Chapter 83

*BRIANNE’S POV*

Before Mary could respond, my name was called. My heart felt like it stopped for a moment. This was it. My big moment. But it felt hollow.

I stood up, the weight of my gown heavier than it should’ve been, and made my way to the stage. The applause was deafening, but all I could hear was the deafening silence in my heart. As I took my diploma, I couldn’t help but glance back into the crowd one more time. No Jordyn.

I forced a smile, waved to the audience as expected, and walked off the stage. But inside, I felt like a part of me was missing.

After the ceremony, the crowd was buzzing. Friends and family were hugging, congratulating one another, and taking pictures. I stood off to the side, feeling out of place despite being in the center of it all. Mary had gone to meet up with her family, leaving me with my thoughts.

Then, out of nowhere, Marcus appeared. He smiled, holding out a bouquet of flowers.

“Congratulations,” He said, his voice warm and familiar.
