of the field where enforcers train felt like a nightmare come true. He said he was going to punish me and all I thought was going to be chores related. I looked through the space provided for the eyes of the helmet of the armour and saw him sitting there. Anger graced his face and all his bodily features. He barely smiled or made fun of me ever since our encounter at Raven's abode. Like he loathed me more or maybe he had more pending issues that filled his mind.A loud gong rented the air, signifying the beginning of the sparring. We were paired in 2, and each one of us had a partner. My partner was a hefty man and I believed he must be having a very good laugh under his own armour. A single rule was passed—don’t lose or else the losers always faced the most inexplicable punishments. I mentally gave up in my head; there was no way I was winning this.“Don't think I'm going to go easy on you young lady,” he mocked. “I'll take my time dealing with you witch.
LyraThe pain was deeply embedded in the root of my brain, like I was reliving the moment. I didn't know where I was but the last memory stuck in my head was long dirty fangs and nails sinking into my body, mutilating my skin. Their roars registered itself in my head and I saw them coming towards me again, all I could think of and do was run. As they neared me, I screamed out, falling to wherever I was.“It's alright child, you are safe now,” a familiar voice said. As I looked around the unfamiliar environment, swearing and panting, I saw different pots and various items that looked strange to me. “You are safe now Lyra,” the voice said again and I turned around. It was Raven; the witch.I steadied my breath and relaxed back. With every spot my body touched, it did nothing but to remind me of the pain nesting there.“How did I get here?” I managed to ask in one breath.“Tristan found you, he brought you back to the pack.”At the mention of Alpha Tristan, I remembered what took me out
