last update Last Updated: 2025-01-10 10:16:39

The fortress's stone walls were bathed in a silvery glow as the moon hung low in the sky. Tension permeated the air, a subdued uneasiness that appeared to beat through the hallways like a heartbeat. With her fingertips grazing the chilly, uneven stones, Iris slid into the tight path. She had combed through old maps and decoded mysterious symbols for weeks in an attempt to find this secret route. She had finally discovered it. However, she was completely shocked by what she discovered inside.

She gasped when she stepped out into the main hall. The instant she went outside, Damon's piercing stare locked onto her as he waited, lounging nonchalantly against a pillar. His black figure stood out against the dim lighting of the torches, giving him a powerful presence.

"What did you do inside?" His speech had the chilly edge of a sword to it.

Determined not to display any weakness, Iris straightened. Even if a tempest was building within of her, she said calmly, "Looking for answers."

The woodland was illuminated by the moon's silvery radiance as it hung high in the nighttime sky. Iris's wrist hurt more and more, making it difficult for her to walk steadily. The brand burst with an unearthly brilliance, and she gripped her arm, teeth clenched. Even though it has burned before, it seemed stronger and more persistent tonight. It was as if the mark had a mind of its own, drawing her toward the Moonlit Clearing."Not right now," she whispered to herself as she stumbled over rough terrain and roots. But there was no use in resisting. The unrelenting force that was leading her eventually brought her to the clearing, where an odd energy was buzzing in the air.The middle of the glade was lit by a shaft of moonlight, and a shimmering figure started to take shape within it. In front of Iris stood the Moon Goddess, bright and ethereal. There was urgency in her silver eyes. The goddess murmured, "Child," her voice resonating in the breeze like a tune. Quiet anxiety permeated the packhouse, a symphony of cautious looks and murmured words. As Iris went out the back door, Aiden stood close to the edge of the common area, staring at her. His stomach twisted uneasily as his misgivings about her tore at him. She was concealing something significant from him. And he found it increasingly difficult to trust her the more she ducked. His instincts, however, still begged him to keep her safe.Outside, the trees were softly glowing in the moonlight, although there were still shadows at the margins. As if pulled by an unseen thread, Iris walked quickly and deliberately. Careful not to draw attention to himself, Aiden trailed after her. He could no longer disregard her as a mystery.Iris arrived at a remote clearing far into the forest, where a pack of wolves stood, their stances stiff and suspicious. These were not the wolves who belonged to the pack hierarchy or Damon. These were the rebels who spoke of freedom and overthrow. Although she had

Her mark tingled with an almost magnetic pull as the weak moon cast jagged shadows. She took a moment to look at the wrist bearing the odd symbol, which was dimly shining as if it were calling her on. Now that the packhouse was well behind her, she felt both liberated and afraid. The remains of an old temple towered ahead, their moss-covered stones and splintered pillars radiating a sense of solemnity. Even though she had never been here before, the mark had led her with perfect accuracy. The slight wind whispering through the ruins warned her of danger, secrets, and treachery as she drew closer. Despite her racing heart, she persisted in her quest to learn the truth. With his golden eyes narrowed, Aiden followed, hidden in the shadows. He had had enough of Iris's enigmatic disappearances and her avoidance of his inquiries. Even if it meant s

The Price of TruthThe packhouse was oppressively tense. Like a predator in a cage, Damon stalked the room, his piercing eyes fixed on Iris. The burden of his charges pressed down on her as she stood in the middle. Members of the pack hovered in the shadows around them, their interest and uneasiness evident. Though his posture was rigid and his customary confidence had been replaced by uncertainty, Aiden was by her side.At last, Damon halted, his voice a sharp growl. He growled, "Do you think I'm a fool, Iris?" Sneaking away in the middle of the night to see Lucian? Behind our backs, what falsehoods are you telling us?Even though Iris's heart was racing, she didn't back down. Despite the fury burning in Damon's eyes, she stated in a firm voice, "I'm not weaving lies." Lucian offered a truce, so I went to see him. Instead of starting a war, I was attempting to prevent one.Damon snorted, letting out a sour chuckle. "A truce? Do you believe that I am unaware of Lucian's identity? You

Allies and EnemiesThe packhouse was shrouded in darkness, and the only sound in the stillness of the night was the distant howl.Iris paced her room, her mind racing with fear and resolve. She could still clearly recall every element of the blood moon vision. She whirled around, gasping for air as the door cracked open.Lucian entered, moving quickly and silently. His eyes blazed with urgency, and his dark cloak melted into the darkness.“Lucian?” she said in a whisper, looking at the door. "Are you crazy? If somebody happens to spot you here. His voice was stern and low as he said, "I didn't come here lightly." "Damon's wolves are getting ready for battle." They have located our camp and intend to destroy it before daybreak.Iris's blood grew cold as she froze. "How are you aware?"“They were seen by scouts,” Lucian said. We are outmatched and outnumbered. It will be a massacre without assistance. The door slammed open before Iris could react. With his golden eyes flaming with rage,

Trust on the EdgeHours before, the insurgents' camp was a gloomy ghost of its former glory. The air was thick with smoke from homemade fires, blending with the metallic smell of blood. Wolves' eyes were empty with the weight of loss, and they moaned in agony as they tended to their wounds. With their faces drawn and exhausted, Iris, Aiden, and Lucian stood next to the remains of a fallen tent."This isn't sustainable," Lucian remarked in an irritated tone. "We have half of our fighters dead and the other half just barely surviving." If Damon's wolves return, we will be crushed. The brand was hotter than ever when Iris raised a quivering hand to her wrist. She felt a restless, quite lifelike pulse of energy within herself. She turned to see a young insurgent lying splayed against a tree, his respiration labored and weak. Then she walked near him without thinking."What are you doing?" Aiden moved closer and asked."Aiding," Iris answered quietly. She knelt to the wounded wolf and cov

He returned his attention to Iris, who was motionless with a pale face. Iris, be honest with him. Inform him of the agreement. With her heart thumping in her chest, Iris swallowed forcefully. "When my pack fell, the pact was dissolved," she said in a steady although hushed voice. "Nothing remains to be honored."With an almost pleased grin, Caleb cock

She said, her voice breaking, "I have no idea what it's asking of me! How can I accept something that I don't comprehend? She looked into the bright eyes of the Guardian. "Your power necessitates equilibrium. You have to give up what ties you to this planet to become its vessel."What does that even mean?" Iris broke down, tears running down her cheeks. Her voice trembled as she turned to Aiden. "I can't I'm at a loss for what to do!"Aiden stood between her and the Guardian and firmly stated, "You're not giving up anything."
